  • Lessons From David

    $14.99

Probably one of the most well- known characters in the Bible is David. He grew up a shepherd boy and defeated a giant named Goliath and then went on to be King of Israel. While king, David made some serious mistakes. However, David didn’t try to place the blame on other people. He took responsibility and shouldered the blame himself. By doing this, he was described by God as a man after His own heart . In this book, you will learn that God has a good plan for every individual. But sometimes you can thwart that plan by your own desire to fulfill certain desires and dreams but God’s grace can bring you back to the plan that God has for you. Even though David made some mistakes and even cost people their lives, he repented and was able to turn the direction of those mistakes to want to serve the Lord. God’s grace is evident through the entire life of David. Rather than having to go through your own hard knocks, the author encourages the reader to learn from these life lessons from David and take hold to the truth of God’s word.

  • Covenant Bible Study Leader Guide (Teacher’s Guide)

    $28.99

This Covenant experience will guide participants in a comprehensive, in-depth study of the Bible over twenty-four weeks. Unlike the learning participants may have experienced in other groups, this in-depth study of the whole Bible emphasizes the biblical concept of covenant as a unifying pattern through all the books in the Old and New Testaments. It underscores the unique relationship that God chooses to have with us as God’s people. This relationship is grounded in the faithfulness of God’s love and on our ongoing commitment to stay in love with God while we share signs of that love with others. The Leader Guide contains comprehensive and detailed direction for each meeting experience. While each group’s chemistry will vary, the Leader Guide contains the following elements: The Group Meeting Experience – Each Covenant Bible Study episode follows the same essential structure by balancing conversational teaching from biblical experts with engaging discussion among the participants. Covenant is designed so that the meaning of the Bible isn’t found in just listening to a biblical scholar or listening to one’s own inner voice. Only through conversation in community, in the Covenant Group Meeting Experience, can we discover the Bible’s transformative power. During some weeks the group might be so full of energy and questions that conversation leaves less time for the video. That’s okay. The spiritual energy that wakes up and transforms a life is the most important result from this kind of Bible study. Gathering Together (10 min) – The opening questions of this segment in each episode are designed to prompt conversation on a general topic that connects to the main theme of the episode. Begin by reading the scriptures in the Covenant Prayer section for the episode. Have one person say the phrase, “For those who . . .” and then the whole group responds by reading the scripture passage aloud. Reflecting Together (10 min) – This segment guides participants to share what they learned from the week’s scripture readings with questions that tie their discoveries into a central theme. The study also encourages participants to memorize and share verses from the readings that they found particularly meaningful. Video Segment (25 min) – Play the video for the current episode. The cohosts for this opening conversation are Reverend Shane Stanford, senior pastor at Christ United Methodist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, and Reverend Christine Chakoian, seni

  • My Soul Thirsts For God

    $14.99

Every Christian yearns to have that strong, spiritual relationship with God; a relationship where whatever petitions are on one’s mind are immediately received and handled by the Heavenly Father.

Connecting with God must be developed on a foundation of prayer, dialoguing with God and listening for His still small voice to provide guidance, direction and love.

Author Linda Darlington understood the importance of adopting a resilient prayer life, one that overcomes struggle and distraction as it gives hope and encouragement in personal and/or corporate situations.

Her comprehensive Bible study on prayer, entitled My Soul Thirsts for God, journeys into the different aspects and characteristics of prayer.

Encompassed into seventeen Bible study sessions, the prayer focus begins with why people pray to how one can create meaningful prayers for families, missions and even the nation.

As we begin this communion with the Lord, He expands our prayer lives beyond ourselves and our families to His Kingdom building, our churches, cities, states, nation, missionaries, the hurting and needy. The foundation of all prayer is our love relationship with the Lord, and that grows as we commune with Him through prayer and He works in our lives.

Each session begins with a biblical-minded explanation about a specific focus of prayer, followed by scripture references and activities for group discussion or individual reflection.

By cultivating one’s prayer life through Bible study and quiet time with God, one becomes more cognizant of God’s clear intentions and guiding hand in building a greater spiritual relationship with Him.

  • Leaving Ordinary : Encounter God Through Extraordinary Prayer

    $19.99

God desires an intimate relationship with each of us. But, we wonder, how can a person have such a relationship with a holy God? It is one thing to be in awe of Him, but quite another to be intimate with Him.

In Leaving Ordinary, Donna Gaines delves into this issue by exploring the notion of extraordinary prayer. How does Scripture define “intimacy” as it relates to our relationship with God? God gave the Israelites the tabernacle, a temporary and portable dwelling for His glory, and taught them how to approach and worship Him before He led them to their reward-the promised land. Using the tabernacle and its articles (altar, lampstands, etc.) as a guide, Donna teaches readers how to interact with God in that secret place of true intimacy that leads to worship.

Your ordinary daily practice of prayer can become an extraordinary encounter with the living God. Leaving Ordinary is essential reading for women who desire a more intimate relationship with God. Features include:Tools for gaining a stronger, more intimate relationship with GodAn exploration of the tabernacle as it relates to prayer today The definition of “intimacy” as it relates to God.

Christians all agree that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, authoritative Word of God, that Jesus is the virgin born Son of God, that salvation is by grace through faith in what Jesus accomplished when he shed His precious blood on the cross, that God is the Creator of all things, and that the new birth is absolutely essential for one to enter heaven. From time to time questions about other matters arise. Spiritual Gifts is one of those issues. “Spiritual Gifts Verse by Verse: A Commentary on I Corinthians 12-14” explains the clear meaning of the most complete Biblical discussion of this subject in the New Testament.

  • People Of The Passion (Student/Study Guide)

    $12.95

It is a simple theological truth: We become more like Jesus when we draw close to him. People of the Passion unpacks this tenet in a powerful examination of some of the main characters of Jesus’ final days: Mary, Mother of Jesus; Mary Magdalene; Pilate; Nicodemus; Peter; and Judas. Throughout each chapter, Dr. Randall explores our perceptions and our knowledge of these individuals, pointing out how each played significant roles in exposing themes of faithfulness, gratitude, conflict, power, and betrayal.

People of the Passion calls us to embrace the “grace and opportunity of Lent,” for when we pause to examine our hearts and spirits within our collective narrative of fallen humanity, we are reminded that “we are an Easter people.” And in this, we celebrate Christ’s resurrection, understanding that everything about our redemption hinges upon the most significant event in human history: Easter morning.

  • Cure : Prescription For Life

    $12.99

Throughout human history, mankind’s greatest struggle has been our willingness to admit our need for God. (Psalm 14:1)
    – Our failure to recognize our need for God has led to a deep spiritual sickness. (Psalm 14:2-3)
    – Until we accept that we have this disease, we won’t recognize our need to find “The Cure.” (Matthew 5:3)

In the section of Scripture known as “The Beatitudes”, Jesus lays out principles that work much like a doctor diagnosing cancer. By demonstrating the vast difference between the heart of God and the heart of man, He reveals both the depth of our spiritual sickness, as well as the folly of trying to live without God. Like a person who is sick with cancer, it is not until you receive your diagnosis, and accept the fact you have a terminal disease, that you become willing to take the steps necessary to find “The Cure” for your condition. This book explores an important spiritual truth: Once we accept the reality of God’s diagnosis, the only hope of getting better is “The Cure” that Jesus offers!

Find the strength to fight the battles you know you need to fight—the ones that determine the state of your heart, the quality of your marriage, and the spiritual health of your family. The battles that make you dependent on God as the source of your strength. The battles that make you come alive. Craig looks at the life of Samson, showing how much we have in common with this guy. To understand the Bible, says author and pastor Randy Frazee, you need bifocal lenses, because two perspectives are involved. The Lower Story, our story, is actually many stories of men and women interacting with God in the daily course of life. The Upper Story is God’s story, the tale of his great, overarching purpose that fits all the individual stories together like panels in one unified mural. Bestselling author Max Lucado also adds some introductory insights. The Story of Jesus DVD (sold separately) and Participant’s Guide are designed for use by individuals as well as groups of all sizes, including small groups and Sunday school and adult education classes. The Story of Jesus Participant’s Guide includes DVD teaching notes, discussion questions, between session personal experiences, and also includes seven chapters of the full text of The Story hardcover book as it relates to Jesus, from his birth to the beginning of the church.

  • Sessions With Colossians And Philemon (Student/Study Guide)

    $12.00

Sessions with Colossians and Philemon is a ten-session study unit designed to provide a compelling preview to these two of Paul’s letters. Each session is followed by a thought-provoking page of questions that allow for a deeper experience of the scriptural passages. These resource pages can be used by seminar leaders during preparation and group discussion, as well as in individual Bible study. Eric Porterfield takes readers on a journey through Paul’s letters to the Colossians and to Philemon. These letters celebrate the good news that God is on the move in the world through Jesus Christ, shaping the world into what it was created to be. This movement will one day be complete when Christ returns to fully establish the kingdom of God. Until that day we work for the kingdom, give witness to it, and invite others to enter it through faith in Christ. Paul’s letters equipped their original audiences and they equip us to be “on the move with God” as faithful kingdom workers.

  • A Cappella Music in the Public Worship of the Church

    $8.99

This book employs a methodology that I have found helpful in dealing with other topics. This procedure is to assemble the New Testament texts on the topic and interpret them, then check this interpretation against usage in early Christian literature outside the New Testament, and finally to examine the doctrinal considerations to determine if the interpretation rests on solid biblical theology. Rather than gathering quotations from secondary literature, my approach is to read the source documents in the original and present the texts in their context. At the time of first edition of the book, mine was the fullest collection of historical statements on early church music readily available. Other studies since that time are largely supportive of the historical facts presented in my work, even if the authors do not consider the evidence normative for today. My conclusion is that the practice of unaccompanied congregational singing rests on good biblical, historical and doctrinal grounds.

  • Dictionary Of Jesus And The Gospels (Revised)

    $70.00

The second edition of the Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels is a thoroughly reconstructed and revised version of the critically acclaimed 1992 first edition. Since that groundbreaking volume was published, a wave of Jesus and Gospel scholarship has crested and broken on the shores of a new century. Jesus has been proposed as sage, shaman, revolutionary, marginal Jew, Mediterranean peasant or a prophet of Israel’s restoration. The non-canonical Gospels have been touted, examined and reassessed. There are revised understandings of historiography, orality, form criticism, empire and more. The second edition of the DJG amply weighs and assess the gains and shortcomings of this new scholarship. Here is a self-contained reference library of information and perspective essential to exploring Jesus and the Gospels. This volume bridges the gap between scholars and those pastors, teachers, students and interested readers who want thorough treatments of key topics in an accessible and summary format. Articles cover each Gospel, major themes in the Gospels, key episodes in the life of Jesus, significant background topics, as well as issues and methods of interpretation. Among other benefits, it allows multiple opportunities for each of the Gospels to be weighed and heard in its own voice. Bibliographies are full and up to date, putting readers in touch with the best work in the field. All of this allows the articles to serve as launching pads for further research. When the first edition of the Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels was published, it was immediately recognized as an innovative reference work. By taking a particular corpus of biblical books and exploring it with in-depth articles written by specialists in the field, it refashioned a staple reference genre. This dictionary model has now been applied to each segment of the biblical canon in successive volumes. Those who have enjoyed and benefitted from the wealth in the first edition will find the second edition an equally indispensable companion to study and research. Over ninety percent of the articles have been completely rewritten, and the rest thoroughly revised and updated. Here is the doorway into a reliable and comprehensive summary and appraisal of the last twenty years of Jesus scholarship. A new generation of scholars has opened the way to make this a Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels for the twenty-first century.

  • Creating A Scene In Corinth

    $17.99

Creating a Scene imaginatively draws readers into Chloe’s house church, which has just received a letter from their church planter, the apostle Paul. Using group simulation, the book brings to life scholarly research on how the gospel penetrated the Roman Empire. As participants role-play early believers and debate with each other, they gain new insights and will never read 1 Corinthians the same way again.

First-century Corinthians were just as human as church people today. They did not consider Paul’s letters authoritative Scripture when he wrote them, so lively group discussion and debate are encouraged. This method of Bible study works for many levels, from youth groups to Sunday school classes, or in college and seminary courses. “Besides, it s just plain fun!” writes coauthor Finger.

The more we understand Jesus, the more we understand God’s original intent behind this overused, abused, and muddled word: love.

Each week girls will do an in-depth study of one of Jesus’ relationships described in the Bible. By examining the way Jesus interacted with others, they will see the perfect example of love. Through four repetitive phases-read, realize, respond, and retain-teen girls will learn a method of studying the Bible that they can apply to any Scripture passage and that will motivate them to read more frequently and independently in the future. By analyzing the Bible stories, each girl will in turn be able to analyze her own relationships to see if they are based on God’s idea of love, and will walk away with a deeper understanding of the love relationship God seeks to have with her.

What is tithing? Is it 10% of gross income due to the church? Or was it only food from inside HOLY Israel in the Old Testament.
Is tithing for today? Or are there better giving principles given to the church after Calvary with the Holy Spirit’s blessings?
This book tackles both the biblical and theological idea of tithing throughout the ages. Although it is exhaustive, the subject itself is exhaustive and cannot be fairly handled in any other way.

In his letters, John expresses delight at believers who are “walking in the truth”: behaving with that integrity which reflects the gospel. This involves not just correct doctrine and proper outward behavior, but also love for God and fellow believers. It’s this love, John writes, that shows that the truth of the gospel has really been grasped, not as an abstract idea but as what it is, the very life of God himself at work in his people.

These nine studies from Tom Wright help us become believers who are “walking in the truth” in our own day–people in whom the very life of God is at work for all to see.

  • Wrestling With Romans

    $35.00

`I have vowed,’ Dr Robinson says, ‘never to write a biblical commentary. For in a commentary you have to say something on everything, whether you have anything to say or not. This is why most commentaries, in my experience, are duller than other books written by the same persons, even on the same subject. But they are indispensable quarries.’ Sensing the lack of something between them and books designed for daily or group Bible study, he has provided a guide to the Epistle to the Romans which will set the historical context, draw attention to the points of interest and importance, and help the would-be reader to wrestle with its often difficult message. `I do not promise only blood, sweat and tears. On the contrary, the Epistle to the Romans offers what Winston Churchill also called the sunlit uplands, indeed the very heights of Christian experience and theology. But to appreciate them one must be prepared to work at it. A church where this wrestling is not being seriously attempted, especially in the most educated generation of its history to date, will be impoverished in its capacity to transform the world rather than be conformed to it.

  • Leading The Way Through Daniel

    $15.99

Daniel lived as an exile in a hostile country, yet when he committed himself in faith to serve his limitless God, he achieved the impossible. How did Daniel maintain his bold witness for God in spite of bullying and intimidation? How did he prepare himself for the tests and temptations of life?

Like Daniel, believers today live in a culture that is hostile to biblical values. It takes great courage and faith to live as followers of Christ in a post-Christian world characterized by moral depravity, injustice, idolatry, and more. In Leading the Way through Daniel, Michael Youssef passionately shows readers that the resources Daniel relied on are equally available to them. Sound teaching, vibrant illustrations, a brisk conversational style, and a discussion guide will enable readers to take the truths of the book of Daniel and apply them to the pressures, trials, and temptations they face in today’s culture.

    Grace.

We talk as though we understand the term. The bank gives us a grace period. The seedy politician falls from grace. Musicians speak of a grace note. We describe an actress as gracious, a dancer as graceful. We use the word for hospitals, baby girls, kings, and premeal prayers. We talk as though we know what grace means.

But do we really understand it? Have we settled for wimpy grace? It politely occupies a phrase in a hymn, fits nicely on a church sign. Never causes trouble or demands a response. When asked, “Do you believe in grace?” who could say no?

Max Lucado asks a deeper question: Have you been changed by grace? Shaped by grace? Strengthened by grace? Emboldened by grace? Softened by grace? Snatched by the nape of your neck and shaken to your senses by grace?

God’s grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide, turn-you-upside-downness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. From insecure to God secure. From regret riddled to better-because-of-it. From afraid to die to ready to fly. Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off. Let’s make certain grace gets you.

The first chapters of Genesis are the bedrock of the Jewish and Christian traditions. In these inaugural pages of the canon, the creation of the world, the fall of the human creature, the promise of redemption and the beginning of salvation history are found. Interwoven in the text are memorable stories of the ancient biblical patriarchs and matriarchs. Throughout the history of commentary, interpreters have lavished attention on the rich passages recounting the six days of creation, the tragic fall of God’s creature–from the expulsion of the first parents to Cain’s fratricide and the catastrophe of the Flood–as well as the allegorical sign of hope in the ark of Noah. Commentators in the Reformation continued this venerable tradition of detailed focus on these primordial stories, finding themselves and their era deeply connected to the tragedies and promises, the genealogies and marvels of God’s providential election and governance. Above all, Reformation-era interpreters found anchor for their teaching, preaching and hope in the promise of Christ running through these first chapters, from creation to the calling of Abraham. While following the precedent of patristic and medieval commentators on Scripture, as well as Rabbinic midrash, the Reformers provide insightful and startling fresh readings of familiar passages, inviting readers to see the ancient text with new eyes. This volume collects the comments of not only the monumental thinkers like Luther, Calvin and Melancthon, but also many important figures of the time who are lesser-known today. Here we find rich fare from Johannes Brenz, Wolfgang Capito, Hans Denck, Wolfgang Musculus, Johannes Oecolampadius and Peter Martyr Vermigli. Readers will encounter comments from a wide array of perspectives, from the magisterial Reformers to radical Protestants like Balthasar Hubmaier, Menno Simons, Pilgram Marpeck and Dirk Philips, as well as some Catholic thinkers, such as Desiderius Erasmus and Cardinal Cajetan. Important contributions from female voices, like Katharina Schtz Zell and Anna Maria van Schurman are included also. The wealth of Reformation interpretation is brought together here for study and reflection, much appearing in English for the first time.

Every generation in the church worries, rightly, about people who just glide along, seeming to enjoy what they hear in church but without it making any real difference. James faced exactly the same problem in the very first generation. So it’s not surprising that translating belief into action–making sure faith is the real thing–is near the heart of his message.

That kind of faith, he explains, is the faith that matters, the faith that justifies, the faith that saves. We need that kind of faith today. These nine studies on James’s passionate letter will help you live out a faith that makes a difference.

  • Why Not Now Leaders Guide (Teacher’s Guide)

    $9.99

Like most of the rest of us, Christian students tend to set the bar too low for themselves, especially when it comes to actively following Jesus. This 6-week Bible study curriculum and correlated-but-stand-alone daily devotional will challenge students to accept the mission to live like Jesus now, not later, by telling the stories of adolescents from the Bible and in modern life who did — and are doing — significant and amazing things in the world and for the God who saves. In a society where cultural adolescence is lingering into the 30s, its no wonder Christian students often fail to confront the call to act meaningfully on their faith in Christ. It’s easy to package that commitment with big ideas like picking a college, a spouse, and a career — and then to never quite get around to it.

God, however, posts no minimum age on discipleship, and his book contains several examples of younger people both willing and able — in his power — to do extraordinarily difficult and necessary things with their lives for him. Why Not Now? will mine stories from the young lives of Miriam, Joseph, David, Solomon, Daniel, and Mary to find why and how they said yes to God before they would have been old enough to rent a car in our modern society. All six of these people believed God could use their lives to do something that mattered. What is holding us back?

To bolster the argument and generate interest in the books, Why Not Now? will also seek contributions from living examples of people who are doing or have done things we just don’t expect students to do these days. Abby Sunderland, for instance, generated worldwide controversy for attempting to sail around the world solo simply because she was 16 at the time. How dare she? How cold her parents allow that? Another 16-year-old, cheerleader Kealey Oliver, recently made news for courageously tackling a shoplifter at the local mall rather that letting him escape. She saw it as her responsibility to stand for justice. And 17-year-old Steven Ortiz made headlines by demonstrating the practical wisdom of bartering his way from an old cell phone to a convertible Porsche.

Why Not Now? will use stories like theirs — and those from Scripture — to equip youth leaders to challenge students to use their unique gifts, skills, and opportunities right now to do bigger things with their lives for God’s glory. The curriculum will include teaching outlines, commentary, group activities, discussion questions, a

The New Testament Book of Acts is an exciting book to study. This is especially true when one realizes that we are living in the “age” which began in the first few chapters of Acts. Continuing the “Understanding” series, William M. Templeton in his book, Understanding Acts, Volume One, covers in detail the events of what he calls the “transitional days”. Theological truths are presented clearly, true to Scripture, with unique applications for modern living. It brings to life the actions of the apostles and disciples and the intervention of God in those days surrounding Pentecost, the embryonic birth of the church, and its explosive growth.

In the vein of exegesis, this commentary goes one step further by examining human relationships and behaviors. It not only explains the meaning of verses, but of events and eras. A clearer understanding of this chapter in the church’s history provides a wealth of wisdom for the church of today. This book will be invaluable to the pastor, seminary student, Sunday School teacher, and lay person.

A fresh, accessible approach to the religious and spiritual significance of the story of Judges – not as a series of heroic stories but as a cautionary tale about convenant, sin, and society.

The newest entry in the only Bible study series written from a uniquely Anglican perspective

Designed for adult formation programs in parish group settings or for use by individuals

    Study and reflection questions included

Sunday School curriculum or an irredeemably violent book? Throughout its history, Judges has both entertained and appalled readers – some read it as a series of simple stories about faithfulness and some as a brutal and bloodthirsty book. Heller explores how Judges can shape our understanding of our world, our relationships, and can provide a path to a deeper appreciation of the ways of God among people. Far from seeing the book as either simplistic or cruel, Heller allows this odd text to speak to us anew about God, sin, relationships, and justice.
