I Factor : How Building A Great Relationship With Yourself Is The Key To A
$16.99Pastor Van Moody, author of The People Factor, rips the veil of secrecy from people’s deepest and most intimate struggle-the one with themselves-and sets readers on the road to personal wholeness, security, and success. The fundamental question behind every struggle we face is this: How do I deal with myself? Van Moody calls this “the I-Factor,” the combination of dynamics that converge to form the totality of a person’s relationship with him- or herself. More than self-worth or self-respect, beyond character and perception of purpose, the I-Factor is about managing yourself-your whole life-well. And in this inspiring new book, Moody reveals how to get hold of the I-Factor. To win the battle with the I-Factor, a person must have a proper understanding of three dynamics: identity, significance, and perspective. When you understand your identity you know who you are, which is the foundation of everything. When you understand your significance, you get in touch with the purpose and the greatness for which you were created. And when you understand perspective, you can view the problems you face as stepping-stones to greatness instead of stumbling blocks. Weaving together personal stories, practical principles, and profound biblical truth, The I Factor provides readers with the key to achieving the life of greatness that they are destined for.

Worship Pastor : A Call To Ministry For Worship Leaders And Teams
$24.99Modern worship leaders are restless. They have inherited a model of leadership that equates leading worship with being a rock star. But leading worship is more than a performance, it’s about shaping souls and making disciples. Every worship leader is really a pastor.
The Worship Pastor is a practical and biblical introduction to this essential pastoral role. Filled with engaging, illustrative stories it is organized to address questions of theory and practice, striving to balance conversational accessibility with informed instruction.
*Part One presents a series of evocative “vignettes”–intriguing and descriptive titles and metaphors of who a Worship Pastor is and what he or she does. It shows the Worship Pastor as Church-Lover, Disciple Maker, Corporate Mystic, and Doxological Philosopher. *Part Two covers specific roles related to ministry within the worship service itself–the Worship Pastor as Theological Dietician, Caregiver, Mortician, Emotional Shepherd, War General, Prophetic Guardian, Missional Historian, and Liturgical Architect.
*Part Three looks at ministry beyond the worship service–the Worship Pastor as Visionary Teacher, Evangelist, Artist Chaplain, and Team Leader. While some worship leaders are eager to embrace their pastoral role, many are lost and confused or lack the resources of time or money to figure out what this role looks like. Pastor Zac Hicks gives us a clear guide to leading worship, one that takes the pastoral call seriously.

When God Isnt There
$19.99Renowned spoken word artist David Bowden tackles one of the most difficult questions of all-Where is God when we can’t find him? – and reveals what God’s absence and his presence tell us about God’s glory and his grace.
The Bible is full of stories of God removing his presence, of believers lamenting his absence, even of the omnipresent Creator refusing to listen to prayers or attend worship services. But Christians often fail to take notice of these passages, thoughtlessly continuing their usual religious practices without ever wondering: What if we showed up to church but God didn’t? Would anyone even notice?
When God Isn’t There tackles these questions head-on, providing a wake-up call to those who take God’s presence for granted and a resource of encouragement to those who struggle with feeling God’s absence. After all, if God is infinitely far from us and is free to move wherever he wants, how much more astounding is it that God came near in the person of Jesus? This book will forever change contemporary Christianity’s understanding of why God sometimes seems to vanish and how he can be found again.

Open : Get Ready For The Adventure Of A Lifetime
$15.99You’ve accepted the invitation. Are you ready to take the next step?
From the New York Times bestselling author of Dinner with a Perfect Stranger, Open will forever change the way you think about faith.
It wasn’t the end of the world. It was just the end of Emma Jameson’s world. Fresh off the heels of a devastating breakup and floundering in her career, Emma is struggling to come to grips with why God allows so much pain in our lives, why He seems so absent when she needs Him most, and why the Gospel accounts-our supposed guide for how to lead a contented Christian life-feel so completely irrelevant.
Then one day, a mysterious envelope arrives in Emma’s mailbox with the word Open written on the outside. Inside the envelope is a card bearing the following message: “For a real adventure with Jesus, go through the nearest open door.”
Skeptical, but having absolutely nothing to lose, Emma steps through the pantry door, only to find herself instantly transported back to the first century, where she is taken on a personal tour of various Gospel accounts by none other than Jesus himself-an experience that radically challenges Emma’s perception of the Gospels and what it really means to be a Christian.

Pickled Priest And The Perishing Parish
$11.95Just as baby boomers comprise the largest generation in America’s history, they also represent the largest percentage of current senior pastors in American churches. Boomer pastors all over the country are struggling to transition from their roots in twentieth-century church culture to ministry and leadership in our challenging twenty-first century–and this transition must take place for traditional churches to be a relevant factor in world redemption.
In The Pickled Priest and the Perishing Parish: Boomer Pastors Bouncing Back, Senior Pastor Hal West, himself a baby boomer, offers essential insights and words of inspiration for pastors, leaders, and Christians who desire to see renewal and transformation in their churches, in America, and in themselves.
The challenges facing traditional churches and the boomer pastors who lead them are many– not the least of which are pastors’ ensconced perspective of their own spiritual formation, theological training, and experience. In his unique, conversational, and at times humorous tone, Pastor Hal West first offers proof through his own -pickled- perspective and then explores, with help from the lessons of biblical prophets like Isaiah and Nehemiah, how boomer pastors can and must bounce back.
Change is challenging, but in our day of cultural conflict, political corruption, and spiritual crisis, change is imperative. It falls to church leaders, regardless of their decades of experience in ministry and leadership, to approach transformation with an open mind and provide guidance, vision, and restoration to their churches and the souls they serve.Add to cartin stock within 3-5 days of online purchase

New Believers Guide To The Christian Life
$15.29What Life as a Christian Really Looks Like New believers need to know what to expect. While many books cover the nuts and bolts of new faith–how to read the Bible, how to pray, how to find a church–in this book, Alex Early focuses on issues of the heart. What are Christians supposed to feel? What happens when they sin? What does God want from them? Designed to challenge and reassure, this book gives a realistic depiction of the Christian life, and includes such topics as how to rest in God’s love, what forgiveness looks like when you blow it, what it means to find your identity in Christ, and how to pray with honesty and transparency. God isn’t surprised when we struggle, and although being in a relationship with God is amazing, he never promised that this life would be easy. He can handle “real” people, and he pours out his reckless love regardless of what we do or think on any given day. We all need to be reminded of this, but especially those new to the faith. This book is ideal for new believers, but seasoned Christians should also have copies on hand to give away. Includes end-of-chapter questions and a “Christianese to English” glossary.

Two voices, fourteen sermons…The lives of David and Marian Plant have been intertwined for 46 years, their mutual ministries, for even longer. Their voices were shaped by their ministry experiences that began together in shared, co-pastorate positions, and then matured into individual settled ministry positions and then again, moved into their own specialties of the last 20 years: Marian, in the teaching ministry and David in the interim and church revitalization ministry. Marian’s voice is one practiced well from a traditional setting of pulpit with written text in hand. David’s voice is one practiced in a relational style of informal conversation, often done without notes, and in back and forth dialogue with the gathered worshipers.
Their latest work, Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! provides fourteen cycle A gospel sermons for Lent/Easter. In these sermons you will see the mix of the lives of the Plants, committed to social justice, the important context of the role of the church as that which speaks for Christ, and the importance of the need for individuals to take up the challenge of living their faith more fully. There is no doubt that their mutual passions for addressing the ills befalling our culture and our world were foremost on their minds, and they could not but help influence one another’s work by virtue of their lives lived in the practice of ministry and marriage. They offer these words to you, as colleagues in ministry, even if only a sentence is valuable to you.

Grace And Peace Cycle A

Experiencing The Love Of God (Student/Study Guide)
$14.99Most of us live our lives at a breakneck pace. We spend our days working at our jobs, taking care of our families, and serving others in our lives. All of this effort can, at times, leave us feeling overworked, overextended, and-if we are really honest with ourselves-underappreciated. It’s during these times that we especially need to experience the love of God. This is a tender sort of love that can thaw our hearts, cheer our dispositions, and remind us what this life is really about. Yet it is also a tough sort of love in that it calls us to examine ourselves and lead the kind of lives that God wants us to lead. In this study, readers will look at key passages in the Bible that speak about this kind of love, how they can get it from the Source, and what it calls them to do. They will also discover the precious nature of this love that God holds out to them and how they can receive with their whole hearts.

Following Gods Guidance (Student/Study Guide)
$14.99The Bible is filled with stories of people who took one action or another because they heard the voice of God. Noah heard God tell him to build an ark. Moses heard God say from a burning bush that he was to deliver the Israelites from Egypt. The shepherds were told to look for the promised Messiah lying in a manger. Today, we know that God was actually speaking to these people because we know the outcomes of their stories. But how do we know when God is actually speaking to us? How do we know what he wants us to do? In this study, readers will learn how to recognize the voice of God through his Word, through “quiet nudgings” in their spirit, and even through the wise counsel of others. They will also discover how God’s voice always calls them to know him more, to be obedient to him, to wait on his perfect timing, and to always have faith in him.

Prodigal Son Study Guide (Student/Study Guide)
$14.99Nearly two thousand years ago, Jesus told a simple parable about a father and his two sons. It was a story of rebellion, repentance, and unfathomable grace. This parable of the prodigal son stands out because it presents, in clear and inspiring terms, our struggle with sin, our need for repentance, and the Father’s inexhaustible mercy and love for us. Even those who know next to nothing else about the Bible know something about this tale. In this study, John MacArthur provides fascinating new insights into this parable and explores why so many of us recognize ourselves in its narrative. For believers, the prodigal son is a humbling reminder of who we are and how much we owe to God’s grace. For those who are conscious of their guilt but unrepentant, the prodigal’s life is a searing reminder of the wages of sin, the duty of the sinner to repent, and the goodness of God. For sinners coming to repentance, the father’s eager welcome and costly generosities are reminders that God’s grace and goodness are inexhaustible. For all of us, the elder brother’s attitude is a powerful warning that reveals how easily unbelief can masquerade as faithfulness. This five-session video-based study includes re-enacted vignettes from the parable with accompanying teaching from John MacArthur. With this study, experienced and new group leaders alike will be equipped to lead a life-changing study for their group members.

Building Your Strengths
$14.99God has given each of us gifts and abilities, but for some reason we often have trouble embracing this truth. Many of us-if not most of us-underestimate our value and buy into the lie that we are not smart enough, or strong enough, or good enough to accomplish the task we have set out to do. Even if it is something we have accomplished before, we can still lose confidence at times that we are up to the task. In this study, readers will come to understand that the way to survive these moments of insecurity is to understand their true God-given gifts and strengths, rehearse God’s acts of faithfulness, and receive encouragement from others. Most of all, they will discover that true strength comes from leaning on God in all situations and using their gifts to shine his light and glory to the world around them.

Sons In The Son
$32.99Rarely addressed throughout church history, the doctrine of adoption has seen fresh attention in recent years. Although valuable, contemporary studies have focused primarily on etymological, cultural, and pastoral considerations, giving little to no attention to vital systematic theological concerns.
In this groundbreaking work, Professor David Garner examines the function of adoption in Pauline thought: its relationship to the doctrines of Christ, the Holy Spirit, eschatology, and union with Christ, as well as its primary place among the other benefits of salvation.
Adoption frames Pauline soteriology, Garner argues, and defines the Trinitarian, familial context of redemption in Christ, the Son of God. Properly understood, adoption’s paradigm-shifting implications extend deep and far.

Beyond The Abortion Wars
$23.99Now in paperback! A terribly timely take on the polarized abortion debate
The abortion debate in the United States is confused. Ratings-driven media coverage highlights extreme views and creates the illusion that we are stuck in a hopeless stalemate. In this book (published in hardcover in March 2015) Charles Camosy argues that our polarized public discourse hides the fact that most Americans actually agree on the major issues at stake in abortion morality and law.
Unpacking the complexity of the abortion issue, Camosy shows that placing oneself on either side of the typical polarizations – pro-life vs. pro-choice, liberal vs. conservative, Democrat vs. Republican – only serves to further confuse the debate and limits our ability to have fruitful dialogue. Camosy then proposes a new public policy that he believes is consistent with the beliefs of the broad majority of Americans and supported by the best ideas and arguments about abortion from both secular and religious sources.

$19.99If you want to know the temperature of your spiritual life, look at the thermostat setting on your prayer life.
Prayer is the most misunderstood and neglected aspect of the Christian life. It has been estimated that most Christians pray three to five minutes a day. Compare that to the time many spend complaining, and you’ll gain insight into the spiritual and emotional condition of our day.
Yet God has constructed the world in such a way that there is much He won’t do in a Christian’s life apart from prayer. Prayer, when combined with faith, can accomplish great things.
In this practical and comprehensive overview of prayer, Tony Evans covers a variety of topics, including:
Principles of productive prayer
The power of prayer and praise
Fasting and prayer
Prayer and God’s purposes
Tony’s expositions of various passages on prayer will help you realize its critical importance and encourage you to make it a dominant mark of your life.Add to cartIn stock

Self Examination : What You Will Never Know About Your Physician
$38.60Dr. Tom Arno will tell you without reservation that Marcus Welby is an inaccurate portrayal of the American physician’s demeanor–grossly inaccurate.
Understandably, in the sixties, we wanted to think doctors were calm and self-assured, but Welby never showed himself emotionally. He was milquetoast-toast, a shoe salesman wearing a white coat. Ben Casey was considerably more believable if only because Vince Edwards, who played the title role, was intense and brooding, lending him an air of professional pique and borderline arrogance.
Truth be told, ole Ben’s character is pretty close to the real thing with internship and residency when competition fierce and everyone’s jockeying for position with the higher-ups. Come to think of it, maybe Ben was cranky from fatigue, an occupational hazard, especially during training years.
That is the truth, and I know because I lived through it. The American people need to be informed about the reality of medical school and beyond and how doctors are affected spiritually and physically, personally, and professionally. No one sails through it unscathed; no one is immune.

End Of Theology
$65.0014 Chapters
Additional Info
Missiologists and theologians do not often talk to each other, which has resulted in increased ignorance of each other’s questions and concerns about how to do theology in ways that effectively serve the Church’s mission. Under the auspices of the Tyndale Fellowship Christian Doctrine study group, a colloquium of distinguished scholars and practitioners recently gathered at the University of Cambridge. This volume, arising out of that symposium, begins hard conversations that have been waiting to happen. Each participant brings a particular perspective to questions about the nature of theology and how it is most meaningfully constructed so as to offer a truly interdisciplinary perspective on theology and mission. It highlights perspectives of contextual theology and systematic theology, as well as missiology and mission studies, world Christianity and historical inquiry, biblical studies and missional hermeneutics, ethnography, pastoral practice, and social justice. It also pays keen attention to matters on the ground with a profound desire to relate questions of evangelical identity – including ministry practice and mission – to the wider tradition. In short this volume sets out to model the kind of engagement required by both Church and Academy to do theology for mission.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer And The Ethical Self

2. Bonhoeffer And The Responsibly Oriented Self
3. Bound To The Other: Bonhoeffer And Levinas In Conversation
4. Weil’s “Attention” And The Other-Oriented Self
5. Adolf Eichmann As Personification Of Irresponsibility
Works CitedAdditional Info
Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s work has persistently challenged Christian consciousness due to both his death at the hands of the Nazis and his provocative prison musings about Christian faithfulness in late modernity. Although understandable given the popularity of both narrative trajectories, such selective focus obscures the depth and fecundity of his overall corpus. Bonhoeffer’s early work, and particularly his Christocentric anthropology, grounds his later commitments to responsibility and faithfulness in a “world come of age.” While much debate accompanies claims regarding the continuity of Bonhoeffer’s thought, there are central motifs that pervade his work from his doctoral dissertation to the prison writings. This book suggests that a concern for otherness permeates all of Bonhoeffer’s work. Furthermore, Clark Elliston articulates, drawing on Bonhoeffer, a constructive vision of Christian selfhood defined by its orientation towards otherness. Taking Bonhoeffer as both the origin and point of return, the text engages Emmanuel Levinas and Simone Weil as dialogue partners who likewise stress the role of the other for self-understanding, albeit in diverse ways. By reading Bonhoeffer “through” their voices, one enhances Bonhoeffer’s already fertile understanding of responsibility.

Meeting God In Scripture
$23.99Do you struggle to connect with God in Scripture? It’s easy to get bogged down in the linguistic, cultural and historical details and to lose sight of the whole point: hearing the voice of Jesus speaking to us here and now. Lectio divina is a traditional Benedictine practice of Scripture reading that treats the Bible not as a text to be dissected, but as the living Word of God spoken anew to us. Experienced Bible teacher Jan Johnson has led lectio divina workshops for many years. Here she presents forty scriptural meditations, organized topically, with a view toward giving us the tools we need to practice lectio divina on our own. Each meditation can be used both individually or in group settings, and includes an introductory space of silence to help us relax and refocus, along with an optional preparatory question or exercise; the full text of a passage from Scripture with explanations of unusual or important words, and with cultural and historical background as needed; questions and cues to help us enter the text (and in narrative passages, prompts to help us vividly imagine how the action would have unfolded); space to contemplate the passage and to respond to God in prayer; space to simply rest in what God has said to us; and an exercise to “try on” one of the main ideas of the passage in our daily lives. Meeting God in Scripture moves us beyond merely understanding what the text meant in its original context to a direct spiritual encounter with Christ as he speaks to us in each passage. The method of Scripture reading modeled here offers to revitalize our understanding of Scripture permanently-even long after we’ve finished these particular meditations.

These aren’t bad things, of course. But they’re safe and comfortable and easy. Faith At Home
$25.95Home (not the congregation) and parents (not clergy, youth ministers, or Sunday School) are the key mechanisms by which religious faith and practice are transmitted intergenerationally. Recent studies indicate that the single most important factor in youth becoming committed and engaged in their religious faith as young adults is that the family talks about religion at home. However, for many parents in the United States, religious language is a foreign language. Faith at Home will help parents learn this “second language” and introduce it to their children in simple, meaningful, concrete ways. Parents often ask: How do we introduce prayer to our children if we do not necessarily believe prayer changes outcomes? How do we approach reading the Bible with our children when our own relationship with it is mixed or complicated? How do we talk about difficult things and where do we find God in the midst of them? How do we teach our children to make a difference in the world? How do we connect what happens at church to what happens at home? These questions and many more are addressed with talking points, practices, and resources provided for each subject.

Conceiving Parenthood : American Protestantism And The Spirit Of Reproducti
$42.99Genetic manipulation. Designer babies. Prenatal screening. The genomic revolution. Cutting-edge issues in reproductive bioethics grab our attention almost daily, prompting strong responses from various sides. As science advances and comes ever closer to “perfect” procreation and “perfectible” babies, controversy has become a constant in bioethical discussion.
Amy Laura Hall seeks out the genesis of such issues rather than trying to divine their future. Her disturbing finding is that mainline Protestantism is complicit in the history and development of reproductive biotechnology. Through analysis of nearly 150 images of the family in the mainstream media in the twentieth century, Hall argues that, by downplaying the gratuity of grace, middle-class Protestants, with American culture at large, have implicitly endorsed the idea of justification through responsibly planned procreation. A tradition that should have welcomed all persons equally has instead fostered a culture of “carefully delineated, racially encoded domesticity.”
The research in Conceiving Parenthood is new, the theory provocative, and the illustrations exceptional. The book is replete with photos and advertisements from popular magazines from the 1930s through the 1950s– Parents’, Ladies’ Home Journal, National Geographic, and so on. Hall’s analysis of these ads is startling. Her goal, however, is not simply to startle readers but to encourage new conversations within communities of faith&mdashconversations enabling individuals, couples, congregations, even entire neighborhoods to conceive of parenthood in ways that make room for families and children who are deemed to be outside the proper purview of the right sorts of families.
