What The Cults BelieveYou see them at airports and at shopping centers. They knock on your doors or enter your house via radio. They are called Moonies, Mormons, Scientists, and Mediators.
Who are these people who claim to be people of God? Exactly what do they believe? How can you tell if they are members of cults?
And what about the New Age? Although it is not a cult, why do so many thousands of people cling to a movement with no organization, no founder, no absolutes, no statement of beliefs, no good or evil, no God, and no “reality?” Where did the New Age originate?
Irvine Robertson has done extensive research into the New Age as well as into cults such as Hare Krishna, the Unification Church of Sun Myung Moon, TM, and more. He explains simply and clearly what each group believes and where each deviates from biblical teaching.
Don’t be fooled. Know the signs of the cults, and be prepared to offer a positive yet loving offensive to meet their false doctrines. What the Cults Believe will prepare you to answer cultist claims with the truth of the Word of God.

Lighten Up : Great Stories From One Of Americas Favorite Storytellers
$16.99Add to cartKen Davis is a very funny guy. And as his friends and family will tell you, he’s also a very wise one. After all, who but a wise guy would blow the toilet in his new home to smithereens with an M-80 firecracker? Or end up in a hotel lobby wearing nothing but strawberry underwear and the latest addition of USA Today? Only Ken Davis could pull these stranger than life stories together and use them to drive home insights that cut to the heart of Christ-like living. Because Ken, being Ken, knows what human fallibility is all about. He knows how tough we adults can be on ourselves. He knows how hard we try to appear more together than we really are. And to all of us, he offers two words of very solid wisdom: LIGHTEN UP! Ken’s hilarious and touching stories underscore one simple, encouraging theme: God’s grace is for you. You’re not perfect, but you are perfectly loved by God. So take heart. God doesn’t just love you, he enjoys you. No reason you shouldn’t, too.

Taking its title from a line of a poem written by Alfred Tennyson, Beyond the Broken Lights is a thoughtful and inviting look at our questions and the need for clarity in the depths of the mystery of God. Like Tennyson, we cannot find satisfactory explanations, complete resolutions, or simple take-it-or-leave-it answers. Instead, our systems of theological position, conventional wisdom, and standard orthodoxy have their day and then cease to be. They can be described as “broken lights.”Poole examines these broken lights, and tells us that since there are no other lights – no perfect, seamless, unbroken lights that human words can shine on sacred truth – it is the broken lights that become precious to us. These are the lights by which we live. Poole warns, however, that we must not clutch them too tightly lest we cut ourselves on them, or wave them, lest we injure someone; because, after all, they are broken lights.
Beyond these broken lights is God, somewhere past the place where words run out. The words that wait their turn inside this book seek to recover something that was before the broken lights, and they long to glimpse something that is beyond the broken lights.

I Gave Dating A Chance
$14.99Add to cartIn recent years, “dating” has become a dirty word in many Christian circles. So dirty, in fact, that young believers are now encouraged simply not to date. This position has provoked an open debate among teens, their parents and youth workers, and single adults. For a great number of them, many questions remain unanswered.
-“Lord, what do I do with this desire to date?”
-“Can dating be an option for young adults who love the Lord and long to please Him?”Is not dating really the only acceptable option in God’s eyes? The answer, assures author and youth pastor Jeramy Clark, is a resounding “No!”
The time has come for a sound, biblical, and practical approach that balances out the extreme perspectives: dating without responsibility versus a complete withdrawal from the dating process. Learn how you can confidently pursue healthy dating relationships that are characterized by holiness and integrity–and ultimately bring glory and honor to God–in I Gave Dating a Chance.

Foundations For A Practical Theology Of Ministry
$25.99Add to cartThe pastoral ministry is in danger of losing its focus, say the authors of this perceptive and timely study. Specialization in preaching, counseling, evangelism, administration, and education has diffused the impact of practical theology. And because of competing ideas as to what now is central, the very image of ministry may be breaking down. Foundations for a Practical Theology of Ministry responds to the problem by introducing a specific method for doing practical theology which will be welcomed by concerned church leaders everywhere.
Presenting a realistic, workable answer to those who call for a revival of this vital discipline, Drs. James N. Poling and Donald E. Miller propose that the unifying image for ministry becomes the formation of the community of faith. After developing this as the most appropriate base for the practice of theology, they carefully outline their method and show how it will work by demonstrating its success in the actual experiences of typical congregations.
For Christian leaders who seek to renew the integrity of ministry and restore the character of pastoral leadership, this significant book will provide a solid foundation. And for individuals interested or involved in education for the future of the church, this important resource will prove invaluable.

To Understand Each Other
$18.00Add to cart“Most couples enter into conjugal life with a high ideal for marriage,” states Paul Tournier. “How many of them can say, a dozen years later, that their home has become what they expected of it? All too few!”
This is the problem Dr. Tournier considers in To Understand Each Other. His concern is for marriages that have become the quiet failures.
“When we talk of marriage counseling we think immediately of the extreme cases, of threats to seek divorce, of couples in violent disputes who frequently come to blows,” he says. But there are many other couples whose marriages are no less failure. “They live side by side, without hurting one another, but poles apart, because of no real understanding of one another.” -
Jesus Papyrus : Most Sensational Evidence On Origin Of Gospels Since Discov
$15.00Add to cartIn 1901, the Reverend Charles B. Huleatt acquired three pieces of a New Testament manuscript on the murky antiquities market of Luxor, Egypt. He donated these papyrus fragments to his alma mater, Magdalen College in Oxford, England, where they sat in a display case and drew very little attention. Nearly a century later, the fragments–part of the Gospel of Matthew and thought to date from a.d. 180-200–were reevaluated by scholar Carsten Peter Thiede. His research showed the bits of papyrus to be significantly older, written about a.d. 60.
But what is all the fuss about? How can three ancient papyrus fragments be so significant? How did Thiede arrive at this radical early dating? And what does it mean to the average Christian? Now readers have authoritative answers to these pivotal questions, in a book written by Thiede himself and by Times of London journalist Matthew d’Ancona, who originally broke the story to the public. Indeed, the Magdalen Papyrus corroborates three traditions: Saint Matthew actually wrote the Gospel bearing his name; he wrote it within a generation of Jesus’ death; and the Gospel stories about Jesus are true. Some will vehemently deny Thiede’s claims, others will embrace them, but nobody can ignore THE JESUS PAPYRUS. -

Loyal Opposition : Struggling With The Church On Homosexuality
$22.99Add to cartNo issue more polarizes American Protestants today than the church’s stance on homosexuality. In recent years, a number of denominations have engaged in prolonged and divisive debates on the subject, and it appears that these debates will continue to occupy their attention. The contributors to this volume call for the formation of a “loyal opposition” that is serious in its commitment to the difficult process of reconciliation and forgiveness. Faithfulness to the gospel, they remind readers, requires nothing less than that Christians will be committed to the full inclusion of all persons in the body of Christ-not least of all those who disagree theologically and ethically.
The book offers readers a multifaceted argument that the gospel requires a commitment to the full inclusion of all persons in the body of Christ. It focuses on how members of mainline denominations can respond to official denominational positions with which they disagree. Readers are offered an alternative response besides staying in the denomination and remaining silent or leaving the denomination because one disagrees with its official position on this issue.

Christ calls us to decisive discipleship but all too often we settle for flabby faith. “The vast majority of Western Christians,” claims David Watson, “are church members, pew-fillers, hymn-singers, sermon-tasters, Bible-readers, even born-again believers or Spirit-filled charismatics, but not true disciples of Jesus. If we were willing to become disciples, the church in the West would be transformed, and the impact on society would be staggering. This is no idle claim; it happened in the first century.”With the international perspective so acutely needed by American Christians, David Watson calls us to build a community of believers who demonstrate Christ’s power, arm themselves for spiritual battle, and demonstrate, by their lifestyle and outreach, their unreserved commitment to Christ’s kingdom. Only then will we be able to change the world.

In this book we listen to Abraham plead for Sodom and Gomorrah. We watch Jacob wrestle with the Angel of the Lord. We hear David confess his sin. We also see him dance before the ark of the covenant. We hear Hannah pray for a child. Finally, John White helps us see how Jesus’ prayers on the cross present a model for facing our last hours.

Additional Info
THE LETTERS OF JOHN AND JUDEThe four letters in this volume all deal with heretical teachings within the early church. Dr. Barclay describes the various forms in which Gnosticism appeared in I John, pointing out that the notions that the material world and the human body are evil still infect the thinking of some Christians. II and III John are warnings against wandering preachers who taught false doctrines, and against individuals within the church who repudiated the writer’s authority. Jude is a strong indictment of immoral persons (antinomians) who had insinuated themselves into the church.

Sin Death And The Devil A Print On Demand Title
$20.99Add to cartSin, death, and the devil, called the “unholy trinity” by Martin Luther, are the classic biblical tyrants, portrayed in Scripture as the enemies of God and the oppressors of humanity. This engaging book, which takes its cue from John Paul II’s description of Western society as a “culture of death,” unveils the many faces of sin, death, and the devil manifest in today’s world. Eight recognized Christian thinkers show that while the forms taken by these diabolical forces may have changed under the conditions of modern life, the underlying realities remain the same. Thus politics can become demonic, power can promote death, and sin can be disguised as virtue. Far from being pessimistic, however, the authors affirm God’s victory over these enslaving powers through the proclamation of the gospel and the sacraments of the church.
