A 2003 Finalist in the United Kingdom Christian Book Awards! “Albert,” the neighbor said, “your mom needs you to come home.” That’s how it began for Albert Hsu when his father died. Anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide experiences tremendous shock and trauma. What follows is a confusing mix of emotions-anger, guilt, grief, and despair. Suicide raises heartrending questions: Why did this happen? Why didn’t we see it coming? Could we have done anything to prevent it? How can we go on? Many also wonder if those who choose suicide are doomed to an eternity separated from God and their loved ones. Some may even start asking whether life is worth living at all. After his father’s death, Hsu wrestled with the intense emotional and theological questions surrounding suicide. While acknowledging that there are no easy answers, he draws on the resources of the Christian faith to point suicide survivors to the God who offers comfort in our grief and hope for the future. For those who have lost a loved one to suicide and for their counselors and pastors, this book is an essential companion for the journey toward healing. This revised edition incorporates the latest statistics, has expanded resources for suicide prevention and mental health ministry, and now includes a discussion guide for suicide survivor groups. -

Kingdom Disciples : Heavens Representatives On Earth
$18.40Add to cartThe missing key to Christianity in America
There is a missing key in Christianity today. It is a critical key, and its absence has led to weak believers, disintegrating families, ineffective churches, and a decaying culture. Without the full use of this key, we lack the tools needed to fully live as heaven’s representatives on earth.
That missing key is discipleship. In Kingdom Disciples, Tony Evans outlines a simple, actionable definition of discipleship to help the church fulfill its calling. Readers will learn:
*What a disciple essentially is
*What a disciple cares about
*How to be a disciple and make disciples
*What discipleship looks like in community
*What the impact of discipleship on the world should beKingdom disciples are short supply, and the results are legions of powerless Christians attending powerless churches, resulting in a powerless presence in the world. The power, authority, abundance, victory, and impact God has promised will only come about when we understand and align ourselves with His definition of discipleship.
It is the goal of this book Kingdom Disciples to call believers and churches back to our primary, divinely ordained responsibility to be disciples and make disciples. Only when we take seriously this assignment will the world see heaven at work on earth. Will you accept the assignment?
Useful for base material in a course on discipleship.

Stand Strong In Your Faith
$21.99Add to cartWhat do you stand for? For truth? For Jesus? For traditional marriage? Or pro-life? A large population of Christians say they stand for what the Bible teaches, yet, when challenged, they can’t articulate what that exactly is. Millennials find this same group of Christians to be rigid, judgmental, condescending, and just plain intolerant of their emergent views.
In all the posts, tweets, podcasts, and sound bites from political pundits, there is an absence of Christians standing strong in their faith. The presence and voice of Christianity is being flooded out by other growing religions and ideologies. So where does that leave Christianity?
If you desire to stand strong in your faith-to know what you believe and why it’s important in your everyday life, this book is for you. Be inspired to live what you believe as you learn about these and other topics:
*Religious freedom or religious discrimination
*Six Christian duties no one else can do for you
*The role of the Holy Spirit in a believer’s life
*Do we all worship the same God?
*How to be fearless in the midst of fear
*Did Jesus really rise from the dead?
*How can I know if the Bible is true?
*What’s the best way to study the Bible? It is not enough to say you’re a Christian. In Stand Strong in Your Faith, authors Jason Jimenez and Alex McFarland share bold truth that will take you from saying you believe to actually living what you believe with confidence and passion.

Fear Not : A Journey From Fear To Freedom
$19.99Add to cartWhat has fear stolen from you or your loved one? Fear is a dream killer, and if left unchecked, it will keep you from walking in your destiny. The good news is in the Good News. God, in His word, reveals everything we need to know to totally eradicate fear from our lives. In “Fear Not! A Journey from Fear to Freedom,” Gary Hohweiler examines every scripture dealing with fear, anxiety, and worry, and applies God’s solution to each and every situation. God took the time to make sure He gave us everything we need to live a fearless life.
Many of us treat God’s word like the owner’s manual in our car. We pull it out only when we have a problem. Well, fear is a problem for 99.9 percent of the population. If you are in the .1 percent not impacted, please disregard this book. By the way, His word was not given to us as a suggestion. God’s word is like medicine to the soul and spirit: apply it liberally, daily until you walk in complete freedom of fear. Gary Hohweiler had a radical encounter with God on a New Mexico mountaintop on September 10, 2005. That day, he received a heart transplant performed by the Lord Himselt. It was there that Gary learned God could use anyone to accomplish His purpose. He and Randa Lea, his wife of thirty-three years, have just recently moved back to God’s country (aka Oklahoma). They have been happily married for nine years since his heart transplant. Gary has served as a deacon and LifeGroup leader at Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, for the past five years.

As We Follow The Path
$22.95Add to cartThese forty discussions address key questions and puzzling matters in the Bible. With an analytical mind and a vein of humor, Pelletier comments on the “Star of Bethlehem” (likely not a star), Jesus’ brothers and sisters, Satan’s attempts to kill Jesus so it “wouldn’t count” as a sacrifice of the Lamb, how the Trinity was “ruptured” on Calvary, why many marriages are not God’s sacred unions, the modern trend of thanking the Universe, whether or not there are “guardian angels,” and other matters.
If the “Star of Bethlehem” wasn’t a star, what was it?
Does all history come down to the two lines of Abraham’s descendants?
Micheal, Michael, what’s the difference?
When is it dangerous to “think outside the box”?

Simply Revelation
$17.95Add to cartThere are signs all around the world that are pointing to the tribulation period to come. Within the last decade, the world has seen a rise in earthquakes, violent storms, hurricanes, and weird weather patterns, and all seem to get worse as each year goes by. We see monetary problems all around the world. We have seen wars and heard rumors of war. Drought and famine have been present in the world or the struggle of power within some nations. We have seen the cruelty of man upon man in this world and how painful it is. As the cup of iniquity of this world rises, so is the coming judgment of this world by God.
Do you want to know why the antichrist will not rule the world? What is the real reason behind the mark of the beast? How will God send his angels to preach the everlasting Gospel for the last time? Why does Jesus come on a secret mission? How will Jesus, the saints, and angels return to the earth to save Israel?
The book of Revelation is jam-packed with so much information, and it’s sometimes hard to understand what it all means. Simply Revelation breaks down the chapters in Revelation in a way that’s easy to understand. Learn what brings on the confirming of the covenant with many nations by the antichrist. Understand how the two witnesses control the environment of the world in the first half of the tribulation period. Simply Revelation will bring you clarity to God’s coming judgment!

Mercy That Endureth
$12.99Add to cartWhen I think about the mercy of God especially toward this generation where there is less or no more regard for God Almighty as it were in those days; where everyone indulge themselves in evil act, where religion has become an excuse for an act of terror, where the love of money has replaced the love of God even in the heart of the believers, where corruption has become the order of the day, where youth idolizes the things of the world and lust after its immorality, where knowledge has become a snare and wisdom a pestilence to the citizen of the world. Then this I concluded in my heart that if God can be patient enough to delay His wrath of His judgement over the world in general, then I think it is an understatement to say He is merciful but I will rather say God Himself is the definition, the true depiction and the description of mercy. This book reveals the deep things about the mercy of God which many Christians don’t really realize. What more did you know about the mercy of God and what can we say about its efficacy. But the mercy of God is way beyond what we think and we need to learn a little more about it, that we might appreciate God.

Tales For The Masses
$16.95Add to cartThe word “homily” comes from the Greek word meaning conversation. The stories in Tales For The Masses: Stories Connecting Scripture To Everyday Life largely contain dialogue – realistic conversations between family members, co-workers and neighbors of all ages. Here is a new collection of previously unpublished stories that connect Scripture to contemporary, everyday life. Tim writes for the parishioner who’s wondering “Why should I listen to you?” by imparting stories to which the parishioner can easily relate. Someone may ask you, “Who told you about me, anyway?” after hearing a homily or sermon with one of these stories in it. In this way, the Scripture message can be seen as relevant to all generations. In this book, author Tim Healy provides homilists and educators material they can use for their own reflection, to help people connect Scripture with what goes on in normal life, and to get people excited about worship because its relevance has been made transparent.
Just a few of the chapters included:
Murphy the Grump
Katie and the Spirit

Angelomorphic Christology : Antecedents And Early Evidence
$44.99Add to cartIn Angelomorphic Christology author Charles Gieschen demonstrates that angel and angel-related traditions, especially those built upon the so-called “Angel of the Lord” figure in the Hebrew Bible, had a profound impact upon the origin, development, and shape of early Christian claims about Jesus.
Gieschen’s book falls neatly into two halves. The first catalogues the various antecedents for Angelomorphic Christology-Jewish speculation about principal angels, mediator figures, and related phenomena-with chapters on “An Angelomorphic God,” “Angelomorphic Divine Hypostases” (including the Divine Name, the Divine Glory, Wisdom, the Word, the Spirit and Power), Principal Named Angels, and Angelomorphic Humans. The book’s second half examines the evidence for Angelomorphic Christology in early Christian literature. This portion begins with a brief overview of the principal Angel and Angelomorphic Christology from Justin to Nicea and then examines, in turn, the Pseudo-Clementines, the Shepherd of Hermas, the Ascension of Isaiah, the Revelation of John, the Fourth Gospel, the Epistle to the Hebrews, and the Pauline Corpus.
Gieschen argues that Christian use of the angelomorphic tradition did not spawn a new and variant kind of Christology, one that competed with accepted belief about Jesus for early Christians’ favor, but instead shows how Christians adapted an already variegated Jewish tradition to weave a single story about a common Lord.

Kingdom Learning : Experiential And Reflective Approaches To Christian Form
$36.99Add to cartFor generations most churchgoers have been encouraged to see the responsibility for the life and mission of the church in the hands of the trained clergy. A church embracing God’s call to mission requires these same worshippers to see themselves as “missionary disciples” with a vital part to play in the church’s ministry. How is a change of this magnitude to be accomplished?
Drawing on the discipline of adult education and his own research into the way people learn, David Heywood explains how churches can become learning communities in which people grow as disciples and find their place in a collaborative pattern of ministry. He challenges the prevailing approach to ministerial training as overly theoretical and individualistic, and points towards a model of training based around shared reflection on practice.

The literary relationships among the Synoptic Gospels have long attracted scholarly attention which has now generally coalesced into the predominant Two- (or Four-) Source Hypothesis and leading alternatives, the Griesbach (or Two-Gospel) Hypothesis (Mark used Matthew and Luke) and the Farrer Hypothesis (Luke used Mark and Matthew). Thomas J. Mosb here argues that no theory of Synoptic relations is adequate unless it can satisfactorily explain the extensive middle third of Luke’s Gospel, the so-called Travel Narrative (9:51-19:27), where Luke departs from the order shown in either Matthew or Mark and assembles stories and sayings that develop themes concerning discipleship that are important to Luke. Mosb examines this narrative as a composed narrative, not merely an assembly of “materials,” and finds that Luke has reordered materials taken from Matthew and from Mark in a very particular manner. He then examines Luke’s purposes in the Gospel as a whole, then addresses objections raised by Q advocates to the hypothesis that Luke knew Matthew. At length Mosb offers his own hypothesis of Synoptic relationships, including the relationship between Matthew and Mark. -

Although the Psalms of Asaph (Pss. 50, 73?83) contain a concentration of historical referents unparalleled in the Psalter, they have rarely attracted sustained historical interest. Karl N. Jacobson identifies these psalms as containing cultic historiography, historical narratives written for recitation in worship, and explores them through mnemohistory, attending to how the past is remembered and to the rhetorical function of recitation in the cultic setting. Jacobson describes mnemohistory at the intersection of memory and history, explores the singularity of the rhetorical and formals aspects of remembrance in the Asaph material, and discusses “residual mnemohistory,” material that is not intentionally called to remembrance. Jacobson shows that Asaph “remembers” the past as a movement from henotheism to a more orthodox form of Yahwism as the core memory that informs a new historical situation for worship participants. By describing the “way Asaph remembers,” Jacobson highlights symbolic and individualized elements of the psalms’ mnemohistorical work that earlier form-critical approaches failed to recognize. -

Mechanistic dehumanization occurs when human beings are objectified and exploited as a means to an end, comparable to expendable components of a machine. This misconstruction of human value is a source and sustainer of overproduction, an excess of consumption, and the pursuit of unrestrained economic growth, damaging both people and the planet. Can the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Global Mission respond to mechanistic dehumanization through mission as accompaniment?
The notion of mission as accompaniment, which emerges from liberation theology and development methodology, promotes solidarity among church companions that embodies interdependence and mutuality. Grounded in the New Testament expression of koinonia, Mission as Accompaniment is affirmed in this study as a suitable foundation to counteract mechanistic dehumanization.
Through this research with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) Theology and Development program, Brian E. Konkol incorporates economics, ecology, anthropology, and postcolonial missiology. He maintains that two particular elements-the African concept of Ubuntu, and an Olive Agenda-when integrated into mission as accompaniment, will equip the ELCA Global Mission with an advocacy-driven trajectory in response to mechanistic dehumanization.

When Parenting Isnt Perfect
$19.99Add to cartPerfection is the enemy of parenting. Jim Daly sees and hears from mothers and fathers trying hard to pursue perfection. They listen to the best experts and read all the right books. When someone gives them a “World’s Best Mom” or “No. 1 Dad” coffee mug, they want it to be true. And they want their children to pursue perfection, too.
It’s admirable for parents to be the very best moms and dads they can be for their children. But sometimes in so doing, they leave grace behind-both for themselves and their children. Jim believes that our quest for perfection, a quest that he believes is particularly strong among Christians, runs counter to God’s own boundless gift of grace. We can become Pharisaical parents, quoting endless rules and holding everyone to impossible standards. But God doesn’t want us, and our kids don’t need us, to be perfect. As parents, we’re called to simply do our best. And when we fail-which we will-we’re called to try again tomorrow.
Though he’s the President of Focus on the Family, Jim does not promise that his book will be a catalyst for a perfect family. But it can help point the way toward a good family-one that feels safe and warm; one filled with love and laughter. This book will encourage mothers and fathers to embrace the messiness of parenthood and show grace to their own less-than-ideal children. Jim, through his own experiences, expertise, and array of stories, will lead both moms and dads to a better understanding of what being a good family is all about.

Light Is Winning
$16.99Add to cartIf anyone had good reason to join the league of the “Nones,” the “Dones,” and the deconstructionists, it would be Zach Hoag. After growing up and out of the compound walls of a Texas cult, and becoming a failed church planter in one of the most post-Christian cities in America, Zach was faced with both a crisis and a choice. He loved Jesus, yet questioned: If the church is such a broken system, is it really worth belonging to anymore?
The viral upswing of the “spiritual but not religious” trend has cast religion as going rapidly out of style. Yet even in his own desert of deconstruction, Zach couldn’t shake his desire for a spiritual home. His search ultimately led him to look behind the statistics, where Zach found an astonishing undercurrent subversively at work.
The truth, as Zach discovered, is that we are in a cultural moment of apocalypse. Not an end-of-the-world apocalypse, but in the very literal sense of the word which translates simply, “a revealing.” Perhaps the downtrend of Christian faith in America is just the kind of Great Revealing we need to show us who we really are as American Christians, who Jesus really is in our midst, and how we can step into the flourishing faith he has always intended for us.
For anyone who is anxious about the future of the church and their place in it, The Light Is Winning rallies to an unexpected, unshakeable hope: Could it be that we’ve made religion out to be the culprit when in fact, religion is just what we need to revive us? Could it be that our struggle for relevance must come to a necessary end, so that we can get to the real? After all, isn’t this the essence of the story of God: death paves the way for a resurrected, deeply rooted, flourishing faith. Such faith can be yours. The Light Is Winning will show you how.

Fierce Love : One Womans Courageous Journey To Save Her Marriage
$16.99Add to cartLove is easy to give when you are getting it back. Are we still called to God’s plan of how to love when we are getting none in return? Shauna Shanks’s brave journey through obedience reveals the outcome of when we dare to follow God’s ludicrous outline for love as described in 1 Corinthians 13.
Wrecked with news of her husband’s affair and his request for a divorce, Shauna finds herself urgently faced with a decision. Does she give up and divorce her husband and move on, or does she try to fight for her marriage? The former choice seems to contradict God’s plan for how to love, such as “love never gives up,” “love is patient,” and “love is kind.”
Taking God at His word and assuming the love chapter was really meant to be followed literally word by word, she not only finds herself falling in love with her spouse again, but also falling in love with Jesus, which changes everything.
First Corinthians 13 presents an audacious, illogical, and irrational context of how to love, meant to be applied to every marital context not just the fairytale marriage. If God’s instructions seem illogical and audacious, you might just expect the same kind of results in return!
This book is not air-brushed. It was written in the midst of the author’s deepest trauma, and she purposefully did not edit out her mistakes and failures during that season. This book will resonate with women who do not feel like the picture-perfect Christian woman with the fairytale life and marriage.
A Fierce Love is the story of a train wreck and reaching out to God not in the calm but in the chaos and finding hope for the future.

Mark wrote his Gospel to explain why and how Jesus is the Messiah and Son of God who fulfills God’s promises as he proclaims and embodies the coming kingdom of God. Mark emphasizes Jesus’s authority and also his suffering and death as God’s will for his messianic mission. This Tyndale New Testament commentary from Eckhard Schnabel seeks to help today’s Christian disciples communicate the significance of Jesus and the transforming power of the good news. An exegetical commentary on the Gospel of Mark, this volume will be useful for preachers, Bible teachers, and non-specialists alike. -

Kate O’Brien has been leading a quiet life in small-town Shelter Cove, Arkansas, for the past four years when her past suddenly comes roaring back to life. Four years ago, she and her twin sister were attacked by an elusive serial killer. Only Kate survived, and it was her drawing of the attacker–along with some last-minute evidence–that convicted the suspect. She’s been in witness protection ever since, but new evidence suggests the convicted man isn’t the murderer and she’s been subpoenaed to testify in the new trial.
Nervous about the risk, she’ll only agree if the same marshal who protected her during the original trial escorts her to St. Louis. Deputy U.S. Marshal Tony DeLuca accepts the assignment to bring Kate to the trial, remembering how her strength impressed him. While in Shelter Cove, however, he gets a call from his chief, advising them to stay in Shelter Cove until a new development in the case can be straightened out. But when Kate’s safety is threatened, Tony must race against the clock to keep her alive and put this ugly case to rest before anyone else gets killed.

This book will make no attempt to defend God. . . . If you are looking for a book that boasts triumphantly of conquest over a great enemy, or gives a detached philosophical analysis that neatly solves an absorbing problem, this isn’t it. Too often the Christian attitude toward suffering is characterized by a detached academic appeal to God’s sovereignty, as if suffering were a game or a math problem. Or maybe we expect that since God is good, everything will just work out all right somehow. But where then is honest lament? Aren’t we shortchanging believers of the riches of the Christian teaching about suffering? In Embodied Hope Kelly Kapic invites us to consider the example of our Lord Jesus. Only because Jesus has taken on our embodied existence, suffered alongside us, died, and been raised again can we find any hope from the depths of our own dark valleys of pain. As we look to Jesus, we are invited to participate not only in his sufferings, but also in the church, which calls us out of isolation and into the encouragement and consolation of the communal life of Christ. Drawing on his own family’s experience with prolonged physical pain, Kapic reshapes our understanding of suffering into the image of Jesus, and brings us to a renewed understanding of-and participation in-our embodied hope. -

Commentaries On The 12 Prophets 2
$70.99Add to cartJerome (c. 347-419/20), one of the West’s four doctors of the church, was recognized early on as one of the church’s foremost translators, commentators, and advocates of Christian asceticism. Skilled in Hebrew and Greek in addition to his native Latin, he was thoroughly familiar with Jewish traditions and brought them to bear on his understanding of the Old Testament. Beginning in 379, Jerome used his considerable linguistic skills to translate Origen’s commentaries and, eventually, to translate and comment on Scripture himself. Jerome began writing commentaries on the twelve minor prophets in 392 while preparing his Latin Vulgate translation of the Bible. After completing Nahum, Micah, Zephaniah, Haggai, and Habakkuk, he was interrupted in 393 by the Origenist controversy, after which he became a vocal critic of Origen of Alexandria. He finished his commentaries on Jonah and Obadiah in 396. These seven commentaries are available in volume one. The Origenist controversy and his commentary on Matthew occupied his time for the next several years. He finally completed the rest of the twelve prophets in 406. This Ancient Christian Text volume, edited and translated by Thomas Scheck in collaboration with classics students from Ave Maria University, includes those final five commentaries on Zechariah, Malachi, Hosea, Joel, and Amos. Throughout these commentaries Jerome refers frequently to the work of previous commentators, and his spiritual exegesis relies heavily on the exegetical work of Origen-though he acknowledges that “I have not followed them in everything.” Jerome hears in these texts God’s judgment and mercy not only on Israel but especially on the Christian community. In Amos, for example, he says that “whatever we have said about Judah refers to the church.” He wrestles especially with the scandalous message of Hosea, which he refers to as drowning with Pharaoh during the crossing of the Red Sea. But he trusts that “the ways of the Lord are the reading of the Old and New Testament, the understanding of the holy Scriptures.” Jerome’s magisterial commentaries help us walk more faithfully in God’s ways.

Christology Of The Family
$14.99Add to cartChristology of the Family is about learning to care for one another as Christ cares for us. The heart of the gospel is centered on the caring love of God. The incarnation, atonement, Word of God, the sacraments, and the church itself, would not exist without God’s redemptive care for each of us. The calling of a disciple is to care, and it comes straight from the heart of God through the work of the Holy Spirit, who gifts us in ways to care for the lost, the suffering, and the brokenhearted. The family has been affected by our culture of entertainment and immediacy. The result has been that it has lost sight of its primary purpose to care for one another as the Good Shepherd cares for His sheep.
The Christian family needs to reclaim the heart of the gospel and create new disciples, not just church members. The pastoral care community has to be trained in listening and in reflecting theologically from practical experience. All disciples are to be caregivers, whether at home with family, at work, or in the church. The job of the church and the family is to train, support, and guide them.
