  • Slave : The Hidden Truth About Your Identity In Christ

    $19.99

    A COVER-UP OF BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS-

Centuries ago, English translators perpetrated a fraud in the New Testament, and it’s been purposely hidden and covered up ever since. Your own Bible is probably included in the cover-up! In this book, which includes a study guide for personal or group use, John MacArthur unveils the essential and clarifying revelation that may be keeping you from a fulfilling-and correct-relationship with God. It’s powerful. It’s controversial. And with new eyes you’ll see the riches of your salvation in a radically new way.

What does it mean to be a Christian the way Jesus defined it? MacArthur says it all boils down to one word: SLAVE “We have been bought with a price. We belong to Christ. We are His own possession.”

Pastor, teacher and theologian Ross Hastings addresses the fear and frustration that often accompany talk about the churchs missional vocation. There is an antidote to the “locked door” syndrome that affects us now as it did that band of apostles in the upper room. Hastings directs us to the foundation of hope in the trinitarian commission of John 20 where Jesus grants them his peace by breathing on them his Spirit. He formed them into his community of shalom. Leaving that place of isolation, these “sent ones” went out to participate in Gods own ongoing mission to the world. Hastings tackles the dual challenges of isolation from and accommodation to the surrounding culture. In doing so he opens up a theological vista on the missional character of our trinitarian God and the missional identity of his church. Building on the works of David Bosch, Lesslie Newbigin, Christopher Wright and Darrell Guder, the author corrects numerous dichotomies that hinder the church. In the power of the Spirit the gathered church is spiritually transformed and also scattered as it proclaims Gods forgiveness and freedom Hastings presents here a comprehensive theology of mission. In doing so he confronts the fears and pessimism that erode our faithful effort to join in Christs mission to the world.

  • I Have Grown In His Love

    $37.99

One method of enjoying reading the Bible is to live the events as one reads them by becoming an observer or a participant in those events. In this novel, the author became “James,” the lad who was carrying five loaves of bread and two fish which Jesus blessed to feed over five thousand people. From that perspective, he followed James’s growth in love of Jesus Christ. Through listening to Jesus’ teachings, observing His miraculous deeds, following Him on the way to the cross, and hearing the news of His resurrection from the dead, James developed his understanding of who Jesus is. First, he thought of Him as a prophet, the Messiah, and finally he believed that He is the Son of God. At a mature age, James wrote his memoirs, from the first time he met Jesus, to the time he was preparing to leave on his first missionary trip to preach the Way. Although the miracle of feeding the crowd happened almost one year before Jesus was crucified and resurrected, the novel is developed to present to the reader other important events that happened prior to that miracle. Prophecies of the Old Testament were incorporated in the body of the story as they were being fulfilled. The Bible events in the novel are real. James is an imaginary figure whom the author followed in his growth in the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

    $30.95

Good Morning, Mr. Paul is a memoir of a young Peace Corps volunteer following President John F. Kennedy’s challenge to serve his country by serving others between 1963 and 1965. While Mr. Paul is coaching Indonesian athletes for the 1964 Olympic Games and teaching at the University of Sriwidjaja, his idealistic desire to serve is tempered when he faces resistance and threats from the communists fomenting civil unrest at that time in Indonesia’s history.

The reader will also live with Mr. Paul as he experiences cultural adjustments, romance, embarrassing surprises, humorous events, and life-and-death situations as he struggles to fulfill his commitment to the Peace Corps, the Indonesian people, and himself. Perhaps more significantly, Good Morning, Mr. Paul is about a young American with a limited world view, learning that people are far more important than things; that the measure of a man, even an athlete, lies not in his physical strength but in his courage to continue when there seems little hope; that there is a higher calling to serve others, rather than to be served; that faith is real.

We need less conventional wisdom and more creative leadership.

Not all of the advice church leaders have heard on church growth works. Judging by declining membership in many mainstream denominations, most doesn’t. It’s time to reevaluate the standard thinking on how to grow a church, especially considering the number of new voices questioning the worth of church growth.

The Cowarts have an amazing story to tell. Harvest Church has grown from a church plant of four – Jim and Jennifer and their two children – to a thriving community of more than 2,200 disciples of Jesus. Harvest Church is changing the world and having an awesome time doing it.

Learn why conventional church thinking such as pastoral care, long-term planning, stewardship campaigns, committees, and even staff appointments can actually inhibit church growth.

  • Lead Like Butler

    $17.99

In 2011, Butler University made history as the first team to make it to two consecutive finals of the NCAA basketball tournament without being seeded #1 or #2. As the smallest school to play in the championship game in the 40-year history of the tournament, Butler became the quintessential “Cinderella” team. How did this little-known Midwest university achieve what few schools have ever done by making it to the final championship game two years in a row?

Much of the attention is focused on head coach and team leader Brad Stevens, who was only 33 years old at the time of the 2010 tournament. Often mistaken for one of the players, Stevens coaches according to a set of six values-based principles broadly known as the Butler Way – Humility, Passion, Unity, Service, Thankfulness, and Accountability.

Through interviews with coaches, players, and alumni, Kent Millard and Judity Cebula explore the six leadership values taught by the entire coaching staff at Butler University. Each chapter of the book helps readers discover how these values form a solid foundation for pastors and other church leaders and anyone striving for success in life’s journey.

  • Rob Bell And A New American Christianity

    $20.99

Some claim controversial leader Rob Bell, the author of Love Wins, is the new voice of American Christianity. While long-established church traditions and alliances shift and fray, Rob Bell is catching the attention of broad groups of evangelicals, liberals, and the disillusioned. Some leaders claim he represents the future of the church in both message and style, while others dismiss him outright as a heretic.

Who is Rob Bell exactly? Is he as important as his appearance on the cover of Time magazine suggests? Is he the main influence on a new generation of American Christians, as some claim? Is he, as others suggest, simply a hipster megachurch pastor with good marketing skills? If so, why does popular culture give him so much attention?

This important new exploration by James K. Wellman, Jr. sheds light on Rob Bell’s emotional power and looks beyond a personality to the dynamics of this important shifting time in American religion.

The doctrine of the Trinity was settled in the fourth century, and maintained, with only very minor disagreement or development, by all strands of the church–Western and Eastern, Protestant and Catholic–until the modern period. In the twentieth century, there arose a sense that the doctrine had been neglected and stood in need of recovery. In The Quest for the Trinity, Holmes takes us on a remarkable journey through 2,000 years of the Christian doctrine of God. We witness the churchs discovery of the Trinity from the biblical testimony, its crucial patristic developments, and medieval and Reformation continuity. We are also confronted with the questioning of traditional dogma during the Enlightenment, and asked to consider anew the character of the modern Trinitarian revival. Holmess controversial conclusion is that the explosion of theological work in recent decades claiming to recapture the heart of Christian theology in fact deeply misunderstands and misappropriates the traditional doctrine of the Trinity. Yet his aim is constructive: to grasp the wisdom of the past and, ultimately, to bring a clearer understanding of the meaning of the present.

    Additional Info
Who was Peter and what was his true stature in the early church? For Protestants at least, Peter seems caught between two caricatures: the rustic fisherman of Galilee and the author of two lesser New Testament letters. And in both cases he is overshadowed by Paul. Yet Peter plays a significant role in the Gospels and is an apostolic leader in Acts. And those who study his letters find them filled with theological insight. In The Life and Witness of Peter Larry Helyer seeks to reinstate this neglected and underestimated apostle to his rightful stature as an early Christian leader and faithful witness to Christ. Arguing for a more confident assessment of the apostle’s presence and contribution to the New Testament, Helyer pulls Peter out from the long shadow of Paul. What we find is a Peter whose firsthand witness stands behind much of Mark’s Gospel, a Peter whose striking portrait in Acts can be trusted as reliable, and a Peter whose letters glow with spiritual and theological intelligence. Along the way we are rewarded with a careful analysis of prominent theological themes in Peter’s letters. And we learn much about the traditions, legends and legacy of Peter in the post-apostolic era.

One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts. Psalm 145:4 Most churches and faith communities segment their ministries by age and generation. The kids go to childrens church, the teens go to youth group. Worship services are geared toward different generational preferences, and small groups gather people at the same life stage, whether singles, young marrieds, parents or empty nesters. In some congregations, people may never interact with those of other ages. But it was not always so. Throughout biblical tradition and the majority of history, communities of faith included people of all ages together in corporate worship, education and ministry. The church was not just multigenerational; it was intergenerational, with the whole church together as one family and people of all ages learning from one another in common life. In this comprehensive text, Holly Allen and Christine Ross offer a complete framework for intentional intergenerational Christian formation. They provide the theoretical foundations for intergenerationality, showing how learning and spiritual formation are better accomplished through intergenerational contexts. It is not just elders teaching youth; learning also takes place when adults discover fresh insights from children. Then the authors give concrete guidance for intergenerational praxis on how worship, learning, community and service can all be achieved intergenerationally. Case studies of intergenerational congregations provide models for how a culture of intergenerationality can be created in local churches. This volume serves as an essential guide for all preparing for and involved in congregational ministry and formation. Discover the riches of intergenerational ministry, and let all generations commend the works of God to one another.

What was clear to the original readers of Scripture is not always clear to us. Because of the cultural distance between the biblical world and our contemporary setting, we often bring modern Western biases to the text. For example: When Western readers hear Paul exhorting women to “dress modestly,” we automatically think in terms of sexual modesty. But most women in that culture would never wear racy clothing. The context suggests that Paul is likely more concerned about economic modesty–that Christian women not flaunt their wealth through expensive clothes, braided hair and gold jewelry. Some readers might assume that Moses married “below himself” because his wife was a dark-skinned Cushite. Actually, Hebrews were the slave race, not the Cushites, who were highly respected. Aaron and Miriam probably thought Moses was being presumptuous by marrying “above himself.”Western individualism leads us to assume that Mary and Joseph traveled alone to Bethlehem. What went without saying was that they were likely accompanied by a large entourage of extended family. Biblical scholars Brandon O’Brien and Randy Richards shed light on the ways that Western readers often misunderstand the cultural dynamics of the Bible. They identify nine key areas where modern Westerners have significantly different assumptions about what might be going on in a text. Drawing on their own crosscultural experience in global mission, O’Brien and Richards show how better self-awareness and understanding of cultural differences in language, time and social mores allow us to see the Bible in fresh and unexpected ways. Getting beyond our own cultural assumptions is increasingly important for being Christians in our interconnected and globalized world. Learn to read Scripture as a member of the global body of Christ.

  • Exemplary Life

    $29.99

Exemplary Life articulates the apostle Luke’s vision for life together in a local church using key passages from Acts 2:42-47; 4:32-35; and 5:12-16 (known as “summary narratives”) as the starting point of reference. Although Luke is rightly acclaimed as the church’s first historian, he was a powerful writer and theologian as well. He also planted churches with Paul and had definite convictions about what life together in the church should look like. Yet, Luke’s theology of church life is underemphasized in modern scholarship, downplayed by issues rising from the historical-critical method. However, when the summary narratives are studied through the lens of narrative and rhetorical criticism, Luke’s strategy is unmistakable. Those passages cast a vision for life together in an exemplary church, drawn from the historical circumstances of the church in Jerusalem. These narratives also serve as a starting point for studying church life throughout Acts. When the church planting movements in Samaria, Antioch, Ephesus, and Troas are examined, we find echoes of the narratives almost constantly. These amplify and drive home Luke’s message in the summary narratives.Taking this path, twenty distinct characteristics of exemplary church life emerge. From repentance and Scriptural authority to praying together and earning the respect of neighbors, each one is thoughtfully presented here by author Andy Chambers to reassert Luke’s voice in 21st century conversations about the faithful formation of New Testament churches.

  • Prophet Jesus And The Renewal Of Israel

    $23.99

Debate over whether or not Jesus can be best interpreted within an “apocalyptic scenario” has continued to dominate historical Jesus studies since Schweitzer and Bultmann. In The Prophet Jesus and the Renewal of Israel Richard Horsley shows that the apocalyptic scenario — with its supposed expectation of “the end of the world,” the fiery “last judgment,” and “the parousia of the Son of Man” — is a modern scholarly construct that obscures the particulars of texts, society, and history. Drawing on his wide-ranging earlier scholarship, Horsley refocuses and reformulates investigation of the historical Jesus in a thoroughly relational-contextual approach. He recognizes that the sources for the historical Jesus are not separate sayings, but rather the sustained Gospel narratives of Jesus’ mission. Horsley’s new approach finds Jesus the popular prophet engaged in a movement of renewal, resistance, and judgment against Roman imperialism, Jerusalem rulers, and the Pharisees.

This book is volume VIB of The Forms of the Old Testament Literature (FOTL), a series that presents a form-critical analysis of every book and each unit in the Hebrew Bible. Serge Frolov’s valuable study of Judges addresses both the synchronic and diachronic perspectives, offering not only the first full-scale form criticism of Judges but also an important application of form criticism as practiced today.

Fundamentally exegetical, this volume examines the structure, genre, setting, and intention of Judges. Focusing on the canonical Hebrew text, Frolov shows how the sequence “apostasyoppression- repentance-deliverance” traverses the boundary between Judges and Samuel. Frolov also analyzes the history behind the form-critical discussion of this book and exposes the exegetical process so as to enable students and pastors to engage in their own analysis and interpretation of Judges.

  • Effective Staffing For Vital Churches (Reprinted)

    $19.00

Well-staffed churches grow. But how do churches staff for growth in these rapidly changing times when budgets are tight, mission opportunities abound, and there is a growing shortage of qualified pastors, staff members, and church leaders? Two veteran pastors and church growth consultants offer workable solutions that focus on the four core processes vital to church health and growth: bringing people to Christ and the church, retaining them, discipling them, and sending them back out into the world. They also show pastors how to navigate the leadership transitions they must make to become increasingly effective as the church grows. Pastors will learn how to be leaders who multiply leaders and develop a mission-minded staff that does the same. Foreward by Ed Stetzer.

    $18.00

Historically, men have been in control–of nations, of wars, of commerce, of their families. Of practically everything, except often themselves. And those men who are fully in control of all other aspects of their worlds are often the ones who find themselves trapped in hidden compulsions and behaviors. From the usual suspects like pornography and gambling to those overlooked compulsions like overwork and withdrawal.

In Battles Men Face, Dr. Jantz exposes the temptations that entrap good men, explains the root reasons men find themselves trapped in these behaviors, and gives them practical steps to take to overcome their unhealthy patterns. He shows them how to accept who they are (and who they’re not), love themselves enough to say no, focus and build on the positive, and, perhaps most difficult, ask for and accept help.

Traditional understandings of God as deliverer depict God as a mighty liberator-warrior and wrathful avenger. Juliana Claassens explores alternative Old Testament metaphors that portray God as mourner, mother, and midwife-images that resist the violence and bloodshed associated with the dominant warrior imagery.

Claassens discusses how metaphors of God as life giver began to develop in the aftermath of the trauma of Israelite exile. She offers compelling examples of how this feminine imagery still has the power to inspire hope amidst violence in today’s world. She demonstrates that God’s delivering presence helps people of faith cope with trauma and suffering on many levels-individual, community, national, and global-while bringing forth new life out of death and destruction.

  • Understanding Biblical Theology

    $17.99

Understanding Biblical Theology clarifies the catch-all term ‘biblical theology,’ a movement that tries to remove the often-held dichotomy between biblical studies for the Church and as an academic pursuit. This book examines the five major schools of thought regarding biblical theology and handles each in turn, defining and giving a brief developmental history for each one, and exploring each method through the lens of one contemporary scholar who champions it. Using a spectrum between history and theology, each of five ‘types’ of biblical theology are identified as either ‘more theological’ or ‘more historical’ in concern and practice: Biblical Theology as Historical Description (James Barr) Biblical Theology as History of Redemption (D. A. Carson) Biblical Theology as Worldview-Story (N. T. Wright) Biblical Theology as Canonical Approach (Brevard Childs) Biblical Theology as Theological Construction (Francis Watson).

A conclusion suggests how any student of the Bible can learn from these approaches.

  • Comfort Ye My People

    $13.95

The predominant attitude over the past 1,700 years among Christians toward Jews has been both indifference and hatred. The decision of the First Nicaean Council to abandon the traditional Christian Passover for Roman Easter began the divorce of the church from its Jewish roots. This decree was followed by an onslaught of Jewish suffering at the hands of Christians: the “blood libel” fallacy, the Inquisition, Martin Luther’s invectives against the Jews, countless pogroms in the name of Christ, and the formation of the “German Evangelical Church” (the puppet church which Hitler used to create an “Aryan” version of Christianity, devoid of its Jewish roots). This resulted in the murder of over six million Jews in the Holocaust while the majority of the Church silently watched. The Church’s legacy throughout the centuries is covered with innocent Jewish blood. In this treatise Dr. Smith explores:

Anti-Semitism in the Church from the time of the Emperor Constantine to the present
Eye-witness accounts by Jewish Holocaust survivors and leaders of the Resistance
Current threats to Israel and the Diaspora due to an upsurge of anti-Semitism
The roots and consequences of “replacement theology” in the church

  • My Babys Feet

    Choice, Death, and the Aftermath
Fearfully and desperately wanting to hide my mistakes and deny the unwanted, but not totally unexpected ramifications of my earlier choices, I chose what seemed to be the easiest answer. I chose death, and then I moved into the aftermath of my choice. I, for a lifetime and beyond, will live in the aftermath of my choice. Although there is recovery, through forgiveness, there are lasting ramifications. No one told me that the ramifications of my choice would last forever. No one told me what my choice would do to my heart. No one told me that my choice was, in fact, a death sentence for my baby.

Are you, or someone you know, facing an unwanted pregnancy? Are you wondering if “choice” is the answer, the easiest solution?
After the “choice” comes the aftermath. A living choice not only gives life to a baby, but results in an aftermath of life. Abortion results in an aftermath forever shrouded in death, death of a baby, perhaps death of your own baby. For those struggling with the aftermath of abortion, you and your loved ones can find forgiveness.

    This book is for:
Teenage moms wrestling with choice and an unplanned pregnancy
Loved ones who are seeking resolution after abortion
Anyone who needs hope and healing after abortion
This book is a great tool for teen pregnancy educators, pregnancy center advisors, and those seeking to learn more about the emotional struggles, post abortion. It is written out of love and understanding by a woman who thought her choice was the best answer. Whether or not you are a Christian, you will be inspired by the author’s incredible faith, without which it would have been impossible to write this book.
Through my story, I pray that you will know that a living choice is the only real choice.
Join me in my story of running from my mistakes, hiding my choice, and slogging through the aftermath. Come with me as I discover a new truth about an old choice. Join me as I struggle with guilt and heartfelt shame, knowing the new truth. Observe the aftermath.

The Lord of the Rings is a catechism of spiritual warfare cleverly disguised as a fantasy. The struggle against evil that takes place inside its pages is the same one that occurs even now within the soul of each person.

As we cannot leave the field of battle until death takes us from it, we should learn as much as we can about how to fight from those who have labored before us. Certainly the Red Book of Westmarch is one source to use. We may not have to sacrifice ourselves as does Gandalf, but we can learn from him and his wise counsels and from the others who he taught. Frodo guides us as well, as he makes his torturous journey to Mount Doom and endures the Ring’s unceasing temptations. With him, we see that sometimes we overcome our temptations, and at other times they overwhelm us. We also learn, as he and Boromir do, to get back up and start the struggle anew. Sam shows us the height of hope and the depth of devotion. In fact, everyone in the tale, good as well as evil, has something to teach us.

God is reconciling all things in heaven and on earth.

We are alienated not only from one another, but also from the land that sustains us. Our ecosystems are increasingly damaged, and human bodies are likewise degraded. Most of us have little understanding of how our energy is derived or our food is produced, and many of our current industrialized practices are both unhealthy for our bodies and unsustainable for the planet.

Agriculturalist Fred Bahnson and theologian Norman Wirzba declare that in Christ, God reconciles all bodies into a peaceful, life-promoting relationship with one another. Because human beings are incarnated in material, bodily existence, we are necessarily interdependent with plants and animals, land and sea, heaven and earth. The good news is that redemption is cosmic, with implications for agriculture and ecology, from farm to dinner table.

Bahnson and Wirzba describe communities that model cooperative practices of relational life, with local food production, eucharistic eating and delight in God’s provision.

Reconciling with the land is a rich framework for a new way of life. Read this book to start down the path to restoring shalom and experiencing Jesus’ kingdom of shared abundance, where neighbors are fed and all receive enough.

  • Lucifers War : Understanding And Confronting The Enemy We Face

    $15.99

Why does evil persist? If Satan is a defeated enemy, why does it appear as though he isn’t? Why doesn’t he give up?

Evil rages at an unacceptable level against individuals and groups of people who are created in the image of God and no one appears able to do very much about it. We are in the midst of an ancient, ongoing, global, celestial struggle for power and authority to govern and control human behavior and subsequently the nations of the earth, even the planet itself.

Dr. Linda Rios Brook offers a detailed examination of the ancient struggle between God, the devil, and humanity, helping readers learn and apply what the Bible teaches us about dealing with evil at its root cause.

Scripture shows us that Satan lost his authority to rule on the Earth, but not his power. If people of faith are to draw a line and say “this far and no further,” it will require a better understanding of the enemy we face. If we are to prevail against his plans, we must understand him better than we do.

  • Lifted By Angels

    $18.99

A fascinating and inspiring look at the role of angels in the lives of people-how they lead us to and through a saving experience of Christ.

What if heaven were much closer than we realized? What if its boundaries overlapped our own? What if angels moved in and out of our porous present, this moment that seems to us so real and concrete? It’s all true, and if the reality seems dim to us now, it beamed for the early Christians. Through their writings, sermons, songs, and art, the ancient faithful confessed a powerful and vivid belief that angels help carry us on our journey to God.

Lifted by Angels goes back to those early Christians and presents modern readers with a vision of angels as seen through their eyes and experiences-how they understood the angelic realms, the guidance and protection of angels, and the struggles with the devil and his demons. Whether in trial or temptation, praise or prayer, we find angels present and positioned to help and comfort, guide and correct, walking with us till the point of death and beyond, escorting us to the very arms of Christ.

  • Fantasy Fallacy : Exposing The Deeper Meaning Behind Sexual Thoughts

    $18.99

Sexual and emotional fantasies tend to reveal certain areas of trauma, brokenness, and disillusionment that are yet to be healed.

Many people, including Christians, look to their sexual and emotional fantasies as a road map to where they can find the fulfillment they long for. However these fantasies aren’t a reliable road map into the future, they are actually a rocky road map from the past.

Shannon Ethridge, best-selling Christian author, certified life coach, and advocate for healthy sexuality offers fascinating insights into common sexual thoughts such as:
*dating a much older man or much younger woman
    *connecting with strangers via cyberspace
    *gay and lesbian fantasies
*fascination with pleasure, pain, and power

Introduced in Genesis, God’s design for sex, beyond procreation, is to offer connection and pleasure for marriage partners. But also in Genesis is an outline of seven sexual fallacies that bring discord, pain, and brokenness. The Fantasy Fallacy helps explain the basis for these fallacies and offers insights to help expose not only the meaning behind them, but ways to face them, heal from them, and find physical, emotional, and spiritual freedom.

Josephine soon realizes that life is now a matter of daily survival–and recognizes that Lizzie, as one of the few remaining servants, is the one she must rely on to teach her all she needs to know. Josephine’s mother, too, vows to rebuild White Oak… but a bitter hatred fuels her.

  • Accidental Pharisees : Avoiding The Seven Temptations Of Radical Christiani

    $22.99

Zealous faith can have a dangerous, dark side. While recent calls for radical Christians have challenged many to be more passionate about their faith, the down side can be a budding arrogance and self-righteousness that ‘accidentally’ sneaks into our outlook. In Accidental Pharisees, bestselling author Larry Osborne diagnoses nine of the most common traps that can ensnare Christians on the road to a deeper life of faith.

Rejecting attempts to turn the call to follow Christ into a new form of legalism, he shows readers how to avoid the temptations of pride, exclusivity, legalism, and hypocrisy, Larry reminds us that attempts to fan the flames of full-on discipleship and call people to Christlikeness should be rooted in love and humility. Christians stirred by calls to radical discipleship, but unsure how to respond, will be challenged and encouraged to develop a truly Christlike zeal for God.

A SCIENTIST’S CASE FOR THE AFTERLIFE
Thousands of people have had near-death experiences, but scientists have argued that they are impossible. Dr. Eben Alexander was one of those scientists. A highly trained neurosurgeon, Alexander knew that NDEs feel real, but are simply fantasies produced by brains under extreme stress.

Then, Dr. Alexander’s own brain was attacked by a rare illness. The part of the brain that controls thought and emotion-and in essence makes us human-shut down completely. For seven days he lay in a coma. Then, as his doctors considered stopping treatment, Alexander’s eyes popped open. He had come back.

Alexander’s recovery is a medical miracle. But the real miracle of his story lies elsewhere. While his body lay in coma, Alexander journeyed beyond this world and encountered an angelic being who guided him into the deepest realms of super-physical existence. There he met, and spoke with, the Divine source of the universe itself.

Alexander’s story is not a fantasy. Before he underwent his journey, he could not reconcile his knowledge of neuroscience with any belief in heaven, God, or the soul. Today Alexander is a doctor who believes that true health can be achieved only when we realize that God and the soul are real and that death is not the end of personal existence but only a transition.

This story would be remarkable no matter who it happened to. That it happened to Dr. Alexander makes it revolutionary. No scientist or person of faith will be able to ignore it. Reading it will change your life.

This involves not just correct doctrine and proper outward behavior, but also love for God and fellow believers. It’s this love, John writes, that shows that the truth of the gospel has really been grasped, not as an abstract idea but as what it is, the very life of God himself at work in his people.

These nine studies from Tom Wright help us become believers who are “walking in the truth” in our own day–people in whom the very life of God is at work for all to see.

  • As A Fire By Burning

    $60.99

As a Fire by Burning explores the relationship between the day-to-day life of local churches and congregations and contemporary thinking about mission. The book begins with first-hand experience of those engaged in mission in a wide variety of different contexts, which are then, in the second part of the book explored and reflected by Roger Standing, an experienced practitioner and teacher of mission and pioneer ministry in the light of contemporary mission thinking. On what biblical/theological basis do we seek to do what we do? A number of critical themes are developed that explore important questions that are rarely addressed, but that can have significant implications if they are neglected or misunderstood. Rather than relying on a ‘one size fits all’, off-the-shelf approach to mission, the book will encourage a level of engagement with context, Scripture, prayer and theology that will help to empower a local congregation to discern and shape its own missional life.

But they are indispensable quarries.’ Sensing the lack of something between them and books designed for daily or group Bible study, he has provided a guide to the Epistle to the Romans which will set the historical context, draw attention to the points of interest and importance, and help the would-be reader to wrestle with its often difficult message. `I do not promise only blood, sweat and tears. On the contrary, the Epistle to the Romans offers what Winston Churchill also called the sunlit uplands, indeed the very heights of Christian experience and theology. But to appreciate them one must be prepared to work at it. A church where this wrestling is not being seriously attempted, especially in the most educated generation of its history to date, will be impoverished in its capacity to transform the world rather than be conformed to it.

  • Jesus And His Coming

    $35.00

In this controversial study, first published in l957. Dr Robinson looked for the origins of the doctrine of the Second Coming in the belief of the early church. His conclusion, that the early church may well have misinterpreted the original teaching of Jesus on the issue, was based on a careful and thorough examination of the New Testament material. In his preface to this reissue, he writes: In the quarter of a century since I worked on the material I am not persuaded that the thesis of the hook has lost its importance Or its credibility. How and why the doctrine of the Parousia or Second Coming of Christ emerged in the thinking of the earliest Christian Communities remains of vital significance as we continue to wrestle today with how we can re-express it theologically, apply it politically, o?mmunicate it pastorally or incorporate it liturgically. that part of Christian teaching which asserts that Christ has to come into everything would seem on the t face of it to he the easiest to make relevant. Yet how much of its traditional formulation rests On a mistake, or represents a myth we can scarcely make our own? Until we understand what in that primordial explosion of truth which marked the first decades of the Christian movement caused it to he thrown up. what positive insights it embodied–and. I would say, distorted–we shall not he free to proclaim it with conviction or to apply it with discernment.’

  • Creating A Missional Culture

    $25.99

Once upon a time, Moses had had enough. Exhausted by the challenge of leading the Israelites from slavery to the Promised Land, Moses cried out to God, “What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me? . . . If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me” (Exodus 11:11, 15). If that sounds hauntingly familiar to you, you may be the senior pastor of a contemporary church. The burden of Christian leadership is becoming increasingly unbearable–demanding skills not native to the art of pastoring; demanding time that makes sabbath rest and even normal sleep patterns seem extravagant; demanding inhuman levels of efficiency, proficiency and even saintliness. No wonder pastors seem and even feel less human these days. No wonder they burn out or break down at an alarming rate; no wonder the church is missing the mark on its mission. In Creating a Missional Culture, JR Woodward offers a bold and surprisingly refreshing model for churches–not small adjustments around the periphery of a church’s infrastructure but a radical revisioning of how a church ought to look, from its leadership structure to its mobilization of the laity. The end result looks surprisingly like the church that Jesus created and the apostles cultivated: a church not chasing the wind but rather going into the world and making disciples of Jesus.

  • Jesus Today : Experiencing Hope Through His Presence

    $16.99

Beloved missionary, Sarah Young, shares another deeply spiritual devotional to help readers grow in grace, hear from God, and walk with Jesus TodayTM. Her first book, the acclaimed bestseller, Jesus Calling, was born after years of writing in her prayer journal and feeling led to write down what she believed God was telling her. Gradually, her prayer journal turned from a monologue to a dialogue. Knowing that her writings were not inspired as Scripture is, this process still helped her grow closer in her walk with God. In Jesus TodayTM, readers will be renewed with a deeper sense of hope as Sarah shares this about her spiritual journey in writing the book: “When I began writing Jesus Today, I was deeply discouraged by the failure of many months of intensive medical treatment to improve my health. However, the longer I worked on the book-focusing on finding hope in Jesus-the more hopeful and encouraged I became.”
