Acts : A Theological Commentary On The Bible
$50.00Add to cartIn this new commentary for the Belief series, award-winning author and theologian Willie James Jennings explores the relevance of the book of Acts for the struggles of today. While some see Acts as the story of the founding of the Christian church, Jennings argues that it is so much more, depicting revolution-life in the disrupting presence of the Spirit of God. According to Jennings, Acts is like Genesis, revealing a God who is moving over the land, “putting into place a holy repetition that speaks of the willingness of God to invade our every day and our every moment.” He reminds us that Acts took place in a time of Empire, when the people were caught between diaspora Israel and the Empire of Rome. The spirit of God intervened, offering new life to both. Jennings shows that Acts teaches how people of faith can yield to the Spirit to overcome the divisions of our present world.

Emotionally Healthy Spirituality
$19.99Add to cartOne percent of church leaders say that churches are doing well in discipling new and young believers. After almost three decades of pastoring New Life Fellowship Church in New York City, Peter Scazzero discovered that most people are not being changed in our churches, and, as a result, are not changing the world. Scazzero found two truths to be true: (1) you can’t be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature, and (2) unless you slow your life down for a first-hand relationship with Jesus Christ, little change is possible. The integration of these two truths unleashed a spiritual revolution in Scazzero, in his church, and now in thousands of other churches. In this revised bestselling book, Scazzero outlines his journey and offers a roadmap for a discipleship with Jesus that is powerfully transformative. Topics include how to identify emotionally unhealthy spirituality, how to grow your soul through grief and loss, and how to develop into an emotionally mature adult. Offering new stories and principles, this updated edition will inspire readers to revolutionize their spiritual life.

The God-Shaped Brain Study GuideAdditional Info
What you believe about God actually changes your brain. Brain research in neuroscience has found that our thoughts and beliefs affect our physical, mental, and spiritual health. Mind and body are interrelated, and we are designed for healthy relationships of love and trust. When we understand God as good and loving, we flourish. Unfortunately, many of us have distorted images of God and mostly think of him in fearful, punitive ways. This leads us into unhealthy patterns of self-defeating behaviors and toxic relationships. But our lives can change when God renews our minds with a truer picture of him. Psychiatrist Tim Jennings unveils how our brains and bodies thrive when we have a healthy understanding of who God is. He dispels common misconceptions about God and shows how different God concepts affect the brain differently. Our brains can adapt, change, and rewire with redeemed thinking that frees us from unnecessary pain and suffering. Discover how neuroscience and Scripture come together to bring healing and transformation to our lives. This expanded edition now includes a study guide for individual reflection or group discussion, with questions for learning from Scripture, science and nature, and experience. -
Path Of Christianity
$70.99Add to cart24 Chapters
Additional Info
John Anthony McGuckin, one of the world’s leading scholars of ancient Christianity, has synthesized a lifetime of work to produce the most comprehensive and accessible history of the Christian movement during its first thousand years. The Path of Christianity takes readers on a journey from the period immediately after the composition of the Gospels, through the building of the earliest Christian structures in polity and doctrine, to the dawning of the medieval Christian establishment. McGuckin explores Eastern and Western developments simultaneously, covering grand intellectual movements and local affairs in both epic scope and fine detail. The Path of Christianity is divided into two parts of twelve chapters each. Part one treats the first millennium of Christianity in linear sequence, from the second to the eleventh centuries. In addition to covering key theologians and conciliar decisions, McGuckin surveys topics like Christian persecution, early monasticism, the global scope of ancient Christianity, and the formation of Christian liturgy. Part two examines key themes and ideas, including biblical interpretation, war and violence, hymnography, the role of women, attitudes to wealth, and early Christian views about slavery and sexuality. McGuckin gives the reader a sense of the real condition of early Christian life, not simply what the literate few had to say. Written for student and scholar alike, The Path of Christianity is a lively, readable, and masterful account of ancient Christian history, destined to be the standard for years to come. -
1 Corinthians : New Testament Volume 9A
$60.00Add to cartIn his first letter to the church in Corinth, Paul writes, “I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures” (1 Cor 15:3-4 ESV). Reflecting on Paul’s summary of the gospel, sixteenth-century biblical commentator, theologian, and Lutheran pastor Tilemann Hesshus wrote, “The central tenet and foundation of our entire religion is that our Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again for our justification. All of our comfort, salvation and hope rest upon this foundation. From this is derived that greatest comfort concerning the resurrection of the dead and the future life of eternal glory.” Throughout the church’s history, Christians have turned to the epistles of the Apostle Paul in order to understand the essentials of the Christian faith, learn from the challenges faced by early Christians, and discern how to navigate the complexities of following Christ. Among those who gained wisdom from Paul were the Protestant Reformers, who found inspiration and instruction about how to lead the church of their day during a time of significant theological debate, ecclesiastical reform, and spiritual renewal. In this volume of the Reformation Commentary on Scripture, Scott Manetsch guides readers through a diversity of Reformation-era commentary on the first of Paul’s letters to the Corinthians. Within this volume, readers will encounter familiar voices and discover lesser-known figures from a variety of theological traditions, including Lutherans, Reformed, Radicals, Anglicans, and Roman Catholics. Drawing upon a variety of resources-including commentaries, sermons, treatises, and confessions-much of which appears here for the first time in English, it provides resources for contemporary preachers, enables scholars to better understand the depth and breadth of Reformation commentary, and helps all Christians cling to the things of first importance.

Kidnapped By The Taliban
$18.99Add to cart“Am I About to Die?”
On December 5, 2012, American medical doctor Dilip Joseph and two colleagues are driving back to Kabul, Afghanistan, after serving villagers that morning at a rural clinic. Suddenly a man waving an AK-47 blocks their path. More armed men jump out of hiding. For Dilip, it is the beginning of a nightmare-he’s being kidnapped by the Taliban.
Dilip and his friends endure a nine-hour march into the mountains, gruesome images of torture and death, and repeated threats of execution. Four days later Dilip is freed in a daring and deadly rescue that claims the life of a SEAL Team Six operator. Yet this is more than a story of desperation, survival, and loss. It is also a tale of surprising connection, compassion, and inspiration. As Dilip begins to view the Taliban not as monsters but as men, both he and his captors are challenged to reexamine everything that matters: courage, sacrifice, hope, and faith.
With a jerk of his rifle, the leader points up the mountain on the left. There is no path. I look higher and see more armed men at the top of a hill about two hundred feet above us.
Apprehension surges up in me like black oil from a well. These aren’t ordinary robbers. This is too systematic.
I’ve been kidnapped by the Taliban.
As we walk, I fear the worst-that when we reach the top, they will shoot us. God, however this is going to end, please don’t let them torture me to death. Let it be one shot and done.
It is amazing how quickly everything we take for granted can be ripped away. In the space of a few minutes, I have lost all control of my life. All I can do is take a step, draw a breath, and hope I will be given the chance for another.
Step.
Breathe.
Hope.
Kidnapped by the Taliban is a story of both terror and triumph. After reading this dramatic and inspiring account, you will never view Afghanistan or the Taliban in the same way again.

“Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me, and I in them.” Dennis R. MacDonald offers a provocative explanation of those scandalous words of Christ from the Fourth Gospel-an explanation that he argues would hardly have surprised some of the Gospel’s early readers. John sounds themes that would have instantly been recognized as proper to the Greek god Dionysos (the Roman Bacchus), not least as he was depicted in Euripides’s play The Bacchae. A divine figure, the offspring of a divine father and human mother, takes on flesh to live among mortals but is rejected by his own. He miraculously provides wine and offers it as a sacred gift to his devotees, women prominent among them, dies a violent death-and returns to life. Yet John takes his drama in a dramatically different direction: while Euripides’s Dionysos exacts vengeance on the Theban throne, the Johannine Christ offers life to his followers. MacDonald employs mimesis criticism to argue that the earliest evangelist not only imitated Euripides but expected his readers to recognize Jesus as greater than Dionysos. -

Under Siege Mar
$22.99Add to cartWriting from the perspective of a student of life, history, law, politics, and theology, Don Hutchinson draws on all of these areas in ‘Under Siege’ to offer perceptive insight into the Christian Church of today’s Canada. The reader will receive the benefit of his thirty years of church leadership, Christian witness, constitutional law, and public policy experience to gain a practical understanding of how we, the Church, may cast the deciding votes on the future of Christianity in our constitutionally guaranteed ‘free and democratic society.’
How did we get here? What happened to ‘Christian’ Canada? Do we not have ‘Charter’ rights like everyone else? What does the Bible say?
Many Christians sense that an advancing secularism is trying to force upon Canadians a culture in which faith is meant to be private. Hutchinson presents historic, legal, and theological grounds for us not to hide our faith in stained-glass closets, but instead to enter Canada’s contested public space with confidence. Together as individual Christians, congregations, denominations, and para- congregational ministries, we are the Church in Canada. And together we have the capacity to impact the nation for God’s good, the good of our neighbours, and the good of ourselves. Will we?

$23.99Add to cartIn The Evangelicals: the Struggle to Shape America, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Frances FitzGerald tells the powerful, dramatic story of the Evangelical movement in America, describing the profound ways in which evangelicals have shaped our nation, our culture, and our politics. Covering
FitzGerald’s sweeping and authoritative account of Evangelicalism provides a groundbreaking work of American history, piecing together this centuries-long story for the first time. Spanning from the Puritan era to the 2016 presidential election, FitzGerald covers the initial establishment of evangelicalism as a populist rebellion against the established Protestant churches; the split between modernists and traditionalists after the Civil War; the emergence of the fundamentalist-modernist conflict and subsequent national culture wars; and the rising Christian right of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and James Dobson that helped turn the South into a Republican stronghold. She also describes how a new generation of evangelicals is challenging the Christian right by preaching social justice and the common good.
While white evangelical constitute 25 percent of American voters and are splintering and dwindling in numbers, FitzGerald believes evangelicalism has been and will continue to be important for years to come. This story, brilliantly and colorfully told in The Evangelicals, is a vital part of how the country came to be what it is.

Missing Jewel : The Worship Moverment That Impacted The Nations

Introduction To The Hebrew Prophets (Student/Study Guide)
$32.99Add to cartFollowing the Hebrew canon, the author offers a basic introduction, which includes critical issues such as authorship, unity, dates of composition and revision, and structure. Drawing upon current scholarship, Dr. Nogalski shows how these issues are relevant to the theological themes and movements that help characterize the text and hold meaning for us. The last decades have seen many changes when it comes to the study of the four Latter Prophets (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and the book of the Twelve). Among others, these changes have identified a greater role for the prophetic scroll – not merely the prophetic character – as a vehicle for conveying the prophetic message. Nogalski’s introduction to the prophets invites modern readers to hear these scrolls through the processes that shaped them, to recognize the thematic threads that traverse them, and to react to the words that confront religious and ethical complacency, that speak truth to power, and that offer hope to the oppressed. Each chapter will include a brief bibliography for further reading and discussion questions to help students focus on key concepts.

Additional Info
Five hundred years ago, Martin Luther’s Ninety-Five Theses caught Europe by storm and initiated the Reformation, which fundamentally transformed both the church and society. Yet by Luther’s own estimation, his translation of the Bible into German was his crowning achievement. The Bible played an absolutely vital role in the lives, theology, and practice of the Protestant Reformers. In addition, the proliferation and diffusion of vernacular Bibles-grounded in the original languages, enabled by advancements in printing, and lauded by the theological principles of sola Scriptura and the priesthood of all believers-contributed to an ever-widening circle of Bible readers and listeners among the people they served. This collection of essays from the 2016 Wheaton Theology Conference-the 25th anniversary of the conference-brings together the reflections of church historians and theologians on the nature of the Bible as “the people’s book.” With care and insight, they explore the complex role of the Bible in the Reformation by considering matters of access, readership, and authority, as well as the Bible’s place in the worship context, issues of theological interpretation, and the role of Scripture in creating both division and unity within Christianity. On the 500th anniversary of this significant event in the life of the church, these essays point not only to the crucial role of the Bible during the Reformation era but also its ongoing importance as “the people’s book” today. -
Religious Life Of Robert E Lee
$31.99Add to cartThe first close examination of how Robert E. Lee’s faith shaped his life Robert E. Lee was many things-accomplished soldier, military engineer, college president, family man, polarizing figure. He was also a person of deep Christian conviction. In this biography of the famous Civil War general, R. David Cox examines Lee’s beliefs and how they guided the key events of his life. Delving into family letters and other primary sources-some of them newly discovered-Cox traces the lifelong development of Lee’s convictions and how they influenced his decisions to stand with Virginia over against the Union and later to support reconciliation and reconstruction in the years after the Civil War. Faith was central to Lee’s character, Cox argues-so central that it directed and redirected his life, especially in the aftermath of defeat.

In the fall of 1980, Moscow, Idaho-“the split pea and lentil capital of the world”-had about 13,000 residents, of which about five thousand were students at the University of Idaho. On the south side of town, the basement of the Paradise Hills Church of God sat unfinished, housing only the occasional mouse family or two. On the west side, a new roller-skating rink was being completed. Elsewhere, floppy-haired Tom Garfield was assisting high-school art classes, drumming in a band, and totally unaware of the part he would play in launching Logos School and a sweeping national movement for classical, Christian education.THE FIRST BEHIND-THE-SCENES BOOK FROM THE WORLD OF CLASSICAL, CHRISTIAN EDUCATION. Non Nobis is the full account of what it actually took to start a pioneering classical Christian school, as told by Logos School’s founding superintendent, Tom Garfield. Logos School certainly began humbly: no experienced teachers, no customized curriculum, no investors, and no set salaries for anyone. But the Lord blessed this tiny school in the chimney of Idaho beyond what anyone could have expected. Hundreds of thousands of teachers and students and homeschools have benefited from the classical, Christian education from the trailblazing work done by Logos School. Today, the Association of Classical Christian Schools has over two-hundred and forty members worldwide, rigorous and faithful homeschooling is on the rise with huge nationwide organizations like Classical Conversations, and Logos School itself is able, by God’s grace, to begin looking in faith towards its second and third generations.
Tom Garfield’s humorous anecdotal style is perfect for this story. Whether he is describing broken bones, old bus problems, school uniforms, the first Atari 400, angry parents, the dead skunk, developing classical methodology for the first time, conflict in the community, trouble with the IRS, or why Christian education is more than “God posters in the classroom,” Garfield gives a first-hand account that is full of simple wisdom, wide-eyed gratitude, and much encouragement for teachers and homeschooling parents alike-or indeed for any Christians who find themselves working on small, faithful, but seemingly insignificant projects.

Muslim Insider Christ Followers
$26.99Add to cartAre Muslim insider Christ followers real believers? Are they Muslims or Christians? Does that matter? The topic of insider movements is controversial within the church. The debate rages on, opinions differ widely, and convictions often are defended aggressively. The set of voices sorely missing from this hot debate has been that of the insiders themselves. This book finally breaks that silence. Henk Prenger researched the views of 26 Muslim insider Christ followers who are leaders in their movements. You will be surprised by their insights. Prenger presents their views on 21 theology-proper topics such as God, man, the gospel, sin, Satan, the cross, heaven and hell, the Bible, and our mandate. He plotted these views in a theological/missional framework with four paradigms: Fundamental, Ecumenical, Integral, and Global. This M-Framework is a powerful catalyst for honest conversations about theological paradigms that inform how we approach insider movements and the kingdom of God on earth.

Shalom For The Heart
$11.99Add to cartJewish dedication and commitment to studying Scripture is nothing short of inspiring. Jews have long been known as careful examiners of the Bible, dedicated to understanding and growing from God’s word. These encounters not only allow Jews to study God’s instruction for faith but also provide valuable inspiration for living that faith in the everyday. In Shalom for the Heart, popular author and speaker Rabbi Evan Moffic reveals the wisdom of the Torah for today’s Christians. Beautifully written weekly Torah-inspired devotions are offered to encourage readers throughout the year. Through his readings, Moffic invites Christians to engage in a study pattern of the Jewish founders of the faith, to grow deeper in relationship with Jesus, and find meaning, comfort, and direction for our lives.

Redefining Leadership : Character Driven Habits Of Effective Leaders
$24.99Add to cartIs successful leadership measured simply by the outcomes a leader achieves, or is there another – more essential – yardstick for measuring success? In Redefining Leadership, author, pastor, and college president Joe Stowell shows us that the best leaders are driven by Christ-formed character, and that truly successful leadership is not defined by the standards of this world but by the counterintuitive practices and perspectives of the Kingdom of Christ. With compelling personal stories and insights from the Bible, he highlights the contrast between these two radically different leadership styles and demonstrates that the teaching and example of King Jesus, the world’s most unlikely leader, is the only model of leadership that leads to maximum results, results that will have an eternal impact.

The oldest girl, eleven-year-old Sarah, takes the lead role in caring for the girls and teaching them about life and faith. A baby left on their doorstep adds additional strain to an already difficult situation, but brings the girls a sense of purpose and togetherness. God Gives All Things At The Proper Time
$9.95Add to cartFrom the first sign of the light given to my spirit at the awakening and quickening of my soul, my mind has sought diligently to know the one true God. He is the Designer and Creator of all things.
My satisfaction will only be found in and by the will of God. My soul belongs to him who is trustworthy. Therefore, with these words put forth in my book, I hope you will find a delight for your edification. I pray that if you are also a child of God, my stories will connect with you in a like-minded way.
These are some of the moments in my life, past and present, where he moves within me the desire to write them down, and so I do. This is not your typical storybook in which you will read one story from beginning to end. The book contains many stories about a girl named Heather, my daughter. The story of her and her pony are intermingled throughout my book with poems and memoirs (the writer’s experiences as lived).
My life (as was yours) was well thought out in the mind of God. The pages you hold are some of my documented experiences of his thoughts that he has shared with me, lived out through a gift of life.
This book was to have originally been a children’s book, but as I began to write, it proved to be more for an adult audience.
The book also includes some Bible scripture.

Good Bye Poems
$9.95Add to cartThe purpose of this poetry is dual. Firstly, for humor and entertainment so we can appreciate the things we have. Secondly, to get people to think of the very serious and sobering times we are living in. In life we all experience things that breakdown or wear away and need to be replaced or repaired. We can take clothes or items for granted. When certain things are worn away or no longer function, we are forced to take notice. A malfunctioning hot water tank, for example, will really be missed. Like many a property owner, the author knows about the frustration and expenses to replace things. He puts a humorous spin on things with rhymes. For example: “Good-bye, faithful underwear, I will always remember us as a happy pair. But there is no doubt you are all worn out. You have lost your elasticity; therefore, I will have to dispose of you as fast as electricity.” “Good-bye, suppository; you are important, but you get no glory.” “Good-bye, toilet bowl; I must rid you; that is my goal.” “Good-bye, toothbrush; have to get rid of you in a rush.” “Good-bye, long time refrigerator; I cannot say, see you you later.” In Poor Richards Almanac, Benjamin Franklin stated, “When the well’s dry, we know the worth of water.” We can appreciate big or small conveniences in life. From a religious and serious perspective: “Good-bye, America, sorry to see you go, seeing your character and morals have sunk so low.” Even So Come, Lord Jesus” is a prophetic poem. “Good-bye, Death and Grave” speaks of things and life being temporary. The author ends certain poems with a biblical prophetic and positive message: There is a future hope beyond our physical existence. Editor’s note: In this highly observant yet humorous collection, the author examines various good-byes life brings: to unwanted pounds, to old tools that have been used up, or to needed items in sudden accidents. Some partings are sweeter than others; a spectrum of emotion is covered in these poems. Readers will laugh at some poems and relate to others, making this a well-rounded, enjoyable compilation.

1 Plus One Equals One
$14.99Add to cartWHY ANOTHER MARRIAGE BOOK? There was need for a book with short, practical chapters with assignments and suggested prayers so that people could read for a little while and grab hold of something that they could apply to their marriage right away. The chapters needed to be short enough that husband and wife could read it together without too much inconvenience, enjoy the time together, and even discuss the content of the chapters. The fact that the lessons are so practical, and, therefore, immediately applicable, is huge. The assignments give direction as to the application. Then the icing on the cake: for the husband and wife to pray out loud what is suggested at the end of each chapter, brings a real sense of honesty before each other, and before the Lord.

Competing Fundamentalisms : Violent Extremism In Christianity Islam And Hin
$40.00Add to cartWhy do certain groups and individuals seek to do harm in the name of God? While studies often claim to hold the key to this frightening phenomenon, they seldom account for the crucial and growing role that religious fundamentalism plays not just in radical Islam but also in the world’s two other largest religions: Christianity and Hinduism. As the first book to examine violent extremism in the world’s three largest religions together, Sathianathan Clarke draws on studies in sociology, psychology, culture, and economics to paint a richer portrait of this potent force in modern life. Clarke argues that religious fundamentalism is fueled and driven by the forces of globalization; that religious fundamentalists have more in common with their counterparts across religious lines than they do with the members of their own religions; and that religious fundamentalism becomes a surrogate religion, replacing in all three cases the religious tradition from which it arose.
In light of the challenges these competing fundamentalisms pose to the peace and stability of the world, Clarke proposes that Christians, Muslims, and Hindus refuse to allow modern fundamentalism to define their ancient religious traditions. Instead, he calls for a rejection of fundamentalism’s zero-sum world in favor of a serious and sustained engagement with the members of all the world’s religions, as well as those of no religion. Readers will gain new and important insight into the problem of religious extremism and violence by seeing how it works in the world’s three largest religions.
