  • Revelation Reclaimed

    $19.99

The book of Revelation seems very odd to modern readers and has been interpreted in some strange ways over the centuries. In plain English, Jon Newton guides readers through curious interpretations past and present and explains where they go wrong. In particular, the massively influential dispensationalist interpretations of the Left Behind novels and Hal Lindsay are explained and found wanting. But, more than exposing misunderstandings of the book, Newton is concerned to persuade readers that Revelation is profoundly relevant today when interpreted responsibly. In an easy to follow way he explains principles for reading Revelation virtuously. Newton ends with an investigation into the ever-controversial question of the millenium.

  • Let It Go

    $13.49

Let it Go! Many times, we encounter trials in life that we believe will take us out of this world through a stress attack, heart attack or some other ailment. Even though we say that we trust in the Lord, it does not necessarily mean that the anxiety or stress associated with the trial always goes away. But, believing and trusting in the Lord in our spirit and heart enables us to know that God will work the situation out for our good. Trusting God does not mean that we will not get any bruises and experience pain during the trial. What it means is that the great and mighty God that we serve will take the problem when we cast the care upon Him, letting it go and allowing Him to handle it.

  • Healing Waters : A Sullivan Crisp Novel

    $17.99

Lucia Coffey longs to feel good about herself and her body . . . but she can’t get the negative voices out of her head.

Lucia has always lived in the shadow of her sister Sophia, a charismatic ministry leader with a huge following. She doesn’t feel worthy of her sister or her husband, and her own dreams of being a dancer have long since gone by the wayside. As her self-esteem and self-worth plummet, her struggle to keep her weight under control soars.

But then she meets Sullivan Crisp, the decidedly unorthodox psychologist who is well-known for his quirky sense of humor and incorporation of “game show” theology into his counseling sessions. He sees the beauty hidden in Lucia and sets about trying to help her find it for herself.

Lucia longs for the faith to walk on water. And with the endlessly creative ways God uses our meager efforts to bring hope and new life, she just might find the path that leads her there.

  • Single Moms Devotional (Reprinted)

    $16.00

When Carol Floch realized that her marriage was about to end and that she was about to join the ranks of moms left to raise their children on their own, she could not stop crying. She mourned her shattered hopes and grieved the loss of the family she had always dreamed of. But mostly, she cried for her children. Into Carol’s grief, regret, and fear, God’s Spirit came with a message from Psalm 84: Build your nest near my altar, and I will be your children’s source of security, protection, provision, and blessing. In The Single Mom’s Devotional, Carol tells her story and shares with the sisterhood of single moms how they can build their family’s nest in the protective shadow of God’s presence. Single mothers, whether on their own after a divorce or a husband’s death, will discover how to find true life in Christ and allow the strength of that inner life to be the compass by which they navigate an unpredictable future. Near God’s altar, the cross of Christ is where single moms will discover life through relinquishment, power through dependence, and hope through surrender. Anchored at the foot of the cross, readers will find daily security and hope as they nourish their souls and nurture their children at a place near God’s altar.

  • Fierce Tenderness : A Feminist Theology Of Friendship

    $24.00

“In Fierce Tenderness, Mary E. Hunt continues to chart the way from unjust, unequal power relationships to new experiences of mutuality through friendship?. Employing a combination of sources such as literature, case studies, and first-person accounts that easily span the gaps across racial and religious difference, gender preference and orientation, and geographical loci, this text maps new socio-ethical and theological interpretations for friendship. Hunt [contends] that when women choose to live in right relationship, new and compelling paradigms of the holy emerge, connoting co-responsibility, mutual influence, and commitment on both sides of the divine-human equation.”
-Susan Brooks Thistlewaite and Toinette M. Eugene, Chicago Theological Seminary

“In theory as well as in practice, Hunt’s work begs to be taken seriously and to be taken further?. To look to it [merely] for one additional chapter-friendship as a new theme–to add to a course in systematic theology, will lead to disappointment. The book is far too radical and too important for that. It risks changing the grammar of the enterprise, and it may well give rise to speech that is brand new.”
-Sharon H. Ringe, Wesley Theological Seminary

What does God intend for his broken creation?

In this New Studies in Biblical Theology volume, Graham A. Cole seeks to answer this question by setting the atoning work of the cross in the broad framework of God’s grand plan to restore the created order, and places the story of Jesus, his cross and empty tomb within it. Since we have become paradoxically the glory and garbage of the universe, our great need is peace with God and not just with God, but also with one another. Atonement brings shalom by defeating the enemies of peace, overcoming both the barriers to reconciliation and to the restoration of creation through the sacrifice of Christ. The “peace dividend” that atonement brings ranges from the forgiveness of sins for the individual to adoption into the family of God.

Addressing key issues in biblical theology, the works comprising New Studies in Biblical Theology are creative attempts to help Christians better understand their Bibles. The NSBT series is edited by D. A. Carson, aiming to simultaneously instruct and to edify, to interact with current scholarship and to point the way ahead.

  • Way Of The Cross In Human Relations (Reprinted)

    $24.99

In this classic book, Guy F. Hershberger examines one of the most challenging aspects of human relations-how people relate to each other, and the responsibility we have toward others.

In the book Hershberger critically examines the theology and practice of the medieval church and the Reformers, the Anabaptists, social gospel advocates, social action groups and fundamentalists, along with a look at business, labor, and race relations, the ethics of various professions, the responsibility of the state and the role of community, family, and individuals. All are brought under the searchlight of Christian discipleship.

Through it all Hershberger concludes that the way of the cross applies to the world we live in today-the ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ provide sufficient power for the redemption of all humankind.

  • Nativity Dramas The Second Season

    $14.95

Keith Hewitt is back with a second volume of cleverly developed nativity dramas in which he adapts biblical stories to popular television programs. In the same way Jesus communicated in a context that people of his time could relate to, Hewitt presents four sharp-witted takeoffs on something our culture can really relate to — TV. The humorous yet reverent treatments of these biblical narratives will hold people’s attention and breathe new life into traditional nativity texts.

All four plays are specifically designed to be produced in churches, and can be easily staged by congregations of almost any size. Props are simple and easy to find.

The four plays in this second volume are:

“A Night for News” — Taken from a CNN (Caesar News Network) news broadcast
“Bethlehem Blues” — A takeoff of the popular 80s police drama, Hill Street Blues
“Two-And-A-Half Wise Men” — A parody of the CBS sitcom Two-And-A-Half Men
“Dirty Jobs: Bethlehem” — An adaptation of Mike Rowe’s Discovery Channel show Dirty Jobs

  • Because They Hate

    $18.99

Brigitte Gabriel lost her childhood to militant Islam. In 1975 she was ten years old and living in Southern Lebanon when militant Muslims from throughout the Middle East poured into her country and declared jihad against the Lebanese Christians. Lebanon was the only Christian influenced country in the Middle East, and the Lebanese Civil War was the first front in what has become the worldwide jihad of fundamentalist Islam against non-Muslim peoples. For seven years, Brigitte and her parents lived in an underground bomb shelter. They had no running water or electricity and very little food; at times they were reduced to boiling grass to survive.

Because They Hate is a political wake-up call told through a very personal memoir frame. Brigitte warns that the US is threatened by fundamentalist Islamic theology in the same way Lebanon was- radical Islam will stop at nothing short of domination of all non-Muslim countries. Gabriel saw this mission start in Lebanon, and she refuses to stand silently by while it happens here. Gabriel sees in the West a lack of understanding and a blatant ignorance of the ways and thinking of the Middle East. She also points out mistakes the West has made in consistently underestimating the single-mindedness with which fundamentalist Islam has pursued its goals over the past thirty years. Fiercely articulate and passionately committed, Gabriel tells her own story as well as outlines the history, social movements, and religious divisions that have led to this critical historical conflict.

  • Genesis Record : A Scientific And Devotional Commentary On The Book Of Begi (Rep

    $50.00

The Genesis Record is the only commentary on the complete book of Genesis written by a creationist scientist. Written as narrative exposition rather than a critical verse-by-verse analysis (although discussions on all important historical and scientific problems are woven in to the narrative), The Genesis Record is equally useful to both the theologically trained and the layperson.

Dr. Henry M. Morris writes from the conviction that the first eleven chapters of Genesis are as truly historical as the remaining thirty-nine. This conviction is based not simply on faith but on many years of scientific study as well as the interchange of ideas with many other scientists, (both creationists and evolutionists).

In The Genesis Record, you will be conducted by a capable guide through the corridors of earth’s early history, providing the background so necessary in understanding all of Scripture. This exploration of the beginning of all things will offer insight into human character and will impact the application of biblical truth to your life in the twenty-first century.

  • Common Word : Muslims And Christians On Loving God And Neighbor

    $28.99

In late 2007 Muslim leaders came together to issue in the pages of The New York Times an open letter to Christian leaders inviting cooperation as a step toward peace. “A Common Word between Us and You” acknowledged differences in the two faiths, but contended that “righteousness and good works” should be the only areas in which they compete. The 138 signatories included over a dozen grand muftis, an ayatollah, and a Jordanian prince, and the document was considered an enormous step toward reconciliation between Islam and Christianity – two major religions with a great deal in common. Now Miroslav Volf and Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad bin Talal of Jordan have brought that letter and a collaborative Christian response – “Loving God and Neighbor Together” – together into one remarkable volume. Beyond offering the original documents, A Common Word expands the discussion by including groundbreaking dialogue between Muslim and Christian scholars addressing critical and frequently asked questions about the two documents. This is a brave and encouraging step toward harmony and accord between two of the world’s major religions so often seen to be at odds.

  • Messiah : Developments In Earliest Judaism And Christianity

    $45.00

How did the Jews from 250 B.C.E. to 200 C.E. conceive and express their beliefs in the coming of God’s Messiah? Why did the Jews closely associated with Jesus of Nazareth claim within ten years of his crucifixion in 30 C.E. that he indeed was the promised Messiah? An international team of prominent Jewish and Christian scholars discuss these and related questions in this volume that stems from the First Princeton Symposium on Judaism and Christian Origins.

The book focuses on the historical and theological importance of the presence or absence of the term “Messiah” and messianic ideas in the Hebrew Scriptures, the New Testament, Philo, the Apocrypha, the Pseudepigrapha, Josephus, and the Dead Sea Scrolls. It clarifies the key issues to be discussed, illustrates the appropriate methodology shared by international experts, and concentrates on the perplexing questions regarding messianic beliefs in Judaism and Christianity before the close of the New Testament and the editing of the Mishnah.

  • Finding Language And Imagery

    $18.00

Sermons use words. And though it appears obvious that preachers should be careful and exacting in word choice, novice preachers often set aside this aspect of preaching in favor of exegetical work and sermonic focus. Nonetheless preachers subscribe to preaching aids, peruse preaching websites, and purchase annuals of sermon illustrations in order to adorn their sermons with apt imagery. Preachers look for others’ words to amplify their own. The weekly work with language is daunting: Preachers must be disciplined to find fresh phrases for sermons and to make good choices about their own words and those borrowed from others as language shapes faith. This volume introduces the power of language to determine reality, the intricacies of language issues for preaching, and the custodial task of preachers for this work.

How surprising it was to hear the Holy Spirit say to me, “This is your breeding ground,” while standing on the grounds of Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California.

It was a place where my two sons had been born with complications. Little did I know that twenty years later my destiny would unfold between the perimeters of these same grounds. Unknowingly I had enrolled in the school of the Holy Spirit and HE would be my Instructor. I would also give birth here to a ministry which consisted among other things, of a healing ministry. These grounds where medical scholars receive training would also become the place of my training in the spiritual realm.

As you read this book you will become a part of these God-given classes that are given through divine revelations, while you gain knowledge regarding the five spiritual senses and their value. You can gain knowledge in your spiritual senses even in the absence of the five physical senses-such as in the story of “Baby O” who was believed to be born without any of his five physical senses. Then there is the revelation of the angels found in a hospital room that may have been instructors sent by the Holy Spirit. In sharing my experience you will also gain insight in such crucial areas as character development, ministry of intercession, and spiritual warfare. Your life will be transformed by the eye-openers given within these pages as they usher you into your own “breeding ground” experience!

What did the original apostles have to say about the ways that Christians should worship, live, and care for each other? Explore the answers to these questions and more in Tony Jones’ new book written for all Christians who desire to understand what it means to be Christian and worship and live in community with others.

Tony introduces readers to the Didache, a first century Christian treatise written to give instructions to the fledging churches. This enigmatic text was considered canonical by some of the early Church Fathers (i.e. John of Damascus), but was believed to be unworthy of the canon although recommended reading by others (i.e. Athanasius). Tony takes it apart, section by section, and explains its meaning while making application to the ways and problems and solutions most relevant for Christian churches today.

One who turns to commentaries for help will find that many of them are filled with complex discussions of strange Hebrew words and consideration of technical, critical questions with which most of us are totally unconcerned. A serious Bible student wishing to know Jeremiah and to understand his character, his preaching and his times will be grateful for L.?A. Mott’s Thinking Through Jeremiah. Foreword by Sewell Hall.

  • Natural Law And The Two Kingdoms

    $44.99

Conventional wisdom holds that the theology and social ethics of the Reformed tradition stand at odds with concepts of natural law and the two kingdoms. This volume challenges that conventional wisdom through a study of Reformed social thought from the Reformation to the present.
David VanDrunen begins by exploring the early development of Reformed thought in its first few centuries on the continent, in Britain, and in America. He argues that natural law and the two kingdoms were common themes in this early theology. In fact, he says, these ideas were embedded in crucial anthropological, christological, and ecclesiological doctrines, shaping convictions about the state, civil rebellion, and the role of the church in broader social life.

VanDrunen then turns to more recent thinkers of the Reformed tradition – Abraham Kuyper, Karl Barth, Herman Dooyeweerd, and Cornelius Van Til – tracing how each contributed in his own way to the decline of these doctrines in Reformed theology and social ethics. Finally, he reflects on recent signs of renewed interest in natural law and the two kingdoms, suggesting how their recovery is a hopeful sign for the Reformed tradition.

“The strength of this book is the overwhelming amount of historical evidence, judiciously analyzed and assessed, that positions the Reformed tradition clearly in the natural law, two kingdoms camp. This valuable contribution to our understanding of the Christian life cannot and should not be ignored or overlooked. The growing acceptance of the social gospel among evangelicals puts us in jeopardy of losing the gospel itself; the hostility to natural law and concomitant love affair with messianic ethics opens us up to tyranny. This is a much needed and indispensable ally in the battle for the life of the Christian community in North America.” / – John Bolt / Calvin Theological Seminary

  • Choose Love Not Power

    $16.00

The God who set aside power in order to live out love–fully expressing that love on Calvary’s tree–is at the core of the Christian message to the world. Yet in the centuries since Christ’s refusal to yield to Satan’s temptation to establish his kingdom through economic, political, and religious power, the Church has struggled to make the same refusal. In Choose Love Not Power, scholar, activist, and modern-day prophet Tony Campolo explores the relationship between love and power, beginning with an examination of Jesus’ life and working toward a “theology of power” for Christians today. He surveys the implications of choosing love over power when it comes to the global community’s most pressing issues–environmental degradation, economic inequality and instability, and perpetual war. Dr. Campolo suggests that the choice between love and power begins close to home: Christ-followers who choose love over power in marriage and in parenting will likewise opt for love in their churches, communities, and governments. The growing number of believers seeking a more authentically Christlike way to be Christian in a diverse, pluralistic society will be challenged and encouraged by this unflinching look at Jesus’s example of love.

  • Climate Justice : Ethics Energy And Public Policy

    $20.00

Energy issues and climate change have loomed up from issues at the horizon to confront humanity directly and vitally. They are now pressing public-policy challenges of monumental scale and import. James Martin-Schramm draws on decades of involvement with ethics, public policy, and environmental ethics to provide this lucid and astute analysis of the problems and options for addressing energy and climate change.

Schramm argues that reliance on fossil fuels has produced grave threats to justice, peace, and the integrity of creation. Addressing these threats requires of Christians not simply new individual sensitivities and sacrifices but a new way of living in harmony with the earth and an earnest search for policy that fosters sustainability, reflects values of equity and fairness, and operates on a scale commensurate with the problems. Martin-Schramm proposes a full analysis of the problems and causes of our situation and real principles for an ethic of ecojustice. He also provides specific assessment of norms, policy options, and recommendations in the areas of energy and climate change and a glimpse of what a workable alternative might look like, globally and locally.

Reaching unchurched children with the gospel – lessons from past and present, and strategies for the future

When Robert Raikes started his first Sunday School in 1780, he saw his idea grow to reach 300,000 unchurched children within five years – this in a nation widely ignorant of Christian ideas and values. Mark Griffiths has used Raikes’ pioneering work in examining child evangelism in the UK. Working from extensive local and national research (leading to a PhD), he considers how children ‘tick’, what basic theology is at work in Christian outreach, and what constitutes best practice in child evangelism. His text is studded with insights and observations, and brings together the author’s passion for his subject with the rigour of careful research. This is an unparalleled resource, laying the foundations of future growth.

“Nope, why should I ever want to go back to Ecuador, they gave me away, why would I want to go back,” was always Marisa’s reply to the question of her returning to her birth country. • Assaulting The Gates

Many churches want to make the transition from an inward to an outward focus, from catering to the needs of members to reaching out into the world to make disciples of Jesus Christ. Too often they try to accomplish this radical change by taking half steps and partial measures, initiating a new program here or adding a new staff members there.

Yet this kind of change requires more. To succeed in changing its core focus this way, a congregation must learn strategic thinking; it must commit itself to seeing the big picture, and to taking the steps necessary to paint that picture afresh. Everyone, including pastors, lay leaders, key teams and groups, and the congregation as a whole must be involved in a process of transformation. Paul D. Borden, author of Hit the Bullseye and Direct Hit, knows that this transformation will not be easy. But if the target is bringing more people into saving relationship with Jesus Christ, what could be more worthwhile?

  • White Ghetto : How Middle Class America Reflects Inner City Decay

Decaying values. Sexually transmitted diseases.Fatherless homes. Rampant drug use. These aren’t just problems for today’s inner cities. It’s the plight of all America.Much has been said about Bill Cosby’s incendiary remarks about urban black culture and its “dirty laundry.” But in this provocative book, Star Parker, one of today’s most controversial commentators, goes even further, proving that urban plight simply reveals a decay that is gnawing its way throughout American society as a whole. The sexual chaos, values disorientation, and social turmoil we see in our inner cities, Parker argues, is just a magnified reflection of the moral collapse happening all over America: in our schools, our churches, our homes. And this slide toward moral decrepitude is all due to a flagrant dismissal of and assault on America’s tried-and-true values. With startling statistics and disturbing stories about the increasing secularization and criminalization of the middle class, Parker holds a cracked mirror up to suburbia. Taking on tough subjects such as abortion, drug abuse, sexual politics, and religion, she offers a rousing exploration of the raging cultural war-taking you on a wild, eye-opening tour through the White Ghetto.Star Parker is the founder and president of CURE, the Coalition on Urban Renewal & Education, a nonprofit organization that provides national dialogue on issues of race and poverty in the media, inner city neighborhoods, and public policy. Engaging Economics exposes economic dimensions of the theology of the early Jesus movement, as reflected in both the texts of the New Testament and in the reception of those texts within the patristic era. Under these two considerations, the contributions demonstrate that an economic dimension was an integral component of this early movement and indicate how, in later centuries, that economic dimension was either further developed or ignored altogether. This dual focus encourages contemporary interpreters to consider their own reading strategies in a better light.

One year ago, Sarah Palin burst onto the national political stage like a comet. Yet even now, few Americans know who this remarkable woman really is.

As chief executive of America’s largest state, Sarah Palin had built a record as a reformer who pushed through changes other politicians only talked about: Energy independence. Ethics reform. The goodness of God is one of the most revolutionary truths of the Bible, but our generation has lost faith in the goodness of God. The image you carry in your heart of God and what He is like will dramatically affect your life, character, and destiny. Do you believe God can be your hero? Do you believe God has a good heart? Do you believe that God can transform you into the type of Christian that you always wanted to be? When we begin to understand and believe what it means when the Bible boldly declares that “God is good always,” our lives will begin a breathtaking transformation, as we rise up to be a mighty witness for our Lord. Anyone who has been touched with the goodness of God cannot come away the same. The goodness of God encompasses everything that God is, and is a perfect representation of all His characteristics. The goodness of God is the foundation of all His works, plans, and purposes. If we are to understand what God is like, we must first know that He is good, and not evil. The devil works tirelessly to keep the truth of the goodness of God lost in the mindset of this world, and marshals all of his forces to cause confusion about the true character of our God. The goodness of God is the pinnacle point of the spiritual battle that rages all around us. Understanding the goodness of God is first and foremost in spiritual warfare, because without this, you can never stand for God faithfully.

  • Relational Disciple : How God Uses Community To Shape Followers Of Jesus

    $14.95

Jesus lived with His disciples for three years and taught them life lessons. He molded and shaped them through community. He traveled with them and taught them as they journeyed. After three years, Jesus told them to “go and do likewise” (Matthew 28:18-20).

Christ’s way of discipleship was through relationships.
We in the west, on the other hand, prepare lone-ranger disciples based on our culture of individualism. This book will detail how our culture of individualism has now turned into isolationism and that social relationships are at an all-time low. The church of Jesus Christ has also been negatively impacted through a brand of individualism that promotes anonymity in the church.

I will contrast this with how the early church made relational disciples. Like Jesus, they focused on the one-anothers of Scripture. They took the commands of Christ literally when he told them to love one another, serve one-another and care for one another. In fact, Jesus told His disciples that as a result of the love they practiced to one another, the world would believe in His existence (John 17).

The Trinity is our example of pure community. God exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The persons of the Godhead dwell together in perfect unity. God’s very nature stirs His followers to live in unity with one another. And community is the crying need for those living in the west in the 21st century. So many are lonely, isolated and in need of loving relationships.

This book will encourage Christ-followers to allow God to mold them through the natural relationships of life: family, friends, cells, church and mission.

    Section I:

-The Problem of Isolation: the breakdown of American community in the 21st century and the immense pain and loneliness in society today.

–Relationship with the Trinity: true community stems from having a right relationship with Father, Son and Holy Spirit–the God who lives in perfect unity.

-New Testament Community: what the Bible says about relational Christianity and the need for community.

-How God uses conflict in our relationships with people to mold and shape us as His followers.

    SECTION II:
I will cover four concentric circles:

-inner circle: Spouse, family, children, close friends. Sadly, we in North America have often prioritized personal success over those closest to us.

-organic church circle: I’m referring here to the cell or a small group and those discipleship relationsh

In this book respected New Testament scholar Pheme Perkins delivers a clear, fresh, informed introduction to the earliest written accounts of Jesus – Matthew, Mark, and Luke – situating those canonical Gospels within the wider world of oral storytelling and literary production of the first and second centuries. • Exorcism And Deliverance

    $39.99

Since Jesus of Nazareth made exorcism a cornerstone of his own ministry, the Church has seen itself as engaged in a battle against the demonic. Exorcism has continued to play a role throughout Christian history in this conflict, although it has received different emphases in different times and places, and has been practiced in a range of different ways. Exorcism and Deliverance aims to shed new light on the phenomena of possession and exorcism by looking at them from a range of disciplinary perspectives. After an introduction to issues raised for theology by non-theological studies of possession, the book moves on to consider demons and deliverance in the Old and New Testaments, the Patristic period, the twentieth century West, Pentecostalism, anthropology, psychology, philosophy, cultural studies, theology, and practical theology. The diversity of essays makes sure that every facet is presented to encourage the reader thoroughly to consider this aspect of the church’s approach to evil in our society.

His reputation extended from his native East to the Christian West, and he is remembered today as a Church Father for the entire Church. Now available in a popular contemporary English translation for the first time, The Love Chapter makes available these most important reflections of St. John, on a most important portion of the New Testament.

Moving the Rock portrays several generations of African American women whose families migrated from the South to the Pacific Northwest in the 1940s and 1950s. As members of a small storefront church in central Seattle, these women-grandmothers, mothers, daughters-lean on their faith and church to face the challenges of poverty, racism, ignorance, and health. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, it is painfully obvious that many of us know little about what it is like to be poor and Black in the United States. These powerful, profound stories bring this group of women and their problems (and joys) vividly and movingly to life.

  • Managing Polarities In Congregations

    $42.00

Congregations often find themselves in power struggles over two opposing views. People on both sides believe strongly that they are right. They also assume that if they are right, their opposition must be wrong-classic “either/or” thinking. A polarity is a pair of truths that need each other over time. When an argument is about two poles of a polarity, both sides are right and need each other to experience the whole truth.

This phenomenon has been recognized and written about for centuries in philosophy and religion. It is at the heart of Taoism, where we find the familiar polarity of yin and yang energy. In the past fifty years, business leaders have come to appreciate the phenomenon, often called dilemma or paradox. No matter what it is called, the research is clear: leaders and organizations that manage polarities well outperform those who don’t.

Ralph de la Vega, President and CEO of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, shares the lessons learned in business and in life along the journey from Cuba to Corporate America.

Ralph de la Vega arrived in the United States from Cuba in 1962. He was alone. He was scared. He was 10. It would be four long years before his mother, father, and sister gained legal passage to America. But while the boy would never have chosen such circumstance, it’s the man who can look back and say he would not have changed it.

In Obstacles Welcome, de la Vega recounts his journey as a young Cuban immigrant to president and CEO of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, a subsidiary of AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T). A frontliner in the converging worlds of technology and communications, de la Vega takes readers behind the scenes of the Internet revolution, shares insights from the nation’s top technology companies, and chronicles the incredible obstacles intrinsic to successfully merging the largest wireless operations in U.S. history-those of Cingular Wireless and AT&T Wireless.

    * Unlearn thinking that hinders innovation
    * Dream big and throw off mental limits once and for all

Master of evangelical Christian suspense, Dekker (Thr3e; Blink; Skin) joins first-time author Healy in this thriller, no less fast-moving than the Christy Award-winning author’s solo prose, but also more gripping as it plunges into the life of a woman with frayed and painful family relationships. When a tragic auto accident leaves Shauna McAllister’s brother brain-damaged and erases her recent memories, she discovers she has a paranormal ability to steal memories from others, a capability that will either get her killed or unveil hidden sides of the very people she thought she could trust. Against this background, she attempts to uncover the ugly truth about her father’s dark secrets and to upend his run for president of the United States. True to Dekker’s penchant for twists that keep you guessing till the very last page, Kiss also attempts to return to snappier dialogue and more logical plotting than Skin. A psychological suspense thriller that shines light into black-market child trafficking, Dekker’s latest will satisfy Christian fiction lovers who want complex characters and who believe in the stark realities of true good and heinous evil.

Sometimes the heroes of history are truly worthy of the golden reputations they carry.

King Alfred united Anglo-Saxon England against a Viking invasion, led the English into battle against the Danish hordes, created a renaissance of literature and the arts, reformed the legal system, and set the stage for a revival of Christian worship. But that’s not what made him great. Ben Merkle unravels the tale of how a great man came to power during one of the most difficult periods in English history, how he led his nation through them, and how he laid the groundwork for England’s coming triumphs on the global stage.

Connects theology with the practice of ministry in new ways.
Connects historical themes with modern research about the meaning and development of children.
A magisterial theological survey that sheds new light on the various ways children have been viewed.
Provides a historical and theological rationale for the Godly Play project.

The long story of children in theology is told via analysis of some twenty-five theologians, grouped according to six historical periods. Each account examines what a particular theologian thought about children and the experience it was based upon. Four themes that have shaped our attitudes about children in the church emerge from this history, ambivalence, ambiguity, indifferences, and grace. The result of this study is to promote a healthier church, which will respect and utilize the distinctive gifts of children. In so doing, theologians will be better able to help clear the way for grace in the postmodern church.
