Nimrod : Darkness In The Cradle Of Civilization
$21.99Add to cartThe Bible barely mentions his name, but people of antiquity knew him well. Ancient historians recorded substantial information about him. Who was Nimrod? How could such a man be of such importance to today’s believer? God’s history is replete with accounts of His followers suffering terrible persecution. People of today’s world are largely unaware of a lesser-known story, written by the blood of many believers at a time following God’s destruction of the Old World. Nimrod was born into a New World, recently recreated by God. This virgin creation was untainted by the wickedness of the Old World. However, innocence did not last long. Eight people had traveled God’s floodwaters of judgment in the security of His ark, but the curse of sin still tainted their souls. The prince of darkness wasted no time sowing seeds of rebellion in fertile hearts. He handpicked Nimrod to transform the New World into a cauldron of rebellion. The post-flood world began in present-day Iraq. Several cities conquered by Nimrod are still in existence today. The events happening in present-day Iraq are not coincidental. The world will witness more conflict and fulfilled Bible prophecy in this land-until God’s Seed returns to fulfill the ancient prophecy recorded in Genesis 3:15.

If we want to understand culture wars on the contemporary American scene, we must first come to grips with the American culture wars of the nineteenth century. That our nation did not remove slavery in a biblical way helps explain many of our contemporary social evils. But who is qualified to talk about such things? What is a biblical view of racism? Why do the biblical answers to such questions so infuriate the radical left and the radical right? This collection of essays lays out some of the answers from a view unashamed of historic biblical absolutism. -
To You And Your Children

Yet Christian parents today face a disturbing exodus of their children from the Church to the world. Why is this? What is the place of children within the faith? What do the promises mean? Recognizing that this subject is fraught with difficulty and grief, the twelve contributors to this volume seek to address the hard questions and lay a biblical foundation of hope for our children.

Dallas Brauninger probes these familiar texts with a fresh, imaginative viewpoint, revealing what they tell us about God and inviting further reflection on what they mean for modern living.

? What is the parable’s surprise?
? What moves us into hope?
? How does its point become obvious?
? How do its characters relate to us today?
Brauninger identifies points of action, examines significant terms, and engages in imaginary exchanges with a variety of characters. The complete text of each parable is also included, along with an analysis highlighting similarities and differences in parallel passages. And there’s a convenient “word study” index for locating key concepts from parables in all three lectionary cycles.

Mannermaa’s revisionist work on justification in Luther’s theology – a notable contribution from one of the most influential Finnish scholars of Luther studies – is now available in English. His book opens up new interpretive questions for historical theology with striking implications for ecumenism, ethics, and spirituality. He writes, “the idea of the divine life in Christ which is present in faith lies at the very center of the theology of the Reformer.” He argues that later Lutheran interpretation of this teaching has portrayed justification as more mechanical and forensic than Luther did, underestimated the extent to which God’s righteousness is also ours, and obscured the radical personal transformation that Luther attributed to justification.

Learn Or Burn
$13.49Add to cartMy name is William Shlonsky, a Jew who believed God (the Lord) could not exist. At the age of 56 years, I started my search for God. Finally, at the age of 58, I met a man who truly showed and proved to me that Jesus was who he claimed to be. This man, who was a gentile, asked if I was a Jew. I said yes! He told me to look at these scriptures: Isaiah 40:3, Malachi 3: 1, and John 1:23. They all struck me in my heart. At that point, the deep spirit of sleep slid off my eyes, fell from my ears, and changed my heart to flesh! At this point, I became a born again believer. As I learned, we all have free will to accept God or reject him. It was a sad day when I said to myself, “Woe to those who I knew but did not believe.” Some I cared for, but I have not seen them in a long while. Through the scriptures, the Lord revealed how we lock the doors to our homes from wicked men, but we don’t even think of the evil spirits who are constantly seeking access to us. Against their attacks, in our own strength, we have no method of defense. And if we don’t come to the knowledge of God (Jesus), these evil, demonic spirits can distract our minds, torment our bodies, destroy our possessions, and tear our lives apart. These unclean spirits long for our misery and destruction. If we don’t accept God’s gift for our lives, his grace will eventually turn to wrath and we will be given up to our own lusts of the flesh and to the control of these evil spirits. This is why and how the Lord led me to write this book, Learn or Burn for in God’s Eye “Brain Rape” Is No Excuse.

Speeding Beyond The Limit
$16.49Add to cartWhat does the Bible really teach about how Christian believers are to behave on the earth? SPEEDING BEYOND THE LIMIT? by John L. Langston III John Langston III searches the Scriptures to find an answer to the question, “How should we behave before a holy God?” This study reveals many convicting and sobering glimpses of righteous behavior that brings glory to a righteous God. Included in the author’s expository look at righteous behavior are some rarely recognized, perhaps never thought about aspects of what really pleases God. Were it not for the Bible, we would have no idea what behavior is really acceptable or right in the sight of God. The knowledge of how to respond to God in a worshipful and pleasing way should be the desire of every believer. The question is, are we guilty of speeding beyond the boundaries of what God has chosen to please Him concerning the believer’s earthly behavior? God forbid that anyone who claims to be redeemed by salvation in Christ would not listen to God’s instructions in the Bible, which is meant to guide our daily conduct.

Callahan suggests that scholars have wrongly placed the sequence and therefore the importance of the works collectively known as the Johannine tradition – the Gospel of John and the Johannine Epistles. His proposal includes literary, theological, and historical analysis as he argues for the reevaluation of a significant part of the biblical canon. -

$13.95Add to cartComprised of two compelling services plus a pair of delightful children’s messages, this complete set of Christmas Eve resources provides everything you need to create a special worship experience that your congregation will remember long after the holiday decorations have been stored away.
A Christmas Gift contemplates Christmas Eve’s mixture of madness and magic through a creative weaving together of carols, prayers, scripture readings, and several brief meditations. By highlighting some of the diverse moments, memories, and traditions that contribute to the gift of Christmas, this worship service evokes the powerful mystery and miracle of the nativity.
O Come, Emmanuel is a moving candlelight service which utilizes the ancient antiphons of Advent to explore the longing behind our search for the Messiah. As the service unfolds, the singing and reading of each antiphon leads worshipers to reflect on the hopes and desires that bring us to Bethlehem, culminating in the joyful announcement that God has come among us. The service employs two readers and a solo quartet, along with congregational singing of several traditional hymns. An original choral arrangement of the Christmas antiphon is included.
Two inspiring messages for the “children’s moment” are also included. Featuring an interactive, conversational style that involves young people, these lessons can be used with either service or separately. Why Did Jesus Die
$8.95Add to cartWhat really motivated the main characters in the events surrounding Jesus’ death? Was Judas merely a pragmatic man dealing with the unpleasant realities of everyday life in an occupied land? Was Herod an honorable leader of the Hebrew people who was concerned with saving lives? Was Pontius Pilate a talented and efficient representative of Rome who was simply trying to keep the peace? Or did they all intentionally participate in the wrongful execution of an innocent man?
Written in an easy-to-present format, this fascinating drama series will have your congregation pondering how they would answer these and many other questions. Six biblical characters come to life in new and revealing ways as they take the witness stand in a contemporary grand jury inquiry into the meaning of Jesus’ death. While attempting to explain their thoughts and actions, Judas, Caiaphas, Herod, Pilate, Mary Magdalene, and Peter face intense questioning by a state’s attorney. The innovative grand jury approach makes audiences active participants in the drama, as they are challenged to determine the true significance of the crucifixion.
Why Did Jesus Die? is an enlightening six-part resource that’s perfect for weekly Lenten worship, but it can also be easily used as a single dramatic production. Several thought-provoking questions relating to each witness’s testimony are provided to spark follow-up discussion, and a closing argument by the state’s attorney summarizes the evidence pointing to Jesus’ innocence ? and our sinful guilt.

Roll Back The Stone
$20.95Add to cartCreate memorable services that help worshipers experience the profound sadness of the crucifixion as well as the marvelous joy of the risen Christ with this diverse collection of ready-to-use dramatic material. With ample selections for Lent, Holy Week, and Easter, there’s something special here for congregations of any size or worship style. Copying privileges are included for all segments. Included are:
* A Travesty Of Justice: In The Shadow Of The Cross (Kathy Martz), a series of six meditations in which an unusual assortment of “eyewitnesses” – the thorn, robe, nail, spear, shroud, and stone – tell about their extraordinary encounters with Jesus. Designed for use in Lenten vesper services, these spiritual contemplations examine the events leading up to the crucifixion from a unique perspective. Each user-friendly monologue comes with a brief scripture reading and a prayer.
* Live From Jerusalem (John O. Eby), a short Palm Sunday play that helps audiences envision what it would have been like to be on the scene of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Tying biblical prophecy together with a contemporary view, television-style news anchors and correspondents vividly portray the chaos and uncertainty of the first day of Passover while speculating on how simmering conflicts will be resolved – leaving audiences to ponder the question “What comes next?”
* Maundy Thursday Testimonies (David H. Covington), a brief set of dramatic readings depicting the Passion events and their meaning from the viewpoint of four characters: Mary Magdalene, Thomas, Judas, and Peter. An excellent vehicle for members to participate in worship, these moving monologues provide an especially powerful contribution to the Maundy Thursday service.
* God On Trial, Or…? (John O. Eby), a courtroom drama for Good Friday which portrays Jesus’ trial before Pilate ? with the novel twist of Beelzebub as the prosecutor, questioning several witnesses who level accusations against Jesus. While it is ostensibly Jesus who is on trial, it gradually becomes clear that everyone else (including all of us) is actually on trial before him ? giving new and deeper meaning to Christ’s plea, “Father, forgive them, for they do not understand what they are doing!”
* Sons Of Thunder (Carol Secord), a brief Good Friday sketch in which James and John struggle to come to grips with the stark reality of the crucifixion. As they bitterly lash out in anger and frustration at those who abandoned Jesu

Soul Searching : The Religious And Spiritual Lives Of American Teenagers
$84.00Add to cartWinner of the 2006 Christianity Today Book Award for Christianity and Culture Description
In most discussions and analyses of American teenage life, one major topic is curiously overlooked–religion. Yet most American teens say that religious faith is important in their lives. What is going on in the religious and spiritual lives of American teenagers? What do they actually believe? What religious practices do they engage in? Do they expect to remain loyal to the faith of their parents? Or are they abandoning traditional religious institutions in search of a new, more “authentic” spirituality?
Answering these and many other questions, Soul Searching tells the definitive story of the religious and spiritual lives of contemporary American teenagers. It reports the findings of The National Study of Youth and Religion, the largest and most detailed such study ever undertaken. Based on a nationwide telephone survey of teens and their parents, as well as in-depth face-to-face interviews with more than 250 of the survey respondents, Soul Searching shows that religion is indeed a significant factor in the lives of many American teenagers. Chock full of carefully interpreted interview data and solid survey statistics, Soul Searching reveals many surprising findings. For example, the authors find that teenagers are far more influenced by the religious beliefs and practices of their parents and other adults than is commonly thought. They challenge the conventional wisdom that many teens today are “spiritual seekers.” And they show that greater teenage religious involvement is significantly associated with more positive adolescent life outcomes.
Soul Searching reveals the complexity of contemporary teenage religious life, showing that religion is widely practiced and positively valued by teens, but also de-prioritized and very poorly understood by them, yet significant nonetheless in shaping their lives. More broadly, Soul Searching describes what appears to be a major transformation of faith in the U.S., away from the substance of historical religious traditions and toward a new and quite different faith the authors call “Moralistic Therapeutic Deism.” -

Gathering : Spirituality And Theology In Free Church Worship
$60.99Add to cartGathering is a work of liturgical theology in which the faith of the Christian community is explored through a study of its worship. The book is significant in doing this from a Free Church perspective. Most ecumenical work on worship has been greatly influenced by those traditions which use written liturgical texts and who give a normative place to the Eucharist.
Free Church worship however needs to be studied on its own terms if its ecumenical contribution is to be fully appreciated. Conversely evangelical attention to worship has tended to be pragmatic rather than theological and has not used the insights of liturgical study to understand worship as a key place of spiritual formation or expression. Using a study of Baptist worship, Gathering explores the spirituality implicit in a worship tradition which to date has received little theological or historical attention.

Varying in tone from light-hearted, lyrical, and poetic to serious and somber, her thoughts are always trusting and faithful. Marney applied that unquenchable love of God to daily living, difficult decisions, family life, and ultimately her own impending death. This journal is her legacy that she asked to be shared. “They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha. . . . And they crucified him. . . . Some women were watching from a distance.” (Mark 15:22, 24, 40).At the climax of Mark’s Gospel, Jesus of Nazareth is put to death on a Roman cross. The text tells us that, in that lonely hour, a group of women were watching the crucifixion “from a distance.” In a sense, they are given a stance toward the cross that we can share.
In this exploration of Mark’s Gospel, Peter G. Bolt looks at why the cross is so prominent in the narrative, asks what contribution Mark’s teaching can make to our understanding of the atonement, and shows how this teaching can inform, correct and enrich our own preaching of the gospel in the contemporary world. This New Studies in Biblical Theogy volume helps us to stand in wonder before the God who has come close to us in the cross of Jesus Christ and to live in hope for the better things to come.
Addressing key issues in biblical theology, the works comprising New Studies in Biblical Theology are creative attempts to help Christians better understand their Bibles. The NSBT series is edited by D. A. Carson, aiming to simultaneously instruct and to edify, to interact with current scholarship and to point the way ahead.

Biblical Interpretation At Qumran

This volume by preeminent scholars in the field examines central aspects of scriptural interpretation as it was practiced at Qumran and discusses their implications for understanding the biblical tradition.

These chapters explore examples of biblical interpretation unique to Qumran, including legal exegesis and the Pesher. Readers will also find discussion of such fascinating subjects as the “rewritten Bible,” views on the creation of humanity, the “Pseudo-Ezekiel” texts, the pesharim, and the prophet David.

Nature As Reason
$42.99Add to cartThis noteworthy book develops a new theory of the natural law that takes its orientation from the account of the natural law developed by Thomas Aquinas, as interpreted and supplemented in the context of scholastic theology in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.
Though this history might seem irrelevant to twenty-first-century life, Jean Porter shows that the scholastic approach to the natural law still has much to contribute to the contemporary discussion of Christian ethics. Aquinas and his interlocutors provide a way of thinking about the natural law that is distinctively theological while at the same time remaining open to other intellectual perspectives, including those of science.
In the course of her work, Porter examines the scholastics’ assumptions and beliefs about nature, Aquinas’s account of happiness, and the overarching claim that reason can generate moral norms. Ultimately, Porter argues that a Thomistic theory of the natural law is well suited to provide a starting point for developing a more nuanced account of the relationship between specific beliefs and practices. While Aquinas’s approach to the natural law may not provide a system of ethical norms that is both universally compelling and detailed enough to be practical, it does offer something that is arguably more valuable – namely, a way of reflecting theologically on the phenomenon of human morality.

The Bride and the Broken Wineskin steps outside the religious forms that currently limit the Church and makes a powerful call for a return to biblical team structure, capable of growing each believer up to his, or her, FULL ministry and potential service. The Author draws on many years of experience pastoring, ministering and prayerful bible study to provide the simple, yet powerful answers capable of re-energizing the Church to fruitful growth as we seek to bring In the end time harvest of souls.” -Gary Robinson – A Geophysicist, and an Elder and minister to the body of Christ God views what we call “church” and sees two expressions: The Bride of the Lord Jesus 1. Passionate for her Groom. 2. Submitted to Jesus as her only head. 3. Flexible and desirous for the Lord’s will. The Old and Broken Wineskin 1. Functional yet lacking true passion for the Lord. 2. Dominated by man. 3. Rigid and motivated by self-interest. The Question we must ask is, “our church” an expression of the bride or the old wineskin? We must endeavor to remove obstacles that keep us from being the expression of Christ’s glorious bride on the earth, encourage pure worship, and surrender to Jesus the only Head of the church Brother Steve has some very valuable insight into the plight of our immature and broken condition as the Church. We must as individual believers; get our life from Christ, via the presence of His Holy Spirit. Steve rightly points out that eternal fruit is thus produced, and that our present focus on the organization tends to hinder the healthy growth of the organism, that glorious body of Christ, the Bride. May the Redeemer indeed reclaim and build His Church, as HE desires. -Marc Felder – A Minister of the Gospel that has established churches In the U.S. and Ireland

This fascinating books sifts the evidence and startlingly concludes that in the earliest sources Judas was not a traitor. While the name Judas Iscariot evokes horror among many people, Klassen argues persuasively that Judas may have meant no harm in handing over Jesus to the religious authorities. The book traces the ways in which Judas is portrayed by the four writers of the gospels, showing how the picture was increasingly demonized as the later gospels were written. This is the most important study in English of Judas within the context of first-century Judaism. Klassen shows by rich reference to literature of both the ancient period and later times how the concept of Judas as traitor emerged

From Feminist Theology To Indecent Theology
$35.00Add to cartThe author has developed a new approach to doing theology, which examines Liberation Theology and Feminist Theology and marks a shift from these traditional critiques, resulting in what the author refers to as “Indecent Theology”. The author uses Queer theory and Post Colonial analysis to show more clearly how this shift, especially from gender to sexuality, has occurred. The book also looks towards the future possibilities of a theology done in times of globalisation. To help to clarify this theoretical subject, the book is broken down into three areas. The first section deals with the genesis of Indecent Theology, and includes material that is foundational, but not widely available until now. The second section looks more closely at just what Indecent Theology is, and the third section considers the future of Indecent Theologies, and ties up the questions raised in the earlier sections.

How Christianity Changed The World
$26.99Add to cartWestern civilization is becoming increasingly pluralistic, secularized, and biblically illiterate. Many people today have little sense of how their lives have benefited from Christianity’s influence, often viewing the church with hostility or resentment. This book is a topically arranged Christian history for Christians and non-Christians. Grounded in solid research and written in a popular style, this book is both a helpful apologetic tool in talking with unbelievers and a source of evidence for why Christianity deserves credit for many of the human, social, scientific, and cultural advances in the Western world in the last two thousand years. Photographs, timelines, and charts enhance each chapter. This edition features questions for reflection and discussion for each chapter.

He thinks there are! In a third part Ganssle addresses the thorny issue of the existence both of God and of evil. He thinks there’s a valid way through this problem. In the final part Ganssle helps us thread our way through questions like: What can God know? How does God communicate? Training In Christianity
$19.00Add to cartThis indispensable guide to the search for kinship with God was written by the great nineteenth-century Danish philosopher Sren Kierkegaard (1813-1855), whose writings set the stage for existentialism and continue to exert a lasting influence on believers and nonbelievers alike.
Kierkegaard struck out against all forms of established order-including the established church-that work to make men complacent with themselves and thereby obscure their personal responsibility to encounter God. He considered Training in Christianity his most important book. It represented his effort to replace what he believed had become “an amiable, sentimental paganism” with authentic Christianity. Kierkegaard’s challenge to live out the implications of Christianity in the most personal decisions of life will greatly appeal to readers today who are trying to develop their personal integrity in accordance with the truths of revealed religion.

Body Broken : Answering Gods Call To Love One Another
$10.99Add to cartFor those brave writers who attempt to dispense spiritual wisdom from their own experiences, each sentence can be fraught with peril. Those who traffic in their own experiences of God for a public audience run the risk of disclosing too much or too little-having too many answers to be convincing, or not enough to satisfy the hungry reader. What saves Episcopal layman and veteran spiritual writer Benson’s autobiographical musings from becoming routine is his willingness to share his struggles with a specific issue: why is the fellowship of believers broken into so many competing parties? Benson’s desire to understand, respect and honor the faith of other Christians is a powerful force here, animating that which otherwise might have seemed mundane. Reflecting on how difficult it is for even those bound by a mutual faith to seek a common scriptural understanding, Benson comments: “We are not called to explain the Christ; we called to follow the Christ. We are not called to build walls that keep his friends apart from each other; we are called to build the kingdom together.” Alternatively tender, sad, regretful and joyous, Benson offers his tales with the honesty of a man who doesn’t pretend to have all the answers. He brings to the topic a profound, if chastened, sense of God’s presence in his daily life and relationships. Benson’s passion will appeal to many readers seeking a well-crafted meditation on a topic that has persistently bemused Christians of all denominations.
