Mission In The Old Testament (Expanded)
$22.00Add to cartWalter Kaiser questions the notion that the New Testament represents a deviation from God’s supposed intention to save only the Israelites. He argues that–contrary to popular opinion–the older Testament does not reinforce an exclusive redemptive plan. Instead, it emphasizes a common human condition and God’s original and continuing concern for all humanity. Kaiser shows that the Israelites’ mission was always to actively spread to gentiles the Good News of the promised Messiah. This new edition adds two new chapters, freshens material throughout, expands the bibliography, and adds study questions to the text.

Preaching And Teaching The Last Things
$27.00Add to cartDistinguished Old Testament scholar Walter Kaiser believes that the Old Testament is sorely neglected today in teaching and preaching, but it is even more neglected when it comes to setting forth the hope that Christians have for the future. Firmly believing that the Old Testament offers important insights into biblical eschatology and the Christian life, he provides guidance for expositing fifteen key Old Testament eschatological passages to preachers, teachers, and Bible students. Each chapter focuses on a single biblical text. Kaiser introduces the topic, examines the issues, notes who has contributed to some of the solutions, and shows how this sets up the text to be exegeted and prepared for exposition.

Hacia Una Teologia Del Antiguo – (Spanish)
$17.99Add to cartDiscover a new the panorama of the Old Testament as Walter Kaiser explores the theology that grew and developed from Genesis to Malachi. Kaiser bares the bedrock of our faith by examining what the texts themselves say without the superimposition of philosophies, pre-suppositions, or theological systems. Instead he shows the actual theological world that each writer inhabited and how they combined their theological inheritance from earlier writers and prophets with the new and sometimes surprising revelation they received for application to the circumstances and needs of their own epoch. This is a book with theological meat that should have a place in the library of every serious Bible student, seminarian and pastor. This book is the cornerstone for developing an exegesis, an exposition, a proclamation and a systematic theology. Here are the issues, the conflicts and the possibility of a real beginning for a genuine biblical theology. Dr. Kaiser tests his approach by chronologically discussing the texts from each of the Old Testament eras from creation to the postexilic period. A special section examines the connections between the Old and New Testament theology.

Each writes from a solid evangelical stance. In addition, the contributors respond to each other’s views. Five Views on Sanctification addresses practical questions such as: How does one achieve sanctification in this life? And how much success in sanctification is possible? Is a crisis experience following one’s conversion normal — or necessary? If so, what kind of experience, and how is it verified?

Toward Old Testament Ethics
$25.99Add to cartBiblical ethics is a subject that has been almost totally neglected in this century. Only six men have written a major work on Old Testament ethics in the last hundred years, and only two of these works, both written before 1900, are in English. This lack of materials on Old Testament ethics serves to underscore the significance of Walter Kaiser’s Toward Old Testament Ethics. Dr. Kaiser has no illusions about providing a simple solution to questions of Old Testament ethics. He is familiar with the complexities of this subject and begins his work in Part I by addressing such questions as: How can ethics be defined? Is there an overarching structure to ethics as presented in the Old Testament, or is there only an unrelated series of laws? Do ethics of the Old Testament have any relevance for us today? What are the exegetical principles to be used in a study of Old Testament ethics? Part II examines the moral texts of the Old Testament, in particular the Decalogue, the book of the covenant (Exodus 20:22–23:33), and the law of holiness (Leviticus 18–20). Dr. Kaiser unfolds the intention of these various laws, showing how they relate to each other and form a framework for ethics. Part III explores the content of Old Testament ethics, namely, how holiness relates to worship, work, relationship, social justice, the sanctity of life, marriage and sex, wealth, use of the truth, and motives for action. Moral difficulties in the Old Testament present stumbling blocks to many who read these books. How are we to relate to a God who, at times, seems fickle, deceptive, and hateful? How are we to champion the offensive view of women and slaves, the particulars of God choosing Israel, and the imprecations that appear from time to time in the biblical texts? Reponses to these and other difficulties from Part IV. The book concludes with a discussion of Old Testament law and New Testament believers. Dr. Kaiser shows how these laws, written thousands of years ago, still challenge God’s people to live holy lives.
