  • End Of The Age Study Guide (Student/Study Guide)

    $18.99

There seems to be a particular urgency in the prophetic doom-saying of our modern world . . . a greater sense of somberness. Perhaps this is because end-of-the-world scenarios have gone from Hollywood fodder to real life. Rather than feeling farfetched, the end of the world now seems almost a given for most people. A matter of when rather than if.

In The End of the Age, New York Times bestselling author and pastor John Hagee uses Scripture as a guide to count down the prophetic events that must occur before that moment when every person must face God on Judgment Day. The pages of God’s Word offer a window into the end of history–what Scripture calls the end of the age (Matthew 13:49).

The goal of this study is to look through that window together–not necessarily to make specific predictions about people and places, but to gain wisdom and perspective from the Author of history. In the process, we will see what God has in store for the future so that we can remain ready, speak boldly, and live faithfully to the end.

  • Glory Of God And Paul

    $28.00

The apostle Paul’s theology of glory has its foundations in the biblical drama of creation, fall, redemption, and consummation, and in the identity of Jesus as revealed in his teachings, life, death, and resurrection.

The triune God, who is intrinsically glorious, graciously and joyfully displays his glory, largely through his creation, human image-bearers, providence, and redemptive acts. God’s people respond by glorifying him. God receives glory and, through uniting his people to Christ, he shares his glory with them–all to his eternal glory. Christopher Morgan and Robert Peterson explore the glory of God in Paul’s letters with regard to the Trinity, salvation, the resurrection, the new covenant, the church, eschatology, and the Christian life. God intends his glory to impact many areas of believers’ lives: their gradual transformation from glory to glory (2 Cor 3:18) occurs as they meditate and reflect on the splendor of the Lord.

  • Message Of Judges (Revised)

    $20.00

The book of Judges contains some of the most famous of the Bible’s stories, as well as some of the least known.

They show us the deepest sins of humanity but reveal them in the light of God’s abundant grace. Behind human leaders such as Deborah, Jephthah, and Samson stands the principal actor in this drama: God as Judge, discerning and deciding. Michael Wilcock astutely explores the message of Judges to show that God never abandons his people–then or now. In this Bible Speaks Today commentary, Wilcock illuminates the meaning that Judges still holds for us today as a story of God’s grace. The Judge of all ensures that his people will never manage to destroy themselves, even though it may look as if they are on course for disaster. Part of the loved and trusted Bible Speaks Today series, The Message of Judges offers an insightful, readable exposition of the biblical text and thought-provoking discussion of how it relates to contemporary life. Used by Bible students and teachers around the world, The Bible Speaks Today commentaries are ideal for anyone studying or preaching Scripture and those who want to delve deeper into the text. • Message Of Joshua (Revised)

    $25.00

The book of Joshua tells the action-packed story of Israel’s entry into and conquest of Canaan, the promised land.

Yet it is often troubling for contemporary Christian readers, perhaps more than any other part of the Old Testament: isn’t there too much violence, and isn’t this violence inconsistent with the gospel of Jesus? In The Message of Joshua, David G. Firth explores this story as part of God’s mission, which goes on to find its ultimate focus in Jesus Christ. He illuminates the meaning that the book of Joshua still has for Christians today. It challenges us, just as it challenges those who have read it down through the ages, to recognize that God not only includes those who join him in his mission, but he also excludes those who choose to set themselves against it. Part of the well-loved The Bible Speaks Today series of commentaries, The Message of Joshua offers a clear, readable exposition of the biblical text and thought-provoking discussion of how its meaning relates to contemporary life. Used by Bible students and teachers around the world, The Bible Speaks Today commentaries are ideal for anyone studying or preaching Scripture and those who want to delve deeper into the text. • What Are Christians For

    $22.00

What should a Christian politics look like in our day?

Politics ought to be defined by fidelity to the common good of all the members of society. But our modern Western politics are defined by a determination to bend the natural world and human life to its own political and economic ends. This wholesale rejection of the natural order is behind the dominant revolutions in our history, and defines our experience in Western society today–our racialized hierarchy, modern industry, and the sexual revolution. In What Are Christians For?, Jake Meador lays out a proposal for a Christian politics rooted in the givenness and goodness of the created world. He is uninterested in the cultural wars that have so often characterized American Christianity. Instead, he casts a vision for an ordered society that rejects the late modern revolution at every turn, and is rooted instead in the natural law tradition and in the great Protestant confessions. Here is a politics that is anti-racist, anti-capitalist, and profoundly pro-life. A truly Christian political witness, Meador argues, must attend closely to the natural world and renounce the metallic fantasies that have poisoned common life in America life for too long.

  • Napoleon Hills Positive Influence

    $15.99

Napoleon Hill spent twenty years of his life interviewing the most successful men in America in order to write the first book on the science of personal achievement. In the course of his studies, he developed seventeen success principles. These teachings explain each of them, In order, they are Definiteness of Purpose, the Master Mind Alliance, Going the Extra Mile, Applied Faith, Self-Discipline and Cosmic Habit Force. Hill often referred to these as the most important of the success principles.

Hill and his last wife, Annie Lou, established the Napoleon Hill Foundation 1962, and it continues today to publish his books, videos, audios and lectures. These six lectures were transcribed but never before published and only recently found by the Foundation. The Trustees of the Foundation have chosen the title “Napoleon Hill’s Positive Influence” for this book because these lectures deal with many of the influences which help people to become successful, and which drove Hill to achieve his own successes.

One of Hill’s greatest influences was business tycoon Andrew Carnegie, who commissioned him in 1908 to undertake his twenty-year investigation. During his investigation, he discovered that important positive influences on successful people included having self-discipline, learning from adversity, working in harmony with others, selecting “pace makers”, surrounding oneself with positive books and mottos, being guided by Faith and what Hill called “Infinite Intelligence”, social and physical heredity, and the law of Cosmic Habit force, by which one’s habits become ingrained in one’s personality and character. All of these positive influences are covered in these lectures.

In addition to Andrew Carnegie, a number of individuals were positive influences in Hill’s life, and they too are discussed in the lectures. Those who he knew personally, and who are referenced in the lectures, include Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Franklin Roosevelt, Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Elmer Gates, Alexander Graham Bell and Edwin Barnes. On a more personal level, he speaks fondly of his step-mother and his wives who helped him with his endeavors. We are fortunate to be able to present an Introduction to the book by Napoleon’s grandson, J.B. Hill, and a Preface by Napoleon Hill Foundation Executive Director Don M. Green, both of which explain the important roles played by these women in bringing positive influences to bear on his life and work.

In this updated classic, bestselling author and pastor Max Lucado unpacks the meaning behind John 3:16, one of the best-known and most-beloved passages in the Bible. This simple verse came out of an unusual conversation that Jesus had under the cover of night with a Pharisee named Nicodemus. From the start, Nicodemus made it clear he inhabited a land of good efforts, sincere gestures, and hard work. Give God your best, his philosophy said, and God does the rest. Jesus’ response? Your best won’t do. Your works don’t work. Unless you are born again, you can’t even see what God is doing.

Born again. The word born, by definition, implies a passive act. The enwombed child contributes nothing to the delivery. Postpartum celebrations applaud the work of the mother who does the delivery. And the Greek term that Jesus used for again implies that the one who did the work the first time will repeat it. In other words, the original Creator will re-create his creation! Born: God exerts the effort. Again: God restores the beauty. We don’t try again. We need, not the muscle of self, but a miracle of God.

The thought bewildered Nicodemus. “How can this be?” he asked. Jesus answered by leading him to the Hope diamond of the Bible: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” A twenty-six-word parade of hope: beginning with God, ending with life, and urging us to do the same. A verse brief enough to write on a napkin or memorize in a moment . . . yet solid enough to weather 2,000 years of storms and questions. As this study will reveal, the heart of the human problem is the heart of the human. And God’s treatment for the human heart is prescribed in John 3:16: “He loves. He gave. We believe. We live.”

    The five sessions include:

    1. The Most Famous Conversation in the Bible

Libraries are being ransacked. France is torn apart by war. A French librarian is determined to resist. Told through smuggled letters to an author, an ordinary librarian describes the brutal Nazi occupation of her small coastal village and the extraordinary measures she takes to fight back.

Saint-Malo, France: August 1939. Jocelyn and Antoine are childhood sweethearts, but just after they marry, Antoine is drafted to fight against Germany. As World War II rages, Jocelyn uses her position as a librarian in her town of Saint-Malo to comfort and encourage her community with books. Jocelyn begins to write secret letters smuggled to a famous Parisian author, telling her story in the hope that it will someday reach the outside world.

France falls and the Nazis occupy Jocelyn’s town, turning it into a fortress. The townspeople try passive resistance, but the German commander ruthlessly begins to destroy part of the city’s libraries. Books deemed unsuitable by the Nazis are burnt or stolen, and priceless knowledge is lost.

Risking arrest and even her life, Jocelyn manages to hide some of the books while desperately waiting to receive news from her husband Antoine, now a prisoner in a German camp.

Jocelyn’s mission unfolds in her letters: to protect the people of Saint-Malo and the books they hold so dear. Mario Escobar brings to life the occupied city in sweeping and romantic prose, re-creating the history of those who sacrificed all to care for the people they loved.

Hawkins walks the reader through the many forms of Black protest in American history, from pre-colonial times though the George Floyd protests of 2020. These protests include slave ship mutinies, the abolitionist movement, the different approaches to protest from Frederick Douglas, W. E. B. Dubois, and Booker T. Washington, protest led by various Black institutions, Black Lives Matter movements, and protests of today’s Black athletes, musicians, and intellectuals, such as Lebron James, Beyonce, and Kendrick Lamar. Hawkins also covers the backlash to these protests, including the Jim Crow era, the Red Summer of 1919, and modern-day wars on the Black community in the form of the War on Drugs and voter suppression.

  • Voices Long Silenced

    $40.00

Hundreds of women studied and interpreted the Bible between the years 100-2000 CE, but their stories have remained largely untold. In this book, Schroeder and Taylor introduce readers to the notable contributions of female commentators through the centuries. They unearth fascinating accounts of Jewish and Christian women from diverse communities-rabbinic experts, nuns, mothers, mystics, preachers, teachers, suffragists, and household managers-who interpreted Scripture through their writings. This book recounts the struggles and achievements of women who gained access to education and biblical texts. It tells the story of how their interpretive writings were preserved or, all too often, lost. It also explores how, in many cases, women interpreted Scripture differently from the men of their times. Consequently, Voices Long Silenced makes an important, new contribution to biblical reception history. This book focuses on women’s written words and briefly comments on women’s interpretation in media, such as music, visual arts, and textile arts. It includes short, representative excerpts from diverse women’s own writings that demonstrate noteworthy engagement with Scripture. Voices Long Silencedcalls on scholars and religious communities to recognize the contributions of women, past and present, who interpreted Scripture, preached, taught, and exercised a wide variety of ministries in churches and synagogues.

  • Translating Your Past

    $17.99

Uncover the spiritual strength of your family story.

We all have a desire to learn more about where we’ve come from, and technology has made this more possible than ever. But our family stories are more than a list of DNA results on a piece of paper or a bunch of fading Kodachrome images filling old photo albums.

In an era often marked by both fragmentation in family and culture and a hunger to discover our genetic roots, our family stories–including the difficult, complex ones–can carry great spiritual strength. The desire to trace, interpret, and pass on our family’s history is embedded in Scripture from beginning to end–there are nine genealogies found in the book of Genesis alone. When we bring together the various threads of our family stories with Scripture’s insights, they can provide the key to decoding our identity and helping us discover our place in family, church, and world.
    ?
In Translating Your Past, author Michelle Van Loon helps readers uncover how patterns and gaps in family histories, generational trauma, adoption, genetic clues and surprises, spiritual history, and the church help us translate our own pasts and understand why these stories matter. Each chapter includes questions designed for individual reflection or small group discussion, as well as an appendix of helpful tools readers can use to translate their own pasts and create meaning in order to transform their unique family history into living, faith-filled heritage.

  • Fight Like Jesus

    $17.99

Throughout Holy Week, two competing approaches to peacemaking collide. What if we’ve embraced the wrong one?
    ?
At the start of Holy Week, tears streamed down Jesus’ face as he cried out, “If only you knew the things that make for peace.” From that moment, until a week later when he triumphantly declared, “Peace be with you,” Jesus spent each day confronting injustice, calling out oppressors and contending for peace.

But what if–despite all our familiarity with the events of Holy Week–we still don’t know how Jesus makes peace? And what if–despite clinging to the cross of Christ for our salvation–we’ve actually embraced a different approach to peacemaking? One that justifies killing enemies. One whose methods include nailing criminals to crosses.

We desperately need to recover the radical vision of peacemaking that Jesus embodied throughout Holy Week. And we urgently need to be trained in his way of making peace. So, come. Let’s journey together day-by-day through Jesus’ final week and discover anew why he is called the Prince of Peace.

Can we be sure of God? Do we trust his purposes and promises?

Biblical confidence doesn’t mean we won’t ever shed tears or have doubts. It certainly doesn’t mean that we’ll grow in popularity or assertiveness. But it does mean that we can trust God’s character and his Word.

Trusted Bible teachers Alistair Begg, Steve Brady, Raymond Brown, Andrew Dow, Jonathan Lamb, Alex Motyer, Hugh Palmer, Vaughan Roberts and Keith Weston unpack this theme. See that God is who he says he is, and that what he says, he means, even on our darkest days.

So, even when we suffer, or our prayers appear unanswered, or it feels like God isn’t in control, we can still trust him. Our confidence is rock solid, whatever life throws at us.

Life, Death and Afterlife Throughout the Bible

Alfonso Perez Ranchal in his book LIFE, DEATH AND AFTERLIFE THROUGHOUT THE BIBLE, frames these terms in the concept of progressive revelation.

He frames these terms in the concept of progressive revelation, indicating that God was making known His will and purposes as time progressed. In this progression, the Israelite people went through moments of great historical importance marked by divine actions and messages. At times, all this meant new ways of understanding God; at others, the protagonists or recipients had to make a whole new reflection on history and their own lives in the face of what they now knew of the Creator.

Unfortunately, this progressive revelation is often left aside when it comes to biblical studies or in one’s own d

  • Madison Park : A Place Of Hope

    $19.99

Welcome to Madison Park, a small community in Alabama founded by freed slaves in 1880. And meet Eric Motley, a native son who came of age in this remarkable place where constant lessons in self-determination, hope, and unceasing belief in the American dream taught him everything he needed for his journey to the Oval Office as a special assistant to President George W. Bush.

Eric grew up among people whose belief was to give and never turn away from your neighbor’s need. There was Aunt Shine, the goodly matriarch who cared so much about young Motley’s schooling that she would stand up in a crowded church and announce Eric’s progress or his shortcomings. There was Old Man Salery, who secretly siphoned gasoline from his beat-up car into the Motleys’ tank at night. There were Motley’s grandparents, who bought books for Eric they couldn’t afford, spending the last of their seed money. And there was Reverend Brinkley, a man of enormous faith and simple living. It was said that whenever the Reverend came your way, light abounded. Life in Madison Park wasn’t always easy or fair, and Motley reveals personal and heartbreaking stories of racial injustice and segregation. But Eric shows how the community taught him everything he needed to know about love and faith.

This charming, engaging, and deeply inspiring memoir will help you remember that we can create a world of shared values based on love and hope. It is a story that reveals the amazing power of faith in God and each other. If you’re in search of hope during troubled times, look no further than Madison Park.

  • When God Changed His Mind

    $17.99

“Isaiah. Isaiah! Get up, son! Isaiah! You have to get up! Get off the floor! I can’t stop!”

I reached one hand behind me and shook him the best I could while driving. My heart pounded, and my body trembled. What could be so wrong that he can’t control his body?

Things go downhill quickly after Christina Custodio picks up her thirteen-year-old son early from football practice due to a headache. By the time she arrives, he has little control of his body and quickly becomes unresponsive. Soon, he is rushed into surgery, his brain filled with blood from a severe brain hemorrhage.

From the time he was born, Christina had always felt Isaiah would die young. Though a typical boy with no health issues, the thought always lingered. Now Christina begs God to change His mind and save her son’s life.

When God Changed His Mind chronicles Christina’s inspiring and emotional story of trusting God through the unknown, peace among the chaos, and joy in the midst of sorrow. Grateful that Isaiah survives but unsure he will ever recover his speech and mobility, Christina shares of her dependence on God during the ups and downs of their journey, the power of prayer, and her determination to use challenges and struggles for His glory.

  • Calvinism For A Secular Age

    $28.00

Abraham Kuyper, the Dutch Neo-Calvinist theologian, pastor, and politician, was well-known for having declared that there is not a square inch of human existence over which Jesus Christ is not its sovereign Lord.

This principle is perhaps best reflected in Kuyper’s writings on Calvinism originally delivered as the Stone Lectures in 1898 at Princeton Theological Seminary. These lectures reflecting on the role of the Christian faith in a variety of social spheres–including religion, politics, science, and art–have become a touchstone for contemporary Reformed theology. How might the lectures continue to inform the church’s calling in a secular age? In this volume, Jessica Joustra and Robert Joustra bring together theologians, historians, scientists, and others to revisit Kuyper’s original lectures and to critically consider both his ongoing importance and his complex legacy for today.

  • Covenantal And Dispensational Theologies

    $30.00

How does the canon of Scripture fit together?

For evangelical Christians, there is no question about the authority of Scripture and its testimony to the centrality of Jesus Christ in God’s salvation plan. But several questions remain: How do the Old Testament and New Testament relate to each other? What is the relationship among the biblical covenants? How should Christians read and interpret Scripture in order to do justice to both its individual parts and its whole message? How does Israel relate to the church? In this volume in IVP Academic’s Spectrum series, readers will find four contributors who explore these complex questions. The contributors each make a case for their own view–representing two versions of covenantal theology and two versions of dispensational theology–and then respond to the others’ views to offer an animated yet irenic discussion on the continuity of Scripture. Views and Contributors:

*Covenant Theology: Michael S. Horton, Gresham Machen Professor of Systematic Theology and Apologetics, Westminster Seminary California

*Progressive Covenantalism: Stephen J. Wellum, professor of Christian theology, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

*Progressive Dispensationalism: Darrell L. Bock, Senior Research Professor of New Testament Studies, Dallas Theological Seminary

  • Samaritan Womans Story

    $24.00

Most Christians have heard a familiar description of the Samaritan woman in John 4: she was a sinner, an adulteress, even a prostitute.

Throughout church history, the woman at the well has been seen narrowly in terms of her gender and marital history. What are we missing in the story? And what difference does our interpretation of this passage make for women and men in the church? Caryn A. Reeder calls us to see the Samaritan woman in a different light. Beginning with the reception history of John 4, she pulls back layers of interpretation entangled with readers’ assumptions on women and sexuality. She then explores the story’s original context, describing life for women and expectations regarding marriage and divorce in the first century. With this clarified lens, Reeder’s exegesis of the passage yields refreshing insights on what the Gospel says–and does not say–about the woman at the well. Throughout the book, Reeder draws connections between interpretations of this text and the life of the church. The sexual objectification of the Samaritan woman and minimization of her positive contribution has ongoing consequences for how women are seen and treated–including in the failure of many Christian communities to respond well to accusations of abuse. In the age of #MeToo and #ChurchToo, The Samaritan Woman’s Story offers a bold challenge to teach the Bible in a way that truly honors the value and voices of women.

  • Jonathan Edwards And Deification

    $40.00

The doctrine of deification or theosis is typically associated with the Eastern Orthodox tradition.

Indeed, the language of participation in the divine nature as a way to understand salvation often sounds like strange music in the ears of Western Christians despite passages like 2 Peter 1:4 where it appears. However, recent scholarship has argued that the theologies of some of the most prominent figures in the history of the Western church, including Martin Luther, John Calvin, and John Wesley, share more in common with deification than has been acknowledged. In this volume of IVP Academic’s New Explorations in Theology series, theologian James Salladin considers the role of deification in the theology of another well-known Western theologian: Jonathan Edwards. In addition, he reflects upon the question of how Edwards’s soteriology compares with the rest of the broader Reformed tradition. Here, we discover how Edwards’s theology affirms what it means for sinners to be brought into the hands of a loving God.

  • Attacking Anxiety : From Panicked And Depressed To Alive And Free

    $19.99

Shawn Johnson, lead pastor of Red Rocks Church, gives a searingly honest portrait of anxiety and depression and shows readers how to fight back and live free.

Shawn Johnson was the lead pastor of a thriving, fast-growing church. He was supposed to have it all together. But he was also struggling in silence with anxiety and depression, suffering from debilitating panic attacks that told him the lie that this would never end, that he’d spend the rest of his life in excruciating pain. Until one day he ended up sobbing and screaming on the side of the road. He had to be brought home by his wife and two friends, who removed any potential weapons from his house while he sat with his head in his hands, begging God for a miracle.

In Attacking Anxiety, Shawn vulnerably shares about this dark time and offers those familiar with that same struggle everything he’s learned in his battles with anxiety, depression, and hopelessness. As readers join Shawn on this journey, he will:

    *expose the lies that lead toward isolation and replace them with the truths that are essential to survival;

    *reveal the things that most people don’t realize are adding more anxiety and depression to their lives and replace them with the wisdom and support that lead to true freedom;

*explain what to do when you, or someone you love, is in the middle of a panic attack, and

*guide you through what you need to know, what you need to start doing, what you need to stop doing, and what you need to remember in order to start attacking anxiety and depression.

This is not a one-and-done process that will completely free you from all brokenness, but it will help you recognize that, even in the middle of so much brokenness and overwhelming pain, God has a plan and a purpose for your life, and he is ready to heal you in ways you never thought possible.

Whether you are a Christian, a doubter, or someone exploring the Bible for the first time, in this six-session video study bestselling author Dan Kimball guides you step-by-step in how to make sense of the most misunderstood, difficult, and disturbing Bible passages related to women, science, violence, slavery, and world religions. Filled with stories, visual illustrations, and memes reflecting popular cultural objections, How (Not) to Read the Bible is a lifeline for individuals who are confused or discouraged with questions about the Bible. • Faith Unhindered : Finding The Freedom To Trust God Completely

    $12.99

Sometimes during the upheavals of life, it feels as if there’s nothing to help you through your hardships, and the what-ifs and why-nots can hinder your faith. Pastor’s wife Debbie Ashley knows right where you are-she’s been there. Using her personal story as an example, she walks you through how to fully trust God during the most difficult times.

After Debbie became a wife and mom, she wanted to maintain the carefree family life of her childhood-and then her son was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Overcome by the major readjustment in their lives, she grappled to find a faith that worked. But her spiritual well was dry. Where was God when these challenging things happened, and why didn’t He stop them?

Her Bible study Faith Unhindered: Finding the Freedom to Trust God Completely identifies eight specific life experiences that can cause women to stop believing God will help them:

    – disappointment
    – distraction
    – the past
    – fear
    – loss
    – rejection
    – criticism
    – bitterness

Each chapter explores a woman in the Bible who experienced that same emotional challenge and then considers how she replenished her spiritual well, paving the way to understanding, acceptance, and application. With tools designed to strengthen women’s faith in God, this book includes study questions and journaling responses to document the discovery journey. A leader’s guide is available to facilitate small group discussion.

Don’t let your faith be hindered by life’s trials. Begin your spiritual trek today toward a refreshing wellspring of faith in God.

  • You Need A Better Gospel

    $39.99

Too often, the church hasn’t done justice to its own gospel because it has neglected how much the New Testament message is about deep involvement in life with God. Senior New Testament scholar Klyne Snodgrass offers a corrective, explaining that the church will never be what it is supposed to be without a recovery of the gospel.

This brief, accessibly written, and timely book shows that the biblical message is about attachment to Christ, participation in his death and resurrection, and engagement in his purposes. Snodgrass demonstrates that understanding and appropriating the gospel of participation conforms with what the church’s great thinkers have emphasized throughout history and enables the church to recover its true identity.

This book brings the notion of participation in the gospel to a wider church audience. While other studies on this topic focus mostly on Paul’s writings, You Need a Better Gospel shows that participation is the emphasis of the entire Bible, including the Old Testament. The real gospel, which offers participation in life with God, is astounding in its beauty and its power for life.

  • Disarmed : The Radical Life And Legacy Of Michael MJ Sharp

    $29.99

A powerful story of one man’s radical commitment to peacemaking.

At 34 years old, Michael “MJ” Sharp was working for the United Nations Group of Experts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo–urging rebels to lay down their weapons–when he was murdered, likely assassinated alongside his colleague Zaida Catalan by those with government ties. This compelling account of MJ’s life, death, and legacy from longtime journalist Marshall V. King explores what compelled Sharp to travel the world working for peace and the ongoing impact of his life and death in the ongoing story of Christian peacemaking in a war-torn world.

MJ was a modern Mennonite armed with wit and intellect, but not a gun. The son of a Mennonite pastor, he demonstrated a gift for listening and persuading early in life. His efforts to approach others with acknowledgement rather than judgement gave him the ability to connect on a level very few managed. He also honed a deep commitment to peace, and after college he joined the Mennonite Mission Network and moved to Germany, where he persuaded soldiers to choose peace and free them of their violent systems.

  • Father Abrahams Many Children

    $19.99

Reframing religious diversity through the stories of Cain, Ishmael, and Esau

The way we read the Bible matters for the way we engage the pluralistic world around us. For instance, if we understand the book of Genesis as narrowly focused on primary characters like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph, we’ll miss the larger story and end up with the impression that God only cares about those who are “chosen.” In fact, the narratives of marginalized biblical characters reveal that God protects and provides for them also. What might this mean for Christians living in a world of religious difference today?

In Father Abraham’s Many Children, Tyler Mayfield reflects on the stories of three of the most significant “other brothers” in the Bible–namely, on God’s continued engagement with Cain after he murders Abel, Ishmael’s circumcision as a sign of God’s covenant, and Esau’s reconciliation with Jacob. From these stories, Mayfield draws out a more generous theology of religious diversity, so that Christians might be better equipped to authentically love their neighbors of multiple faith traditions–as God loves, and has always loved, all humanity.

  • Freeing Congregational Mission

    $26.00

There is a deepening crisis in mission as practiced by North American congregations.

Many mission activities are more effective at satisfying church members than making a lasting difference, producing what’s too often consumer-oriented selfie mission. Too much effort is based on colonial-era assumptions of mission launched from a position of power. These practices are not just ineffective–they deviate from mission in the way of Jesus. Hunter Farrell and Bala Khyllep want to help free congregational mission from harmful cultural forces so churches can better partner with God’s work in the world. They invite leaders to lay the foundation for more faithful and effective missions with three core elements:

*a Christ-centered theology of mission rooted in companionship
*an appetite and competence to engage across differences with cultural humility
*insights and strategies to accompany local and global neighbors in co-development

Farrell and Khyllep deliver key takeaways from the latest mission research, inspiring examples from innovative congregations, and a set of step-by-step tools for churches to discern and implement sound practices that will work for them. The local church community is well-positioned to build a spreading circle of relationships centered in Jesus Christ. With this book, congregations of every Christian tradition will find practical help to direct their resources in truly life-giving ways as they seek the mission of God.

    $20.00

Where do we come from? What is our purpose? The key to how and why we are is found in the early chapters of Genesis.

In The Message of Genesis 1-11, David Atkinson explores how the first eleven chapters serve as an overture to the rest of the Bible. They evoke wonder as God is portrayed in his creative power and beauty. They reveal God’s loving mercy and salvation, even in his terrible judgment of those who turn from him and despoil the harmony of creation. With vivid insight, this Bible Speaks Today commentary illuminates how the meaning of Genesis is still resonant today–helping us understand both the greatness and the tragic flaw inherent in human beings. Although it was written thousands of years ago, the message of Genesis is one of timely urgency for the modern world: we are responsible participants in God’s creation who must, like Noah, confront the possibility of global catastrophe. • Case For Classical Christian Education

    $21.99

Published almost twenty years ago, Douglas Wilson’s Case for Classical Christian Education is a call for parents and educators to do more than just teach kids how to read or to do math and science. Instead, parents and teachers need to educate children’s minds, hearts, and imaginations.

Both homeschooling parents and Christians seeking to build schools will find a lot of guidance from this book. Wilson explains the benefits of an education that is both distinctively classical and distinctively Christian, and explains what such an education might look like. He also draws on years of educating and pastoring to talk about how parents and teachers can manage schools well and train their children’s hearts.

Education is not just preparing kids for the job market, but should be about instilling discipline, character, and love for God and the world He has made.

  • Pastoral Ministry : How To Shepherd Biblically

    $29.99

Pastor John MacArthur combines his passion for the Bible with the training expertise of faculty members at The Master’s Seminary to guide seminary students and ministry leaders in developing their pastoral ministry skills.

Pastors today can easily become preoccupied with the many pitfalls of modern culture, buying into the idea of image and straying from Jesus’s call to shepherd leadership.

Pastoral Ministry: How to Shepherd Biblically presents a practical pastoral theology aimed at showing pastors and pastors-in-training the vital role God’s word plays in shaping the preparation and maintaining the priorities of pastoring.

The authors examine the biblical teaching about the high and demanding call to ministry required of any spiritual shepherd. You’ll learn how to pursue intentional growth through the stages of calling, training, and ministering to God’s church–along the way, uncovering answers to questions such as:

*How does the Bible establish a philosophy of pastoral ministry, and what is it?
*Who is personally qualified to be an undershepherd of God’s flock?
*What are the biblical preparations required of shepherd leaders?
*What priority does God’s word place on activities involved in pastoral ministry?

United in affirming shepherd leadership as the biblical model for pastoral ministry, The Master’s Seminary faculty contributes a treasury of expertise alongside insights from well-known Bible teacher John MacArthur.

This book will inspire any pastor dedicated to serving God’s church in the pattern of Jesus Christ.

  • Disarmed : The Radical Life And Legacy Of Michael MJ Sharp

    $17.99

  • Overcoming Familiar Spirits

    $16.99

Have You Invited Demonic Enemies into Your Life? Many Christians are being tormented by unseen demonic powers called “familiar spirits” that operate inconspicuously within the fabric of people’s thoughts, emotions, and mindsets-working so secretly that they usually remain undetected. These demonic spirits can be attached to specific individuals, families, or bloodlines. Familiar spirits hinder believers’ lives in numerous ways, diminishing their spiritual vision and seeking to prevent them from fulfilling their destinies. They may block people’s ability to overcome negative patterns, attain lasting success, and even marry and conceive children. Without realizing it, we can invite such unseen enemies into our lives. We may have left open a door to their influence due to personal trauma, unforgiveness, bitterness, or false thinking. Then, we become trapped in a type of spiritual debt. We are restricted from being fully free in Christ so that we constantly live with frustration, worry, anger, or a feeling of hopelessness.Overcoming Familiar Spirits by pastor and teacher Dr. Kynan Bridges powerfully exposes Satan’s demonic agenda so you can be set free. You will learn to detect familiar spirits like the spirits of sabotage, calamity, premature death, delay, and perversion. You will gain a fresh revelation of who you are in Christ and your authority as a believer and be equipped with the tools to enjoy lasting freedom. Through his books, preaching, and counseling, Dr. Bridges has shown thousands of believers how to address hindrances in their lives. • Raising The Sparks

    $19.00

Raising the Sparks, Jennifer Wallace’s sixth poetry collection, is inspired by the alignment of Christian and Judaic traditions. The idea of raising the sparks, tikkun olam, comes from 16th century mystical Judaism–the belief that, if people worked to “gather or raise the sparks” from the sacred vessels that shattered at the moment of creation, a repair of the world from its initial splitting would be complete. It is the duty of each one of us to raise the sparks from wherever they are imprisoned and to elevate them to holiness. Also informing this work is the Jesuit idea of finding God in all things and conversing (without clerical intervention) directly with Jesus. The poems in this collection engage with these theological traditions by witnessing the human joys and challenges of attending to their mandates.

  • God Behaving Badly (Expanded)

    $18.00

    God has a bad reputation.

Many think of God as wrathful and angry, smiting people right and left for no apparent reason. The Old Testament in particular seems at times to portray God as capricious and malevolent, wiping out armies and nations, punishing enemies with extreme prejudice. But wait. The story is more complicated than that. Alongside troubling passages of God’s punishment and judgment are pictures of God’s love, forgiveness, goodness, and slowness to anger. How do we make sense of the seeming contradiction? Can God be trusted or not? David Lamb unpacks the complexity of the Old Testament to explore the character of God. He provides historical and cultural background to shed light on problematic passages and bring underlying themes to the fore. Without minimizing the sometimes harsh realities of the biblical record, Lamb assembles an overall portrait that gives coherence to our understanding of God in both the Old and New Testaments. This expanded edition includes an updated preface, afterword, and appendix addressing the story of Noah and the flood.

  • Centered Set Church

    $24.00

Christians can be adept at drawing lines, determining what it means to be a good Christian and judging those who stray out of bounds.

Other times they erase all the lines in favor of a vague and inoffensive faith. Both impulses can come from positive intentions, but either can lead to stunted spiritual life and harmful relationships. Is there another option? The late missionary anthropologist Paul Hiebert famously drew on mathematical theory to deploy the concepts of bounded, fuzzy, and centered sets to shed light on the nature of Christian community. Now, with Centered-Set Church, Mark D. Baker provides a unique manual for understanding and applying Hiebert’s vision. Drawing on his extensive experience in church, mission, parachurch, and higher education settings, along with interviews and stories gleaned from scores of firsthand interviews, Baker delivers practical guidance for any group that seeks to be truly centered on Jesus. Baker shows how Scripture presents an alternative to either obsessing over boundaries or simply erasing them. Centered churches are able to affirm their beliefs and live out their values without such bitter fruit as gracelessness, shame, and self-righteousness on the one hand, or aimless whateverism on the other. While addressing possible concerns and barriers to the centered approach, Baker invites leaders to imagine centered alternatives in such practical areas of ministry as discipleship, church membership, leadership requirements, and evangelism. Centered-Set Church charts new paths to grow in authentic freedom and dynamic movement toward the true center: Jesus himself.

  • Heart Of Racial Justice

    $18.00

Racial and ethnic hostility is one of the most pervasive problems the church faces.

It hinders our effectiveness as one body of believers. It damages our witness. Why won’t this problem just go away? Because it is a spiritual battle. What should our response be in a world torn apart by prejudice, hatred, and fear? We must employ spiritual weapons–prayer, repentance, forgiveness. In this book Brenda Salter McNeil and Rick Richardson reveal a model of racial reconciliation, social justice, and spiritual healing that creates both individual and community transformation. Read this book if you want to learn how to:

*use your faith as a force for change, not as a smoke screen for self-protection
*embrace your true self and renounce false racial identities
*receive and extend forgiveness as an act of racial reconciliation
*experience personal transformation through the healing of painful racial memories
*engage in social action by developing ongoing crosscultural partnerships
