7 Men : And The Secret Of Their Greatness
$19.99In Seven Men, New York Times best-selling author Eric Metaxas presents seven exquisitely crafted short portraits of widely known-but not well understood-Christian men, each of whom uniquely showcases a commitment to live by certain virtues in the truth of the gospel. Written in a beautiful and engaging style, Seven Men addresses what it means (or should mean) to be a man today, at a time when media and popular culture present images of masculinity that are not the picture presented in Scripture and historic civil life. What does it take to be a true exemplar as a father, brother, husband, leader, coach, counselor, change agent, and wise man? What does it mean to stand for honesty, courage, and charity, especially at times when the culture and the world run counter to those values? Each of the seven biographies represents the life of a man who experienced the struggles and challenges to be strong in the face of forces and circumstances that would have destroyed the resolve of lesser men.
Each of the seven men profiled-George Washington, William Wilberforce, Eric Liddell, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Jackie Robinson, John Paul II, and Charles Colson-call the reader to a more elevated walk and lifestyle, one that embodies the gospel in the world around us.Add to cartin stock within 3-5 days of online purchase

Song Of Songs
$20.99This Old Testament book, ‘the best of songs’, has fascinated and perplexed interpreters for centuries. We hear the passionate melody of romantic love, and are confronted by erotic imagery but whose love is described? Is it a couple’s love for each other, God’s love for his people, or a poem that speaks to love in all its dimensions? Iain Duguid’s commentary explains how the Song is designed to show us an idealized picture of married love, in the context of a fallen and broken world. It also convicts us of how far short of this perfection we fall, both as humans and as lovers, and drives us repeatedly into the arms of our true heavenly husband, Jesus Christ. The Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries have long been a trusted resource for Bible study. Written by some of the world’s most distinguished evangelical scholars, these twenty-eight volumes offer clear, reliable and relevant explanations of every book in the Old Testament, aiming to get at the true meaning of the Bible and to make its message plain to readers today.

Daily Devotions For Die Hard Fans Tennessee Volunteers
$19.99Extra Point Publishers
Daily Devotions for Die-Hard Fans: Tennessee Volunteers combines the great passion of the Big Orange fan with the grand passion of the fan of Christ in one set of devotions. The result is a book that is fun while it provides a time of reflection about God and your faith. Butch Jones made a promise, but it took a great Vols’ comeback to keep it alive. Life was great for UT’s Sarah Fekete until she got hit in the face. It was once so cold at a game that when UT’s center spit blood, it turned into an icicle on his face guard. A pair of hungry Tennessee basketball players once misplaced a train. Even an opposing coach told Pat Summitt to wait ’til next year, and then the Lady Vols won another national title. These stories and more are recounted here. Also appearing are Peyton Manning, Bob Neyland, Peerless Price, Candace Parker, and many others. Their stories along with legendary games, improbable victories, and historical events are told with a twist: They are all tied to God’s story.Add to cartin stock within 3-5 days of online purchase

Me To We
$21.99Churches with front doors that open up mission fields rather than buildings. When Christians answer the clarion call to be missional, too often it is primarily to feel good or to grow in their own faith. But ultimately we remain unsatisfied because, in the end, it’s still about “me”-my church, my faith, my salvation. Then sometimes inspiration dries up.
We forget that Jesus is the head of the Church, which exists at God’s pleasure and disposal. God is birthing a new Social Gospel, meant to reclaim mission and justice ministries as prime directives for the Church, and not with the naive thinking of the 19th or 20th centuries.
What are the characteristics of this new Social Gospel? There is an expectation that mission is “with” and not “for” others. There is an acknowledgement that tolerance is not a dirty word and we have to find a peaceable way to live in our intercultural world. It carries the Wesleyan impulse to change the world by working to build God’s kingdom in this world. It offers the grace and salvation of Christ to those in need, believing that none are free unless all are free. It means that we feed the hungry, educate to poor, and equip the powerless in tangible ways.

No Trespassing : Im Gods Property
$14.99This book contains transforming truths every young woman should know about her sexuality, her worth, and her God-given destiny.
Let’s talk about sex. We might as well talk about it, because it’s everywhere. Our culture continually bombards us with its way for sex in movies, television shows, music, magazines, and other media. But do you know that God has a way for sex, too? In fact, He created sex-it was His great idea! In No Trespassing: I’m God’s Property, Leah Holder proposes that God’s way is the best way. Leah first explains why we should follow God’s rules for sex. In addition to faith-based reasons, she highlights practical reasons, such as sexually transmitted diseases, unplanned pregnancies, and mental health issues. Then, Leah answers the next big question: How? Is it even possible to follow God’s way for sex when so many people don’t? With clarity, transparency, and humor, Leah presents Biblical truths and personal testimonies regarding how we can be sexually pure within this sex-crazy world. No Trespassing contains three brief sections-mind, body, and heart. Within them, Leah provides practical tips to guide us on our journeys to sexual purity. If we’re already on the sexually-pure path, we’ll be encouraged to remain on it. If we’ve departed from the sexually-pure path, or if we’ve never been on it, we’ll be reminded of God’s love and forgiveness, and we’ll be directed to the way to purity. Out of her love for God, others, and herself, Leah Holder has committed to live sexually pure. Although she falls far short of perfection, the Lord has enabled her to live in consistent victory over sexual sin. The advice she provides in No Trespassing isn’t based on a theory she heard about but on a reality she lives! After reading No Trespassing, Leah hopes you will experience the victory and freedom that she enjoys. Many young women experience the devastating effects of sexual activity outside of marriage. These include guilt, shame, unplanned pregnancies, family problems, and even legal and medical issues. This book addresses the root of these issues and offers encouragement and solutions. It urges young women to protect their minds, bodies, and hearts, and it contains Biblical truths, personal testimonies, and practical tips to help them do so.

Your God Given Dignity
$14.99Your God Given Dignity has thirty days of interesting and fun ideas/practices for acknowledging and loving yourself so that you can be your best for God, your family, and the world.
Your God Given Dignity is a heartfelt yet fun companion to help make positive changes in self-acknowledgment. Often Christian women work very hard, taking on leadership and supportive roles in the church, community, at their jobs and with their families, only to neglect themselves to their own physical, mental, and spiritual detriment. When complete in Christ, living in relationship with the heavenly Father, we can handle what is necessary, know when to say enough, and know when to ask for help. The practices within these pages help bring us back to alignment. Your God Given Dignity presents simple concepts with verses and quotes, insights and action steps that incorporate learning strategies using all five senses (given to us by God for a purpose) to imbed positive thoughts-and especially God’s words-into our brains. The goal is to bring our minds back from “unworthy” thoughts to what God thinks through repetition and other practices. The renewed mind becomes easier as the thoughts of God, positive images, and supportive actions are consistently practiced and reinforced. Some of these practices involve goal setting and observing daily life to find personal strengths and passions so they can be strengthened even more. Christ’s disciples were just that-“disciplined ones”-but it doesn’t happen overnight. That is what we endeavor to pursue, step-by-step discipline, with these positive practices to incorporate God’s thoughts into our minds. Gentle reminders of what we do have put us back on the road to full capacity with less internal resistance. The trick is to acknowledge those things in ourselves and remember that God has made us worthy. “Failures” need to be forgiven and forgotten, and successes acknowledged for the gift they are. When we can truly believe God at His Word without reservation, through the renewed mind, we can shine as brilliant lights in this world.

Welcome To The Orthodox Church
$19.99There are other introductory books about Orthodoxy, but they are all somewhat academic. This one comprehensively covers the history, theology, and practice without talking over your head. Mathewes-Green takes the original approach of bringing you into a typical church for a series of visits. That is how Christians learned the faith for most of history, by coming into a community and keeping their eyes and ears open. Designed primarily for newcomers to come to understand Orthodoxy and Orthodox Christians, this guide to the faith is also a non-threatening and accessible introduction to people already “in the pews.” Inviting rather than argumentative, Orthodox Christians will be giving this to their friends.

Genesis Journal A Fresh Reading Of Genesis 1-12
$26.60This book is based on a solid commitment to the truth of God’s revelation. We would not know how this world came into being unless God had told us. The sequence of events would remain a mystery without an accurate record of Creation. This book is a retelling of what God has said concerning our creation.
The global nature of the first eleven chapters of Genesis reminds us of our insignificance, but on the other hand, the interaction of God with man reflects His assessment of our importance. We are made in God’s image, and that is of great significance.
The physical evidence for a cataclysmic destruction somewhere in the earth’s history is evident in the rocks and fossils. The biblical record explains the reason, the cause, the duration, and the recovery from this great flood. The record of that year supplies answers to a host of geological questions that would otherwise remain hidden. Likewise, the anthropological insight the Babel event supplies is unparalleled in history. God’s Word gives us answers to questions we didn’t even know to ask.
Finally, regarding our salvation-Genesis 12 provides us with the document signed by God that is the basis for our redemption. How do we participate in so great a salvation? Read and see.Add to cartin stock within 3-5 days of online purchase

These debates are extramural in nature, meaning that they define biblical Christianity and are essential to the Christian identity. The Eleven Conversations: Abortion, Baptism and Lord’s Supper, Church Government, Divorce and Remarriage, Ecumenism, End Time Scenarios, Gifts of the Holy Spirit, Music in the Church, Origins, Politics and War, Reformed vs. Arminian Theology, and Women in the Church. These conversations are intramural in nature, being issues that Christians may disagree on, but they invite differing interpretations. They are squabbles taking place within the Family.

Until Shiloh Comes
$15.28Historical Chronicles Press
In the Civil War Battle of Shiloh, two soldiers are among the many thousands wounded or killed. One is Stanley, a Yankee, shot, his leg broken. The other is a Confederate, mortally wounded, the son of a local Christian family. Stanley tells Davina, the Confederate’s mother, where her son is?on the condition that she will nurse him back to health. In spite of her anger that a Yankee should demand this of her, she agrees. Before her son dies, he urges his mother to take care of the Union soldier as if he were her own son.
Davina’s family is outraged that the soldier whose army killed their brother is being allowed to recover in their home. But her youngest son, Willy, who is blind, befriends Stanley. Eventually her teenaged daughter, Anna, and Stanley fall in love. But the oldest remaining son, Luke, resists Stanley with all his heart. Stanley befriends a slave family, the Jacksons, and they lead him to faith in Christ. But Luke’s bitterness grows, and after wounding Stanley, he betrays him to a slave trader. Can Stanley escape and remain with the family he has come to love?
Until Shiloh Comes is a story of love?love between Stanley and Anna, and love among the members of the two families on the farm, one white, one black. It is a story of honor and loyalty. It is a story of personal choices and their consequences. And once you have begun this new novel, you won’t be able to put it down.

Mean Moms Guide To Raising Great Kids
$14.99“Mom, you’re so mean!” Do you struggle to instill loving boundaries and become discouraged when your child doesn’t like you for them? Let The Mean Mom’s Guide inspire you to dig in and stand your ground when parenting gets tough-because a mean mom isn’t always the mean you think it means.
The Mean Mom’s Guide to Raising Great Kids encourages overly nice “marshmallow” moms to instill a few much-needed boundaries. It motivates parents to stand their ground when childrearing is tough, most especially when a child doesn’t like them for it.
Covering parenting from preschool to high school, each of the four sections highlights topics specific to each age. Scripture is weaved throughout as a continual reminder of God’s truth, and “Mom 2 Mom” quotes at the end of each chapter are filled with heartfelt transparency from dozens of moms who lent their own experiences to encourage the reader. Mean moms encourage openly, love passionately, and know full well being called mean by her child is oftentimes a compliment.

Christian Mission And Economic Systems
$25.87Christian mission in the twenty-first century has emphasized endeavors that address poverty alleviation, business as mission, marketplace ministry, rural/urban development, microeconomics, and Christian attitudes toward money and consumerism. However, neither the macroeconomic circumstances in which the church does such ministry nor the assumptions that believers have absorbed from the larger economy have been adequately explored.
Christian Mission and Economic Systems gathers scholars, experts, and practitioners to address the relationship of Christians to the economic systems in which they are embedded and do ministry, and to evaluate the different cultural and religious dimensions of both micro- and macroeconomic systems around the world from a kingdom perspective.
Practitioners doing business as mission will grow in their understanding of the significance of local economic practices. Students and academics will benefit from the critical assessment of the intersection between micro- and macroeconomic systems in the contexts of specific ethnographic circumstances. Missionaries and churches will glean new insights on the difference that being a Christian makes to economic life. NGOs, nonprofits, or other Christian organizations doing work related to markets will benefit from a challenge to their previous understandings. Since work for the kingdom always takes place in some kind of an economic environment, this book will equip Christians in a variety of capacities to be more effective in their ministries.

In Search Of Promised Lands
$69.99The wide-ranging story of Mennonite migration, theological diversity, and interaction with other Christian streams is distilled in this engaging volume, which tracks the history of Ontario Mennonites.
Author Samuel J. Steiner writes that Ontario Mennonites and Amish are among the most diverse in the world-in their historical migrations and cultural roots, in their theological responses to the world around them, and in the various ways they have pursued their personal and communal salvation.
In Search of Promised Lands describes the emergence and evolution of today’s thirty-plus streams of Ontarians who have identified themselves as Mennonite or Amish from their arrival in Canada to the last decade. In Search of Promised Lands also considers how various Mennonite groups have adapted to or resisted evangelical fundamentalism and mainline Protestantism, and it identifies the nineteenth- and twentieth-century shifts toward personal salvation and away from submission to the church community.

Interpreting the Prophets equips the reader with the knowledge and skills they need to interpret the Prophets in a faithful and accurate fashion. Beginning with the nature of the prophetic role and prophetic books in Israel, Old Testament scholar Aaron Chalmers leads the reader through the various “worlds” of Israel’s prophets-historical, social, theological and rhetorical- providing the basic contextual and background information needed both for sound and sensible exegesis, and for sensitive interpretation and application for today. He concludes with a helpful chapter giving guidelines for preaching from the Prophets-including advice on choosing the texts, making appropriate analogies, and the potential problems and common pitfalls to avoid.

Practices Of The Self And Spiritual Practices
$28.99In this book Sergey Horujy undertakes a novel comparative analysis of Foucault’s theory of practices of the self and the Eastern Orthodox ascetical tradition of Hesychasm, revealing great affinity between these two radical subject-less approaches to anthropology. As he facilitates the dialogue between the two, he offers both an original treatment of ascetical and mystical practices and an up-to-date interpretation of Foucault that goes against the grain of mainstream scholarship. In the second half of the book Horujy transitions from the dialogue with Foucault to his own work of Christian philosophy, rooted in — but not limited to — the Eastern Christian philosophical and theological tradition. Horujy’s thinking exemplifies the postsecular nature of our contemporary period and serves as a powerful invitation to think beyond religious-secular divides in philosophy and Eastern-Western divides in intellectual history.”

Creation And Humanity
$48.99This third volume of Veli-Matti Karkkainen’s ambitious five volume theology project develops a Christian theology of creation and humanity (theological anthropology) in dialogue with the Christian tradition, with contemporary theology in all its global and contextual diversity, and with other major living faiths – Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism.
In constructing his theology of creation and humanity, Karkkainen uniquely engages the natural sciences, including physical, cosmological, and neuroscientific theories. He devotes particular attention to the topics of divine action in a world subjected to scientific study, environmental pollution, human flourishing, and the theological implications of evolutionary theory – with regard to both cosmos and humanity.

Job
$50.99In this commentary Lindsay Wilson shows the book of Job to be a coherent literary work that addresses this question: Is it possible for humans to have genuine faith in God regardless of their circumstances? Wilson argues that Job’s bold, sometimes questioning cries to God are portrayed as legitimate expressions of trust for a righteous person in adversity.
Through critical exegesis of the text, Wilson focuses on the message of Job and its implications for practical ministry, examining such key issues as suffering, justice, lament, and faith. He also touches on various pertinent topics in Christian ethics, including individual character, wealth, suicide, and the environment. In a final section Wilson offers guidance on using Job as a resource book for pastoral care and prayer, and he discusses how to teach and preach from the book of Job.

From Good To Grace (Reprinted)
$21.25Many women feel as if they do not do enough and are not enough. They’re always trying hard to be good: a good friend, mom, wife, Christian, employee, or ministry leader, hoping for that “atta-girl” from God. With compelling illustrations from her own life, Christine Hoover leads readers to the understanding that they’re living by a lesser gospel, the gospel of goodness, one without Christ’s grace. Relying on Scripture, they can start asking, “What does God want for me?” before asking, “What does God want from me?” Women will breath a sigh of relief at this powerful message of freedom and hope. Rather than serving God out of obligation or duty, they’ll be compelled to love and serve God with great joy.

Sand In My Sandwich
$18.73You know that thing when you’re in Walmart at noon before you discover you haven’t brushed your teeth? Sarah Parshall Perry gets that. She also gets weird things showing up in her bed, her daughter asking for war paint, and her son crawling into a giant blue sock on Christmas morning. Mainly, she gets that conflicted feeling of finding her kids hanging out in the dogs’ cages and happily realizing they have stopped getting into trouble for a minute.
According to Perry, “The hardest stuff is the quickest way to God,” and readers get to watch the systematic destruction of her carefully planned life, laughing at her missteps, aching at her tragedies, and recognizing themselves along the way. A mother of three children, two of whom are on the autism spectrum, she has experienced plenty of ups and downs, but from the chaos of her “ordinary” life she pulls the universal truths of motherhood, addressing them with humor, poignancy, and a naked honesty that will make the reader think, That sounds a lot like my crazy life. Perry helps mothers realize they aren’t alone, even if they’ve fallen off the straight and narrow of their intended path and are instead lying in the ditch next to it. Life’s a mess. But as Perry reminds us, it’s all for a purpose.
Perfect for mothers, this book will encourage, inspire, and enlighten.

More Than Just The Talk (Reprinted)
$18.82In a sex-saturated culture where kids are exposed to nearly 14,000 sexual references per year on television, and 70 percent of teenagers have encountered pornography on the Internet, parents can’t rely on the traditional one-time “sex talk” that their own parents muddled through. Kids need to know that it’s natural to be curious about sex and that their parents are the most reliable source of information. Otherwise, their friends and smartphones will be more than willing to give answers that are likely to lead them down the path to sin and heartache.
Jonathan McKee shows parents how to move beyond the initial awkwardness of this subject into an ongoing conversation with their kids about God’s amazing gift of sex. He equips them to engage in open conversations about dating, temptation, porn, and purity. Parents will find answers to the tough questions most people avoid and relevant Scripture regarding sexual issues. When parents provide the honest answers their kids are longing for, they can become the ones their kids turn to with their questions about this critical topic.

Mother And Child Project
$18.99Dozens of influential leaders have heard the pleas of mothers and children in developing countries. Raising their voices to inspire a movement to increase healthy pregnancies and lower death rates, Melinda Gates, Kay Warren, Bill Frist, Kimberly Williams Paisley, Michael W. Smith and more speak out about why people of faith must get involved in The Mother and Child Project: Raising Our Voices for Health and Hope. Almost 287,000 women die each year because of pregnancy and birth complications. Many orphans are left behind in the wake of this tragedy, and without a mother, many of those children die as well. If only enough people knew.
We have the resources to prevent this crisis, but we must take action. Fortunately, Hope Through Healing Hands, a nonprofit organization promoting awareness for healthy mothers and children worldwide, is already spreading the word. Not only can we save lives, reduce abortions, and decrease death rates, but also we can help build healthier, thriving families and bring stability and sustainability to families, communities and nations. The question is, will you join them?

Youll Get Through This
$19.99You’ll get through this.
It won’t be painless.
It won’t be quick.
But God will use this mess for good.
Don’t be foolish or naive.
But don’t despair either.
With God’s help, you’ll get through this.
You fear you won’t make it through. We all do. We fear that the depression will never lift, the yelling will never stop, the pain will never leave. In the pits, surrounded by steep walls and aching reminders, we wonder: Will this gray sky ever brighten? This load ever lighten?
In You’ll Get Through This, pastor and New York Times best-selling author, Max Lucado offers sweet assurance. “Deliverance is to the Bible what jazz music is to Mardi Gras: bold, brassy, and everywhere.” Max reminds readers God doesn’t promise that getting through trials will be quick or painless. It wasn’t for Joseph–tossed in a pit by his brothers, sold into slavery, wrongfully imprisoned, forgotten and dismissed–but his Old Testament story is in the Bible for this reason: to teach us to trust God to trump evil.
With the compassion of a pastor, the heart of a storyteller, and the joy of one who has seen what God can do, Max explores the story of Joseph and the truth of Genesis 50:20. What Satan intends for evil, God redeems for good.

Jesus Swagger : Break Free From Poser Christianity
$23.73Millennial pastor Jarrid Wilson calls his generation to drop the pretenses and poses of false Christianity and walk like true followers of Jesus.
It’s easy to live in America as a poser Christian, to keep up appearances while remaining unchanged by the gospel. But in a world of constant conformity, God has called us to be different (Romans 12:2) and set apart (Jeremiah 1:5), walking with a genuine Jesus Swagger. None of us does that perfectly, but all of us can do it better.
Jesus Swagger is about giving younger Christians the perspective necessary to see how they’re doing. Chapter by chapter, Jesus Swagger exposes a piece of our false self and bogus motivations so we can become real followers. If we take that journey, we will find a deeper relationship with God-one that changes the world around us. Real Jesus Swagger is contagious. It’s about being who God has called us to be, and not who the world is tempting us to be.

Joy In Luke-Acts
$43.73This monograph explores the joy theme in Luke- Acts as it relates to the dynamics of rhetoric, narrative and emotion. The Gospel of Luke has been called the “gospel of joy,” and the joy theme has also been recognised in Acts. This theme, though, has received relatively little attention in NT scholarship. Joy in Luke-Acts examines the joy theme from a socio-rhetorical vantage point, showing that the joy theme empowers the Lukan rhetoric of reversal. The theme is a primary method in which the narrator seeks to persuade the reader to enter into the values and beliefs that characterise the ‘upside-down’ world in which YHWH has visited his people in Jesus.

Beloved Community : Critical Dogmatics After Christendom
$78.99In this scholarly work Paul Hinlicky transcends the impasse between dogmatic and systematic theology by articulating and arguing a single cognitive claim: God is the One who has determined to redeem the creation by the missions of his Son and Spirit.
Deploying an unusual Spirit-Son-Father trinitarian scheme, Hinlicky treats the problem of the knowledge of God and the nature of the theological discipline, and he proceeds to carefully develop his system of theology through expansive, wideranging argumentation. Each main part of his work includes discussion of the ecumenical convergences in doctrine gained over the last generation and exploration of interreligious dialogues, especially with Judaism and Islam. Throughout the book, Hinlicky engages with other theologians – particularly with Robert Jenson’s Systematic Theology – and concludes each major section with a discussion of an alternate perspective on the subject.

Story Luke Tells
$19.99Among New Testament writers, who is the best historian? Without a doubt, says Justo Gonzalez, it’s Luke. Concerned about the particulars of people and events, Luke also gives readers the big picture, positioning the stories of Jesus not just in the history of Israel but in the history of humankind. Luke uniquely tells us the grand story of salvation – then and now.
Gonzalez skillfully highlights key themes in Luke’s storytelling, including his strong emphasis on God’s “great reversals,” his keen interest in shared meals and their intimate connection to worship and communion, and his passionate underscoring of both the saving work of Christ and the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. Writing in a conversational style, Gonzalez draws readers into Luke’s story with fresh overviews and rich details, showing how Luke invites us to continue his gospel witness today.

Prepare : Living Your Faith In An Increasingly Hostile Culture
$14.99Much like a person who has awaked from a decades-long coma to be introduced to a radically different world, evangelicals are just awakening to the reality that they have lost the culture war in this country.
We are seeing the rapid deterioration and dismantling of a Judean-Christian culture in America – and believers are finding themselves in unfamiliar positions. Values once held sacred are being discarded. Freedoms once offered are being withheld. Biblical absolutes once embraced are being replaced by relativism. Trend lines, unless altered, point to accelerated cultural change and even greater drift from the historic roots of this country.
As a result, there is a growing intolerance towards believers and their message. Increasingly, followers of Jesus are being viewed as narrow, bigoted and hateful.
Yet all of this was predicted by Christ before His departure. Prepare: Living Your Faith in an Increasingly Hostile Culture will set forth a biblical, theological, and practical approach to navigating the challenging days ahead and a reason for hope and optimism – the power of the Gospel and the possibility of societal transformation.

Just as the Old Testament book of Genesis begins with creation, where humans live in the presence of their Lord, so the New Testament book of Revelation ends with an even more glorious new creation where all of the redeemed dwell with the Lord and his Christ. The historical development between the beginning and the end is crucial, for the journey from Eden to the new Jerusalem proceeds through the land promised to Abraham. The Promised Land is the place where God’s people will once again live under his lordship and experience his blessed presence.
In this stimulating study from the New Studies in Biblical Theology series, Oren Martin demonstrates how, within the redemptive-historical framework of God’s unfolding plan, the land promise advances the place of the kingdom that was lost in Eden. This promise also serves as a type throughout Israel’s history that anticipates the even greater land, prepared for all of God’s people, that will result from the person and work of Christ and that will be enjoyed in the new creation for eternity.
Addressing key issues in biblical theology, the works comprising New Studies in Biblical Theology are creative attempts to help Christians better understand their Bibles. The NSBT series is edited by D. A. Carson, aiming to simultaneously instruct and to edify, to interact with current scholarship and to point the way ahead.

Matthew : A Theological Commentary On The Bible
$52.00One of the most beloved books of the New Testament, the Gospel of Matthew speaks with eloquence and power. Among the Gospels, Matthew paints a fuller picture of the life, ministry, and teachings of Jesus. Anna Case-Winters’s incisive commentary reveals that Matthew is clearly a theological book. It is about God’s saving work in Jesus Christ. Moreover, it is presented in a way that easily lends itself to the task of teaching and preaching. Case-Winters highlights five themes that shape the distinctive portrait of Jesus this Gospel offers. Here we see Jesus facing up to conflict and controversy, ministering at the margins, overturning presuppositions about insiders and outsiders, privileging the powerless, demonstrating the authority of ethical leadership, challenging allegiance to empire, and pointing the way to a wider divine embrace than many dared imagine. Case-Winters captures the core of Matthew’s unique Gospel, which speaks powerfully to the life of Christian faith today in the midst of our own issues and struggles.

Nonviolent Action : What Christian Ethics Demands But Most Christians Have
$28.75There are numerous examples throughout history of effective nonviolent action. Nonviolent protesters defied the Soviet Empire’s communist rulers, Gandhi’s nonviolent revolution defeated the British Empire, and Martin Luther King Jr.’s peaceful civil-rights crusade changed American history. Recent scholarship shows that nonviolent revolutions against injustice and dictatorship are actually more successful than violent campaigns. In this book, noted theologian and bestselling author Ron Sider argues that the search for peaceful alternatives to violence is not only a practical necessity in the wake of the twentieth century–the most bloody in human history–but also a moral demand of the Christian faith. He presents compelling examples of how nonviolent action has been practiced in history and in current social-political situations to promote peace and oppose injustice, showing that this path is a successful and viable alternative to violence.

Characters Of The Bible
$33.26As we study the Bible, we may believe we are far removed from the people described on those pages. After all, many played significant roles in helping Jesus spread the gospel. Most of us find it difficult-if not impossible-to picture ourselves in that disciple-type role because we are sinful and don’t always make the wisest decisions. In Characters of the Bible: Finding My Stories in Their Stories, author David Waddell shares his discovery of his similarity to characters in the Bible. He found a relationship with the woman in John 8:1-11. He saw himself in a crowd of Pharisees urging punishment of a woman who did something they had done or wanted to do. Waddell was the woman looking for love in all the wrong places. He was the woman at the mercy of Jesus who was forgiven of all her sins without defending herself. Waddell realized the connection he had with biblical characters because like him, and like us, they were sinful. And if we’re truthful with ourselves, we can be mean, deceitful, conniving, and abusing, just like many people described in the Bible. Yet God used them for His purposes, and He will use us if we let Him. In Characters in the Bible: Finding My Stories in Their Stories, we can find comfort in knowing we are just as flawed, goofy, wrong, and misdirected as these biblical characters. It is through the lives of these people that we can see so much of ourselves.

Gospel On The Margins
$81.66Scholars of the Gospel of Mark usually discuss the merits of patristic references to the Gospel’s origin and Mark’s identity as the “interpreter” of Peter. But while the question of the Gospel’s historical origins draws attention, no one has asked why, despite virtually unanimous patristic association of the Gospel with Peter, one of the most prestigious apostolic founding figures in Christian memory, Mark’s Gospel was mostly neglected by those same writers. Not only is the text of Mark the least represented of the canonical Gospels in patristic citations, commentaries, and manuscripts, but the explicit comments about the Evangelist reveal ambivalence about Mark’s literary or theological value. Michael J. Kok surveys the second-century reception of Mark, from Papias of Hierapolis to Clement of Alexandria, and finds that the patristic writers were hesitant to embrace Mark because they perceived it to be too easily adapted to rival Christian factions. Kok describes the story of Mark’s Petrine origins as a second-century move to assert ownership of the Gospel on the part of the emerging Orthodox Church.

Cleansed Lepers Cleansed Hearts
$81.66Illnesses are perceived and understood differently across cultures and over time. Traditional interpretations of New Testament texts frame the affliction lepra (“leprosy”) as addressed either by ritual cleansing or miraculous healing. But as Pamela Shellberg shows, these interpretations are limited because they shift modern ideas of “leprosy” to a first-century context without regard for how the ancients themselves thought about lepra. Reading ancient medical texts, Shellberg describes how Luke might have perceived lepra and used the language of “clean” and “unclean” and demonstrates how Luke’s first-century understandings shaped his report of Peter’s dream in Acts 10 as a warrant for Gentile inclusion.
For Luke, “cleansing” was how the favor of God announced by Isaiah was extended to Gentiles, and the stories of Jesus’ cleansing of leprous bodies in the Gospel are the pattern for the divine cleansing of Gentile hearts in Acts. Shellberg illuminates Luke’s understanding of “cleansing” as one of his primary expressions of the means of God’s salvation and favor, breaking down and breaking through the distinctions between Jew and Gentile. Shellberg’s conclusions take up the value of Luke’s emphasis on the divine prerogative to declare things “clean” for discussions of inclusion and social distinction today.

Lessons Learned In The Lions Den
$17.63Lessons Learned in the Lion’s Den shares the journey of one missionary family as the father is detained in a predominantly Muslim country in Africa. Daniel Waheli’s time spent in prison is ripe for building intimacy with the Lord in the midst of confusion, suffering, and uncertainty. The accounts of his wife and two young children offer a glimpse into the inner life of the family during this trying time. The heart of this story is not a man imprisoned, but a family united-in hope, love, and a pressing desire that God be glorified in all things. In a world where mission strategies come and go and often fall short of being effective, Waheli distills his experience into twelve principles for building character to better serve the Lord and persevere in His call. Whether you are a pioneer among unreached people groups or simply a Christian hungry to see Jesus glorified in your daily life, these tried and true concepts will prepare you to endure in the face of hardship.

Reclaiming Pietism : Retrieving An Evangelical Tradition
$24.99The historical movement known as Pietism emphasized the response of faith and inward transformation as crucial aspects of conversion to Christ. Unfortunately, Pietism today is often equated with a “holier-than-thou” spiritual attitude, religious legalism, or withdrawal from involvement in society.
In this book Roger Olson and Christian Collins Winn argue that classical, historical Pietism is an influential stream in evangelical Christianity and that it must be recovered as a resource for evangelical renewal. They challenge misconceptions of Pietism by describing the origins, development, and main themes of the historical movement and the spiritual-theological ethos stemming from it. The book also explores Pietism’s influence on contemporary Christian theologians and spiritual leaders such as Richard Foster and Stanley Grenz.

Ruth
$25.99An expressly theological reading of the biblical book of Ruth
In this commentary James McKeown approaches the book of Ruth as part of the whole canon of Scripture, exploring not only the content of the book itself but also its relationship to other biblical books. He shows in particular how Ruth overflows with allusions to Genesis. The themes of “blessing,” “seed,” and “land” are common to both books, and studying Genesis and Ruth together provides profound insights into the providential working of God to fulfill the promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
In addition to his exegetical commentary on the text of Ruth, McKeown provides useful background material on how the book has been interpreted throughout history, including Jewish interpretation, and he focuses on Ruth’s theology and its application. His discussion also touches on such related topics as universalism, feminist studies, and the missiological significance of the book of Ruth.
McKeown’s insightful commentary will enable students, pastors, and laypeople to better understand the ancient book of Ruth so that they can better apply its message and wisdom today.

Inhale Comfort Exhale Hope
$16.18Death rarely comes with simple answers, for its arrival is always a bold reminder that we live in an imperfect world. Yet there is hope found in the Savior, and in his promise we can be certain that the limitations of this world cannot shackle the power of God.
In the ten funeral homilies of Inhale Comfort, Exhale Hope! Mark Powell exposes the secrets of a broken world, reminding us that in the midst of the mess and the chaos, God’s presence delivers a redeeming hope. Powell doesn’t believe that the funeral homily should ever be an attempt to lecture or evangelize; rather, he asserts it’s a time to remind the brokenhearted to rely on solid scriptural truths found in the words of Jesus:
We will not be left orphaned. Death has no victory. We will be with the Lord forever.
The homilies in this volume will aid the pastor in preparation of funerals for:
* an unexpected death
* an elderly Christian
* the death of someone unknown to the pastor
* a suicide
* a child

Mission Drift : The Unspoken Crisis Facing Leaders Charities And Churches (Repri
$18.99Is your organization in danger of Mission Drift?Without careful attention, faith-based organizations drift from their founding mission. It’s that simple. It will happen. Slowly, silently, and with little fanfare, organizations routinely drift from their purpose, and many never return to their original intent. Harvard and the YMCA are among those that no longer embrace the Christian principles on which they were founded. But they didn’t drift off course overnight. Drift often happens in small and subtle ways. Left unchecked, it eventually becomes significant. Yet Mission Drift is not inevitable. Organizations such as Compassion International and InterVarsity have exhibited intentional, long-term commitment to Christ. Why do so many organizations–including churches–wander from their mission, while others remain Mission True? Can drift be prevented? In Mission Drift, HOPE International executives Peter Greer and Chris Horst tackle these questions. They show how to determine whether your organization is in danger of drift, and they share the results of their research into Mission True and Mission Untrue organizations. Even if your organization is Mission True now, it’s wise to look for ways to inoculate yourself against drift. You’ll discover what you can do to prevent drift or get back on track and how to protect what matters most.
