Derailed : Five Lessons Learned From Catastrophic Failures Of Leadership
$18.99Add to cartWhat causes a leader to fail? What can we learn from those who have fallen? How do we avoid failure of our own?
These are just a few of the questions answered in Derailed: 5 Lessons Learned from Catastrophic Failures of Leadership, a book for leaders and aspiring leaders of all levels by Tim Irwin, Ph.D. Derailed chronicles the collapse of six high-profile CEOs, the factors that drove their downfalls, and the lessons that we can learn to stay on track and avoid derailing our own lives and careers.
The story of the fallen CEO has become a cultural fixture: veering off course with the force of a train careening off its tracks, leaving fiery wreckage and devastating injury throughout the organization. These executives are often the smartest and most respected individuals in their industries, with glittering resumes and histories of successful leadership. Yet they astonish us by driving the train dramatically off course, blinded by unchecked power and arrogance.
Dr. Tim Irwin believes that these leaders suffer from failures of character that are common to each of us–even the most capable individuals. Deficits in authenticity, humility, self-management, and courage become more dangerous as we take on more leadership, and can cause us to ignore glaring signals that might otherwise save us from catastrophic demise. Derailed profiles the collapse of six high-profile CEOs (Robert Nardelli – Home Depot, Carly Fiorina – HP, Durk Jager – Proctor and Gamble, Steven Heyer – Starwood Hotels, Frank Raines – Fannie Mae, Dick Fuld – Lehman Brothers) and the factors that drove their downfalls, finding that derailment actually happens long before the crash and can be avoided. Derailed explains the character qualities that are essential for successful leadership and how to cultivate them so that we can avoid being derailed.

Year With G K Chesterton
$19.99Add to cartPull a comfy chair up to a warm hearth and enjoy 365 daily offerings of wit and wisdom from G. K. Chesterton.
A Year with G.K. Chesterton gives one the feeling of being welcomed to an inn where a fire blazes in the hearth and a hearty meal awaits. Chesterton bids readers enter. Scarcely anything worthy of comment seems to have escaped Chesterton’s notice, and his reflections on all manner of subjects-faith, literature, the visual arts, or philosophy-are as trenchant and moving as they are wise.
People walked to places in Chesterton’s day and took their time over things in ways that reveal what we have lost in our constant rush to get to who-knows-where with ever-increasing speed. Chesterton reminds us that it is well worth consulting a map of the cosmos before a swift departure from the station.
Those who read one passage a day from the collection that follows will be glad of the chance to keep company with so thoughtful a friend as Chesterton. The recurring themes of his writing are so many boon companions-travelers well met as we journey to the far country-the place where things we now see in twilight will become reality in the swift sunrise of God’s making.

Dancing With Death
$16.49Add to cartIn a small North Texas town a family is devastated when their son is diagnosed with a life-threatening heart disease. In the lowest time of their lives, God works through
Michael Jordan, Derek Harper, Coach Grant Teaff, Dino, Joe Montana, J. D. Hill, a camel, and the local community to give strength and support to the Martin family. Dancing with Death illustrates the power of faith, hope, love, Christian friends, and family.
The authors’ details are gripping. Readers will feel a bond with the authors through reading about their inner feelings. The Martin’s bravely make themselves vulnerable to their audience, even including such questions as, “God, don’t you think we’ve been through enough?” It’s a question we all ask in our minds but are usually too intimidated to say aloud. Things like this make the book unique, touching and very valuable reading for everyone.
The authors give God credit, glory and praise throughout the book, terrifically conveying how God was with them every step of the way.

Acharit Hayamim Doomsday
$28.99Add to cartOne night in March 2012, the Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit) aroused me from sleep and told me to write a book about acharit-hayamim, which means end-times in Hebrew. I am a Messianic Jew. The Ruach HaKodesh has been leading me to scriptures about the acharit-hayamim for many months prior to giving me this message. As always, I did not question the Ruach HaKodesh. I must be obedient to the Holy One of Isra’el! Miraculously, I completed this book in three weeks with the guidance of the Ruach HaKodesh. The Ruach HaKodesh was with me the entire time. I give all praise and glory to the Holy One of Isra’el, who is the only true living G-d. Without the Holy One of Isra’el I can do nothing. I am just a worm of a vessel who will return to the dust of the ground. Hallelu-YAH!

As a result of the near-death experiences of many congregations today, denominational leaders are looking for ways to revitalize churches. The act of revitalization often starts with the assumption that what was once vital can be vital again, if church leaders simply do the same better. So congregations increase programs, budgets, and formulas. They look back in time, trying to recapture a period when the church’s role in society was vital. A church seeking revitalization typically does more of the same, but faster. However, the central story of faith is the story of both death and resurrection. Followers of Christ like to live out the resurrection part of their faith, but they often aren’t very comfortable dealing with what must come before resurrection – death. The church must be willing to live out its entire story, from beginning to end.
The church needs to trust the idea that God brings to life what God wants to. This book suggests shifting away from the language of revitalization toward the story of death and resurrection. Escobedo-Frank focuses on ten specific “re-” words to outline a strategy for dying and resurrecting again – for restarting the church.

$21.99Add to cartDon’t Let Anger Take Control!
Most people stereotype anger by assuming that it always results in shouting, slamming fists, or throwing things. However, anger is not that one-dimensional.
In fact, all of the statements below represent feelings of anger:
When I am displeased with someone I shut down any communication and withdraw.
I get very tense inside as I tackle a demanding task.
I feel frustrated when i see someone else having fewer struggles than I.
There are times when my discouragement just makes me want to call it quits.
I can be quite aggressive in my business pursuits or even when just playing a game.We all deal with anger in our lives, whether it be in a subtle or violent manner. Being angry can involve such emotional expressions as frustration, irritability, annoyance, aggravation, blowing off steam, or fretting.
The good news is anger can be managed. In The Anger Workbook Les Carter, Ph.D., and Frank Minirth, M.D., offer a unique 13-step interactive program that will help you:
Identify the best ways to handle anger
Understand how pride, fear, loneliness, and inferiority feed your anger
Uncover and eliminate the myths that perpetuate anger-“Letting go of my anger means I am conceding defeat” or “No one understand my unique problems.”
Identify learned patterns or relating, thinking, and behaving in your life that influence your anger. -

I am putting my words as a fire in your mouth; these people are tender and it will consume them. (Jeremiah 5:14) In the book of Jeremiah, the vocabulary of “word” and “words” is not only uniquely prevalent, but formulae marking divine speech also play an unprecedented role in giving the book’s final form its narrative and theological shape. Indeed, “the word of the Lord” is arguably the main character, and a theology that is both distinctive and powerful can be seen to emerge from the unfolding narrative. In this stimulating study, Andrew Shead examines Jeremiah’s use of word language; the prophet’s formation as an embodiment of the word of God; his covenant preaching and the crisis it precipitates concerning the recognition of true prophecy; and, in the “oracles of hope,” how the power of the word of God is finally made manifest. Shead then brings this reading of Jeremiah to bear on some issues in contemporary theology, including the problem of divine agency and the doctrine of Scripture, and concludes by engaging Jeremiah’s doctrine of the Word of God in conversation with Karl Barth. The prophet’s major contribution emerges from his careful differentiation of “word” and “words.” -
Resurrection City : A Theology Of Improvisation
$28.99Add to cartIn Resurrection City Peter Heltzel paints a prophetic picture of an evangelical Christianity that eschews a majority mentality and instead fights against racism, inequality, and injustice, embracing the concerns of the poor and marginalized, just as Jesus did. Placing society’s needs front and center, Heltzel calls for radical change and collective activism modeled on God’s love and justice. In particular, Heltzel explores the social forms that love and justice can take as religious communities join together to build “beloved cities.” He proclaims the importance of “improvising for justice” — likening the church’s prophetic ministry to jazz music — and develops a biblical theology of shalom justice. His vision draws inspiration from the black freedom struggle and the lives of Sojourner Truth, Howard Thurman, and Martin Luther King Jr. Pulsing with hope and beauty, Resurrection City compels evangelical Christians to begin “a global movement for love and justice” that truly embodies the kingdom of God.

Charismatic Theology Of Saint Luke (Reprinted)
$22.00Add to cartWhat is the meaning of the Holy Spirit’s activity in Luke-Acts, and what are its implications for today? Roger Stronstad offers a cogent and thought-provoking study of Luke as a charismatic theologian whose understanding of the Spirit was shaped wholly by his understanding of Jesus and the nature of the early church. Stronstad locates Luke’s pneumatology in the historical background of Judaism and views Luke as an independent theologian who makes a unique contribution to the pneumatology of the New Testament. This work challenges traditional Protestants to reexamine the impact of Pentecost and explores the Spirit’s role in equipping God’s people for the unfinished task of mission. The second edition has been revised and updated throughout and includes a new foreword by Mark Allan Powell.

Reading The Gospels Wisely (Reprinted)
$30.00Add to cartThis textbook on how to read the Gospels well can stand on its own as a guide to reading this New Testament genre as Scripture. It is also ideally suited to serve as a supplemental text to more conventional textbooks that discuss each Gospel systematically. Most textbooks tend to introduce students to historical-critical concerns but may be less adequate for showing how the Gospel narratives, read as Scripture within the canonical framework of the entire New Testament and the whole Bible, yield material for theological reflection and moral edification.
Pennington neither dismisses nor duplicates the results of current historical-critical work on the Gospels as historical sources. Rather, he offers critically aware and hermeneutically intelligent instruction in reading the Gospels in order to hear their witness to Christ in a way that supports Christian application and proclamation.

Fearless Daughters Of The Bible (Reprinted)
$15.00Add to cartChristian women are often led to believe they are God’s afterthoughts–as if they were created inferior to men or destined by God to play a secondary role in life. Not so, says bestselling author J. Lee Grady, father of four daughters and a leading international voice confronting the abuse of women. He counters that the Bible’s message is neither sexist nor patronizing.
Through sharing the lives of mold-breaking biblical women, Grady shows how God enables his daughters to do amazing, even impossible things. He also reveals the empowering, yet often-overlooked, gifts God longs to give each of his daughters–gifts like wisdom, fruitfulness, leadership, family, and boldness. When women learn to receive each of these, and more, as a divine inheritance, they will live the fearless and beautiful lives of purpose God desires for them.

Is There A Future For Gods Love
$25.99Add to cartHistorically, evangelical theology has been committed to revealed truth. However, can that commitment still function in a world that tends to be averse to truth claims and often resistant to authority?
In addition to revealed truth, evangelicalism has always insisted on a direct, personal encounter with God in Christ and on personal involvement in God’s mission to redeem the world. How does evangelical Christianity’s understanding of a loving God fit in a world suspicious of any claim to a normative enounter with the divine? How can one answer the call to love and serve in God’s name when all such calls are often viewed as inherently intolerant?
Henry H. Knight III wrestles with these and other questions as he explores the ways that evangelical Christians can prayerfully practice spiritual discernment while also contextualizing the gospel in order to practice their faith effectively without compromise.

Spirit Hunger : Filling Our Deep Longing To Connect With God
$18.99Add to cartWe all have a desperate need for God — not just for following him or being committed to him, but to be intimately connected to him. We long for purpose, for affirmation, for attention, for nurture. But Gari Meacham writes that we fall short of being desperate for God, or we miss the longed-for romance with God we hear about in scripture.andnbsp; We’re uncertain how to distinguish our longings from our fears.andnbsp; When, says Meacham, did our longings turn to hauntings? And when did we buy into the counterfeit yearnings for control, and the insecurity, perfectionism and other attitudes that quench Spirit Hunger? The answer to Spirit Hunger is to engage God like never before. In this book Meacham shows through her story and the stories of others how to turn worry into belief, problems and heartaches into a life of intimate prayer, and sighs for intimacy into closeness with God.andnbsp; She discusses her discoveries about prayer including why asking is sometimes hard, how we can notice and track God’s movements as we seek his answers, and why it’s sometimes such a struggle to believe after we’ve prayed. Meacham writes, ‘With the authenticity of my own life stories—marriage to a professional baseball player, struggles with severe food bondage, and a father who was a quadriplegic—I came to the crisp realization that my prayer life and my belief needed to match. Spirit Hunger provides a clear path towards matching these heart cries—leading away from crumbs and counterfeit, to a hungering for God.’

LEGO Principle : The Power Of Connecting To God And One Another
$18.99Add to cartAn urgent call for the people of God to return to the lost art of making disciples.
Christ’s instructions to His disciples were very clear: “Go and make disciples of all nations.” Yet, when asked for a one-word response to the question: “What is the business that the church represents,” few people can respond. Unlike Starbucks and coffee, Toyota and cars, or Rolex and watches, the church is having a hard time figuring out what its “one word” is. This book will direct people back to the mandate of Christ for His church-discipleship.
Following the lead of LEGO, a company that has been responsible for transforming the way people play, learn, think, and enjoy for more than fifty years, this book provides simple lessons showing how to disciple your city and nation one person at a time. It shows that discipleship is about connecting with God and with one another. Discipleship is relationship.
Joey includes anecdotal stories that illustrate the principles, and these stories are presented in a style that will reach every person in every pew-and those who never sit in a pew! It is relational, warm and compassionate, and organic, not program based. Best of all, it activates the reader to do what Jesus said to do-go and make disciples.

Miracles In The Trash
$24.95Add to cartA mother’s womb has become the most dangerous place in the world. Innocent life is not to be relegated to the trash cans of the world. In this musical, God wants to bring humanity back into the embrace of his divine love, a humanity that has boldly stepped onto the pathway of its annihilation, through the catalysts of abortion and homosexuality. Truth has the ability to change hearts and minds, and God is truth.
A beautiful, unique life is to be cherished and cared for because it is the most precious of gifts from the creative heart of God. What if Mary had aborted Jesus, the Son of God? In this play, she does and is punished by God with a life that never ends. After Jesus is aborted and has resumed his heavenly state, he is torn between the love that he has for his mother and his Father, who seeks to have his mother tried in a court of law for the murder of his Son, and thus the Church of God.
This play sets the stage for the unthinkable and unravels the answers to the controversial questions surrounding a woman’s decision to abort her miracle, a gift from the love and very heart of God. Miracles in the Trash portrays abortion from God’s perspective, and his boundless love for each individual life he has created, revealing that life begins in the heart and mind of God, and that he knows who we are before we are even conceived. Biblical references support that fact. If we believe that God is all-knowing, then it leads to only one conclusion, that he knew who we were before our mother even met our father.

$15.99Add to cartDebra Brewer decided to serve God by becoming a travel nurse in order to make something positive of her life after family devastation generated a crisis of faith. She found enjoyment in the adventure of new places and work situations. But when she decided to take an assignment on a tiny island in Alaska, a series of events began to unfold that brought healing and hope. The author, Debra Graem, wrote these stories during the long winters that she spent in Alaska after going there as a travel nurse. This book is intended to display examples of the way that God fashions his children into lovely jewels that reflect the image of His Son. Sometimes this happens with hammer of dreadful events that we all face sometime in our journey. Sometimes it happens through the chipping daily grind of an ordinary routine. The lovely result pleases the Father and brings joy to the soul of the polished stone. The character in this book is a work in progress toward that goal.

Terrible Speed Of Mercy
$18.99Add to cartFlannery O’Connor’s fiction is a reminder that the rural South is as good a place as any for transcendence to break through and reveal itself to the human gaze.
The story of Flannery O’Connor’s life is the story of her inner life more than her outer life. In a letter to a friend she wrote, “My audience are the people who think God is dead. At least these are the people I am conscious of writing for.” And writing for such a people required that she find a whole new language, a language she had to make up as she went along, drawing startling and large figures to get the attention of the almost blind, shouting in the ear of the almost deaf.
Her famous short story A Good Man Is Hard to Find was once called “profane, blasphemous, and outrageous,” but for O’Connor, the real horror was never violence or deformity, but damnation. Horror that awakens a soul to its own danger and prepares it to receive grace is no horror, but a mercy. “The devil,” she wrote, “accomplishes a good deal of groundwork that seems to be necessary before grace is effective.”
In The Terrible Speed of Mercy Jonathan Rogers chronicles how a conventional, devout middle-class lady from a dairy farm in Milledgeville, Georgia, came to write stories that were like literary thunderstorms, turning on sudden violence and flashes of revelation that crashed down from the heavens, destroying even as they illuminated.

UnLeader : Reimagining Leadership And Why We Must
$14.99Add to cartThe last thing you need is another book on leadership. So how is UnLeader different?
Leadership-centric conversations dominate the contemporary evangelical church scene. The largest church leadership conferences each year include talks from corporate business executives and world famous CEOs. We are drilled with the message that if it worked for them it will work for the church.
There is one overwhelming problem. Jesus himself is not our first choice when it comes to who we model ourselves after as leaders. Many times the life of Jesus directly contradicts much of what is being imported into the church under the mantra of effective leadership.
This book is not about eliminating leadership in the church.UnLeader will help you redefine and recalibrate your view of leadership according to Jesus’ life. Renew your ministry, reimagine your path to authentic servant leadership, and discover that the only leaders worthy of being followed in the Church are the ones who are following Christ himself.
