  • Hoping For Happiness

    $16.99

A biblical framework for living a grounded, hopeful and genuinely happy life.

Everyone wants to be happy, and we all pursue happiness in different ways. Some people are thrill-seekers; others are homebodies. Some people are loners; others love big families or communities. Some people express things creatively; others consume what is created. Some sing; others listen to music. Whatever we find happiness in, we are united by our desire for work that matters and relationships that fulfil.

As Christians, we often fall into the trap of basing our hopes on earthly things, even when we know they only make us happy for a short time. But how are we to experience happiness in this life? How do we avoid expecting too much of earthly things and being disappointed, or expecting too little and becoming cynics?

In this book, recovering cynic Barnabas Piper helps us to throw off both the unrealistic expectations that end in disappointment and the guilty sense that Christians are not meant to have fun. He shows how having a clear view of the reality of the fall and the promise of redemption frees us to live a life that’s grounded, hopeful and genuinely happy.

It is not always easy to be a parent in the best of circumstances and what happens when you become a single mother or your children’s father, later, decides it is best the children live with him, and take them away. How can you fight, or what do you have, to fight with? You can feel lost, without hope, or defeated. You want to live as God wants you to, but it seems impossible.

Fruit of the Womb is the story of Laura and her desire to live according to God’s Word and to be a good example of Christian parenting to her sons. She wanted to be a living example of what God intended mothers to be, but after her children went to live with their father, it seemed impossible. How could she be a God-driven mother without her children? Yet, with faith in God and a strong determination to live His Word, Laura does her best to instill in her sons and other young men how to treat their mother, and their wife, the mother of their children.

Being a parent has been called the most important job on earth. God knew would not be easy, not for any parent, and so He provided instructions. Fruit of the Womb shows faith in God can overcome obstacles. The author made mistakes–but thanks to God–she overcame them. You can, too.

  • Releasing The Captive Woman

    $11.99

You or someone you know is divorcing, and you’ve been taught it is a sin. What do you do? The common reaction is avoidance or judgment, especially toward the one initiating a divorce. A change in this attitude is long overdue. The Bill of Divorcement in Bible times represented a clean break between partners who would otherwise be locked in a lifetime of misery, neglect, or abuse. Its original purpose was to secure provision for the woman and vindicate those who were innocent of unjustified or wrongful motives, including issues of an intimate nature between the couple and not the rest of the world. Over time, this was replaced by a harsh and legalistic attitude that labeled all divorcees as sinners. As a result, people of faith (especially leaders and counselors) still don’t know how to handle divorce. In particular, women pay the price through condemnation and misunderstanding. Well-meaning comments that God can fix anything don’t remove the sting. The tragedy is that not only are divorcees of faith misunderstood, but so is God. Releasing the Captive Woman provides insight into the personal struggles and Scriptural dilemmas surrounding issues of marriage and divorce. The book will hopefully mentor individuals into making wiser decisions before they step into marriage.

  • Broken Vows : Divorce And The Goodness Of God

    $9.99

“There was never supposed to be a post-marriage period of my life,” says John Greco. He had just accepted his dream position as a church pastor when his wife announced she was divorcing him. In a few short weeks, his marriage ended and his career plans unraveled. He was hurt, angry, and felt abandoned by God.

Marriage is supposed to be for life, but divorce still happens. How can a Christian reconcile the reality of divorce with the biblical view of marriage? How can the wronged spouse forgive? And how can God still be good when bad things happen?

In Broken Vows: Divorce and the Goodness of God, Greco doesn’t offer pat answers. In the initial aftermath, he says one must simply grieve. “There is a period after a devastating loss when a soul is unable to take in words of healing,” he says. “These are the moments, not to look for answers or try to find any sort of good in the situation, but to pour yourself out to Jesus.”

Broken Vows combines Greco’s personal story with a biblical view of suffering. He provides pastoral help for those who have experienced divorce and gives all Christians a way to think biblically about this difficult subject.

    $12.95

You CAN understand annulment. You just need a little help!

You never wanted this to happen, but now you’re civilly divorced. There’s no such thing as Catholic divorce because in God’s eyes a valid marriage can never be broken. But sometimes what looks like a marriage from the outside can be fatally flawed from the beginning.

Only God can see deeply into the human heart. He knows how human frailty and weakness, and inabilities of some people to enter into marriage freely and fully despite their best attempts. After careful study of such an attempted union, the Church may be able to declare that no valid marriage bond was created. And this book will help you understand the process.

Regardless of your situation, the Church is here to help and you don’t have to be a priest or canon lawyer to understand the basics. This little book with big help dispels the common myths and misunderstandings about marriage, divorce, and annulments, and is helpful for:
    – Divorced men and women who are considering if they have grounds for an annulment
    – Those who need help completing their formal petition for a Decree of Nullity (annulment)
    – Lay or religious ministers who work with the separated and divorced
    – Parish priests and deacons involved in divorce ministry
    – Those who counsel divorced Catholics
    – Anyone who wants to know more about what the Church really teaches about divorce

  • Search For A Soul Mate After Divorce

    $12.49

Pride caused the demise of an eighteen year Christian marriage. The marriage came to an end as a result of a slow leak in my marital tire. I became a forgetful hearer-and-doer. I not only failed to guard my heart, but I also never exercised myself to be kind and tenderhearted in the family, where it matters most. I failed to pursue love and allowed pride to rob me of seeing things God’s way. I later found myself in the Valley of the Dry Bones. But God gave me the strength and the grace to move forward. I spent the next three years in search of a soul mate. I attended a house party for singles and could not find a match. I was also introduced to several ladies and could not find a match either time. I tried five different dating sites without finding a match. I finally decided to stay with only SOULSINGLES AND BLACKSINGLES. I met face-to-face with three ladies from the United States. The first two ladies are from Florida and the third lady from Indiana. I spent more than eight hours in 28 degree weather and a Good Samaritan came to my aid. I also had contacts with interesting ladies from Canada, Jamaica, and the United Kingdom. I received advice and counseling from friends and learned not to ask a lady to meet me in a hotel lobby. My last face-to-face meeting seemed to be a perfect match. We met twice and attended church services together. I thought I had ended my search for a soul mate, but it was not so. All in all, I learned that a Christian heart can be deceived. Therefore, in the life of a Christian hearing-and-doing must go hand in hand.

  • Spiritually Healthy Divorce

    $16.99

This practical and soul-strengthening resource serves as a spiritual map for regaining your bearings, helping you move through the twists and turns of divorce in a spiritually healthy way.

Drawing on her work as a pastor and counselor-and her personal experience of divorce-Carolyne Call proposes a three-pronged approach to help you reset your compass on a new destination-wholeness. She looks at how and where divorce-related disruptions take place; identifies the potential for each disruption to trigger self-defeating emotions and behavior; and explores how to heal in each disruption’s wake. Supported by first-person accounts from men and women of a variety of faith traditions who have found their way through divorce, Call helps you identify:

    * Where you want to go-“I want to be true to who I am”

    * Where you don’t want to go-the “cul-de-sacs” of bitterness, resentment, victimization and guilt

    * What you can do to get there

Each chapter includes reflective questions and practical exercises. Appendices offer a structure for group sessions for use in churches or faith-based groups.

  • Mountaintop Experience In The Midst Of The Valley

    $12.49

This book is written by a broken woman during her husband’s adultery and pending divorce. She had a choice to make to either remain angry and bitter or to depend on God to get her through the heartache. God is the only answer and He has provided her with His strength to forgive her husband. Although the divorce is still pending and outward signs appear that she remains in the valley, God has given her an overwhelming peace that He is in total control. God has taught her to live each day with Him as her focal point. She finally realizes that she does not need to know the future because God is in total control and He will carry her through anything.

During this trial, she realizes how hardened society has become. Our current divorce rate, broken families, churches splitting, and so many hurts, are evidence of just how far we have turned away from God. However, it is NEVER too late with God. We need to examine our own hearts and turn back to God. It is time for a revival and it must start from within each of us. Despite all of the hurt in the world today, we can have total and complete faith that God will not only carry us through but He will also bring us to the mountaintop, if we let Him.

  • Single Married Separated And Life After Divorce

    $17.99

Single, Married, Separated, & Life After Divorce, Expanded Edition (2003) Singleness is a myth. To be single means to be all one (alone), separate, unique and whole. MARRIAGE is when two separate, unique and whole persons, one male and one female, make a covenant to exchange vows, committing their lives to remain together until death. Separation is an unofficial divorce with the exact same effect as divorce. It is the most tragic state of limbo. Divorce means to desert. The armed forces prosecute deserters. God has made no provision for divorce in the Bible. If you are invited to a wedding, you are a covenant witness, and if this couple later divorces, you should be invited to the divorce just as you were to the wedding.

  • Divorce Death And The Birthing New Life Of A Single Parent

    $12.49

The marriage was supposed to last forever, but it didn’t! This book is for women (and men) who suddenly find themselves thrust into the role of single parenting. Just as there are labor pains in childbirth, there are labor pains in the process of single parenting. Left to raise four children ages eleven, ten, five, and four years old, Geniene shares some of her labor pains and her labor of love as a single mother. She openly discusses her early thoughts of suicide. She shares what she calls the second-worst pain a parent could experience–her oldest son sentenced to life in prison–and the peace of God that helps her to bear the never-ending pain. She also shares the story of the car accident that almost took her only daughter’s life. She boldly states why she believes that a mother cannot be both a mother and a father to a son. Geniene’s faith in God, love for her children, support from family and friends, and determination gave her the strength to push through the pain, focus on her children, and embrace her new life as a single mother. The divorce papers took her by surprise, but God is never caught off guard.

Through time and a closer relationship with Jesus Christ, she has experienced true healing and grace. She wants to give God all the glory and desperately wants others to experience the same for their lives.

    God Keeps His Promises shares:

    * Christy’s personal testimony of God’s faithfulness

    * Life applications for going through a separation/divorce

    * Key scriptures for hope, healing, and forgiveness

  • Biblical Study Of Divorce

    $18.99

Having been taught the strict Traditional View, the author studied the Scripture and concluded that this view is lacking both biblically and in practice-as are the Traditional Dissolution-Divorce, the Betrothal, and the Consanguinity views. Studying all the pertinent passages, the author adopted what he calls the More Liberal Dissolution-Divorce View. The two testaments teach the same view on divorce and remarriage with one exception. The New Testament passages of Jesus and the Apostle Paul are interpreted in harmony with Greek grammar and the meaning of words. The author concluded that the divorce teaching of Scripture is addressed only to believers, and that it is time to stop the hypocrisy (fostered by the other views) of professing a certain belief but not daring to implement that belief in practice. The author knows of no study in print that reaches these important conclusions.

Just as the institution of marriage has always been mysterious, divorce in America leaves us with many questions begging for answers. Why is the divorce rate so high? What causes divorce, and what is the fallout? Why aren.t government officials and clerical people trying to do something about it? The author answers these questions and many more in a straightforward, passionate style that can tug at your heart. The author says that it is too late for superficial changes. Ideas have consequences, and we must come to our senses and recognize that the direction our culture is taking us is more than destructive.it is suicidal. To get to the heart of the matter, the book has to explore even deeper. Why did God create us the way He did and for what purpose? If marriage was so important, why did Moses allow divorce? Is there such a thing as a “good divorce”? What does God think about divorce? Are there scriptural grounds for divorce? As you can see, this book is about people-male and female, young and old. It.s about why we do the things that we do and how we got off track. You will probably never look at divorce or marriage in the same way after reading this thought-provoking challenge.

Once divorced, forever barred from church leadership—sometimes even from full fellowship. Isn’t that what the plain sense of Scripture teaches? No, says Keener. In this compassionate and carefully documented study, he first explores how the early Christians would have understood the statements of Jesus and Paul on divorce and remarriage. Keener then builds a soundly scriptural view of divorce and remarriage—a view that reminds the church that all of its members are forgiven people.

We are all responsible for communicating the biblical truth regarding divorce and marriage. But in today’s world, teachings concerning divorce are diverse and often uncertain. This work has been commissioned by the Nazarene General Assembly and may be the most comprehensive work ever written on the subject.

When it comes to divorce and remarriage, everyone appeals to Scripture—but no one agrees on what it says. In this book, four Christian thinkers (J. Carl Laney, William Heth, Thomas Edgar, and Larry Richards) debate the more perplexing points. Each essayist presents his own view and critiques the others. Case studies apply theories to real-life situations.

  • Divorcing With Dignity

    $17.00

This practical guide provides an alternative to the standard methods of arbitration and litigation used by divorcing couples–and shows how mediation can be utilized instead. Based on the author’s professional experience in law and as a minister who has mediated for more than five hundred couples, Tim Emerick-Cayton provides illustrations on how to survive the pain and anguish of divorcing while maintaining personal integrity and faith. With case examples of those who have experienced successful mediation, Emerick-Cayton shows how mediation reduces cost, hostility, and confusion. Emerick-Cayton says mediated agreements are complied with almost twice as often as court-rendered judgments.

The common asked question today is, “Should divorced people remarry?” With great compassion and warmth, Dr. Laney maintains that the more fundamental question with which Christ dealt is, “Should people be divorced?” His purpose is to draw the church up short against the runaway divorce epidemic with a theology of marriage.

Challenging the church on the subject of divorce and remarriage, the author carefully builds evidence from scripture and from cultural and historical data for a no-divorce/remarriage position. Not everyone will agree with Laney, but it deserves the careful attention of all who are genuinely concerned about the divorce issue.
