Everything You Always Wanted To Know About God
$17.00Add to cartWe all have questions about God. But very few of us get the answers we’re looking for-if those answers even exist! Do they? Where (in heaven’s name) do you go to find out?
Eric Metaxas understands. That’s why he’s written this refreshingly down-to-earth take on the big questions everyone asks (but not always out loud).
Finally a book that takes questions about God seriously enough to get silly (where appropriate). Wonderfully conversational and often very funny, this book joins you in wondering:
*How can a good God create a world that has evil and suffering?
*Is God anti-sex?
*Doesn’t science make God obsolete?
*What’s the real story on miracles?
*If God is everywhere, why go to church?
*Don’t we already have God within us?
*Isn’t God too busy running the universe to care about the details of my day?
*What does the Bible say about things like UFOs, ESP, and the afterlife-and what about Bigfoot? These questions (and many more like them) get straight answers that don’t hide behind dull and confusing theological language. So get the lowdown on the big questions everyone asks-but please try not to laugh (because it’s a very serious topic).

Cave Of John The Baptist
$23.00Add to cartThe first archaeological evidence of the historical reality of the Gospel story.
From a historical point of view, the uniqueness of this cave is that it contains archaeological evidence that comes to us from the very time of the personalities and events described in the Gospels. For here is the largest ritual bathing pool ever found in the Jerusalem area, and found in the village where John the Baptist was born, showing unmistakable signs of ritual use in the first century AD. Also in the cave is the earliest ever Christian art, depicting John the Baptist as well as the three crosses of the crucifixion.
By using the forensic techniques available to the modern archaeologist, Gibson and his international team have been able to draw information from the drawings, pottery, coins, bones, remains of ritual fire and pieces of cloth found in the cave and match these up with the contemporary literary sources. This is a unique opportunity to build up a picture of the very first Christians, how they lived and even what they believed.

Gods Soldiers : Adventure Politics Intrigue And Power A History Of The Jesu
$19.00Add to cartThroughout history members of the Society of Jesus, popularly known as Jesuits, have been accused of killing kings and presidents, have traveled as missionaries to every corner of the globe, founded haciendas in Mexico, explored the Mississippi and Amazon rivers, and served Chinese emperors as map makers, painters, and astronomers. As well as the predictable roll call of saints and martyrs, the Society can also lay claim to the thirty-five craters on the moon named for Jesuit scientists. Jesuits have been despised and idolized on a scale unknown to members of any other religious order; they have died the most horrible deaths and done the most outlandish deeds.
Whether loved or loathed, the Jesuits’ dramatic and wide-ranging impact could never be ignored. By the mid-eighteenth century, they had established more than 650 educational institutions. They were also strongly committed to foreign missions, and like the secular explorers and settlers of the Age of Discovery, they traveled to the Far East, India, and the Americas to stake a claim. They were especially successful in Latin America, where they managed to put numerous villages entirely under Jesuit rule.
The Jesuits’ successes both in Europe and abroad, coupled with rumors of scandal and corruption within the order, soon drew criticism from within the Church and without. Writers such as Pascal and Voltaire wrote polemics against them, and the absolute monarchs of Catholic Europe sought to destroy them. Their power was seen as so threatening that hostility escalated into serious political feuds, and at various times they were either banned or harshly suppressed throughout Europe.
God’s Soldiers is a fascinating chronicle of this celebrated, mysterious, and often despised religious order. Jonathan Wright illuminates as never before their enduring contributions as well as the controversies that surrounded them. The result is an in-depth, unbiased, and utterly compelling history.

Modern Revivalism : Charles Grandison Finney To Billy Graham
$50.00Add to cartWipf And Stock Publishers
This book is concerned with religious revivalism in the United States since 1825. It attempts to explain the part which revivalism has played, and is playing today, in the social, intellectual, and religious life of America. The aim has been, in describing the development of modern revivalism and the men who devoted their lives to it, to look below the surface phenomenon in an effort to discover why revivals have constantly recurred, what their effects have been, and what they meant not only to those directly concerned but to all Americans. If the revivals of the past century and a quarter have not always been the crucial factors in the course of American history that their devout exponents claimed, they have nevertheless been more significant than the social historians have yet acknowledged. from the Preface

Romans : New Testament Volume 6 (Reprinted)
$75.99Add to cartSt. Paul’s Letter to the Romans has long been considered the theological high-water mark of the New Testament. It was no less regarded by the ancient church, and patristic interpreters have left us an abundance of valuable comment on Romans.
This Ancient Christian Commentary on Romans collects the best and most representative of patristic commentary and homily on Romans, and it brings to the public some valuable material that has hitherto been unavailable in English translation.
Outstanding among these commentators is “Ambrosiaster,” the name given to the unknown Latin commentator of the late fourth century, whose enduring worth is evident to all who read him. And the extensive commentary by Origen, largely inaccessible to modern readers, is frequently and extensively presented here in English for the first time. These commentators are joined by great figures such as John Chrysostom of Constantinople, Theodore of Mopsuestia, Augustine of Hippo, Theodoret of Cyrus, and several lesser commentators such as Diodore of Tarsus and Didymus the Blind of Alexandria.
This commentary on Romans (now in its second edition) provides a rare opportunity to encounter the familiar Pauline exposition of the righteousness of God as it echoes in the great Christian minds and communities of the early church.

8.Seeing The Divine ImageAdditional Info
Theologian Ian McFarland claims that Christians have mainly misappropriated the “image of God” language for 2000 years and thereby missed a rich resource for our knowledge of God.Rather than referring to some germinal divine element in humans, such as reason, McFarland claims that the image of God in us tells us something about God and how we know God. It tells us that God, though not identical with us, communicates Godself to us in creative love, in a way that offers precious clues about God’s transcendence, immanence, triune life, self-disclosure, incarnation, and intentions for human life. McFarland’s careful and exacting work builds from this kernel a powerful Christian vision of God’s life and our own destiny in Christ.

Moreover, it could be used as a supplementary text in courses on christology, the historical Jesus, New Testament literature, and the Bible. Murphy will provide an introduction to the gospels that does justice to the full range of modern critical methods and insights. He will discuss the implications of these methods for how we understand the nature of the gospels and how we can read them today. The chapters will sketch the portrait of Jesus that emerges from each gospel, and then examine the “canonical” view of Jesus by comparing and contrasting these pictures, as well as the ones that emerge from the non-canonical gospels and from the modern quest for the historical Jesus. -

Real Me : Being The Girl God Sees
$16.99Add to cartYou’re too fat. You’re too skinny. Your hair isn’t curly enough. Your nose is too big. If only your face looked like hers.
There are many voices in this world telling us how we should think of ourselves. Television and the media pat pictures of perfection that are a far cry form God’s perspective on who we really are. It is amazing how often we believe these lies and live as though the were true. But they’re not true. Not God’s truth.
In The Real Me, contemporary singer/songwriter Natalie Grant shares how a distorted self-image pushed her to a destructive eating disorder. Whether the story involves an eating disorder, drug addition, sexual promiscuity, or simply “acting out,” Natalie reminds us that we are not alone in the journey of life. No matter what happens or what we look like, God loves us just as we are. -

Images Of Pastoral Care

This book is at once a history of the field, woven together around living illustrations of key moments and metaphors, and a fresh conceptualization. Seldom does one find a book that is so useful both for ministers desiring a basic introduction to pastoral care and doctoral students seeking a sophisticated understanding of the field. We are indebted to Dykstra for this multifaceted contribution.”

$17.95Add to cartPerhaps nothing expresses the mystery of our search for the divine as well as the labyrinth. A circular pathway based on spirals found in nature, the labyrinth is a time-honored spiritual tool in faith traditions as varied as Native American, Jewish, and Celtic. As seekers walk to the center of the labyrinth, their minds quiet and turn to God. Walking out again, they bring into the world the spiritual gifts they?ve received. In A Labyrinth Year, Kautz guides readers on a labyrinth pilgrimage that winds through the seasons of the liturgical year with devotions (to be used while walking the labyrinth) based on the thoughts and emotions of biblical characters whose stories are recalled in the seasonal scripture readings. As readers explore the journeys of these people of faith, they connect with the deeper meaning of the stories and learn to live them out in their own experience.

It will challenge and refresh anyone invested in ministry with children. -
Called
$15.99Add to cartAre You One of “The Called”? As firmly believed by the author, this novel is a divinely inspired complement to the first 32 chapters of Genesis, intent only on making God’s story/plan clearer to “truth seekers.” It is written in the narrative voice of the prophet Enoch and is an elaboration of events from the time God began creating both invisibly and visibly, up until the changing of Jacob’s name to Israel. Most intriguing is its intricate pre-flood account from Adam to Noah, including the era of the wicked angels descending and fathering the vile Nephilim, and God’s reasoning for the calling, utilization, and translation of Enoch to heaven. Christian, you will find this novel truly inspirational! But it’s for you non-Christians that we pray God’s added blessing on this more un-intimidating introduction to His story/plan, and that He’ll subsequently draw you to actual Bible study and salvation in Christ.
-
Romans In Full Circle
$35.00Add to cartThe New Testament book of Romans has played an important role in the life of the church from the period of the early church and through to the present day. In this concise survey of the major theological changes associated with Paul’s letter, Mark Reasoner focuses on its history and interpretation, particularly through the works of Origen, Augustine, the medieval exegetes, Luther, and Barth. In so doing, he reveals that by a circuitous route, western Christians in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries are returning to reading Romans in ways very similar to Origen’s concerns in the third century. This is true particularly in regard to issues of the human will, sensitivity to Jews and Judaism, openness to the possibility of universalism, and a deconstructive reading of the obedience to government passage in Romans 13. Thus, in addition to giving a helpful overview of Romans itself, this book will help readers situate their theological questions within the two thousand-year history of conversations about Paul’s letter to Roman believers.

Wondrous Depth : Preaching The Old Testament
$34.00Add to cartEllen Davis is concerned by what she calls a “shallow reading” of Scripture–a reading of what we think we already know instead of an attempt to dig deeper for new insights and revelations. Wondrous Depth is a collection of essays in which Davis argues for a more engaged reading of Scripture that opens the reader up to new knowledge and understanding. Davis also demonstrates that preaching and biblical interpretation are essentially related to one another in that it is essential for preachers to engage in thorough reading and interpretation of Scripture from the pulpit and to encourage their congregations to read the Bible with depth and sensitivity as well.

Church And The Churches
$15.99Add to cartwith a Postcript coauthored by Michael W. Goheen
In print for two decades and translated into eight languages, Albert Wolters’s classic formulation of an integrated Christian worldview has been revised and expanded to reach new readers beyond the generation that has already benefited from this clear, concise proposal for transcending the false dichotomy between sacred and secular. Wolters begins by defining the nature and scope of a worldview, distinguishing it from philosophy and theology. He then outlines a Reformed analysis of the three basic categories in human history – creation, fall, and redemption – arguing that while the fall reaches into every corner of the world, Christians are called to participate in Christ’s redemption of all creation. This Twentieth Anniversary edition features a new concluding chapter, coauthored with Michael Goheen, that helpfully places the discussion of worldview in a broader narrative and missional context.
