Isaiah 2 : Prophet Of Deliverance And Messianic Hope (Student/Study Guide)
$14.99Add to cartLessons 11-21
Additional Info
Many of Isaiah’s writings have been called “the fifth Gospel.” The New Testament contains no fewer than 66 direct quotes from Isaiah, and 20 of the New Testament books include his timeless words. In Jesus’ first formal appearance in His hometown synagogue at Nazareth, He captivated the speechless congregation by reading from Isaiah. But it was more than the mere reading, of course. Jesus claimed that the words He read from Isaiah were literally being fulfilled in Him, the Messiah. Indeed, the Book of Isaiah is replete with predictions of both the first and second comings of Christ. And it was Isaiah who made clear (in chapter 53) that the Messiah would be a largely rejected suffering Servant, shattering the time-honored hopes of Israel that His primary function would be to rescue His people from their political oppressors. But the glorious news the prophet proclaimed was that this Servant’s stripes and shed blood would provide healing and atonement for our sin.
Through his proclamations of the gravity of sin, the righteous requirements of a holy God, and the sure hope of the coming Messiah, Isaiah provides a message of incredible hope for people of all ages.
This second part of Wisdom of the Word’s study on Isaiah examines chapters 40 through 66 of this inimitable book.

Isaiah’s vision of God has given hope to countless generations. His proclamations of God’s impending judgment have given the world the proper balance between God’s expansive love and His absolute holiness.Isaiah is easily among the Bible’s most well known prophets. It was he who uttered those timeless five words that have challenged Christians throughout the centuries to yield themselves to God unreservedly: “Here am I. Send Me!” (6:8). It was he who shared God’s incredible invitation that has rung through the ages: “Come now, let us reason together…Through your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool” (1:18).
Though obviously grieved by his countrymen’s departure from the God who loved them so much, Isaiah never gave up expressing the ache of the Creator’s heart for His people to return to them, to allow them to experience His love in all its fullness.
This intriguing 10-week study explores fascinating insights into the first 39 chapters of this landmark Old Testament book and challenged all believers top take a closer look at the Heavenly Father who pursues them with a relentless love that won’t satisfied until they come home.

Mary Called Magdalene
$30.00Add to cartWas Mary Magdalene a prostitute, a female divinity figure, a church leader, or all of those? Biblical references to her are tantalizingly brief, but we do know that she was the first person to whom the risen Christ appeared-and the one commissioned to tell others the good news, earning her the ancient honorific, “Apostle to the Apostles.” Today, Mary continues to spark controversy, curiosity, and veneration. In a vivid re-creation of Mary Magdalene’s life story, Margaret George convincingly captures this renowned woman’s voice as she moves from girlhood to womanhood, becomes part of the circle of disciples, and comes to grips with the divine. Grounded in biblical scholarship and secular research, this fascinating historical novel is also, ultimately, “the diary of a soul.”

Possessing The Land (Student/Study Guide)
$13.49Add to cartWhat do the names Jericho, Gilgal, Ai, or Gibeon have to do with our lives in this modern age? Wasn’t “crossing the Jordan” just an act of an ancient people who were intent on establishing their God-given claim to the Promised Land? What possible value could come of investigating the treachery of the Gibeonites – and who were they, anyway? These and similar questions are what this book seeks to answer. Possessing the Land is an investigative study of the Old Testament book of Joshua. It began as a simple home Bible study, but as I studied, it became apparent that God was setting out a battle plan not only for His original chosen people, but also for every modern pilgrim and sojourner in Christ. This book examines the experiences of the original people of God as they went about taking possession of the land that God had promised them, and attempts to draw parallels between their journey in a physical sense and ours in the spiritual realm. Numerous references are made to the real-life battles that face every Christian, not only in the variety of circumstances, but also in the strategy needed to be victorious over those circumstances. We desire to be able to join God’s chosen people in their victories, learn from their defeats, and ultimately, like them, to enter into the fullness of all that God has prepared for us.

$14.99Add to cart10 Lesson Bible Study
Additional Info
A great job, wonderful friends, financial security. What if God asked you to leave it all behind today – to forsake everything familiar and comfortable? To give it all up to go to a neglected, third-rate portion of the world and to rebuild a city you’ve never seen?Sound unlikely? This is precisely a portrait of Nehemiah, cupbearer to the king of Persia. After hearing that a plan to rebuild Jerusalem’s ruined city wall had tragically failed, Nehemiah’s heart was broken. Yet, he wasn’t satisfied simply to lament the incident from his sheltered life in Persia. Hearing God’s call for him to go back to his homeland and see the wall restored completely, he responded in radical obedience, forsaking everything to follow God’s instructions.
In this captivating 10-week study of an often-overlooked Old Testament book, the authors link Nehemiah’s obedience with its practical implications for believers today. As Nehemiah faced great opposition and numerous setbacks, he and the Israelites learned how to totally abandon themselves to God’s will and way for their lives. Each lesson offers valuable observations to help deepen faith, inspire hope, and strengthen the resolve to follow God’s leading at all costs.

Dr Engberg-Pedersen shows how a range of problems encountered in twentieth-century interpretation of three major Pauline letters (Philippians, Galatians, Romans) may be overcome by reading the epistles in the light of ancient Stoic ethics.
He discusses literary, conceptual and theological issues: for example, the unity and purpose of the letters; the relationship in the letters between theology and ethics; the logical character and shape of Pauline exhortation; the relationship in Paul between cognition and participation; the meaning of righteousness from faith; Paul’s handling of the Jewish law. Paul And The Law
$38.99Add to cartNo issue in contemporary Pauline studies is more contested than Paul’s view of the law. “Paul & The Law” is a careful attempt to assault this crucial interpretive problem with a new strategy. Conversion In The New Testament A Print On Demand Title
$39.99Add to cartIn order to be effective in evangelism, one must clearly understand the dynamics of conversion. Richard Peace here examines two very different conversion experiences in the New Testament – Paul’s and the twelve disciples’ – and explores their implications for contemporary evangelism.
The unique feature of this book is Peace’s carefully argued proposal that Mark structures his Gospel around the unfolding conversion of the Twelve. By showing how conversion can take place either suddenly or gradually over time, Peace gives good reasons, and suggests practical ways, to replace one-sided evangelism techniques with more holistic methods.

Paul : The Man And The Myth
$29.00Add to cartWe are left to reconstruct a portrait of Paul with only scraps of what was once a large and imposing canvas-a small collection of letters and a historical narrative written a generation after his death. This reconstruction focuses on important parts of the image that usually fall in the shadows, parts dealing with Paul’s sexual asceticism, his preoccupation with holiness-holy Spirit, holy community, and holy ethos-the evolution of his theology, and his emergence as a legendary figure. Although I have tried to follow the strict rules of historical investigation, of necessity much guesswork is involved in any exploration of Paul’s life. All of these efforts are attempts to deal with the gaps in the text, understood in the broadest sense to include not just Paul’s written words but also the culture, social world, and political realities surrounding them.

Paul The Jewish Theologian
$26.00Add to cartPaul the Jewish Theologian reveals Saul of Tarsus as a man who, though rejected in the synagogue, never truly left Judaism. Author Young disagrees with long held notions that Hellenism was the context which most influenced Paul’s communication of the Gospel. This skewed notion has led to widely divergent interpretations of Paul’s writings. Only in rightly aligning Paul as rooted in his Jewishness and training as a Pharisee can he be correctly interpreted. Young asserts that Paul’s view of the Torah was always positive, and he separates Jesus’ mission among the Jews from Paul’s call to the Gentiles.
