Stepping Stones Of The Steward A Print On Demand Title (Reprinted)
$21.99Add to cartTaking the images of “journey” and “steward” as metaphors for the Christian’s life, and using parables of Jesus found in Matthew and Luke, Ronald Vallet helps focus a truly biblical understanding of the term steward and the role of believers as earthly caretakers, neighbors, and responsible servants of God.
Written to inform and encourage pastors and laypersons who seek to explore new dimensions in their Christian journey, Vallet’s inspirational study teaches Christians how to gain a sense of purpose, how to properly use their resources, talents, and money, and how to reach out with compassion for the welfare of others and for the planet.
This revised and enlarged edition includes important new discussions in the areas of faith and money and environmental issues. M. Douglas Meeks has written the foreword, and a new epilogue by Vallet explores the mission funding crisis of the church in North America, the changing views on both the church and its mission, and the important role played by theological education. Thought-provoking questions and suggestions for further reflection follow each chapter, and a study guide outlines ways to adapt this volume to adult and youth church and school classes, planning groups, conferences, and small-group settings.

They Drank From The River And Died In The Wilderness
$16.99Add to cartWe are living in a land not our own. We are looking for a city, whose Builder and Maker is God. Along the way, there will be rivers from which to drink. These “rivers” will renew, refresh, and restore vision and purpose. But the “river” will not ultimately satisfy the inner longing of your soul. The “river” along the way must not be mistaken for the City of God we all seek. We must go on, not being content with the provision of the “river,” no matter how exciting its rushing power and glory may be.

Taking its title from a line of a poem written by Alfred Tennyson, Beyond the Broken Lights is a thoughtful and inviting look at our questions and the need for clarity in the depths of the mystery of God. Like Tennyson, we cannot find satisfactory explanations, complete resolutions, or simple take-it-or-leave-it answers. Instead, our systems of theological position, conventional wisdom, and standard orthodoxy have their day and then cease to be. They can be described as “broken lights.”Poole examines these broken lights, and tells us that since there are no other lights – no perfect, seamless, unbroken lights that human words can shine on sacred truth – it is the broken lights that become precious to us. These are the lights by which we live. Poole warns, however, that we must not clutch them too tightly lest we cut ourselves on them, or wave them, lest we injure someone; because, after all, they are broken lights.
Beyond these broken lights is God, somewhere past the place where words run out. The words that wait their turn inside this book seek to recover something that was before the broken lights, and they long to glimpse something that is beyond the broken lights.

Christ calls us to decisive discipleship but all too often we settle for flabby faith. “The vast majority of Western Christians,” claims David Watson, “are church members, pew-fillers, hymn-singers, sermon-tasters, Bible-readers, even born-again believers or Spirit-filled charismatics, but not true disciples of Jesus. If we were willing to become disciples, the church in the West would be transformed, and the impact on society would be staggering. This is no idle claim; it happened in the first century.”With the international perspective so acutely needed by American Christians, David Watson calls us to build a community of believers who demonstrate Christ’s power, arm themselves for spiritual battle, and demonstrate, by their lifestyle and outreach, their unreserved commitment to Christ’s kingdom. Only then will we be able to change the world.

After looking at the atitudes toward God and ourselves necessary for the journey, he introduces us to the basics of the Christian world view. Separate chapaters discuss the foundations of knowledge and the relationship between knowing and doing. Pilgrim People : Learning Through The Church Year
$17.95Add to cartAs a people whose faith is formed and nourished by the Bible’s stories of creation and fall, salvation and redemption, Christians hunger to order their lives by the church’s story and their own. Our journey to God leads us through the cycle of the church year?from Advent and Christmas to Easter and the season called “ordinary time”?as we tell and retell God’s story and make it the story we live by. In A Pilgrim People John Westerhoff looks at the gospel texts season by season and relates their teachings not only to Christian life and ministry but to the life cycle of childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.
In teaching the lessons of the church year, Westerhoff starts not with Advent but with Holy Week and Easter, which marks the birth of Christian faith and its vision of a dream come true. Commenting briefly on each of the gospel readings for each Sunday, he moves from Eastertide through Ascension and Pentecost, the season after Pentecost, Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, and Lent, offering useful themes for preaching and education. The final chapter incorporates a radical proposal for Christian education to reform the church’s organization, worship, education, and outreach.

THE HISTORY OF THIS BOOKOne of the most influential spiritual books ever penned, even secular historians acknowledge the great impact Experiencing the Depths of Jesus Christ has had in Christian history. Madame Guyon is generally credited, even by her enemies, as being one of best-known women in church history. Will Durant, in his 11-volume Story of Civilization, recounts the impact of Jeanne Guyon’s life and writings on French history.
At one time this book was publicly burned in France, and yet it has also been received by seeking Christians as one of the most helpful and powerful Christian books ever written. Penned by one of Christianity’s most famous saints, Jeanne Guyon, it has played a major part in the lives of more famous Christians than perhaps any other Christian book. Here is the very first edition written in modern English.
Watchman Nee saw that this book was translated into Chinese, and made available to every new convert of The Little Flock. Fenelon, Count Zinzendorf, John Wesley, the early Quakers, Jessie Penn-Lewis and Hudson Taylor all highly recommended it to the believers of their day.
This book will introduce you to a whole new – and deeper – relationship to Jesus Christ.

Challenge Of Discipleship A Critical Study Of The Sermon On The Mount As
$59.95Add to cartThis book invites readers to assume responsibility for their own interpretations of the Sermon on the Mount through a practice of “critical study of the Bible as scripture.” Such a practice takes as a starting point the conclusions about “the teaching of the Sermon on the Mount for believers today,” which Christian believers of all walks of life formulate for themselves, which non-Christian ordinary readers readily envision as they observe Christians, and which scholars imply in their sophisticated interpretations.

Spiritual Torrents
$10.95Add to cart120 Pages/17 Chapters
Additional Info
SPIRITUAL TORRENTSThis book is a spiritual autobiography in which Jeanne Guyon likens her life to a torrent making its way out of the high mountains down into the canyons and chasms of life, passing through many experiences until finally coming to the spiritual experience of death. From there the torrent experiences resurrection and a life lived in concert with the will of God while still going through many stages of refinement. At last the torrent finds its way into the vast, unlimited sea. Even here the torrent does not totally come to be one with the vast ocean until it has once more passed through final dealings by the Lord.
The reader will find this book to be the saga of one believer’s journey with Christ. It does not serve as a pattern for any other life, but simply allows the reader to see how Guyon viewed the Lord’s work in her life. Nevertheless, this is one of the greatest books ever written on the subject of the cross as it works in the life of the believer.

Final Steps In Christian Maturity
$10.95Add to cartThe King of France ordered Jeanne Guyon to appear before Archbishop Bossuet for interrogation. This would be a fateful event for her, for the results of that interrogation would decided whether or not she would be imprisoned.
Jeanne Guyon made the decision to present to Bossuet a clear statement – and defense – of her teachings. The result was a massive three-volume work entitled Justifications.
This work was later printed in French, probably appearing in only one printing. Justifications has never appeared in English, and has been virtually forgotten. Final Steps In Christian Maturity is a careful selection of some of the very best material found in that original three-volume work.
Here, then, is some of the finest literature ever penned on the deeper Christian life.

Spiritual Journaling : Recording Your Journey Toward God (Student/Study Guide)
$10.99Add to cartThe SPIRITUAL FORMATION STUDY GUIDES explore and explain how the use of disciplines (such as journaling, Bible reading, prayer, and others) can deepen both our walk with God and our community with other believers.
THE FIRST STEP TOWARD GROWTH IS NOTICING. What are the life-style characteristics that distinguish a follower of Jesus from those who share no interest in Him? Widespread research suggests that in our society there are none.
Why is that? Surely one would expect a follower of history’s most influential person to stand out from the crowd. Perhaps it relates to the pace of contemporary life. By running so fast, we miss the meaning of our actions, and the cultivation of our characters.
hough many of us do try to capture each day’s experiences in a journal, few take that practice to the level of a spiritual discipline by using it to explore the work of God in our lives.
In Spiritual Journaling, you will learn to recognize the progression from who you have been to who you are meant to become. By taking time to go back and understand the critical elements of your life-the events, relationships, patterns, and experiences that shape you-you will gradually find yourself viewing the future through the lens of conformity to the way of Jesus.
Whether you choose to explore this new skill with a group of friends (recommended!) or on your own, you’ll benefit from the thoughtful exercises presented in this study guide.

Apostles Creed
$30.00Add to cart“If there is one statement of the Christian church, it is contained in the Apostles’s Creed,” writes William Barclay, former Professor of Divinity and Biblical Criticism at Glasgow University. Professor Barclay reminds us, however, that the Creed should be seen not so much as a test and yardstick of orthodoxy, but rather as a symbolic, pictoral, and poetic representation of a truth–a truth that Christians should constantly rethink and restate for themselves. Professor Barclay’s insights are particularly valuable at a time when many traditional beliefs are being questions, both by theologians and lay people. He always has managed to bridge the gap between the academic and lay worlds while addressing the most profound issues of the Christian faith.

Images Of The Church In Missions
$19.99Add to cartThe Bible shows that the very existence of the church is grounded in God’s saving mission. The church is a visible demonstration of the reign of God, his “experimental plot” in the midst of history, pointing toward the restoration of all things.
Driver offers studies of 12 biblical images for understanding the church. They steer us toward a church more in harmony with God’s missionary purpose for his people, and toward a mission solidly based in the biblical vision of peoplehood. These images communicate with power and clarity, reflecting the sense of identity in early Christian communities. In our own time, such images can inspire the church to live up to its reason for being. The images the church uses to understand itself will largely determine what the church will become.
Driver explores images of pilgrimage, of God’s new order, of peoplehood, and of transformation. By its calling, the church must be in mission. The church needs the vital sense of identity inspired by these biblical images to serve God’s saving purpose for all creation.

From the delicate interplay of human experience to the surrender to Christ and the embrace of Christian community, that journey of Christian spirituality is explored and celebrated here in each eloquent, thought-provoking passage,
“The table is one of the most intimate places in our lives. It is there that we give ourselves to one another. When we say, ‘Take some more, let me serve you another plate, let me pour you another glass, don’t be shy, enjoy it,’ we say a lot more than our words express. We invite our friends to become part of our lives. We want them to be nurtured by the same food and drink that nurture us. We desire communion…. Every breakfast, lunch, or dinner can become a time of growing communion with one another.”

Nouwen is a wise, loving companion who invites us along as he finds joy in the community of loss, true freedom in forgiveness of others, and hope in surprising places. Each daily meditation is a stepping-stone along a path of private discovery, offering Nouwen’s seasoned yet fresh ideas on kindness, love, suffering, and prayer, the Church as God’s people, and the importance of Jesus in one’s life-reflecting, as a whole, Nouwen’s own ‘personal creed.’ Bread for the Journey brims with daily nourishment and guidance for devoted followers and new friends alike — food for thought on a yearlong journey of discovery and faith.
