Grace Participants Guide (Student/Study Guide)
$14.99Add to cartGrace.
We talk as though we understand the term. The bank gives us a grace period. The seedy politician falls from grace. Musicians speak of a grace note. We describe an actress as gracious, a dancer as graceful. We use the word for hospitals, baby girls, kings, and premeal prayers. We talk as though we know what grace means.
But do we really understand it? Have we settled for wimpy grace? It politely occupies a phrase in a hymn, fits nicely on a church sign. Never causes trouble or demands a response. When asked, “Do you believe in grace?” who could say no?
Max Lucado asks a deeper question: Have you been changed by grace? Shaped by grace? Strengthened by grace? Emboldened by grace? Softened by grace? Snatched by the nape of your neck and shaken to your senses by grace?
God’s grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide, turn-you-upside-downness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. From insecure to God secure. From regret riddled to better-because-of-it. From afraid to die to ready to fly. Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off. Let’s make certain grace gets you.

*Controlling Spirits
*Generational Curses

Freedom Beyond Comprehension
$16.99Add to cartYou’ve prayed for deliverance and you’ve forgiven those who have hurt or abused you and yet you’re still nursing the painful wounds of your past. Does this describe your experience? Many Christians have suffered unspeakable trauma and wonder why they aren’t experiencing the freedom God has promised. The reason is that trauma goes deeper than the mind. It infiltrates the body at the cellular level, and only a deliverance that deals with the whole mind, soul, spirit, and body will treat the trauma and set you completely free. *Cursing cellular memory of rape and other forms of sexual abuse
*Replacing painful memories with positive thoughts
*Escaping the stress that wears you down
*Renewing your mind with the mind of Christ
*Forgiving those who have harmed you
*Learning to love yourself

Daddy Dates : Four Daughters One Clueless Dad And His Quest To Win Their He
$19.99Add to cartOne day motivational leader Greg Wright realized that the four set of pretty young eyes under his own roof were looking to Dad to be strong, fearless, and wise.
The reality was, the lone male in an all-girl household (“heck, even the dog was female”) was only thirty years old and felt like he had been shoved into the deep end of the estrogen pool without swimming lessons.
That’s when the love-struck father of four gorgeous pre-teens started searching for a plan for how to be a successful Dad, and did what any sensible guy would do. He bailed. Not only on his family, but into the woods, to seek a “solution.”
Daddy Dates is an entertaining and practical look at how one American father found his sea legs and is navigating through the tricky waters of parenting girls. In this game-changing book, Greg shares his easy-to-follow secrets for how married and single dads can go beyond high-fiving to bridge the gender gap and become the clued-in man who knows his daughter best.
Dads have more influence on their girls than anyone. Learn what makes your daughter tick, how to talk to her effectively and connect more profoundly, at any age.
If being their hero is your mission, it’s not impossible. Daddy Dates is your road map to get there.
“Hi honey. It’s Daddy. I’m calling to see if you’d like to go on a date with me tonight.”
“Um, yes, Daddy I think I would.”
It’s a phone call Greg Wright has made over and over again. By age thirty, Greg was the overwhelmed father of four beautiful little girls, with one thought running through his mind over and over again: Don’t Screw Up.
Daddy Dates is about a guy taking his best shot at being a successful dad by trying to know his girls-really know their fears, dreams, and opinions-and how he stumbled across an incredible strategy to do that with daughters of any age or stage. This funny, insightful, and relatable book poses the wildly original concept that should be a “duh” for most dads-but isn’t. In order to raise a confident woman-to-be, show your daughter what it feels like to be treated with love, respect, and true interest by a man who loves her.
Daddy Dates is not another “how to” book from a parenting expert. It’s a personal, eye-opening, often humorous look at an Average Joe’s intentional pursuit of his daughter’s hearts and minds, and the love-inspired steps he is taking to solidify Dad’s place in each of their lives, forever.
Whether married or single, Daddy Dates can help you

Eyes Of The Master
$11.95Add to cartAs the Bible is the book of preference for me, I began to wonder what brought the people in the Scriptures to the place where they met the Master. The stories mostly wrote themselves. The hardest person to write about was the demonic from Gadarene. How does a person become so demon-possessed? Why does Jesus say to some, stop sinning? What did they do? They were more than likely doing the same things we are doing today.

First and Second Peter, James, and Jude have existed on the edges of the canon throughout the centuries. She ably demonstrates that these “catholic epistles” have, in fact, much to offer to today’s readers.

My Mess Became My Message
$25.99Add to cartIn her compelling life story, My Mess Became My Message, Shalaunda “Shay” Nielsen shares the mess that once was her life in hopes that her story will be the benediction that leads someone to Christ. Once a stripper, lesbian, liar, fornicator, and adulterer, Shay lived a life that screamed “sin.” Hearts will drop as readers live through her delivering her stillborn son, witness worldly escapades, and fight demons that continue to haunt her. The same hearts will rejoice as they relive the moments where she dedicates her life to Christ, marries a man who is after God’s heart, and gives birth to her daughter. Two very different lives…lived by the same woman through the grace of God. As readers turn the pages they will watch the mess transform into a message. Shalaunda Nielsen, called Shay by those closest to her, is a wife, mother, daughter, visionary, and most importantly a woman of God. By age twenty-one Shay had seen more than most women twice her age, lived a life that paralleled the plot of an urban fiction novel, and sunk to her lowest low. She had compromised everything God intended her to stand for through lesbianism, stripping, and drug use. Yet in the midst of it all Shay felt God tugging at her heart and began to yearn for Him instead of worldly desires. She learned through a series of events that God is no shorter than His Word, and as a result today she is a sold-out Christian on a mission to allow her mess to be a message that will deliver other young women from the jaws of hell. Desert Fathers And Mothers
$21.99Add to cartWisdom from the very beginnings of
Christian monasticism can become a companion on your own spiritual journey. The desert fathers and mothers were ordinary Christians living in solitude in the deserts of Egypt, Palestine and Syria who chose to renounce the world in order to deliberately and individually follow God s call. They embraced lives of celibacy, labor, fasting, prayer, and poverty, believing that denouncing material goods and practicing stoic self-discipline would lead to unity with the Divine. Their spiritual practice formed the basis of Western monasticism and greatly influenced both Western and Eastern Christianity.
Their writings, first recorded in the fourth century, consist of spiritual advice, parables and anecdotes emphasizing the primacy of love and the purity of heart as essential to spiritual life and authentic communion with God. Focusing on key themes of charity, fortitude, lust, patience, prayer, self-control and visions, the Sayings influenced the rule of St. Benedict and have inspired centuries of opera, poetry and art.
Christine Valters Paintner, PhD, opens up wisdom of the desert fathers and mothers for readers with no previous knowledge of Western monasticism and early Christianity. She provides insightful yet unobtrusive commentary that describes historical background, explains the practice of asceticism and clarifies the ancient desert wisdom that will speak to your life today and energize your spiritual quest.

Who Is Jesus
$17.99Add to cartFrom the author of Discovering the Da Vinci Code, this new book is the result of a ten-year study that offers concrete evidence to reconcile the Jesus of history with the Christ of faith.
Most people agree that a man named Jesus lived in the first century in the historical regions surrounding Jerusalem. But what about the Jesus many believe to be the Son of God, the Savior of the World? How can anyone know anything about Him? Over the last decade, an international group of historical and biblical scholars met each year to investigate whether faith and history can be reconciled. The twelve scholars who conducted this study are members of the Institute for Biblical Research Jesus Group.
This prestigious group of scholars identified ten rules that they applied to key events, sayings, and teachings of Jesus to determine their authenticity. The most important of these rules is corroboration. Requiring corroboration means, for example, that most of the gospel of John is not usable in this study of Jesus, since up to 88 percent of it is singularly attested. But these scholars discovered that by applying these rules, they were able to reconstruct twelve key events in Jesus’ life purely on the basis of historical authenticity.
Who Is Jesus? is an evidence-based way to bridge the gap among science, history, and faith.

Andrew Paradigm : How To Be A Lead Follower Of Jesus
$16.99Add to cartThe current trend in church leadership involves looking for a highly gifted leader who will take over, direct the future, cast a vision, and attract the faithful to a new mission or purpose. This desire for a leader to come to the rescue is eerily reminiscenet of the desire of the Israelites for a king, so they could “be like every other nation.” In spite of Samuel’s warnings, the people insisted, so God reluctantly gave them King Saul. That didn’t go so well. While we always need good, new, and talented leaders, we also need leaders who know how and when to be good followers. Particularly in a culture of distrust, leadership must be granted, earned, and supported by those who are willing to follow. Leading begins with the counter-intuitive command: “Come, follow me.” This imperative is far from easy. Many turned away from Jesus, unable to follow. However, one excellent model of “followership” stood out from the rest – the little-known disciple Andrew. In fact, Andrew is the model and paradigm for being a Lead Follower. Excellent Christian leadership is more about following Jesus than it is about learning the latest fads or tricks from business, the marketplace, or the academy. Being an excellent Christian leader involves first and foremost being an excellent and faithful follower of Jesus Christ.

Dreams And Visions
$18.99Add to cartJesus appears to be revealing Himself to Muslims through powerful dreams and visions throughout the Islamic world today, and the results are dramatic.
Eleven years ago, Pastor Tom Doyle felt God calling him to leave the pastorate and become a full-time missionary in the Middle East and Central Asia. Through his extensive work in the region, which includes over 80 trips to places like Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt, Syria, Israel, Lebanon, and Turkey, Tom has met and recorded the stories of former Muslims who were first introduced to Jesus through either a dream or a vision that powerfully opened their hearts to become followers of Christ.
Though they live in the most dangerous places in the world for people who leave Islam and embrace Christ, their passion for the Savior is contagious and inspirational. These are never-before-told stories from the front lines of the world of Islam. Through these unexplained supernatural occurrences, more Muslims have become believers in the last ten years than in the last 15 centuries of Islam.
Why would God use dreams to reach the Muslim world?
Can dreams and visions be trusted? What happens after these people experience a dream or vision? In Dreams and Visions, Tom Doyle takes the reader deep into the heart of the Middle East to meet believers who have been directly touched by the very hand of God.

What does authentic Christian counseling look like in practice? This volume explores how five major perspectives on the interface of Christianity and psychology would each actually be applied in a clinical setting. Respected experts associated with each of the perspectives depict how to assess, conceptualize, counsel and offer aftercare to Jake, a hypothetical client with a variety of complex issues. In each case the contributors seek to explain how theory can translate into real-life counseling scenarios. This book builds on the framework of Eric L. Johnson’s Psychology & Christianity: Five Views. These include the Levels-of-Explanation Approach, the Integration Approach, the Christian Psychology Approach, the Transformational Approach and the Biblical Counseling Approach. While Christianity and Counseling can be used independently of Johnson’s volume, the two can also function as useful companions. Christians who counsel, both those in practice and those still in training, will be served by this volume as it strengthens the connections between theory and practice in relating our faith to the mental health disciplines. They will finally get an answer to their persistent but unanswered question: “What would that counseling view look like behind closed doors?” -
Short Term Mission
$35.99Add to cartOver the past few decades, short-term mission trips have exploded in popularity. With easy access to affordable air travel, millions of American Christians have journeyed internationally for ministry, service and evangelism. Short-term trips are praised for involving many in global mission but also critiqued for their limitations. Despite the diversity of destinations, certain universal commonalities emerge in how mission trip participants describe their experiences: “My eyes were opened to the world’s needs.” “They ministered to us more than we ministered to them.” “It changed my life.” Anthropologist Brian Howell explores the narrative shape of short-term mission (STM). Drawing on the anthropology of tourism and pilgrimage, he shows how STM combines these elements with Christian purposes of mission to create its own distinct narrative. He provides a careful historical survey of the development of STM and then offers an in-depth ethnographic study of a particular mission trip to the Dominican Republic. He explores how participants remember and interpret their experiences, and he unpacks the implications for how North American churches understand mission, grapple with poverty and relate to the larger global church. This groundbreaking book sheds light on how American Christians undertake short-term mission. It is important reading for all who celebrate or lament what happens when Christians travel overseas.

In the last century, more studies of the parables were produced than for any other section of comparable length in the Bible. The problem is that few students of the Bible have access to these studies. In this substantially new and expanded edition, Craig Blomberg surveys and evaluates the contemporary critical approaches to the parables–including those that have emerged in the twenty years since the first edition was published. The classic works of C. H. Dodd and Joachim Jeremias set the direction for nearly all further parable studies in this century. Embodied in both scholars’ approaches are at least two assumptions that, for the most part, have gone unchallenged: (1) Parables make one and only one main point. (2) Parables are not allegories. But can these assumptions be supported by the evidence? Challenging this view and making his own important new contribution to parable studies, Blomberg argues that within proper definitions and limits, the parables are in fact best seen as allegories. In support of this “minority report” concerning parable interpretation, Blomberg not only sets forth theoretical considerations but devotes attention to all the major parables, providing brief interpretations that highlight the insights to be gained from his distinctive method. -

Sabbath In The Suburbs
$19.99Add to cart“Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.” Yeah, right. Sabbath-keeping seems quaint in our 24/7, twenty-first century world. Life often feels impossibly full, what with work, to-do lists, kid activities, chores, and errands. And laundry… always and forever laundry.
But the Sabbath isn’t just one of the Ten Commandments; it is a delight that can transform the other six days of the week. Join one family’s quest to take Sabbath to heart and change their frenetic way of living by keeping a Sabbath day each week for one year. With lively and compelling prose, MaryAnn McKibben Dana documents their experiment with holy time as a guide for families of all shapes and sizes. Tips are included in each chapter to help make your own Sabbath experiment successful.
“Sabbath In the Suburbs is the beautiful story of one family’s decision to spend a year exploring the meaning of keeping Sabbath. It is a powerful affirmation of living a life that does not just manage time, but embraces the moment. MaryAnn McKibben Dana writes with elegance, clarity and humor about the family’s search for a creative and workable Sabbath framework, while pondering the transformative and restorative quality of rest. It is a luminous reflection with deep resonance in our culture of perpetual motion.”

Thomas And The Gospels
$42.99Add to cartThe Gospel of Thomas — found in 1945 — has been described as “without question the most significant Christian book discovered in modern times.” Often Thomas is seen as a special independent witness to the earliest phase of Christianity and as evidence for the now-popular view that this earliest phase was a dynamic time of great variety and diversity.
In contrast, Mark Goodacre makes the case that, instead of being an early, independent source, Thomas actually draws on the Synoptic Gospels as source material — not to provide a clear narrative, but to assemble an enigmatic collection of mysterious, pithy sayings to unnerve and affect the reader. Goodacre supports his argument with illuminating analyses and careful comparisons of Thomas with Matthew and Luke.

Apocalypticism In The Bible And Its World
$47.00Add to cartApocalypticism is not a specialized or peripheral topic in biblical studies. It represents the central, characteristic transformation of Hebrew thought in the period of the Second Temple. It therefore constituted the worldview of Jesus, Paul, and the earliest Christians, and it is the context in which the New Testament books were written. In this volume, Frederick Murphy defines apocalypticism while discussing its origins, where it comes into play in the Hebrew Bible, and how it relates to Jesus and the New Testament.

My Journey To Heaven (Reprinted)
$18.00Add to cartOn April 28, 2006, as he lay in his hospital bed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, visions of celestial beauty were the last thing on Marv Besteman’s mind. He had just had surgery to remove a rare pancreatic tumor. It was after visiting hours and his family had left for the day. Alone and racked with pain, Marv tossed and turned, wanting more than anything else to simply sleep and escape the misery and discomfort for a while. The retired banker, father, and grandfather had no idea he was about to get a short reprieve in the form of an experience he never could have imagined.
In My Journey to Heaven, Marv Bestman shares the story of his experience of heaven with astounding detail. Readers will hear of his encounters with angels who accompanied him to the gate, his conversation (argument, really) with St. Peter, and his recognition of friends and family members who touched his life. His story offers peace, comfort, and encouragement to those who have lost loved ones and gives security and solace to those who are grieving, dying, or wonder about the afterlife. Marv believed God sent him back to earth to fulfill this mission of comfort and reminds readers that God has work for each of us to do before he calls us to be with him in heaven. Secure in his belief that his book was the fulfillment of his own mission, Marv returned to heaven in January 2012.

John Wesleys Teachings Volume 1 (Revised)
$22.99Add to cartJohn Wesley’s Teaching is the first systematic exposition of John Wesley’s theology that is also faithful to Wesley’s own writings. Wesley was a prolific writer and commentator on Scripture—his collected works fill eighteen volumes—and yet it is commonly held that he was not systematic or consistent in his theology and teachings.
On the contrary, Thomas C. Oden demonstrates that Wesley displayed a remarkable degree of internal consistency over sixty years of preaching and ministry. This series of 4 volumes is a text-by-text guide to John Wesley’s teaching. It introduces Wesley’s thought on the basic tenets of Christian teaching: God, providence, and man (volume 1), Christ and salvation (volume 2), the practice of pastoral care (volume 3), and issues of ethics and society (volume 4).
In everyday modern English, Oden clarifies Wesley’s explicit intent and communicates his meaning clearly to a contemporary audience. Both lay and professional readers will find this series useful for devotional reading, moral reflection, sermon preparation, and for referencing Wesley’s opinions on a broad range of pressing issues of contemporary society.

If they were ignored or belittled, their self-esteem told them they were not worth any better treatment. My choices were predestined. Deafening Cadence Of Biblical Defection
$11.99Add to cartThe Deafening Cadence of Biblical Defection is more than a revelation of personal encounter. It is a written observation of the world, not as I see it, but as it truly is. Each chapter is a true-to-life account surrounding some of the most troublesome historicity of the Christian Church, all the way up to the more menacing tentacles of the anti-Christian movement in America. Of particular mention are the biased leftist media, inaccurate political propaganda from the film industry, the selling of militant humanism in our schools, political correctness, and a liberal court system that finds it appropriate to assist and legitimize Scriptural abominations into law.
Showing little regard for the Word of God, these anti-Christian agencies have become a menacing, parasitic force tearing at the very fabric of Christian ideology and the moral stability of America. The question is, what kind of world will we assign to the next generation if man’s self-serving, immoral inequities are the measuring tool that represents final authority? Important to this work is the presentation of the one true God as delineated throughout the Old and New Testament. It is by this method understanding and resolutions for conceptual issues in this book emerge. In the end, the book answers one of the most reigning questions corroborated throughout each chapter, and that is, can Christianity as we know it survive in a society that vilifies anything that represents Christian symbolic ideology?

John Ploughmans Talks
$14.99Add to cartEveryday advice based on biblical faith
Charles Spurgeon’s success as a legendary preacher and author was generated from his intense love and concern for “working people.” In John Ploughman’s Talks, Spurgeon assumes the persona of a simple ploughman to dispense advice and address serious moral issues in the language of the common man. Spurgeon’s homespun humor and rustic illustrations reflect on a variety of issues, such as idleness, grumbling, appearance, patience, gossiping, debt, spending, family, hope, and much more.
In Spurgeon’s words, “That I have written in a semi-humorous vein needs no apology, since thereby sound moral teaching has gained a hearing….There is no particular virtue in being seriously unreadable.”
In the tradition of John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress, Spurgeon’s tale is destined to be enjoyed for generations by people of all ages and backgrounds.

Violence Of Scripture
$29.00Add to cartNo one can read far in the Old Testament without encountering numerous acts of violence that are sanctioned in the text and attributed to both God and humans. Over the years, these texts have been used to justify all sorts of violence: from colonizing people and justifying warfare, to sanctioning violence against women and children. For those who read the Bible as Scripture, these depictions of “virtuous” violence pose tremendous moral and theological challenges. What can be done to stop people from using the Old Testament in such destructive ways, and how might these violent texts be read more faithfully?
Eric Seibert faces these challenges head-on by confronting the problem of “virtuous” violence and urging people to engage in an ethically responsible reading of these troublesome texts. He offers a variety of reading strategies designed to critique textually sanctioned violence, while still finding ways to use even the most difficult texts constructively, thus providing a desperately needed approach to the violence of Scripture that can help us live more peaceably in a world plagued by religious violence.

Caring Liturgies : The Pastoral Power Of Christian Liturgy
$24.00Add to cartCaregiving practices in churches often center around listening and giving counsel, making referrals, and creating support groups for specific needs. In Caring Liturgies, Susan Marie Smith proposes that Christian ritual is both a method and a means for helping people through liminal times of transition and uncertainty, even vulnerability and fear. It teaches readers to recognize the ritual needs of fellow Christians and thus create post-baptismal rites of passage and healing that might strengthen and support them in the fulfillment of their ministries.
The book extends the usefulness of denominational “occasional services” books and other resources by suggesting ways to build a rite around a central symbolic action, pointing out issues of ritual honesty and ethics, and identifying skills and attributes necessary to preparing and leading a rite. Numerous narrative examples help to flesh out the principles and illustrate the key argument: that rituals are necessary means to enable human growth and maturity, both through times of suffering and times of transition, and that ritual-making leaders are central to the ongoing health of the church.

My Personal Journal
$17.49Add to cartIt comes as no surprise to anyone who writes journals, that finding previous journal entries is difficult, even if the notebook can be found in which the entries were made. Michael, in a moment of insight, saw some simple additions that would make searching for journal entries easy to do. The My Personal Journal is designed with indexing to organize your journaling. This is explained in the How to Use the My Personal Journal section in the book. Michael has been using this system for seven years in a loose leaf notebook. As he explains, he was prompted by the Lord, to bring this new way of journal organization to the journaling public, as an investment in bringing order to an often disorderly practice of journaling. This journal is also available in an eBook format at My-Personal-Journal.com. Michael L Kuhn is a husband and father of three wonderful young people with his life-partner and wife of 32 years, Trisha. Whether skiing with his sons (Mike and Erik) or preparing for a hike into the wilderness with the family including daughter Krista, family times lend themselves to writing an entry into a journal. Michael owes his passion for the outdoors to his time in Boy Scouts in Canada and Arizona. As a father of two high energy sons, joining Boy Scouts was a natural course as the church they attended had a strong Boy Scout Troop. Michael became Scout Master and led young men on many exciting outdoor adventures including a 30-mile Llama – Backpacking trek into the Colorado wilderness. Serving the Lord in such close and personal life adventures has been a highlight for Michael. And recording these events in journals has been an important part of these experiences.

Land Between : Finding God In Difficult Transitions
$18.99Add to cartAuthor Jeff Manion uses the biblical story of the Israelite’s journey through the Sinai desert as a metaphor for being in an undesired time of transition. After enduring generations of slavery in Egypt, the descendants of Jacob travel through the desert (the land between) toward their new home in Canaan. They crave the food of their former home in Egypt and despise their present environment. They are unable to go back and incapable of moving forward. Their reactions provide insight and guidance on how to respond to God during our own seasons of difficult transition. The Land Between provides fresh biblical insight for people traveling through undesired and difficult transitions such as foreclosure, unemployment, uncertainty, and failure. Such times provide our greatest opportunity for spiritual growth. God desires to meet us in our chaos and emotional upheaval, and he intends for us to encounter his goodness and provision, his hope and guidance.

In The Eye Of The Storm
$19.99Add to cartOne day in the life of Christ.
Call it a tapestry of turmoil: A noisy pictorial in which the golden threads of triumph knot against the black, frazzled strings of tragedy.
Call it a symphony of emotions: A sunrise-to-sunset orchestration of extremes. One score is brassy with exuberance — the next moans with sorrow. Whatever you call it — call it real. Author Max Lucado calls it “the second most stressful day in the life of our Savior.” Before the morning becomes evening Jesus has reason to weep, then run, then shout, the curse, then praise, then doubt. Within a matter of moments his world is turned upside down. Sound familiar? The pink slip comes. The doctor calls. The divorce papers arrive. The check bounces. The life that had been calm is now chaotic. The world that had been serene is now stormy. Assailed by doubts. Pummeled by demands. If you’ve ever wondered if God in heaven can relate to you on earth, then read and re-read this pressure-packed day in the life of Christ. It is the only day, aside from the crucifixion, that all four gospels recorded. Lucado has interwoven their accounts in such a way that you will be assured that God knows how you feel.
And you will be assured that within every torrent there is a calm center — a place you can stand when your world gets windy. The Eye of the Storm.

Art Of Neighboring (Reprinted)
$16.99Add to cartOnce upon a time, people knew their neighbors. They talked to them, had cook-outs with them, and went to church with them. In our time of unprecedented mobility and increasing isolationism, it’s hard to make lasting connections with those who live right outside our front door. We have hundreds of “friends” through online social networking, but we often don’t even know the full name of the person who lives right next door.
This unique and inspiring book asks the question: What is the most loving thing I can do for the people who live on my street or in my apartment building? Through compelling true stories of lives impacted, the authors show readers how to create genuine friendships with the people who live in closest proximity to them. Discussion questions at the end of each chapter make this book perfect for small groups or individual study.

Despite the return of the Hebrews from the Babylonian exile, selfishness, apathy and despair crippled their community spirit. In response to this distress, God raised up three prophetic voices in Jerusalem. Haggai rallied the people to rebuild the Second Temple. Zechariah was given visions of the return of the glory of the Lord to Zion. Malachi preached repentance, covenant justice and restoration of proper temple worship. Andrew Hill’s excellent commentary on these oracles shows how they remain timely for the Christian church’s worship and mission in the world. -
Bible Made Impossible
$26.00Add to cartBiblicism, an approach to the Bible common among some American evangelicals, emphasizes together the Bible’s exclusive authority, infallibility, clarity, self-sufficiency, internal consistency, self-evident meaning, and universal applicability. Acclaimed sociologist Christian Smith argues that this approach is misguided and unable to live up to its own claims. If evangelical biblicism worked as its proponents say it should, there would not be the vast variety of interpretive differences that biblicists themselves reach when they actually read and interpret the Bible. Far from challenging the inspiration and authority of Scripture, Smith critiques a particular rendering of it, encouraging evangelicals to seek a more responsible, coherent, and defensible approach to biblical authority.
This important book has generated lively discussion and debate. The paperback edition adds a new chapter responding to the conversation that the cloth edition has sparked.

Will The Real Church Please Stand Up
$16.95Add to cartIn this challenging and thought-provoking book, author James David Montgomery points out that although churches dot almost every street corner in America, many have strayed from God’s original design. He believes too many churches today stand in stark contrast to the first century church that turned the world upside down. Rev. Montgomery calls on Christians of every denomination to return to their roots and rediscover what made the early church great. He reminds us of the building-shaking, great-grace, fear-of-God-preaching, Pharisee-defying, souls-added-to-the-church-daily explosions of God’s glory in the book of Acts.

There are some things we just don’t talk about. Things like sex, particularly when our sexuality is a matter of personal struggle. Things like the vulnerabilities of our pastors, who must maintain a faade not merely of respectability but of moral and psychological superiority. We don’t talk about things that make us feel insecure, that make us feel unsettled. But the nature of spiritual growth, even the story of Christian faith, is a matter of being unsettled from the comfortable compromises we’ve made and set on a course together toward wholeness and mutually supportive community. Tom Ryan takes us on an unsettling journey through his lifelong struggle with sexual addiction, one that predated and pervaded his pastoral ministry-one which for far too long he faced in secrecy and isolation, separated from the brothers and sisters in Christ who were called to bear one another’s burdens. Ashamed No More doesn’t cast blame or argue for looser moral standards. It does, however, call us to the unsettling ministry that a God who is love calls us to-the unsettling grace that is the audacious gospel of Christ. -

Squanto And The Miracle Of Thanksgiving
$8.99Add to cartExperience the true story from American history about the spiritual roots and historical beginnings of Thanksgiving.
This entertaining and historical story shows that the actual hero of Thanksgiving was neither white nor Indian but God. In 1608, English traders came to Massachusetts and captured a twelve-year-old Indian, Squanto, and sold him into slavery. He was raised by Christians and taught faith in God. Ten years later he was sent home to America. Upon arrival, he learned an epidemic had wiped out his entire village. But God had plans for Squanto. God delivered a Thanksgiving miracle: an English-speaking Indian living in the exact place where the Pilgrims landed in a strange new world.

Unglued : Making Wise Choices In The Midst Of Raw Emotions
$19.99Add to cartRaw emotions are those feelings we hide from others but take out on those we love most. We may exhibit patience and kindness when talking with the grocery clerk, a co-worker, even the difficult person at the returns counter; but, at home, sometimes the smallest, most trivial things set women off, sparking an angry word, cruel comment behind someone’s back, or a flood of tears.
All women experience these ‘unglued feelings’ at times, often when they least expect it. These emotions are not wrong, in fact they are God-given. However, our emotions should be indicators not dictators. Each experience is an opportunity to either fall back into patterns that make us wallow in guilt or chose more wisely and make progress.
TerKeurst equips women with spiritual strategies to help them manage their reactions. It’s one thing to tell a woman to control her feelings but a whole new kind of help to show her step by step how to let this situation work for her rather than against her.

North American families are in crisis, and the need for family ministry is more evident than ever. In her many years of ministry, research and teaching, author Diana Garland has found that the strength of Christian families is rooted in their faith and nurtured in their congregations. Garland believes that Christian families gain strength in part because of their communities of faith. Twelve years after first coming to print, the award-winning Family Ministry has been given a significant makeover. In this new edition Garland takes a three-pronged approach to family ministry, which includes developing families grounded in Christian faith, helping families live the teachings of Jesus with one another, and equipping and supporting families as they learn to serve others. The insights gained are organized into four main sections: The Context for Family MinistryFamily FormationFamily DynamicsLeading Family Ministry Garland examines and fully integrates the historical, sociological, theological and biblical contexts to understand the role and meaning of family in the life of Christians and the church. She perceptively connects these explorations with the social and cultural context of the early twenty-first century.
Now revised and updated throughout, Diana Garland’s core text for ministers and others in the helping professions provides a comprehensive look at the Christian purpose of family and the complex world our families inhabit -
