A prolific writer and creative thinker, Gunton taught at King’s College, London, for over thirty years, until his untimely death in 2003. Each chapter provides a synthesis and overview of Gunton’s thought on a particular doctrine or set of doctrines, calling attention to the Trinitarian shape of his theology. Apatheia In The Christian Tradition
$37.00To many modern people, apatheia (being “”without suffering””/””without passion””) sounds like cold-heartedness and indifference to others, a condition to be avoided. However, in the classical world and for many in the historic Christian church it was a spiritual state to aspire to. What exactly is apatheia? What is its origin? How has it been used in spiritual writings throughout the centuries of Christian practice? And how may it help us today to articulate a Christian understanding of the soul’s spiritual well-being? The central aim of the book is twofold: to rediscover the meaning and function of the Greek term apatheia as it was understood and employed by the Stoics in their philosophical and religious writings, and to explore how the theologians of the church–Origen, Evagrius, John Cassian, Maximus, and Ignatius of Loyola–interpreted apatheia for their spiritual practice. Nguyen argues that the concept of apatheia in the Christian spiritual tradition connotes the state of “”spiritual peace”” or “”well-being”” of the human soul wherein excessive and negative emotions–such as lust, excessive desire for food and drink, anger, envy, resentment, self-love, and pride–are replaced by reasonable desires, love, and humility.

Your Jesus Is Too Small
$24.00We can make Jesus look very small if we are not careful. Your Jesus Is Too Small explores how a trivialized Jesus contributes to a collapsed Christian moral character. The 2016 election exposed the truth that for many Christians character does not count, or is a very low priority. Eighty-one percent of white evangelicals voted for President Trump, not known as a man of high moral character. This collapse of character is especially troubling since Christians claim to seek after the mind and character of Jesus Christ. What’s more, the ingrained and unrelenting cultural values–combined with our inescapable self-centered pursuits–bombard us every moment and blight our character. After noting how we belittle Jesus, this book explores ways we can exalt him, allowing his character traits to inform and then transform our hearts and minds. A credible Jesus also means that more tongues will confess him and more knees bow before him and that more people will desire his compassionate character. Then we will be morally equipped to address the great crises of our day: persistent poverty, the marginalizing of out-groups, raging violence, and our planet’s lingering woes.

Sing Us A Song Of Joy
$51.00Out on the barren margins of Babylonian exile, the great biblical poet Jeremiah suggests that his captors are asking for a song of joy. Imagine that. Is it possible, he asks, to sing the Lord’s song in a foreign land? Christians today find themselves caught up in the massive sweep of secularizing culture. Do we have a joyful song to sing anymore? Do we know what our song has been throughout history? Could we possibly sing as a mighty choir, just perhaps igniting spiritual renewal for our world–and for each one of us as well? This book proposes the possibility of finding a new song for our time.

Forgiveness : Finding Peace Through Letting Go
$18.99If your enemies are starving, feed them some bread; if they are thirsty, give them water to drink. Proverbs 24:17 (CEB) There is nothing more crippling than holding on to anger. Anger, more than any other emotion, has the power to consume all aspects of our lives, distort our sense of purpose, and destroy our relationship with God. In the passionate and life-changing book Forgiveness: Finding Peace Though Letting Go, bestselling author Adam Hamilton brings the same insight that he applied in the bestseller “Why?” to the challenge of forgiveness. Hamilton argues that revelation comes when we realize that forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves rather than to someone else. He also contends that only when we learn to forgive others and ourselves can we truly receive forgiveness from God. “Adam Hamilton not only reminds us about the importance of reconnecting the broken pieces of our lives, but shows how the process of grace and forgiveness is possibly our most complete picture of God.” –Shane Stanford, author of Making Life Matter: Embracing the Joy in the Everyday “The heartbeat of the gospel is grace. With practical insight, Hamilton makes grace understandable–both for seeking and for granting forgiveness. I highly recommend this book.” –Melody Carlson, author of Healing Waters: A Bible Study on Forgiveness, Grace, and Second Chances “Adam Hamilton’s book offers clear guidance for believers struggling with the practical application of our biblical imperative to forgive. It is a must-read for both Christian counselors and every person who has something or someone to forgive.” –Jennifer Cisney Ellers, author of The First 48 Hours: Spiritual Caregivers as First Responders “Deeply rooted in the Bible’s testimony about God’s extravagant mercy, this fine little book explores the Christian call to practice both repentance and forgiveness in the image of God. Straightforward and practical, Hamilton vividly sketches the habits of the heart that discipleship requires in our daily relationships with spouses and intimate life partners, family members, friends and strangers.” –Patricia Beattie Jung, Professor of Christian Ethics, Saint Paul School of Theology

Rule Of Faith And Biblical Interpretation
$44.00Among the dizzying array of approaches to reading the Bible, the oldest, most revered interpretive tool rises above the rest: the Rule of Faith. Faithful interpretation of Scripture in the postmodern context has much to learn from this ancient principle. Deeper engagement with the sacred text flourishes with the assistance of the Rule of Faith. That engagement in turn renews the Body of Christ. This book explores the interpretive practices of great reformers and renewers of the church, including Luther, Calvin, and Wesley, who kept up a lively dialogue with the ancient authors of the Christian movement. In that dialogue, they discovered a dynamic guide to better exegesis. Robert C. Fennell provides a compelling account of faithful interpreters from the past whose example inspires contemporary readers as they seek to understand the Bible.

Studies In Hellenistic Religions
$74.00This selection of essays by Luther Martin brings together studies from throughout his career–both early as well as more recent–in the various areas of Graeco-Roman religions, including mystery cults, Judaism, Christianity, and Gnosticism. It is hoped that these studies, which represent spatial, communal, and cognitive approaches to the study of ancient religions might be of interest to those concerned with the structures and dynamics of religions past in general, as well as to scholars who might, with more recent historical research, confirm, evaluate, extend, or refute the hypotheses offered here, for that is the way scholars work and by which scholarship proceeds.

Heaven All Around Us

Along the way we look for practices that can lead us more deeply into the way of Jesus: activities like cooking and laundry, walking and sleeping, shopping and conversation with friends. I Pledge Allegiance
$28.99What does it really mean for Christians to live as faithful kingdom citizens in today’s world?
Bitter partisan conflict. State-sanctioned torture. Economic injustice. Ethical corruption. Even a cursory glance over daily news headlines shows a stark contrast between the American political state and the kingdom of heaven. Where, then, does the Christian’s ultimate allegiance lie?
In I Pledge Allegiance David Crump issues a clarion call to Jesus’s twenty-first-century disciples, stirring them up to heed God’s word and live out their kingdom citizenship here on earth. Closely examining the ethical teachings of Jesus and his apostles in the New Testament and using real-world examples to illustrate the vital issues at stake, Crump challenges Christians to embrace the radical, counterintuitive, upside-down way of Jesus-a way of living and thinking that turns the world’s values on their head, smashes through stale political and cultural conventions, and welcomes God’s kingdom into the very heart of our shared society.

Interrupting Silence : Gods Command To Speak Out (Student/Study Guide)
$17.00Silence is a complex matter. It can refer to awe before unutterable holiness, but it can also refer to the coercion where some voices are silenced in the interest of control by the dominant voices. It is the latter silence that Walter Brueggemann explores, urging us to speak up in situations of injustice.
Interrupting Silence illustrates that the Bible is filled with stories where marginalized people break repressive silence and speak against it. Examining how maintaining silence allows the powerful to keep control, Brueggemann motivates readers to consider situations in their lives where they need to either interrupt silence or be part of the problem, convincing us that God is active and wanting us to act for justice.

Proverbs : An Introduction And Commentary
$34.99In many ways, Proverbs is similar to the wisdom literature of the wider ancient Near East. However, while the book initially appears to consist primarily of practical advice, wisdom is grounded in a relationship with God.
In this replacement Tyndale Commentary, Lindsay Wilson shows how the first nine chapters provide a reading guide for the many proverbs in subsequent chapters; and how the fear of the Lord, choosing wisdom not folly, and having our characters formed by wisdom are crucial for understanding Proverbs as Christian Scripture and living out our faith in daily life.
The Tyndale Commentaries are designed to help the reader of the Bible understand what the text says and what it means. The Introduction to each book gives a concise but thorough treatment of its authorship, date, original setting, and purpose. Following a structural Analysis, the Commentary takes the book section by section, drawing out its main themes, and also comments on individual verses and problems of interpretation. Additional Notes provide fuller discussion of particular difficulties.
In the new Old Testament volumes, the commentary on each section of the text is structured under three headings: Context, Comment, and Meaning. The goal is to explain the true meaning of the Bible and make its message plain.

He concludes that nothing “under the sun” will ever fulfill the eternal longing which God has put in the heart of man. In a world that gives no clue as to life’s purpose, provides no answer to man’s ultimate longing, and furnishes no resolution to life’s jarring contradictions and inequities, the Preacher’s observations and conclusions are eminently valid; man by his unaided wisdom will never penetrate the mystery that guards the purposes of God.
In this context, Ecclesiastes wrestles through the same themes of the world’s bewildering contradictions and frustrations and the confidence that the God who sits above the sun will bring an ultimate resolution. Man finds his center, not in the world of vanity, but in the God of eternity.

Veil : A Invitation Into The Unseen Realm
$19.99“I have seen angels, demons, and other spiritual things for as long as I can remember. I see them with my eyes, not so differently from how I would see you if you were standing in front of me. For a long time I didn’t know or understand that what I had was a gift. It was as often a source of peace and wonder as it was a source of fear and confusion. Even after I learned that the things I saw were the result of a God given gift, I still struggled with how to use the things He showed me. I would see angels during every worship service I attended, but what was I supposed to do to partner with what they were doing? I would see demons perpetuating addiction and bitterness in people around me, but did seeing it mean that I was supposed to do something about it?
This is the story of how I learned to use the gift I was born with, how I learned to overcome the fear of the bad things I saw, how I learned to push past the confusion of seeing things I did not understand, and how I discovered that every single thing that I saw pointed back to the absolute and perfect love that God has for His children.”

Holy Ground : An Alphabet Of Prayer
$20.00Too often we turn prayer into well-intentioned patterns of our own making. Too often we assume prayer is primarily about words. Sometimes there’s an almost magical understanding that if we get the words right, if we trust enough or believe enough, God will “answer.” But most of us know that God is not a divine magician or our own personal valet and that prayer is much more than our feeble attempts to make God pay attention to what God already knows. Using the alphabet as a template of descriptive words and actions, Holy Ground: An Alphabet of Prayer invites reflection about prayer as paying Attention, looking for Beauty, showing Compassion, practicing Devotion, celebrating Enthusiasm–all the way to the end of the alphabet and discovering Wonder, X as mystery, and Z as Zeal. These reflections will help readers experience prayer as a place, an action, or attitude, a stance for recognizing and acknowledging God’s presence in the midst of ordinary life–something like the sigh of the shoemaker, too busy to drop his worn shoes and kneel in disciplined prayer, but not too busy to sigh his prayer of gratitude. Prayer is so much more than words.

Introduction To Ethics
$32.00It is natural for us to wonder what should I do, and why? And although a combination of common sense and upbringing aids us in answering our questions, it is also natural for us to seek answers that are grounded in something deeper and more enduring than our personal dispositions and those of our parents. We seek a genuinely good life and the practical wisdom necessary to arrive at happiness. In this Introduction to Ethics, Brian Besong presents a comprehensive and contemporary introduction to the practical wisdom handed down to us by Aristotle, St. Thomas Aquinas, and many others–a position now commonly called “”natural law.”” Written as a beginner’s guide, the book systematically explores a range of moral issues including moral knowledge, happiness, right and wrong action, and virtues, to name a few. Introduction to Ethics explains in a lively way how natural law provides principled and persuasive answers to our most fundamental moral questions.

True Jesus : The Highest Revelation Of God
$28.73TRUE KINGDOM OF GOD HAS COME!! THE CURRENT GLOBAL WARMING IS A GLOBAL WARNING INDEED!!!
“21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord (or Jesus, Jesus – that is to judge all men – John 5:22) shall ENTER into the Kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 and then will I profess into them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. 24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 and the rain descended, and the FLOODS came, and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock…” (Matt. 7:21-27). Life is a school and the greatest common sense EXAMINATION question that every living soul MUST answer is “Who is Jesus?” in connection with the true God and the true Holy Spirit (Prov. 30:4, John 5:39, Matt. 12:32). The correct answer earns promotion to the promised Everlasting Life (Titus 1:2) while the wrong answer attracts demotion to Everlasting Death. Everlasting Life simply means KNOWING the true Jesus and the true God (John 17:3) before doing His work. If our Lord Jesus should say on that day that He doesn’t know Pastor X and Follower F as in Matt. 7:23, it simply means that both Pastor X and Follower F never knew Him too, even though they claimed they knew Him. What a wasted life and a false confidence to be ashamed of on that day! Worse still is the fact that, then, there will be no more opportunity to repent (see Luke 13:24-30). Now is our LAST OPPORTUNITY to repent (see Luke 13:6-9) and to know who the true Jesus really is so as to ESCAPE the Greatest Judgment on earth and ENTER into the Everlasting Life of Everlasting Righteousness, Everlasting Peace with Unspeakable Everlasting Joy (see Matt. 25:23, Rom. 14:17-18).
What a man knows is under his control but what he doesn’t know is above him and will control him. The same heat that softens and refines the Gold (BELIEVER) is the same heat that hardens and destroys the Clay (UNBELIEVER). Strive to enter into the true kingdom of God because most people are only interested in their own kingdoms (Luke 13:24-30, Phil. 2:20-21). Refuse to be limited by their limitations. Get out of the prophesied Second Babylonian Captivity in (Rev. 18:2)! Get out of mind captivity!! Be unlimited for true freedom!!!

Dream Of You
$15.99With a strong teaching voice evoking comparisons to Christine Caine and Jennie Allen, speaker and leader Jo Saxton confronts women on the fractured pieces of their identities and points them to help and hope in Scripture and through recognition of self-worth.
Working from the core promise in Ephesians 1:11, Jo Saxton looks at the vision a woman has of herself at an early age–and how the world distorts, changes, breaks, and alters that dream. By taking personal stories from her own life, growing up the child of Nigerian immigrants in the UK, for a time in foster care and then, later, a newlywed immigrating to the US, Jo helps identify key scenarios where identities develop that are not true to God’s design. Chapters focus on themes of knowing one’s name, embracing the gifts each person has been given, addressing body issues, experiencing seasons of depression or grief, and letting go of perfectionism. Through thorough examination of Biblical heroes who also experienced broken identities, Jo invites readers to live their experience, yet grasp their purpose, understanding that they are seen by a loving God, known by Him, and He promises to redeem them.Add to cartIn stock (additional units can be purchased)

2. Why Abuse Hurts
3. Justice, Anger, And True Forgiveness
4. Breaking The Power Of Secrets
5. What Can Recovery Look Like?
6. Where Was God?
7. A Broken Hallelujah
8. Choosing Life And Learning To Walk Unafraid
NotesAdditional Info
“It is said that the true test of a society is how it treats its most vulnerable members.”As many as one in four girls and one in six boys experience sexual abuse during childhood, and it’s estimated that as many as half of the incidents are never reported. This means that countless millions in our societies, both children and adults, carry this complex, often hidden pain. What does the path to healing look like for survivors? And how can ministry leaders, pastors, and counselors best help them as they walk this difficult road?
Drawing on both his own experience and his wife’s experience as survivors of childhood sexual abuse, minister and lecturer Tim Hein offers his expertise, practical guidance, and empathy-both for ministry leaders and for survivors themselves. How can we best respond when a survivor shares their secret with us? Where can survivors turn for encouragement when the road to recovery seems so long and lonely? Hein presents clinical data and resources alongside pastoral wisdom and care, addressing both psychological and spiritual aspects of sexual abuse.
Both for those who have suffered sexual abuse and those in a position to help them, this book is a rich resource. Filled with both sober truths and the hope of Christ, it calls survivors to take courage and walk unafraid down the road of healing.

Mariner : A Theological Voyage With Samuel Taylor Coleridge
$42.99Instead of the cross, the Albatross
About my neck was hung.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s famous poem “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner” is often regarded as having heralded the beginning of the Romantic era in British literature. The poem narrates the story of a sailor who has returned home from a long voyage having suffered great loss, yet survived.
In this Studies in Theology and the Arts volume, poet and theologian Malcolm Guite leads readers on a journey with Coleridge, whose own life paralleled the experience of the mariner. On this theological voyage, Guite draws out the continuing relevance of this work and the ability of poetry to communicate the truths of humanity’s fallenness, our need for grace, and the possibility of redemption.

Ezra And Nehemiah
$31.99Two features especially distinguish the Two Horizons Old Testament Commentary series: theological exegesis and theological reflection. Both of these features are fully realized in this THOTC volume on Ezra and Nehemiah by David J. Shepherd and Christopher J. H. Wright.
Following an introduction and concise, verse-by- verse commentary on both books, Shepherd and Wright highlight key ways in which these Old Testament texts continue to speak to us today. They closely examine what Ezra and Nehemiah tell us about God and the people of Israel, reflect practically on leadership, and engage critically with those portions of the text (such as Ezra’s dissolution of the Judeans’ marriages with foreigners) that present special problems for contemporary readers.
Offering deep theological insight throughout, this volume will prove essential for students, pastors, and other Christian leaders seeking to engage in theological interpretation of Scripture.

Animals Theology And The Incarnation

Is there a human ethical responsibility towards non-human animals? Habitation Of Wonder
$38.00Habitation of Wonder is an offering of poems that travels the intersection of the natural landscape and the landscape of spirit. Here, the moon is a “”white comma / in the breath of space.”” Crocuses are “”ephemeral prophets, first of the sun’s spring projects.”” The ocean is “”a vast / perpetual sacrifice on the altar / of the shell-glittering shore.”” The collection opens with “”Genesis,”” a reimagining of the creation story with song as the divine instrument of creation. Five themed sections flow from “”Genesis”” like a musical thread, investigating the material elements from which we originate and in which we take shelter, as well as the gifts of language and faith, which make us more than merely “”a constellation of salts.”” In its own way, each poem invites the reader to “”tenant beauty””–as well as to tenant uncertainty. When beauty and uncertainty collide, they spark wonder. As these poems suggest, wonder is simply another name for the world in which we live–and the world that lives in us.

95 Prostheses
$52.00Five hundred years after Luther’s famous posting of his 95 Theses in 1517, the church again faces an important crossroads. Sunday worship attendance is shrinking at alarming rates. There are now more “”Elvis believers”” in the US than Episcopalians and almost limitless spiritual options exist for those who seek faith and trust in something, but are hesitant to commit to a particular path leading to truth. The word prosthesis, normally associated with surgery, is also an apt word to describe the church’s need to forge a theological identity that fits our current context. The church faces change and a transformed body, but not at the expense of the biblical richness and tradition that fueled the restlessness of the reformers. The essays gathered here, arranged around the seasons of the church year, address familiar challenges faced by all pastors and leaders in an era of transition, specifically in Christian formation and discipleship. Appropriate for group and personal reflection, 95 Prostheses employs humor and biblical accessibility with the skeptical outsider who may be considering Jesus and his church for the first time in mind.

Participating In Gods Mission
$40.99Explores how the church has engaged-and should engage-the American context
What might faithful and meaningful Christian witness look like within our changing contemporary American context?
After analyzing contemporary challenges and developing a missiological approach for the US church, Craig Van Gelder and Dwight Zscheile reflect on the long, complex, and contested history of Christian mission in America. Five distinct historical periods from the beginning of the colonial era to the dawn of the third millennium are reviewed and critiqued.
They then bring the story forward to the present day, discussing current realities confronting the church, discerning possibilities of where and how the Spirit of God might be at work today, and imagining what participating in the triune God’s mission may look like in an uncertain tomorrow.

New Testament In The Original Greek Byzantine Textform 2018
$33.31The present volume displays the Greek New Testament according to its historically dominant transmissional form, known as the Byzantine Textform. In view of the significance of this text throughout the centuries, this compact edition should be of value to student and scholar alike for academic, personal, and ministerial purposes.
Most modern critical editions of the Greek New Testament present an eclectic form of text that primarily represents the localized Alexandrian-based manuscripts. Other available editions exhibit forms of the so-called Textus Receptus or the lectionary-based Patriarchal (Antioniades) version of the Greek Orthodox Church. In contrast, the present edition reflects the regularly utilized consensus found among Greek continuous-text manuscripts that span the extensive geographic realm of the Byzantine Empire throughout at least its thousand-year history.
An apparatus at the foot of the page displays all differences between the Byzantine consensus main text and the Nestle-Aland 27th and 28th editions, as well as differences appearing in the Editio Critica Maior for the book of Acts. Alternative Byzantine readings are noted in a separate apparatus when the primary Textform is significantly divided.
The 27 New Testament books are ordered according to early canonical lists, with the General Epistles following Acts, and Hebrews placed between Paul’s letters to churches and to individuals.
The present edition thus provides an affordable Greek New Testament in flexible binding that conveniently fills a particular textual void in relation to research, study, and practical ministry.

Longing
$29.00Longing is a universal human experience, born of the inevitable gulf between dream and reality, what we need and what we have. While the experience of longing may arise from loss or the awareness of a void in one’s life, it may also become a powerful engine of spiritual growth, prompting one to draw closer to the hidden yet present “”Other.”” Across the range of Jewish teachings, longing takes center stage in one’s spiritual life. From the Bible through current frontiers in Jewish belief and practice, God is both known and unknown, immediate and remote, present and in constant eclipse. This book captures the sense of longing in Jewish tradition by creating a dialogue between the author’s own struggles with an estranged father and a wide range of traditional and contemporary sources. Focusing on the story of the Hebrew prophet Elisha, the book takes the reader through a journey of abandonment, creative destruction, and ultimately repair and healing, engaging with currents in biblical theology, rabbinic thought, Kabbalah, and contemporary Jewish philosophy. Written in a familiar yet probing style, this book is an accessible introduction to Jewish thought and spirituality as well as a thoughtful companion for more experienced students.

Coherent Christianity : Toward An Articulate Faith
$24.00Throughout this book, Louis Roy illustrates his conviction that Christianity consists in the most profound experience to which human beings are invited by God. This experience involves meaning and truth, hope and love, suffering and joy, solidarity and critique. It is a space of freedom, where diverse persons seek the light and make their decisions, interacting with the intellectual and affective resources of their culture. Faith is understood as a personal and communal adventure–a sequence of real life experiences. The book proposes an articulate and coherent vision of the Christian faith. It surveys the complementary dimensions of Christian experience. It points to various paths, traveled by different people. It offers an actualization for our time, that is, a road map that is at the same time flexible and in keeping with truth. It engages in a dialogue with psychology and with non-Christian views, for example on meditation and on reincarnation. The book is addressed to a large audience of educated readers, who are likely to be very interested in its biblical, philosophical, psychological, sociological, interreligious, and pastoral components. Its originality consists in bringing together the interactions between several disciplines, in a practical way.

Preaching Adverbially
$33.99Reflections from a pastor and teacher on preaching as a dynamic event
Christian preaching obviously entails the sermon, but in reality it involves much more. Preaching happens when the entire assembly, the worshiping congregation, gathers to speak and sing, pray and listen, eat and drink, bless and baptize. Preaching at root is a dynamic event that is best captured not in adjectives but in adverbs.
In Preaching Adverbially Russell Mitman shows how eleven select adverbs-biblically, contextually, invitationally, doxologically, and others-serve to identify what essentially happens in Christian preaching. Each chapter draws on scriptural paradigms, liturgical and musical forms, the insights of scholars and teachers, and the author’s own rich experience. Mitman’s purpose is for these adverbs to become practical, revitalizing guides for all who are called to proclaim the Word of God within the framework of Christian worship.

When God Was King
$26.99Islam is not the only religion that has sought to take political power, or believed that it should be possible to create a theocracy. In the 17th century, Christians in the British Isles and North America attempted to follow the examples of 16th century European radicals of contrasting types, while attempting to learn from their mistakes – first in Scotland, and then Cromwell tried to impose just such a rule in the rest of the country. At the same time, millenarian groups planned a religious, political and social revolution to usher in the return of Christ; while others argued for something akin to communism. And even after the Restoration of the monarchy in 1660, there were sects, such as the Quakers, whose faith had a radical impact on their politics. Nor is Christian radicalism dead today – it has influenced politicians ever since.

Evangelicalism in America has cracked, split on the shoals of the 2016 presidential election and its aftermath, leaving many wondering if they want to be in or out of the evangelical tribe. The contentiousness brought to the fore surrounds what it means to affirm and demonstrate evangelical Christian faith amidst the messy and polarized realities gripping our country and world. Who or what is defining the evangelical social and political vision? Is it the gospel or is it culture? For a movement that has been about the primacy of Christian faith, this is a crisis. This collection of essays was gathered by Mark Labberton, president of Fuller Theological Seminary, who provides an introduction to the volume. What follows is a diverse and provocative set of perspectives and reflections from evangelical insiders who wrestle with their responses to the question of what it means to be evangelical in light of their convictions.

Empowering Leadership : How A Leadership Development Culture Builds Better
$19.99Pastor and author Michael P. Fletcher asserts that a leadership pipeline can’t be bought, rather it has to be built from the ground up. Fletcher guides the reader on how to build better leaders faster by creating a leadership development culture in your church or organization.
The key to continued success in any church or organization is a steady stream of healthy, growing leaders; but not just any leaders-leaders who carry the culture and embody its core values. But where can you find leaders like this?
Author and leadership consultant Michael Fletcher says these types of leaders can’t simply be “bought” nor can they be hired off of someone else’s “assembly line.” These types of leaders have to be built through a leadership pipeline.
A good leadership pipeline will help articulate the values of the church or organization and define the process required to move forward in it. However, to develop leaders at every level in the organization, to create an environment that attracts potential leaders, and to build better leaders faster, an organization needs more than a pipeline-it will need a culture that develops leaders organically.
If your organization needs good a leadership development structure, then you’re holding the right book. Empowering Leadership details Michael’s greatest insights on how to build better leaders faster by creating a leadership development culture in your organization-naturally, organically, continually.
