Analogy Of Being
$51.99Add to cartExplores whether human minds can truly discover God without Christ
Does all knowledge of God come through Christ alone, or can human beings discover truths about God philosophically? This volume of essays by expert Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox theologians examines the relationship between divine revelation through the person of Jesus Christ and human reason.
These essays are the continuation of a lively, decades-long debate between Karl Barth and Erich Przywara, first sparked in 1932 when Barth wrote that the use of natural theology in the Catholic tradition was the “invention of the anti-Christ.” In The Analogy of Being, contributors analyze and reflect on both sides of the controversy and look deeply into such topics as the role of metaphysical thinking in theology, the nature and grace of human knowledge of God, and the Trinitarian structure of divine revelation and action.

The word evangelism evokes strong reactions among Christians. Conflict about what it is, whether to do it, how to go about it, and the desired results divides churches, demonstrating the need for new theologies and methods that address today’s religiously pluralistic and secular contexts. This book offers a comprehensive treatment of evangelism, from biblical models to contemporary practice. Frances Adeney shows that understanding different contexts and approaches to evangelism and accepting the views of others on this crucial topic can help replace the “evangelism wars” (social action vs. proclamation) with a more graceful approach to sharing God’s good news with the world. -

Quest For A Black Theology
$15.00Add to cartThe late 1960s witnessed tumult over the Vietnam War, the deaths of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr., rioting by African Americans in major U.S. cities, and the rise of the Black Power Movement. At the same time there emerged, even amid serious controversy in the black churches, black liberation theology and its radical critique not only of white power structures but of historic Christianity itself. This classic volume, a gathering of essays from a pivotal conference of black churchmen, ethicists, and theologians at Georgetown University in 1969, reflects the urgency, contention, and energy of that time. Debating black consciousness, pride, power, and liberation in relation to Christianity, the chapters of this volume speak of and to the pain and possibility experienced by African Americans at the time, as well as to the deep divisions-and deep faith-within the black churches of the day.

In Pursuit Of The Miraculous
$13.99Add to cartOne dictionary definition of miracles is that they are ‘remarkable and welcome events that seem impossible to explain’. But can they still happen today? Should we expect them? Jesus certainly encouraged his disciples to anticipate miraculous accompaniments to their proclamation of his good news. In Mark 16:17-18 he emphasizes five signs that ‘will accompany those who believe’ (v17).
So if we accept that miracles do happen today, how might we see more of the miraculous in the twenty-first century? How can they be experienced? Just what kind of faith is needed for them to happen? Are there hindrances that can stop them occurring and if so, what are they?

Reframing Hope : Vital Ministry In A New Generation
$31.00Add to cartMuch has been written about the changing landscape the church finds itself in, and even more about the church’s waning influence in our culture. From her vantage point as an under-40 pastor, Carol Howard Merritt, author of Tribal Church, moves away from the handwringing toward a discovery of what ministry in, with, and by a new generation might look like. What does the substance of hope look like right now? What does hope look like when it is framed in a new generation? Motivated by these questions, Merritt writes Reframing Hope with the understanding that we are not creating from nothing the vital ministry of the next generation. Instead, we are working through what we have, sorting out the best parts, acknowledging and healing from the worst, and reframing it all.
She explores the spirit of collaboration that has grown up in our culture as the diffusion of authority continues to move toward a network of sharing resources and information. She shares the spiritual longing she sees in those of her generation and acknowledges that people will no longer settle for one-way preaching and entertaining services-they want their worship to become meaningful; they want their spirituality to lead to action. Merritt believes that if we can manage to navigate many of these important shifts, the years ahead are full of hope, but only if we recognize and welcome the changes that will come and open ourselves to what new adaptations will bring to us.

Rivers Of Darkness Visions Of Light
$17.95Add to cartRivers of Darkness, Visions of Light: From Extortion to Salvation is the true story of an extortion attempt and of the life that both precedes and follows the decision to commit the crime. The story involves a maze of psychological and spiritual twists to maintain an element of growing suspense throughout.
This true account is told with an unusual transparency, revealing normally hidden personal thoughts, vulnerabilities, and motivations. The first chapter opens with a glimpse into the tormented mind of a young child separated from life and love, and the second chapter has the reader swimming along with the author in the Mississippi River for five miles in a daring nighttime operation to pick up a packaged bundle of cash along a New Orleans riverbank. Action follows with the site being under continual and hidden surveillance by a seven-man team headed by the FBI.
The story then reverts to the events that helped shape the life that brought about this crime, and a chronology unfolds throughout the next fourteen chapters that affords a view of human nature that is painfully honest, at times disturbing, and eventually uplifting as reconciliation with God and man is achieved.
This is a story of one man reaching out to God, his finding only walls and silence, and his acting out of an absolute sense of futility and frustration. Then, when least expected as that life finally seemed to come together with a notable measure of success as a commercial deep sea diver in the Gulf of Mexico, the real story of life begins. The reader gets a front row seat with an unobstructed view to see how a life plays out when a person first rejects and then ultimately receives spiritual light.

Commentaries On Genesis 1-3
$70.99Add to cartThe church fathers displayed considerable interest in the early chapters of Genesis, and often wrote detailed commentaries or preached series of homilies on the Hexameron–the Six Days of Creation–among them Eustathius of Antioch, Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, Theodore of Mopsuestia, Ambrose, John Chrysostom and Augustine. This volume of Ancient Christian Texts offers a first-time English translation of Severian of Gabala’s In cosmogoniam and a fresh translation of a portion of Bede the Venerable’s Libri quatuor in principium Genesis. Severian, bishop of Gabala in Syria, who early on was a friend of John Chrysostom, later turned against him and opposed him at the Synod of Oak in 403. Though displaying his own strengths, weaknesses and idiosyncrasies, Severian still represents the so-called Antiochene school with its preference for literal over allegorical interpretation of texts. The text derives from the critical edition found in Clavis patrum graecorum and has been ably translated with explanatory notes by Robert C. Hill. The commentary from Bede the Venerable derives from Book I of his four-book commentary on Genesis from the account of creation to the casting out of Ishmael. Bede was a polymath–teacher, computist, exegete, historian–and one of the foremost scholars from Anglo-Saxon England. As a teacher, Bede strove to hand on the tradition of the church in a form easily understood by those who might not be well educated. These early chapters in Genesis provided teaching on creation, human origins, sin and redemption. The text deriving from Corpus Christianorum Latina is ably translated with explanatory notes by Carmen Hardin.

This worldwide movement is seen as a radical expression of ecclesial community and was named in Mission Shaped Church as one of the leading new forms of church that would help people reconnect with Christianity. aaA new monastic community may be a dispersed group of families and individuals meeting to share meals and worship, it might be a group connected virtually; it might be a youth group exploring monastic spirituality. In this book, leaders of traditional religious communities and emerging ‘new monastic’ communities tell their stories and reflect on how an ancient expression of being church is inspiring and shaping a very new one.aaIncluded are many well-known contributors: Graham Cray, Tom Sine, Shane Claiborne, Ray Simpson, Abbot Stuart Burns and others exploring intentional liv

7 Years Of Silence The Book
$15.49Add to cartJacqueline Jackson loves the Lord and has a burning desire to please Him. She has worked in the health care field for more than fifteen years. She feels called to evangelize those whom God puts in proximity to her. Married for more than twenty years to the late Elder Leonard Jackson Sr., she is both a mother and a grandmother. She has sat on multiple planning committees and consumer advisory boards, and for the past seven years has been a planning committee member of a faith community outreach project sponsored by the state health department called On Common Ground.
While she was on bed rest one day, she was watching a TV program about feeding children in Africa. The program showed babies who were abandoned by parents infected with the HIV virus. The organization that sponsored the show had established houses for the abandoned babies called abandoned baby centers (ABCs). On the program, people talked about how the church kept silent concerning HIV/AIDS. As I lay in bed saddened by the babies I saw, I felt an indignation rise up inside of me. With a very pompous attitude, I muttered under my breath, “God, it’s a shame how the church has kept silent regarding this subject.” The Lord quickly replied, “Yes, you have remained silent for seven years.”
Unless the Lord had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

Countdown To The Last Day
$27.99Add to cartWhy does God mention the catching of 153 Great Fish in His Word, the Bible?
* Does the storm of Acts 27, in which 276 men were saved, show the duration of the Great Tribulation period of 8,400 days (276 months)?
* How does the example of Elijah calling fire down from Heaven upon the 2/3 (of the 153 men) relate to the 153 days of the End?
* Is the 153 days from May 21, 2011 to October 21, 2011 significant, since it ends on the Last Day of the Feast of Tabernacles, that Great Day?
* Will the houses of worship experience an overthrow similar to Christ expelling the moneychangers from the temple; is the overthrow of Sodom related to the overthrow of the fallen houses of worship?
* What comes forth from the bottomless pit during the final five months of history according to Revelation 9?
* Does God’s covenant with Day and Night allow salvation to continue to the last day?
* Since 1,000 years are as a day with the Lord, is the 7,000th anniversary of the flood in the year 2011 significant?
* What did the waters of Noah’s flood represent as they increased greatly and prevailed for 150 days?
* Why are the Biblical numbers 17, 19, 21, 23, 37, 42, 51, 84, 153 & 276 so important during the time of Great Tribulation and after?
* Is May 21, 2011 or October 21, 2011 the most likely time of the rapture?

Greatest Commandment : Matthew 22:31
$17.95Add to cartThe book is titled “The Greatest Commandment”, since it is the most important point of the book. (John 5:41-42) If you Love the Lord your God with all your Heart, Mind, Soul, then why is there a second law? The second law really displays the same principles as the first. This is why the first commandment is the greatest or most clear description of what God calls us to do. God is a Creator, and the law is a representation of how he builds. How do you Love the Lord your God with all your Soul, Heart, and Mind? Master the second law and the first law will become clearer.
The photo on the cover is symbolic to the laws by which we are governed, just like scriptures state that the law is the cornerstone of government. Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. (Ephesians 2:19-20) For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. (Isaiah 9:6)

Sacred Journey : The Ancient Practices
$18.99Add to cartHave Christians rejected pilgrimage?
The Israelites knew it. David knew it. The writer of Hebrews knew it. John Bunyan knew it. “Blessed are those whose strength is in You. They have set their hearts on pilgrimage.” (Psalm 84:5) We are strangers and pilgrims here. We’re passing through this world on a sacred journey to somewhere else. Charles Foster explores the approaching of each day as a pilgrimage-a chance to move one step closer to our ultimate goal and to even now experience tastes of that goal through prayerful awareness, study, and meditation.
Culling from his many journeys across the globe, Foster exhibits the very definition of pilgrimage: a journey to the most holy locations of our faith. This is at once both internal and external, and the author shows us how the two intersect.
A best-selling author and barrister in Oxford, Foster has spent much of his life testing the limits of human and spiritual endurance.
A volume in the eight book classic series, The Ancient Practices, with a foreword by Phyllis Tickle, General Editor.

Tithing : Test Me In This
$12.99Add to cartStories of people who live a generous and happy life (and why you’ll want to live that way too.)
Journalist Douglas LeBlanc travels the nation to talk with believers whose lives have been enriched by the ancient spiritual discipline of tithing. He discovers people along the way who do not understand the practice as an onerous law but as God’s call to a life of generosity and compassion. The effect on their lives is dramatic.
LeBlanc talks with a variety of believers-from a pastor in the south side of Chicago to progressive Episcopalians, from an Orthodox rabbi to an Eastern Orthodox priest and his wife. By holding their gifts with open hands, they are drawn deeper into a life of joy and sharing that begins in the very heart of God.

Liturgical Year : The Spiraling Adventure Of The Spiritual Life
$18.99Add to cartA journey of the soul through the map of Christian time. The liturgical year, beginning on the first Sunday of Advent and carrying through the following November, is the year that sets out to attune the life of the Christian to the life of Jesus, the Christ.
What may at first seem to be simply an arbitrary arrangement of ancient holy days, or liturgical seasons, this book explains their essential relationship to one another and their ongoing meaning to us today. It is an excursion into life from the Christian perspective, from the viewpoint of those who set out not only to follow Jesus but to live and think as Jesus did.
And it proposes to help us to year after year immerse ourselves into the sense and substance of the Christian life until, eventually, we become what we say we are-followers of Jesus all the way to the heart of God. It is an adventure in human growth; it is an exercise in spiritual ripening.

Barmen Theses Then And Now
$19.99Add to cartApplies a bold Christian stand against Nazi thinking to the issues of today
In 1934, the German Protestant Church faced strong attempts by Hitler’s Nazi regime to bring it into line with anti-Semitic and decidedly unbiblical ways of thinking. In defiant response, leaders in the church adopted the Barmen Declaration. This bold statement of dissent, grounded in the authority of Scripture, has become a powerful model for the contemporary confession of the Christian faith against modern forms of skepticism and unbelief.
Eberhard Busch here demonstrates to a new generation how the decisions of the German Protestant Church during a specific time of crisis can guide Christians today. He interprets each of the six theses in its original context – Nazi Germany – and then applies them to the cultural and political challenges facing Christianity in our time.

Sacrifice Of Africa
$24.99Add to cartDisplays the power of Christianity to unleash true political transformation in Africa
Christianity is rapidly expanding in Africa – but so also are the vexing realities of war, civil unrest, corruption and violence. What are the connections between these two faces of Africa? Can Christianity become the much-needed social force for a new future in Africa? How would such a future come about, and what would it look like?
These questions lie at the heart of The Sacrifice of Africa by Emmanuel Katongole. A Catholic priest from Uganda, born in 1960, who lived through the reign of Idi Amin and who has seen firsthand the problems that ravage his home country and its neighbors, Katonogole argues that recurring civil war, violence, corruption and instability are wired within the imaginative landscape of modern Africa, are set within the founding narratives of Africa’s inception into the modern world through colonialism and its successor institution, nation-state politics.
In the face of these entrenched political imaginations, the most critical social challenge is one of “daring to invent” the future through new foundational narratives that reflect and nurture a fresh, different vision for African politics and social life. This is the primary political difference that Christianity can make in Africa.
The stories of three African Christian leaders and their work – Bishop Paride Taban and the Holy Trinity Peace Village in Southern Sudan; Angelina Atyam in Uganda and the Concerned Parents Association in Uganda; and Maggie Barankitse and Maison Shalom in Burundi – cap off Katongole’s inspiring vision of hope for Africa.

This Introduction attempts to offer a different model for the discipline from that currently represented. It seeks to describe the form and function of the Hebrew Bible in its role as sacred scripture for Israel. It argues the case that the biblical literature has not been correctly understood or interpreted because its role as religious literature has not been correctly assessed. -

Show And Tell Cycle A
$14.95Add to cartIn each of Sunday’s assigned lectionary readings — The First, Second, and Gospel lessons — we are invited to view the glorious narrative of scripture through three different, yet harmonious, perspectives. In the first reading, the congregation returns to the heritage of our faith as described in the Old Testament, as well as in the New Testament book of Acts. We travel with the children of Israel as they take their first steps in faith, reliving the highs and lows of that journey with them. Through studying this part of scripture, we can see our own journey of faith played out by an entire nation.
Show-and-Tell guides us through some of the earliest accounts in the Bible in Genesis and Exodus, as well as the prophetic words of Isaiah and Ezekiel. During the Easter season, the first readings also explore the beginnings of Christianity as recounted in Acts. By taking us back to the beginning, Dr. Everett offers insight and encouragement into how we can live out our faith today.

3 Views On The Rapture
$22.99Add to cartThe rapture, or the belief that, at some point, Jesus’ living followers will join him forever while others do not, is an important but contested doctrine among evangelicals. Scholars generally hold one of three perspectives on the timing of and circumstances surrounding the rapture, all of which are presented in Three Views on the Rapture. The recent prominence of a Pre-Wrath understanding of the rapture calls for a fresh examination of this important but contested Christian belief. Alan D. Hultberg (PhD, Trinity International University and professor of New Testament at Talbot School of Theology) explains the Pre-Wrath view; Craig Blaising (PhD, Dallas Theological Seminary and president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary) defends the Pre-Tribulation view; and Douglas Moo (PhD, University of St. Andrews and professor of New Testament at Wheaton College) sets forth the Post-Tribulation view. Each author provides a substantive explanation of his position, which is critiqued by the other two authors. A thorough introduction gives a historical overview of the doctrine of the rapture and its effects on the church. The interactive and fair-minded format of the Counterpoints series allows readers to consider the strengths and weaknesses of each view and draw informed, personal conclusions.

Story Of Christianity 2
$27.99Add to cartTHE STORY OF CHRISTIANITY, VOLUME 2, is an informative, interesting, and consistently readable narrative history. Beginning with the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century, this second volume continues narrative history to the present. Historian Justo Gonzalez brings to life the people, dramatic events, and shaping ideas of Protestantism, Catholicism, and Orthodoxy during this period, keynoting crucial theological developments while providing fresh understanding of the social, political and economic forces that influenced the formation of the church. In particular, the author notes recurring themes of unrest, rebellion, and reformation. Gonzalez presents an illumination record of the lives, impelling ideas and achievements of such prominent figures as Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, and John Calvin-movers and shapers in the emerging Protestant church. His biographical insights, in conjunction with vivid historical accounts, reveal how individual lives mirror and clarify core theological concerns and developments. The interpretive overview of The Story of Christianity includes a thorough and timely analysis of the growth and maturation of Christianity, including events in Europe, the United States, and Latin America-the latter an area too often neglected in church histories, yet increasingly vital to an understanding of Christianity’s historical development, present situation, and future options. Gonzalez’s richly textured study discusses the changes and directions of the church in the traditions of Protestantism, Roman Catholicism, and Eastern Christianity. The Story of Christianity covers such recent occurrences as the World Council of Churches, the Second Vatican Council, the movement toward Christian unity, and much more. It concludes with a thoughtful look at the major issues and debates involving Christians today. The Story of Christianity will serve as a fascinating introduction to the panoramic history of Christianity for students and teachers of church history, for pastors, and for general readers.

Rethinking The Origins Of The Eucharist
$68.99Add to cartThe Eucharist is the central act of Christian worship. In this book Martin Stringer brings together some of the scholarship associated with the sociological analysis of biblical texts into conversation with liturgists and historians of the first century. He begins his analysis of the Eucharist and other early Christian meals from a detailed discussion of Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians, the most studied text in the sociological tradition of biblical scholarship. He proposes that the meal portrayed in chapter 11 of that letter is more likely to have been an annual event rather than a weekly one. He considers other texts, both biblical and those from the first hundred and fifty years or so of Christian history and shows that the Eucharist, that is a ritual event consisting of the sharing of bread and wine, which are associated by the community with the body and blood of Jesus, is most likely to have been an invention of the Asian or Roman church in around 100-110 CE. Martin D. Stringer is Professor of Liturgical an

Marxist Goliath Among Us
$20.99Add to cartMany believe America is secure and we are safe because communism is dead.
That prevailing supposition is delusive. Marxism is flourishing and no less venomous. Christianity and family are predicted to collapse, our freedom replaced with its tyranny. Jesus prophesied: “They will deliver you to tribulation and will kill you.” So did Lenin: “Destroy the family, you destroy the country.” Who are Marxism’s covert operatives?
* Ministers influenced by Marxist theology are helping create “Christian Socialism.” A church group supports Cuban spies in America and has financed communist movements.
* The unwanted, the burdens on society, are eliminated by euthanasia’s hired killers as “death with dignity.”
* Humanism, a powerful weapon in Marxism’s arsenal, promotes individualism and marital infidelity, insisting God is a mass “sociopathic killer.”
* Marxism endorses drug trafficking to destroy our culture.
* Planned Parenthood promotes youthful sex and disobedience to parental authority, protects pedophiles and offers abortion. It has advocated killing Christians.
* The Communist Party insists it is tolerant of, and cooperative with, Christianity, but it is no less atheistic.
* Jesus is being crucified with evil words and depictions his crowns of thorns on Marxism’s cross of decadence.
* Satanism is prospering with its death rituals and immorality because Karl Marx was a committed emissary of Satan. How can we rescue ourselves from this threat and save America? God tells us in His Word. We must confront the Marxist goliath, as David did, and annihilate it.

Words From The Heart
$10.99Add to cartA little about myself, I’m 54 years old. At an early age, I had my first child, a girl I named Tamika. Three years later, my second daughter, Rochelle and then five years later, I had my son I named Khalif. It was not an easy life, always looking for love and trying to find myself. My children have always been my life and now that they are older, I had to found what to do in life.
Well, I have the best thing in my life now. He is always there for me. He loves me even when I make mistakes. Every day, I try to empty myself to fill myself with His word. I no longer look for love in the world or try to find myself in it.
I love family outings, Christian plays and I love singing. Life is so much simpler now that I’m not running around trying to figure out what I should be doing. I’m listening to God. I am human and sometimes I make mistakes and He forgives me. The best time in my life was when I found my Savior.

Discovering Jesus : Why Four Gospels To Portray One Person
$16.99Add to cartAn introductory guide to the four Gospels, showing how each differs in what it emphasizes about the nature and ministry of Jesus Christ. If asked how Matthew’s Gospel differs from Luke’s, or what aspects of Jesus’ personhood and ministry the Gospel of Mark focuses on compared to those of John, how would you answer? In Discovering Jesus, T. D. Alexander sets out to help readers understand how each Gospel account is uniquely written and why all four are important for having a rich picture of the person of Jesus Christ. Alexander guides readers to see how the Gospels display Jesus as the Son of David who establishes the kingdom of God, the Son of God who suffers to ransom others, the Savior of the world who seeks the lost, and the Lamb of God who brings eternal life through a new exodus. Each chapter ends with discussion questions for individual or group study.

$63.99Add to cartUrban von Wahlde’s radically new, three-volume commentary on the Gospel and Letters of John is the most detailed study of the composition of the Johannine literature ever put forth by an American scholar.

Didache : A Window On The Earliest Christians (Reprinted)
$28.00Add to cartThe Didache (or The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles) is one of the earliest Christian writings, compiled and used from 50-70 CE before the four gospels became prevalent. Rather than preaching the good news about Jesus, it provides practical instructions on how a Christian community should function and offers a unique glimpse into how the earliest believers lived and worshipped.
Document expert O’Loughlin shares the story of this first-century manual for training converts from its discovery in an obscure library in Istanbul in the late nineteenth century to the present and then offers an analysis of the text’s importance. His new translation, along with a commentary, highlights areas of key interest to Christians today: the faith and hope, discipline and rituals, and anxieties and challenges facing Gentiles being trained for full participation in the earliest Jewish-Christian communities. The book concludes with a discussion of how the Didache relates to other early church texts, particularly the gospels, and gives answers to the most frequently asked questions about this fascinating and important treatise.
The Didache features a detailed description of the day-to-day faith and step-by-step routines that shaped the Jesus movement some twenty years after the death of Christ. The focus of the faction at that time was not on proclaiming the titles and deeds of Jesus. Those aspects come to the fore later in the letters of Paul and in the gospel narratives. Instead, the focus of the Didache was on the life and knowledge of Jesus himself.
O’Loughlin links the findings of historians, Scripture scholars, and liturgists to provide a clearly written, accessible work that will be helpful to students and pastors, as well as those searching for authenticity in Christian community.

Gospel And The Mind
$19.99Add to cartBy establishing central themes of the West’s Christian inheritance as the basis of the intellectual life, Green shows that any recovery of the life of the mind depends on a recovery of the gospel. History demonstrates that wherever the cross is planted, the academy follows. But history alone cannot demonstrate why this is-and must be-the case. Green engages theology and philosophy to prove that the Christian vision of God, mankind, and the world provides the necessary precondition for and enduring foundation of meaningful intellectual life. The Gospel and the Mind, deeply rooted in Augustinian and Reformed thought, shows that core principles of the West’s Christian inheritance-such as creation and the importance of history, the centrality of a telos to all things, and the logos and the value of words-form the matrix of any promising and sustainable intellectual life. More than a lament of the state of the evangelical mind or even an argument for the primacy of a Christian worldview, The Gospel and the Mind is a paradigm-shifting declaration that the life of the mind starts at the cross.

Ecology Of The New Testament
$28.99Add to cartIVP Print On Demand Title
God is the Creator of all and cares deeply for all that he has made. His vision for creation is seen through a world teeming with life where eternity is breathed into and through all creation. Jesus teaches that humans must live with a spirit of generosity and restraint; however, a spirit of meanness and greed dominates human culture and leaves nearly 1.3 billion people living on less than $1 a day.
The politics of globalization based on principles of greed have resulted in the loss of biodiversity, deforestation, and a shortage of food and clean water. Jesus teaches that those who are generous are blessed, and such generosity brings justice to all creation. There cannot be God’s social justice without ecological sanity, and yet we tend to speak of social justice as though non-human creation doesn’t matter. God cares even for the flowers of the field, yet we show contempt for God in our careless plunder of his creation. To love God is to love all that he has made, from our own families to the soil outside our homes.

Paul Hinlicky reads the history of the early church as a genuine, centuries-long theological struggle to make sense of the confession of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Protesting a recent parting of the ways between systematic theology and the history of early Christianity, Hinlicky relies on the insights of historical criticism to argue in this historical survey for the coherence of doctrinal development in the early church. Hinlicky contends that the Christian tradition shows evidence of being governed by a hermeneutic of “cross and resurrection.” In successive chapters he finds in the New Testament writings a collective Christological decision against docetism; in the union of Old and New Testaments, a monotheistic decision against Gnostic dualism; in the resulting sweep of the canon a narrative of the divine economy of salvation that posed a trinitarian alternative to Arian Unitarianism; and in the insistence upon the cross of the incarnate Son, a rebuke of Nestorianism. This book is written with the student of early Christianity and the development of doctrine in mind.

Trinity Practically Speaking
$26.99Add to cartThree Gods, or One, or Three-in-One?
Since the word Trinity does not appear in the Bible, many people wonder whether the doctrine is anything more than an intellectual puzzle created by theologians. This book takes readers on a guided tour of the logic leading to understanding God as a Trinity.
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in the Bible (and in Christian experience) are all vital to the reality of salvation. All three save. This point may not seem to be very significant until seen in the light of the basic premise of the entire Bible, namely, that only God can save (Hosea 13:4). There are benefits involved in understanding God as a communion of persons, a circle of love. God is no longer viewed as a distant judge removed from the sorrows of earthly existence. Salvation can be seen as more than mere forgiveness of sins. It also involves a life-transforming communion of divine love. A robust understanding of the Trinity fosters a more full and transformed Christian life.

Open The Sky
$17.49Add to cartOn September 1, 1991, bush pilot Dwayne King spearheaded one of the first missionary flights into the crumbling Soviet empire. The historic mission climaxed the transformation of a wild child from upstate New York into a selfless servant. The saga continues at Kingdom Air Corps, where he’s training the next generation of young missionaries to fly the Word beyond where the road ends and wilderness begins.
Award-winning journalist Mark Winheld, Dwayne’s friend and fellow traveler, spotlights the turning point. When Dwayne, a teenage hot-rodder, read Jungle Pilot-the story of missionary Nate Saint, martyred in Ecuador in 1956-his heart turned from drag-racing for fun to flying for God. From that moment on he followed a higher calling, armed only with faith, humor and chutzpah-and the reflexes that had kept him from wrecking cars on the hilly roads of home.
In “Open the Sky,” you’ll see, through Dwayne’s eyes, the ravages of loneliness and alcohol in the Alaskan bush. You’ll feel the courage of Russian believers surviving in the ruins of a destroyed civilization, given new hope by recent aviation freedoms. You’ll sense the forces that hammered a thrill-seeking adolescent into a mature servant who lives out the words he says and believes: “There’s only three things that are eternal. Only three. God, God’s Word, and people.”

Domestic violence is a leading cause of injury and death to women worldwide. Nearly one in four women around the globe is physically or sexually abused in her lifetime, and gender violence causes more death and disability among women aged 15 to 44 than cancer, malaria, traffic accidents or war. Regrettably, the church is not immune to this problem. Numerous studies suggest that incident rates among active churchgoers are nearly the same as those among the general populace. In this thoroughly revised and updated edition, Catherine Clark Kroeger and Nancy Nason-Clark share with readers a further ten years of experience in listening to the voices of women from around the world and especially to those within the church. They help us hear their cries and find concrete ways to respond so that no home will be a place of abuse.
In this immensely helpful guide you’ll find
true stories and updated statistics that illustrate the gravity and extent of the problem worldwide
a look at what Scripture says about domestic violence, including verbal abuse and patterns of concealment, secrecy and silence
a discussion of how proper concerns for Christian families can be twisted to endanger women and their children
an assessment of alternatives to suffering in silence in a threatening environment
new chapters on what churches can do and an introduction to the RAVE (Religion and Violence e-Learning) Project website, which provides a wide array of continually updated resourcesHere is a book for all who want to make a difference in women’s lives.

Discipleship Defined
$12.49Add to cartHow do we make disciples as Jesus intended?
DON’T read this book if you want to remain comfortable! Eric challenges us to consider what Biblical discipleship looks like based on what Jesus did. Eric writes this book with the integrity of a man who is not merely theorizing about the way things ought to be, rather he is
describing what is actually happening as he builds Biblical disciples in the context of the inner city. This book is soundly Biblical, challenging and practical. This book is about building disciples not programs.
