Day I Met Jesus (Reprinted)
$16.00Add to cartSo many of us suffer from an intense spiritual inferiority complex. We are insecure about God’s love for us. We don’t understand our true worth in his eyes. We struggle with guilt over mistakes we’ve made. We are ashamed of our own lack of devotion or fervor. We want Jesus to light the flame of love in our hearts, to feel as we did when we first received his salvation.
On the other hand, following Jesus has become stale and familiar to countless Christians today. The flame of first love has waned and our zeal for the Lord has cooled. We need to be inspired and challenged to utterly abandon our lives to Jesus anew.
With a deep sense of awe and a fierce intimacy, this unique book explores five women in the Gospels whose encounters with Jesus revolutionized their lives. Through their imagined diaries, readers get a glimpse of the inner thoughts of the Samaritan woman, the woman caught in adultery, the prostitute, the woman with an issue of blood, and Mary of Bethany. Readers meet these women in their most desperate moments and feel the captivating love and forgiveness of their Savior, revealing how Jesus intersects their lives.

Jesus Without Borders
$15.99Add to cartChad Gibbs has lived his entire life in Alabama, the buckle of America’s Bible Belt, where Christianity is a person’s default setting. In Jesus Without Borders, Gibbs steps outside of his very comfortable existence, to learn what it’s like to be a Christian anywhere else in the world. Over the course of many months, Chad and his Alabama worldview spent time with believers from Beijing to Rio de Janeiro, worshiping with them and observing not only how their faith influences their daily lives but also how their daily lives influence their faith, in hopes of learning which parts of his faith have been compromised by the American Dream. Reflecting on conversations and experiences, Gibbs wrestles with a wide range of questions from his conservative Christian background, including politics and patriotism in the church and how living in Alabama has shaped his views on pacifism, alcohol, and Christ himself. An attempt to extract and examine the biases in the author’s own faith, Jesus Without Borders will have readers questioning if they believe certain things because they are a Christian, or because they are an American, as they meet believers from around the world with differing views on a variety of subjects. Told with Gibbs’ trademark humor, Jesus Without Borders enlightens and entertains, introducing readers to believers around the world in hopes of eliminating prejudices and misconceptions, clearing away the parts of our culture that keep us from seeing a clearer picture of Christ, and living connected to the family of faith around the globe.

What does it mean to stand for honesty, courage, and charity, especially at times when the culture and the world run counter to those values? Each of the seven biographies represents the life of a man who experienced the struggles and challenges to be strong in the face of forces and circumstances that would have destroyed the resolve of lesser men.

Song Of Songs
$20.99Add to cartThis Old Testament book, ‘the best of songs’, has fascinated and perplexed interpreters for centuries. We hear the passionate melody of romantic love, and are confronted by erotic imagery but whose love is described? Is it a couple’s love for each other, God’s love for his people, or a poem that speaks to love in all its dimensions? Iain Duguid’s commentary explains how the Song is designed to show us an idealized picture of married love, in the context of a fallen and broken world. It also convicts us of how far short of this perfection we fall, both as humans and as lovers, and drives us repeatedly into the arms of our true heavenly husband, Jesus Christ. The Tyndale Old Testament Commentaries have long been a trusted resource for Bible study. Written by some of the world’s most distinguished evangelical scholars, these twenty-eight volumes offer clear, reliable and relevant explanations of every book in the Old Testament, aiming to get at the true meaning of the Bible and to make its message plain to readers today.

Kids Guide To The Armor Of God
$12.99Add to cartAs one of the country’s most respected evangelical leaders, pastor and author Tony Evans challenges “tweens” (ages 8 to 12) to explore what the armor of God is all about. He understands that Christian kids want to be stronger, more confident, and skilled at living an exciting God-centered life, and so he presents the unvarnished truth.
Tony Evans gives kids a plan for success by explaining:
*Scripture reveals who’s behind the world’s traps and snares and how to resist him.
*God offers all Christians a powerful suit of armor and mighty weapons.
*The suit includes a belt of truth and helmet of salvation to wear and shield of faith to carry into the battle. When every piece of God’s armor is worn correctly, the enemy is defeated and Christians finish victorious.By learning how to dress in the armor God provides, preteens are able to speak the truth, stand firm in the faith, and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Daily Devotions For Die Hard Fans Tennessee Volunteers
$19.99Add to cartExtra Point Publishers
Daily Devotions for Die-Hard Fans: Tennessee Volunteers combines the great passion of the Big Orange fan with the grand passion of the fan of Christ in one set of devotions. The result is a book that is fun while it provides a time of reflection about God and your faith. Butch Jones made a promise, but it took a great Vols’ comeback to keep it alive. Life was great for UT’s Sarah Fekete until she got hit in the face. It was once so cold at a game that when UT’s center spit blood, it turned into an icicle on his face guard. A pair of hungry Tennessee basketball players once misplaced a train. Even an opposing coach told Pat Summitt to wait ’til next year, and then the Lady Vols won another national title. These stories and more are recounted here. Also appearing are Peyton Manning, Bob Neyland, Peerless Price, Candace Parker, and many others. Their stories along with legendary games, improbable victories, and historical events are told with a twist: They are all tied to God’s story. -
Joyful Parent Equals Happy Home
$13.99Add to cartDo you get angry at your children easily? Do you often feel like giving up and throwing in the towel? You DO NOT have to feel or react like this anymore! It is difficult to watch your children do things “their way,” especially when it looks like it is totally the opposite of God’s way. You want to shout, “Stop!” because you clearly see the danger ahead. Mary Hudson shows you how as a parent you can look past your hurt and love your children despite their actions. Joyful Parent = Happy Home will encourage you to love your way into your kids’ world. Loving your children unconditionally is the primary ingredient to becoming a Joyful Parent. Once you figure out what is stealing your joy, you have won half the battle. The enemy is the one that is stealing your JOY – not your children. This is a spiritual battle. The enemy’s most effective weapon is deception. And if you fall for his lie that your child is never going to change and will always live a certain way, you have been duped by one of the devil’s oldest tricks. You will be surprised – you will get a brand-new view of parenting when you appropriate a brand-new attitude toward your children. We have to encourage our children with a vision for their future, with the plans that the Lord has for them. We need to remind them that the world will use and abuse them, but God will never fail them. Start speaking life to your children no matter what they are up to or what they are up against. Then, you will start to see life arise in them!

Hi Mom Did You Miss Me 2
$15.99Add to cartNovember 6, 1952. This morning I woke up in the arms of the only girl I have truly loved. If today is the first day of the rest of my life, it is getting off to a great start, isn’t it? Roush chronicled his life through letters to his mother; a mother he had not seen since he was five years old. As a young boy, Joseph, along with his sister and brother, was abruptly sent to a Montana orphanage, never to see his mother again. However, with hope in his heart, he wrote to her as if she was only across the country and shared all his struggles and joys. Follow Joseph as he leaves the Army and starts a new stage of his life-marriage. You’ll be encouraged and inspired by the life journey of one man who overcame painful trials with an attitude of joy and gratitude. His motto is: Life is good. God is great. He says, “While I’ve had many misfortunes and difficulties, God has always been faithful to take care of me and bless me beyond what I could have ever hoped for.”

Hi Mom Did You Miss Me 1
$14.99Add to cartJoseph Roush was nearly six years of age when he found that he would be housed in The Montana State Children’s home along with four hundred other youngsters. What could he do? What would you do in this situation? He dedicated himself to the task of locating his mother and putting his family back together. He would somehow record everything that would happen to him to share with his mother when they were reunited once again. He knew this could be a long and difficult journey, but he had no idea just how long and difficult it would be. Joseph’s journal should provide some insight into the influence good folks can have over those who face unfortunate events in their lives. Perhaps his experiences both good and bad might give hope to those without hope and direction to the lost.

Me To We
$20.99Add to cartChurches with front doors that open up mission fields rather than buildings. When Christians answer the clarion call to be missional, too often it is primarily to feel good or to grow in their own faith. But ultimately we remain unsatisfied because, in the end, it’s still about “me”-my church, my faith, my salvation. Then sometimes inspiration dries up.
We forget that Jesus is the head of the Church, which exists at God’s pleasure and disposal. God is birthing a new Social Gospel, meant to reclaim mission and justice ministries as prime directives for the Church, and not with the naive thinking of the 19th or 20th centuries.
What are the characteristics of this new Social Gospel? There is an expectation that mission is “with” and not “for” others. There is an acknowledgement that tolerance is not a dirty word and we have to find a peaceable way to live in our intercultural world. It carries the Wesleyan impulse to change the world by working to build God’s kingdom in this world. It offers the grace and salvation of Christ to those in need, believing that none are free unless all are free. It means that we feed the hungry, educate to poor, and equip the powerless in tangible ways.

No Trespassing : Im Gods Property
$14.99Add to cartThis book contains transforming truths every young woman should know about her sexuality, her worth, and her God-given destiny.
Let’s talk about sex. We might as well talk about it, because it’s everywhere. Our culture continually bombards us with its way for sex in movies, television shows, music, magazines, and other media. But do you know that God has a way for sex, too? In fact, He created sex-it was His great idea! In No Trespassing: I’m God’s Property, Leah Holder proposes that God’s way is the best way. Leah first explains why we should follow God’s rules for sex. In addition to faith-based reasons, she highlights practical reasons, such as sexually transmitted diseases, unplanned pregnancies, and mental health issues. Then, Leah answers the next big question: How? Is it even possible to follow God’s way for sex when so many people don’t? With clarity, transparency, and humor, Leah presents Biblical truths and personal testimonies regarding how we can be sexually pure within this sex-crazy world. No Trespassing contains three brief sections-mind, body, and heart. Within them, Leah provides practical tips to guide us on our journeys to sexual purity. If we’re already on the sexually-pure path, we’ll be encouraged to remain on it. If we’ve departed from the sexually-pure path, or if we’ve never been on it, we’ll be reminded of God’s love and forgiveness, and we’ll be directed to the way to purity. Out of her love for God, others, and herself, Leah Holder has committed to live sexually pure. Although she falls far short of perfection, the Lord has enabled her to live in consistent victory over sexual sin. The advice she provides in No Trespassing isn’t based on a theory she heard about but on a reality she lives! After reading No Trespassing, Leah hopes you will experience the victory and freedom that she enjoys. Many young women experience the devastating effects of sexual activity outside of marriage. These include guilt, shame, unplanned pregnancies, family problems, and even legal and medical issues. This book addresses the root of these issues and offers encouragement and solutions. It urges young women to protect their minds, bodies, and hearts, and it contains Biblical truths, personal testimonies, and practical tips to help them do so.

Your God Given Dignity
$14.99Add to cartYour God Given Dignity has thirty days of interesting and fun ideas/practices for acknowledging and loving yourself so that you can be your best for God, your family, and the world.
Your God Given Dignity is a heartfelt yet fun companion to help make positive changes in self-acknowledgment. Often Christian women work very hard, taking on leadership and supportive roles in the church, community, at their jobs and with their families, only to neglect themselves to their own physical, mental, and spiritual detriment. When complete in Christ, living in relationship with the heavenly Father, we can handle what is necessary, know when to say enough, and know when to ask for help. The practices within these pages help bring us back to alignment. Your God Given Dignity presents simple concepts with verses and quotes, insights and action steps that incorporate learning strategies using all five senses (given to us by God for a purpose) to imbed positive thoughts-and especially God’s words-into our brains. The goal is to bring our minds back from “unworthy” thoughts to what God thinks through repetition and other practices. The renewed mind becomes easier as the thoughts of God, positive images, and supportive actions are consistently practiced and reinforced. Some of these practices involve goal setting and observing daily life to find personal strengths and passions so they can be strengthened even more. Christ’s disciples were just that-“disciplined ones”-but it doesn’t happen overnight. That is what we endeavor to pursue, step-by-step discipline, with these positive practices to incorporate God’s thoughts into our minds. Gentle reminders of what we do have put us back on the road to full capacity with less internal resistance. The trick is to acknowledge those things in ourselves and remember that God has made us worthy. “Failures” need to be forgiven and forgotten, and successes acknowledged for the gift they are. When we can truly believe God at His Word without reservation, through the renewed mind, we can shine as brilliant lights in this world.

Welcome To The Orthodox Church
$19.99Add to cartThere are other introductory books about Orthodoxy, but they are all somewhat academic. This one comprehensively covers the history, theology, and practice without talking over your head. Mathewes-Green takes the original approach of bringing you into a typical church for a series of visits. That is how Christians learned the faith for most of history, by coming into a community and keeping their eyes and ears open. Designed primarily for newcomers to come to understand Orthodoxy and Orthodox Christians, this guide to the faith is also a non-threatening and accessible introduction to people already “in the pews.” Inviting rather than argumentative, Orthodox Christians will be giving this to their friends.

Genesis Journal A Fresh Reading Of Genesis 1-12
$19.95Add to cartThis book is based on a solid commitment to the truth of God’s revelation. We would not know how this world came into being unless God had told us. The sequence of events would remain a mystery without an accurate record of Creation. This book is a retelling of what God has said concerning our creation.
The global nature of the first eleven chapters of Genesis reminds us of our insignificance, but on the other hand, the interaction of God with man reflects His assessment of our importance. We are made in God’s image, and that is of great significance.
The physical evidence for a cataclysmic destruction somewhere in the earth’s history is evident in the rocks and fossils. The biblical record explains the reason, the cause, the duration, and the recovery from this great flood. The record of that year supplies answers to a host of geological questions that would otherwise remain hidden. Likewise, the anthropological insight the Babel event supplies is unparalleled in history. God’s Word gives us answers to questions we didn’t even know to ask.
Finally, regarding our salvation-Genesis 12 provides us with the document signed by God that is the basis for our redemption. How do we participate in so great a salvation? Read and see. -

Christian Mission And Economic Systems
$21.99Add to cartChristian mission in the twenty-first century has emphasized endeavors that address poverty alleviation, business as mission, marketplace ministry, rural/urban development, microeconomics, and Christian attitudes toward money and consumerism. However, neither the macroeconomic circumstances in which the church does such ministry nor the assumptions that believers have absorbed from the larger economy have been adequately explored.
Christian Mission and Economic Systems gathers scholars, experts, and practitioners to address the relationship of Christians to the economic systems in which they are embedded and do ministry, and to evaluate the different cultural and religious dimensions of both micro- and macroeconomic systems around the world from a kingdom perspective.
Practitioners doing business as mission will grow in their understanding of the significance of local economic practices. Students and academics will benefit from the critical assessment of the intersection between micro- and macroeconomic systems in the contexts of specific ethnographic circumstances. Missionaries and churches will glean new insights on the difference that being a Christian makes to economic life. NGOs, nonprofits, or other Christian organizations doing work related to markets will benefit from a challenge to their previous understandings. Since work for the kingdom always takes place in some kind of an economic environment, this book will equip Christians in a variety of capacities to be more effective in their ministries.

Twenty years after its first release in one volume, Donald Guthrie has revised his widely acclaimed New Testament Introduction. A careful recasting of a benchmark evangelical work, this new edition provides a fixed point for surveying the books of the New Testament. Noting the issues raised by the past two decades of biblical scholarship, Guthrie engages the issues of authorship and authenticity, purpose and structure, historical context and cultural setting. In these discussions, as well as in the notes and bibliographies, he draws on a wealth of recent scholarly research which gives added value to this classic resource. -

Practices Of The Self And Spiritual Practices
$28.99Add to cartIn this book Sergey Horujy undertakes a novel comparative analysis of Foucault’s theory of practices of the self and the Eastern Orthodox ascetical tradition of Hesychasm, revealing great affinity between these two radical subject-less approaches to anthropology. As he facilitates the dialogue between the two, he offers both an original treatment of ascetical and mystical practices and an up-to-date interpretation of Foucault that goes against the grain of mainstream scholarship. In the second half of the book Horujy transitions from the dialogue with Foucault to his own work of Christian philosophy, rooted in — but not limited to — the Eastern Christian philosophical and theological tradition. Horujy’s thinking exemplifies the postsecular nature of our contemporary period and serves as a powerful invitation to think beyond religious-secular divides in philosophy and Eastern-Western divides in intellectual history.”

$48.99Add to cartThis third volume of Veli-Matti Karkkainen’s ambitious five volume theology project develops a Christian theology of creation and humanity (theological anthropology) in dialogue with the Christian tradition, with contemporary theology in all its global and contextual diversity, and with other major living faiths – Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism.
In constructing his theology of creation and humanity, Karkkainen uniquely engages the natural sciences, including physical, cosmological, and neuroscientific theories. He devotes particular attention to the topics of divine action in a world subjected to scientific study, environmental pollution, human flourishing, and the theological implications of evolutionary theory – with regard to both cosmos and humanity.

Job
$50.99Add to cartIn this commentary Lindsay Wilson shows the book of Job to be a coherent literary work that addresses this question: Is it possible for humans to have genuine faith in God regardless of their circumstances? Wilson argues that Job’s bold, sometimes questioning cries to God are portrayed as legitimate expressions of trust for a righteous person in adversity.
Through critical exegesis of the text, Wilson focuses on the message of Job and its implications for practical ministry, examining such key issues as suffering, justice, lament, and faith. He also touches on various pertinent topics in Christian ethics, including individual character, wealth, suicide, and the environment. In a final section Wilson offers guidance on using Job as a resource book for pastoral care and prayer, and he discusses how to teach and preach from the book of Job.

From Good To Grace (Reprinted)
$17.00Add to cartMany women feel as if they do not do enough and are not enough. They’re always trying hard to be good: a good friend, mom, wife, Christian, employee, or ministry leader, hoping for that “atta-girl” from God. With compelling illustrations from her own life, Christine Hoover leads readers to the understanding that they’re living by a lesser gospel, the gospel of goodness, one without Christ’s grace. Relying on Scripture, they can start asking, “What does God want for me?” before asking, “What does God want from me?” Women will breath a sigh of relief at this powerful message of freedom and hope. Rather than serving God out of obligation or duty, they’ll be compelled to love and serve God with great joy.

Sand In My Sandwich
$14.99Add to cartYou know that thing when you’re in Walmart at noon before you discover you haven’t brushed your teeth? Sarah Parshall Perry gets that. She also gets weird things showing up in her bed, her daughter asking for war paint, and her son crawling into a giant blue sock on Christmas morning. Mainly, she gets that conflicted feeling of finding her kids hanging out in the dogs’ cages and happily realizing they have stopped getting into trouble for a minute.
According to Perry, “The hardest stuff is the quickest way to God,” and readers get to watch the systematic destruction of her carefully planned life, laughing at her missteps, aching at her tragedies, and recognizing themselves along the way. A mother of three children, two of whom are on the autism spectrum, she has experienced plenty of ups and downs, but from the chaos of her “ordinary” life she pulls the universal truths of motherhood, addressing them with humor, poignancy, and a naked honesty that will make the reader think, That sounds a lot like my crazy life. Perry helps mothers realize they aren’t alone, even if they’ve fallen off the straight and narrow of their intended path and are instead lying in the ditch next to it. Life’s a mess. But as Perry reminds us, it’s all for a purpose.
Perfect for mothers, this book will encourage, inspire, and enlighten.

More Than Just The Talk (Reprinted)
$16.00Add to cartIn a sex-saturated culture where kids are exposed to nearly 14,000 sexual references per year on television, and 70 percent of teenagers have encountered pornography on the Internet, parents can’t rely on the traditional one-time “sex talk” that their own parents muddled through. Kids need to know that it’s natural to be curious about sex and that their parents are the most reliable source of information. Otherwise, their friends and smartphones will be more than willing to give answers that are likely to lead them down the path to sin and heartache.
Jonathan McKee shows parents how to move beyond the initial awkwardness of this subject into an ongoing conversation with their kids about God’s amazing gift of sex. He equips them to engage in open conversations about dating, temptation, porn, and purity. Parents will find answers to the tough questions most people avoid and relevant Scripture regarding sexual issues. When parents provide the honest answers their kids are longing for, they can become the ones their kids turn to with their questions about this critical topic.

Together For The Common Good
$44.99Add to cartHow can we work together for the common good today? Thirteen contributors – Christian, Jewish, Muslim, non-religious – discuss the common good from a wide range of viewpoints. How have thinkers like Aristotle and Edmund Burke talked about the common good in the past? Catholic Social Teaching has a lot to say about the common good: what does the common good mean for the world’s great religious traditions today? How can we usefully talk about the common good in a plural society? What responsibility has the state for the common good? Can the market serve the common good? If we care about the common good, what should we think – and do – about immigration, education, the NHS, inequality, and freedom? This book starts from the example of David Sheppard and Derek Worlock, the Anglican Bishop and Roman Catholic Archbishop, who famously worked together for the good of the city of Liverpool in the 1980s. The contributors call for a national conversation about how, despite our differences, we can work together – locally, nationally, internationally – for the common good.

Mother And Child Project
$18.99Add to cartDozens of influential leaders have heard the pleas of mothers and children in developing countries. Raising their voices to inspire a movement to increase healthy pregnancies and lower death rates, Melinda Gates, Kay Warren, Bill Frist, Kimberly Williams Paisley, Michael W. Smith and more speak out about why people of faith must get involved in The Mother and Child Project: Raising Our Voices for Health and Hope. Almost 287,000 women die each year because of pregnancy and birth complications. Many orphans are left behind in the wake of this tragedy, and without a mother, many of those children die as well. If only enough people knew.
We have the resources to prevent this crisis, but we must take action. Fortunately, Hope Through Healing Hands, a nonprofit organization promoting awareness for healthy mothers and children worldwide, is already spreading the word. Not only can we save lives, reduce abortions, and decrease death rates, but also we can help build healthier, thriving families and bring stability and sustainability to families, communities and nations. The question is, will you join them?

Youll Get Through This
$19.99Add to cartYou’ll get through this.
It won’t be painless.
It won’t be quick.
But God will use this mess for good.
Don’t be foolish or naive.
But don’t despair either.
With God’s help, you’ll get through this.
You fear you won’t make it through. We all do. We fear that the depression will never lift, the yelling will never stop, the pain will never leave. In the pits, surrounded by steep walls and aching reminders, we wonder: Will this gray sky ever brighten? This load ever lighten?
In You’ll Get Through This, pastor and New York Times best-selling author, Max Lucado offers sweet assurance. “Deliverance is to the Bible what jazz music is to Mardi Gras: bold, brassy, and everywhere.” Max reminds readers God doesn’t promise that getting through trials will be quick or painless. It wasn’t for Joseph–tossed in a pit by his brothers, sold into slavery, wrongfully imprisoned, forgotten and dismissed–but his Old Testament story is in the Bible for this reason: to teach us to trust God to trump evil.
With the compassion of a pastor, the heart of a storyteller, and the joy of one who has seen what God can do, Max explores the story of Joseph and the truth of Genesis 50:20. What Satan intends for evil, God redeems for good.

Prepare : Living Your Faith In An Increasingly Hostile Culture
$14.99Add to cartMuch like a person who has awaked from a decades-long coma to be introduced to a radically different world, evangelicals are just awakening to the reality that they have lost the culture war in this country.
We are seeing the rapid deterioration and dismantling of a Judean-Christian culture in America – and believers are finding themselves in unfamiliar positions. Values once held sacred are being discarded. Freedoms once offered are being withheld. Biblical absolutes once embraced are being replaced by relativism. Trend lines, unless altered, point to accelerated cultural change and even greater drift from the historic roots of this country.
As a result, there is a growing intolerance towards believers and their message. Increasingly, followers of Jesus are being viewed as narrow, bigoted and hateful.
Yet all of this was predicted by Christ before His departure. Prepare: Living Your Faith in an Increasingly Hostile Culture will set forth a biblical, theological, and practical approach to navigating the challenging days ahead and a reason for hope and optimism – the power of the Gospel and the possibility of societal transformation.

Embracing The Passion
$35.99Add to cartConvention suggests it is best not to talk about faith and politics: this book talks about both! It argues that Jesus was a political figure who championed the rights of the marginalised, the oppressed and voiceless. In this challenging and accessible book, Nigel Pimlott argues young people are often marginalised, oppressed and rarely heard in a world favouring the rich and powerful. Young people are opinionated, passionate about what they think is right and wrong, and are concerned about the world they live in. Yet research indicates young people are disengaged from mainstream political processes where they can express their views – young adults have stopped voting in elections in unprecedented numbers. This is something of a paradox.
Nigel contends that by more effectively equipping Christian youth workers and ministers to do politicking, they will be able to better equip and disciple young people to be more politically engaged in their own contexts. This unique research-based book provides a concise overview of how youth workers might best help young people flourish and realise the common good. It engages those interested in politics – and more importantly – encourages those not interested to get interested and make a difference in the world!

Church In Exile
$32.99Add to cartThe people of God throughout history have been a people of exile and diaspora. Whether under the Assyrians, Babylonians, Greeks or Romans, the people chosen by God have had to learn how to be a holy people in alien lands and under foreign rule. For much of its history, however, the Christian church lived with the sense of being at home in the world, with considerable influence and power. That age of Christendom is now over, and as Lee Beach demonstrates, this is something for which the church should be grateful. The “peace” of Christendom was a false one, and there is no comfortable normalcy to which we can or should return. Drawing on a close engagement with Old Testament and New Testament texts, The Church in Exile offers a biblical and practical theology for the church in a post-Christian age. Beach helps the people of God today to develop a hopeful and prophetic imagination, a theology responsive to its context, and an exilic identity marked by faithfulness to God’s mission in the world.

Power And Vulnerability Of Love
$39.00Add to cartWhat is it about human beings that makes us capable and even desirous of inflicting terrible suffering on others (and ourselves)? If human beings-not God-are the cause of evils such as extreme poverty, violence, and oppression, it is imperative that we probe the depths of the human heart to uncover why we, who are made in the image of Divine Eros, fail so miserably to love. Gandolfo constructs a theological anthropology in response to these pivotal questions. Gandolfo maintains that such an anthropology-and a response to these questions-begins with the condition of human vulnerability. Drawing on women’s experiences of maternity and natality, she argues that vulnerability is a dimension of human existence that causes us great anxiety, which in turn sets in motion tragic attempts by individuals and interest groups to eliminate their own vulnerability at the cost of vulnerable others. Yet, vulnerability not only forms the basis for violence but also affords the possibility of human openness to the redemptive work of divine love. Poised paradoxically between tragic and redemptive vulnerability, human beings need existential resources and empowering practices to cope with and manage our vulnerability in more courageous, peaceful, and compassionate ways.
