  • Coals Of Fire

    $9.99

Preacher Peter is wakened by strange noises on the roof. To his dismay he finds there are young men destroying his hatch. As a Mennonite minister he believes in the way of peace, so instead of calling the authorities or shouting threats, Peter and his wife invite the young men in for a midnight meal. Their act of kindness brings unexpected results.

Peter is not alone in this collection of true stories. Each tells of returning love for hate, good for evil. Written for elementary age children (but of interest to teens and adults), Elizabeth H. Bauman shares 17 true stories of men and women from various times and countries who showed the universal power of Christian love

  • Always A Brother

    $32.99

Who is Johnny Amund? He would describe himself as a frustrated man, a log-truck driver and mediocre employee. Mary Amund would explain it differently; the serious and purposeful young man she married has been dealt blows that are twisting him into a bitter recluse who doesn’t seem to care anymore.

An altercation at work gets Johnny’s attention and embarrassed, he evaluates his lifestyle and choices. Johnny realizes his life and marriage are worth saving and begins trying. Mary is ecstatic to see changes in her husband and is encouraged by her father to stick with the big trucker. When logging operations are shut-down during fire season, they take a trip and Johnny realizes what he has been taking for granted–a caring wife who has supported him through his pain and anger. Staggered by the sadness and loss his actions have caused, and how close he is to losing her, Johnny sets his mind to make things right.

The changes in Johnny are noticed and appreciated by his boss and coworkers and friendships grow. When a violent abduction of a newly hired trucker occurs, Johnny is surprised at how swiftly he moves from spectator to active participant, and the measure of trust he has recently earned propels him into new responsibility. Reflection on training he received as a child helps Johnny become the solid and caring person he used to be.

Unanswered questions abound regarding the abduction and through the busy winter, fear and uncertainty in the company give Johnny and Mary opportunity to share their growing strength with coworkers and in doing so, build rich friendships. At the same time, circumstances from Johnny’s past loom large. Mary helps him as he does his best to remember the positive and not obsess about the unknown. But when an unexpected and tragic message from the past arrives, Mary worries their newfound happiness will not survive.

Set in the beautiful Central Interior of British Columbia, this story revolves around an old Norse proverb and a young man with no blood family who reclaims his life and in doing so becomes the true brother he was expected to be.

  • Work Of The Holy Spirit

    $53.99

After three- quarters of a century, Dr. Abraham Kuyper’s exhaustive study of the work of the Holy Spirit — how available for the first time in a paperback edition — still stands undiminished as a comprehensive Protestant statement about a central but much-misunderstood part of the Christian faith.

“I have made an effort,” Dr. Kuyper writes in his preface, “to represent the work of the Holy Spirit in its organic relations, so that the reader may survey the entire domain. And in surveying, who is not surprised at the ever-widening dimensions of the work of the Holy Spirit in all the things that pertain to God and man?”

The 123 brief sections that make up this work first appeared in the Heraut, a Dutch religious weekly of which Dr. Kuyper served as editor. So it is that this profound exposition is lucidly written in the language of the ordinary people for whose spiritual growth he was deeply concerned.

  • Sharing Blessings

    $26.99

What is the spiritual message of each of the Jewish holidays?
How do we teach it to our children?
Many books tell children about the historical significance and customs of the holidays. Now, through engaging, creative stories about one family’s spiritual preparation, Sharing Blessings explores ways to get into the spirit of the holidays all year long.
Musleah, mother and journalist, and Klayman, father and rabbi, gently give our children the spiritual message and help adult and child explore it together. For 13 different holidays and festivals, there is a story about David, Ilana, and their mom and dadi 1/2a story focusing on the spiritual value embodied in each holiday.
Being afraid of the dark, taking a walk in the woods with Grandpa, arguments between David and Ilana, sharing family photos; all become opportunities for learning about how each holiday’s meaning is related to our daily life. Each story begins with a brief explanation of the holiday and concludes with a special prayer that child and adult can share to bring the spiritual meaning of the holiday into their own lives.

  • Descent Into Hell

    $24.99

The key to William’s mystically oriented theological thought, DESCENT INTO HELL (arguably Williams’s greatest novel) is a multidimensional story about human beings who shut themselves up in their own narcissistic projections, so that they are no longer able to love, to “co-inhere”. The result is a veritable hell.

    Additional Info
Christ of the Indian Road” is a first-person account of E. Stanley Jones’ experiences as a Christian missionary in India almost 100 years ago. He describes the journey that he undertook from a presumptuous young missionary hoping to bring meaning into the lives of lost pagans (my wording) to a seasoned veteran proclaimer of the joy found through following Christ, ultimately trying to contextualize Christ within a rich, religious Indian culture. Jones clearly communicates his disdain for the common mistake that many Christians make to assume that our cultural framework is the “Christian” one, trying to superimpose our culture on top of the culture of those to whom we bring Christ. As an alternative approach, Jones admonishes us to learn from other cultures, to respect the truth that can be found in them, and to allow Christ to enter into that culture on His terms and on their terms, not on our terms.
