    $11.99

Being and Becoming Who He Made You to Be

Do you ever fail to connect God’s mission of love, reconciliation, and compassion to your daily life? God’s message was simple, and we’ve made it complicated–allowing fear, shame, culture-locked language, and traditions to stop us from aligning ourselves with God’s heart for the world.

In Made to Love, Geoff Peters sheds light on the deeper story for why we are here and addresses the great divide between what we are called to do and what we actually do. He also lovingly points toward places where we, as ministry leaders, may have failed those we seek to serve.

Based on research with Christians in seven countries and wrapped in the author’s personal story and reflections, Made to Love challenges us to rethink the words and ideas we use to inspire disciples for kingdom service in our own neighborhoods and around the world.

Disappointments are a fact of life. Setbacks will happen to us all at some point. It is easy to allow such events to steal our joy and distract us from our true purpose. But we don’t have to fall into that trap. We can choose to keep our focus on Christ even in turmoil and be the kind of people who get busy moving in another direction.

In this five-session video study, bestselling author Bob Goff shares some of the stories from his life that have helped him understand what it truly means to be joyful in every situation. As he notes, the hard truth is that most of us live our lives consumed by worries and fears about things over which we have no control. We struggle to know how we should interact with family or friends. We fret about our finances and our faith. We question our college major and career choice. Add to this that we’re following a God we can’t see, for a lifetime we can’t measure, to a heaven we can’t comprehend, because of grace we didn’t earn.

We’re all trying to figure it out as we go. This leaves more offramps than onramps, more chances for confusion than certainty and more ambiguity than clarity. All of this vagueness plays right into the hands of darkness. The enemy doesn’t seek to destroy us with an obvious all-out assault. No, he wants to distract us, keep us locked up in worries, and prevent us from experiencing those things that will give us true joy in life.

This is the goal of this study–to provide a roadmap to defeat discouragement and regain joy in life by becoming captivated by something better. Joy will provide practical steps to help participants make that journey.

Sincere Christians hold divergent ideas about discipleship. Different approaches focus on steps to follow, mentoring, spiritual disciplines, or an intellectual approach, but do they draw their defi nitions from Scripture’s big picture? Do they draw enough attention to Jesus’ view of discipleship?

By exploring Jesus’ approach to discipleship, Bayer shows how God-perception and self-perception, simultaneously shaped by the gospel, result in reconciled relationships and radical discipleship.

The Explorations in Biblical Theology series addresses the need for quality literature that attracts believing readers to good theology and builds them up in their faith. Each title in the series combines solid content with accessibility and readability-a valuable addition to the library of any college student, thoughtful lay reader, seminarian, or pastor.

Tess Cohen was a 23-year-old aspiring artist with dreams of painting beach scenes. She longed to leave the small town of Starks, Louisiana, and head for California to make a go of it as an artist. Instead, she compromised with her parents and decided to spend the summer of 1968 on Galveston Island with her younger sister, Abigail. It was just meant to be an extended summer vacation. Abigail would return to college in the fall and Tess would finally settle down for good in Starks. But then a chance encounter with ‘Easy’ Billy Castro changed everything. Billy had a troubled past and was orphaned at the age of 16. No stranger to conflict, he’d been using his natural talent for fighting to scrape together a living collecting debts for a local gambling organization. When boxing legend, Marvin Jones, finds out Billy has roughed up one of his fighters, he presents him with an opportunity to turn his life around. Wren Blythe has long enjoyed being among the Northwoods, helping her father with programming at a youth camp. But when a little girl in the area goes missing, an all-out search ensues, reviving the decades-old campfire story of Ava Coons, the murderess, who still roams the woods. Joining the search, Wren stumbles upon the Coons cabin ruins and a rotting porcelain doll. But even more terrifying is seeing her name etched on the doll’s foot like a sinister omen.

In 1930, Ava Coons has spent the last ten years carrying the mantle of mystery since she emerged from the forest as an eight-year-old girl, spattered with blood, dragging a logger’s axe. • Let My People Live

    $40.00

Let My People Live reengages the narrative of Exodus through a critical, life-affirming Africana hermeneutic that seeks to create and sustain a vision of not just the survival but the thriving of Black communities. While the field of biblical studies has habitually divided “objective” interpretations from culturally informed ones, Kenneth Ngwa argues that doing interpretive work through an activist, culturally grounded lens rightly recognizes how communities of readers actively shape the priorities of any biblical interpretation. In the Africana context, communities whose identities were made disposable by the forces of empire and colonialism-both in Africa and in the African diaspora across the globe-likewise suffered the stripping away of the right to interpretation, of both sacred texts and of themselves. Ngwa shows how an Africana approach to the biblical text can intervene in this narrative of breakage, as a mode of resistance. By emphasizing the irreducible life force and resources nurtured in the Africana community, which have always preceded colonial oppression, the Africana hermeneutic is able to stretch from the past into the future to sustain and support generations to come.

Ngwa reimagines the Exodus story through this framework, elaborating the motifs of the narrative as they are shaped by Africana interpretative values and approaches that identify three animating threats in the story: erasure (undermining the community’s very existence), alienation (separating from the space of home and from the ecosystem), and singularity (holding up the individual over the collective). He argues that what he calls “badass womanism”-an intergenerational and interregional life force and epistemology of the people embodied in the midwives, Miriam, the Egyptian princess, and other female figures in the story-have challenged these threats. He shows how badass womanist triple consciousness creates, and is informed by, communal approaches to hermeneutics that emphasize survival over erasure, integration over alienation, and multiplicity over singularity. This triple consciousness surfaces throughout the Exodus narrative and informs the narrative portraits of other characters, including Moses and Yahweh. As the Hebrew people navigate the exodus journey, Ngwa investigates how these forces of oppression and resistance shift and take new shapes across the geographies of Egypt, the wilderness, and the mountain area preceding their passage into the promised land. • Christian Apologetics : A Comprehensive Case For Biblical Faith

    $60.00

People are hungry for hope. They want to understand our human condition-its origin, nature, purpose, and destiny. The Christian faith offers hope for individuals and the entire universe, grounded in absolute truth. But how can we know that Christianity is true? And how can Christians confidently present their beliefs in the face of doubts and competing views? In this comprehensive text, Douglas Groothuis makes a clear and rigorous case for Christian theism. Demonstrating how apologetics must be both rational and winsome, he addresses the most common questions and objections people raise regarding Christianity. After laying a foundation with the biblical basis for apologetics, apologetic method, and a defense of objective truth, he presents key arguments for the reality of God, a case for the credibility of Jesus, and evidence for the resurrection. Groothuis also evaluates alternative views and responds to challenges such as religious pluralism and the problem of evil. The second edition of this landmark work has been updated throughout to address current issues and sources. It includes new chapters on topics such as doubt and the hiddenness of God, the atonement, the church, and lament as a Christian apologetic. To know God in Christ, Groothuis argues, means that we desire to make Christian truth available to others in the most compelling form possible. Students, ordinary Christians, and seasoned philosophers will all find a wise guide for this endeavor in Christian Apologetics.

  • Charles Fox Parham

    $16.99

Charles Fox Parham is an absorbing and perhaps controversial biography of the founder of modern Pentecostalism. Parham was a deeply flawed individual who nevertheless was used by God to initiate and establish one of the greatest spiritual movements of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, helping to restore the power of Pentecost to the church and being a catalyst for numerous healings and conversions. Author Dr. Larry Martin is a lifelong Pentecostal with decades of ministry as a pastor, educator, and evangelist. He researched the life of this complicated and contradictory figure for over twenty-five years before writing this book-with a certain degree of hesitancy. By disclosing the whole truth about Parham’s life-which has never fully been done before-would it give excessive ammunition to the critics of the Pentecostal and charismatic movements? Martin uncompromisingly exposes Parham’s weaknesses, faulty thinking, and transgressions while disassociating his behavior from the movement as a whole, writing with an inside understanding of Pentecostalism and a thoughtful analysis of Parham’s life that goes beyond the acknowledgment of human frailty to reveal the work of a sovereign God. If we don’t confront the faults of our spiritual fathers, Martin says, we will fail to address the truth in the way the Bible lays bare the faults of some of our greatest biblical heroes of the faith. We must recognize and learn from the weaknesses of others, as well as their achievements. The author of several books on the Asuza Street Revival, the history of early Pentecostals, and the Pentecostal Church of God, Martin presents a much-needed exploration of the life of one of the most influential religious figures of the twentieth century, whose impact is still widely felt today. Includes photos of Parham’s life and ministry.

  • From Shade To Shine

    $20.00

This collection of poems begins in the growing darkness of November, stretches through Advent and the seasons leading to Easter and to Pentecost, and ends in the budding light of the Scottish Orkney Islands, where the canonical hours measure time over centuries and where God broods over an austere and beautiful landscape. The measurement of time passing and returning, year after year, in the rhythms of the seasons and of the liturgical year, create the pace and the song. But in the biblical voices of Magdalene, Mary, Abel, and Eve, and in the grim historical and political realities of war and suffering, one also hears lament and finds the poet’s clear-eyed gaze straight into life’s challenges. Memory is at work here, too, in personal reminiscences and in theological reflection. As one philosopher has said, “All truth is God’s truth.”

  • Sarah Anointing : Become A Woman Of Belief, Vision, And Hope

    $15.99

    FROM BEST-SELLING AUTHOR MICHELLE MCCLAIN-WALTERS

When your faith fails, God prevails.

This book will teach you how to live out your nature as an active participant in God’s vision.

Sarah was a loyal wife who followed her husband, Abraham, when God spoke to him. Even when Abraham made mistakes, she still called him “lord.” She is an example of a woman with a submitted spirit who responded biblically to her husband without losing her identity.

Sarah was an active participant in God’s vision–perhaps too active, as she ran ahead of God and tried to fulfill His covenant in her own timing. She also laughed at the possibility of a miracle.

But when God changed Sarah’s name, He changed her nature. The name change linked her to Abraham in co-rulership, including her in God’s covenant promise, which was fulfilled by the couple’s working together. Sarah’s example shows us that God has included women in His purposes and plans throughout history and will include them in the next great awakening. Her life is a positive lesson in faith that breaks personal limitations.

  • Recovering Racists : Dismantling White Supremacy And Reclaiming Our Humanit

    $18.99

As a white Afrikaner woman growing up in South Africa during apartheid, Idelette McVicker was steeped in a community and a church that reinforced white supremacy and shielded her from seeing her neighbors’ oppression. But a series of circumstances led her to begin questioning everything she thought was true about her identity, her country, and her faith.

Recovering Racists shares McVicker’s journey over 30 years and across three continents to shatter the lies of white supremacy embedded deep within her soul. She helps us realize that grappling with the legacy of white supremacy and recovering from racism is lifelong work that requires both inner transformation and societal change. It is for those of us who have hit rock bottom in the human story of race, says McVicker. We must acknowledge our internalized racism, repent of our complicity, and learn new ways of being human.

This book invites us on the long, slow journey of healing the past, making things right, changing old stories, and becoming human together. As we work for the liberation of everyone, we also find liberation for ourselves. Each chapter ends with discussion questions.

  • Malestrom : How Jesus Dismantles Patriarchy And Redefines Manhood

    $19.99

This is a message that the church desperately needs to hear and take to heart.–Kristin Kobes Du Mez, author of Jesus and John Wayne.

Like the danger of a maelstrom in the open seas, a relentless force threatens our culture. This maelstrom swirls with currents that produce confused and distorted images of manhood perpetuated by our society and even by the church.

Digging deeply into the stories of incredible men in the Bible, Malestrom offers what we so desperately need–a biblical, global, timeless vision of manhood that is big enough to encompass the diversity of men’s lives and strong enough to withstand the contingencies they face.

In doing so, Malestrom tells the story of how God dismantles patriarchy in the Bible. Buried in the stories of marginalized men in the Bible is a revolutionary new vision of manhood that is good news for men. Written for men and women, and ideal for both personal or group study, Malestrom offers a redemptive, hope-filled, gospel-centered perspective on what it means to be a man.

  • Special Grace : Prayers And Reflections For Families With Special Needs

    $16.99

The world of special needs is filled with statistics: in the United States, about 17 percent of children have a diagnosed developmental disability, and 14 percent of public school students receive special education services.

But behind these statistics are stories–stories of children struggling to fit into a world that wasn’t designed for them, and stories of parents giving everything they have to advocate for their children. Most of these parents didn’t choose this path; they were thrust upon it unknowing, unprepared, and often overwhelmed. They may struggle to talk about their experiences in relatable ways with family, friends, and even God. Special Grace is a collection of 127 prayers for all aspects of life for families with special needs. Here are prayers for family life, school, and church; prayers for an initial diagnosis, for the first day of school, and for celebrating a milestone. Each section is set off by a reflective essay from Evans’s own family life. Filled with humor and wisdom, these prayers and reflections will help families process their experiences together and offer them to God with hope and simple trust. In moments when the cries of your heart leave you speechless, Special Grace provides words you can bring before your Father in heaven.

  • Calling In Context

    $24.99

I don’t care for vocational books written in the United States; they’re too American.

When Susan Maros heard this comment from a Malaysian colleague, she was initially taken aback. Isn’t the concept of calling universal? Why wouldn’t resources with a biblical perspective on vocation apply to everyone? The reality is that each of us encounters our questions of calling from within a particular context. In this path-breaking book, Maros explores how various dimensions of social location–including race, ethnicity, culture, socioeconomic status, and gender–shape our assumptions and experiences with vocation. Maros helps Christians in the United States in particular see how ideas about calling that emphasize certainty, career paths, and personal achievement arise from cultural priorities that shouldn’t go unexamined, such as individualism, productivity, and meritocracy. She explains how unexamined mental maps can distort our perspective and refocuses our attention on biblical insights about calling as a lifelong journey. In the process, she helps us find both clarity and encouragement to explore the paths before us. God calls all people, yes–but calling is not a monolithic concept. Filled with numerous stories from Christians in diverse communities, Calling in Context invites anyone exploring questions of calling to find fresh possibilities in their own identity and engagement with God’s mission. Reflection questions and Bible study prompts are included throughout.

  • Buried Talents : Overcoming Gendered Socialization To Answer God’s Call

    $20.99

If God is calling women to lead, what’s holding them back?

Susan Harris Howell has spent years helping students investigate this question. In Buried Talents, she makes clear how gender disparity in leadership is directly connected to a larger, less overt issue: gendered socialization. Howell examines gendered messages people encounter inside and outside the church in each stage of life, showing how they often create misconceptions about who women are, what they’re capable of, and how they fit into God’s work. As these messages pull men toward leadership, they push women away from it. God’s call to leadership doesn’t come in a vacuum. It comes to particular people who have, from childhood through adulthood, been shaped by subtle forms of socialization. Using social science research and interviews to explain these forces, Howell offers psychological and practical tools for both women and men to make more balanced vocational decisions. A discussion guide and suggested reading lists are also included to help readers engage and apply the content. As opportunities for women continue to expand, too many still hold back in responding to God’s call. Buried Talents provides compelling guidance for how we can remove obstacles that keep women from fully using their gifts.

  • Christian Field Guide To Technology For Engineers And Designers

    $28.99

Our technology shapes the way we live, interact, work, play, and even worship.

Technology and its power are both old and new–as is the wisdom we need to envision, design, build, and use it well. For Christians passionate about developing technology, it’s not always clear how their faith and work intersect. How can designing and using technology actually be a way of loving God and our neighbors? Veteran engineers and teachers Ethan Brue, Derek Schuurman, and Steve VanderLeest provide a field guide for fellow explorers working with technology. Using numerous case studies, historical examples, and personal stories, they explore issues such as:

*biblical themes and passages that relate to technology
*the ethics and norms involved in technology design
*how engineering and technology tap into human dreams for a better world

Along the way they acknowledge the challenges arising from technology but also point to the wonderful possibilities it offers us and its ability to contribute to the common good. For Christians studying and working in engineering, computer science, technical design, architecture, and related fields, this book is packed with wisdom and practical guidance. By sharing what they have learned, the authors encourage readers to ask harder questions, aspire to more noble purposes, and live a life consistent with their faith as they engage with technology.

  • Straight White Male

    $20.00

Straight, white, male pastor Chris Furr offers a guide to deconstructing that privilege in Straight White Male. With an emphasis on confession and redemption, Furr invites other privileged men to reconsider the ways they live, work, believe, and interact with others. Alongside Furr’s perspective, essays from contributing writers who lack various types of privilege-straight, Black man William J. Barber II, straight, white woman Melissa Florer-Bixler, queer, nonbinary latinx Robyn Henderson-Espinoza, and gay, white man Matthias Roberts-offer insights on how particular types and combinations of privilege (and the lack thereof) shape the way we move through the world. Their combined voices offer much-needed perspective through this deconstruction and provide a vision for how straight, white men can do better for ourselves, our families, and society.

As the cultural conversation around race, gender, and sexuality has evolved, straight, white men are becoming increasingly aware of their privilege. But many may be left thinking, “OK, what am I supposed to do about it?” “We need a way forward beyond feelings of guilt, overwhelmingness, anger, and denial.” “We are looking for transformative guidance that helps us be the good guys we want to be.”

High-school sweethearts Mac and Edie Swan lead a seemingly picture-perfect life in the sleepy-sweet community of Oak Hill, near Mobile, Alabama. Edie is a respected interior designer, Mac is a beloved pediatrician, and they have two great kids and a historic home on tree-lined Linden Avenue. From the outside, the Swan family is the definition of “the good life.” And life is good–mostly. Until a young woman walks into Mac’s office one day. A young woman whose very existence threatens all Mac and Edie have built and all they think they know about each other.

Nineteen years after a summer apart, with a family and established lives and careers, the past that Mac and Edie thought they left behind has come back to greet them. For the first time, constants in their lives are called into question: their roles as parents, their reputation as upstanding members of the community, and the very foundations of their marriage. • Habits Of The Mind

A Christianity Today Book Award Winner What does it mean to love God with your mind? Can the intellectual life be a legitimate Christian calling?

In this deeply personal book, James Sire brings wit and wisdom to bear on these questions. He draws from his own experience and the life of John Henry Newman to explore how to think well for the glory of God and the sake of his kingdom. Sire shows how to cultivate intellectual virtues and disciplines–habits of the mind–that will strengthen you in pursuit of your calling. Thinking well is integral to acting righteously. Sire offers assurance that intellectual life can be a true calling for Christians: because Jesus was the smartest man who ever lived, you can and should accept the challenge to think with more accuracy, wisdom, humility, and passion. • Person In Psychology And Christianity

    $30.99

Integral to a Christian worldview and to psychology are foundational questions about personhood: What characteristics are essential? What is our purpose? Do we naturally incline toward good or bad? Are we accountable for self and responsible for others?

In The Person in Psychology and Christianity, developmental psychologist Marjorie Gunnoe demonstrates how the integration of theological and psychological perspectives offers a more comprehensive understanding of personhood than either approach alone. Gunnoe opens with a brief summary of biblical and theological perspectives on four organizing themes (human essence, purpose, moral tendency, and accountability). She then examines the intersection of this faith-based depiction with five theories of social development proposed by:

    *Erik Erikson
    *John Bowlby
    *B. F. Skinner
    *Albert Bandura
    *Evolutionary Psychology

For each, Gunnoe includes a biography, a summary of the theorist’s broad perspective on personhood, and an analysis of the theorist’s stance on the four specific themes. This book is written for a general audience and suitable for undergraduate and graduate instruction.

  • Flame Of Love Second Edition

    $30.99

In what may be regarded as his magnum opus, Clark Pinnock explores the vital Christian doctrine of the Holy Spirit.

Writing out of wide learning and deep personal passion, he points the way to restoring the oft-neglected Spirit to centrality in the life and witness of the church. Pinnock’s book is both catholic–respecting the beliefs and worship of the historic church–and evangelical–drawing particularly on the heritage of the Reformation. Always in sight is the mission of the church, because people want to meet the real and living God and will not be satisfied with a religion that only preaches and moralizes. For this second edition, theologian Daniel Castelo draws from his experience using Flame of Love in the classroom to add notes with helpful commentary and brief reflections on each chapter’s main themes and contributions. While the classic text is preserved, the book becomes even more accessible to contemporary readers.

  • Participating In Abundant Life

    $24.99

Our world is hungry for salvation, but we don’t always know how to talk about it.

Christians agree that God cares about people’s lives both in this world and into eternity. But the ways we describe salvation often separate the spiritual from the material. Many groups emphasize one at the expense of the other, limiting the picture of what God has to offer. Mark Teasdale works to bridge the gaps by taking up Jesus’ language of abundant life. This life is something Jesus invites us to participate in–to seek both for ourselves and for others. It’s rich and multidimensional, not splitting spirits and minds from bodies and material needs. By connecting biblical perspectives of holistic salvation to contemporary concepts of well-being, Teasdale also shows how Christians can both better communicate in secular settings as well as partner with all people regardless of their faith to seek the common good. Incorporating concepts of material standard of living and subjective quality of life, Teasdale argues, gives Christians common language to share the promise of abundant life with those who hold to secular commitments. Yet we must also boldly present Jesus’ invitation to eternal life and discipleship. For churches, ministry leaders, and laypeople Teasdale offers ideas to improve and measure methods of promoting all dimensions of salvation for the good of others.

  • Oneness Embraced : A Kingdom Race Theology For Reconciliation, Unity, And J

    $19.99

Oneness is to hard achieve. Let the kingdom unity of Scripture point the way.

Today’s world is torn apart. Tension is everywhere. Brother is pitted against brother, sister against sister, citizen against citizen, even Christian against Christian. It’s so hard to find agreement–much less real harmony–in our polarized society. Can there be a way forward?

Tony Evans knows how elusive unity can be. As a black man who’s also a leader in white evangelicalism, he understands how hard it can be to bring these worlds together. Yet he’s convinced that the gospel provides a way for Christians to find oneness despite the things that divide us. In the Word of God, we find a kingdom-based approach to matters of history, culture, the church, and social justice. In this book, you’ll get:

    *A Biblical Look at Oneness
*A Historical View of the Black Church
*A Kingdom Vision for Societal Impact

Although oneness is hard to achieve, the Christian must never stop striving. It’s a kingdom imperative. As Tony reminds us, “Glorifying God is our ultimate goal. Oneness exists to enable us to reach our goal.”

  • Sacred Conversation : Exploring The Seven Gifts Of Spiritual Direction

    $14.99

God created humans with the desire to both know others and be known. People weren’t meant to go it alone on their spiritual journeys, and God has provided many fellow travelers to accompany us.

Some of these fellow pilgrims–spiritual directors–are called to walk the spiritual path with others. The spiritual director, however, does not seek to tell their counterpart how to live out the faith. Instead, the spiritual director accompanies others on their spiritual journey and helps them discover how God may be working in their lives. The spiritual director listens, notices, encourages, asks questions, and prays for the person receiving spiritual direction.

In Sacred Conversation, readers will learn what spiritual direction is and what it isn’t. They will explore spiritual practices that have helped people for hundreds of years develop a closer relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Marsha Crockett introduces readers to seven gifts of spiritual direction: awakening, hospitality, story, pilgrimage, silence, meditation, and belonging.

Each chapter contains reflection questions for individuals to use in conversation with their spiritual director, as prompts for journaling, or for sharing with small groups.

  • Sin

    $19.99

For Christians today, discussing the doctrine of sin is a task fraught with pitfalls and challenges. Maintaining a balance between God’s love and holiness is only part of the job. Christians must also grapple with a postmodern relativism that often transforms sin into merely an illness or a mistake.

Al Truesdale masterfully undergirds the discussion of sin with the assurance of God’s self-giving love in Christ. At a time when God has been jettisoned from the consciousness of many, Truesdale asserts that sin must be discussed with reference to God. Not only is sin an offense against God and neighbor, but it is also overcome only by God’s redemptive grace working through forgiveness and reconciliation. After articulating the nature of sin, Truesdale guides the reader to an understanding of Christ’s victory and the life of holiness.

The Wesleyan Theology Series aims to discuss Christian doctrines in easy to understand language that states clearly what Christians believe and why. Each volume is written by an author with a particular expertise who also has the ability to simplify and clarify complex issues. • Caves Coprolites And Catastrophes

    $48.99

In 1824, William Buckland stood in front of the Royal Geological Society and told them about the bones he had been studying – the bones of an enormous, lizard-like creature, that he called Megalosaurus.

This was the first full account of a dinosaur.

During his life, Buckland would also demonstrate changes in the earth’s climate, champion health reform, wage war on slum landlords, and become infamous for eating everything he could, even a mummified human heart. Yet his name has been largely, and unjustly, forgotten.

In this brilliantly entertaining, colourful biography – the first to be written for over a century – Allan Chapman brings William Buckland back into the light and explores his fascinating life in full. From his pioneering of geology and agricultural science to becoming Dean of Westminster, Caves, Coprolites and Catastrophes reveals a giant of intellect whose achievements helped revolutionise the British scientific community.

Carefully balancing Buckland’s more eccentric escapades with his scientific prowess and the clash between science and religion in the 19th Century, Caves, Coprolites and Catastrophes is vivid, informative and thoroughly compelling.

A captivating story packed full of compelling insights into the world of Victorian science and its relationship with the Christian faith, Caves, Coprolites and Catastrophes is an unmissable biography of an exceptional scientist whose legacy extends down to this day.

Drawing Simply to Share Jesus Well

Have you ever tried to share your faith but struggled, not really knowing what to say? This book helps solve that problem. Practical and funny, Pam Arlund offers a refreshing change from standard methods in disciplemaking.

In Stick Figures Save the World, you will learn to draw Bible stories in a simple way to equip even the newest follower of Jesus to pass on what they have learned to another. This method works when drawn in the dirt of a remote village or on a napkin in a coffeehouse. Whether you are trying to reach your own children, the neighbors, or a person across the world, this book can show you how.

The surprising two-fold outcome of this method is how exciting Scripture will become and how well prepared you will be to share Jesus with others. Stick figures aren’t just for kids, they are for everyone who wants to make the most of the opportunities the Lord gives to authentically share His love with the world.

  • Resisting Tyranny : Covid, The Church, And Christian Duty

    $15.99

    Sincere believers are asking:

*As we watch the dying of the West and demise of the free world, how should Christians respond?

*Should the Church have any prophetic voice in society against tyranny and for freedom?

*How should Christians respond to coercion and mandates (masks, vaccines) in the workplace, at school, and elsewhere?

*Should believers defend human rights and civil liberties as coworkers, neighbours and citizens? If so, when and how do we resist tyranny without confusing the mission of the Church or harming our Christian witness?

*How do we know when political agendas have wrongly polarised us or not?

*What is the place of godly patriotism in the Great Commission, without confusing the cross and the flag?

*Is ‘For God and country’ a biblical motivation?

*What does being ‘gospel-centred’ mean when applying the gospel and Christ’s lordship to moral and ethical issues of our day?

*How do we think biblically about a theology of the face, and about free speech and dissent?

*What happens when the ‘tyranny of the weaker brother’ or the ‘greater good’ rules a church, a society?

*In seeking biblical answers to the above questions, what can we also learn from church history and modern examples?

Read on for answers to these questions and more!

“There are only two possible forms of government: Either people rule themselves and the government exists to protect that freedom; or government dominates people and they have no freedom. Right now we’re moving from the former to the latter. People are giving up their freedom in order for government to take care of them. To pull that off, you have to be lied to, truth must be obscured, chaos must reign. Then in the ignorance and confusion of it all, fear drives people to run to government for security. Cantrell unmasks that in this important book and offers a biblical response, showing the role of the Church as ‘the pillar of truth’ in a world of lies (1 Tim. 3:15). I’ve used this material extensively and can recommend it to you wholeheartedly.”

  • Eucharistic Prayers

    $35.99

Elegant volume of liturgical prayers that tie sacrament and Word together theologically

This unique, elegant resource for ministers and worship planners provides a beautifully crafted Eucharistic prayer for every Sunday of the three-year Revised Common Lectionary cycle, also including prayers for special holy days and other occasions.

In a helpful introduction Samuel Wells and Abigail Kocher offer guidance on how to make the Eucharistic prayer a congregational highlight. Too often, they say, what should be the most dynamic moment of a congregation’s liturgical life becomes a low-energy, low-engagement event. Closely tying the sacramental rite to the words of Scripture for the day, these theologically appropriate, pastorally fitting, and linguistically satisfying prayers change the Great Thanksgiving prayer from a lull in the liturgy to a focused, fresh, and engaged moment for the congregation.

  • How To Hear God

    $18.99

Nothing could possibly matter more than learning to discern the authentic voice of God, but few things in life are more susceptible to delusion, deception, and downright abuse. When life falls apart and we need God’s comfort; in moments of cultural turmoil when we need his clarity; facing formidable decisions when we need his guidance; desiring a deeper faith when we need God to say something, anything, to turn the monologue we call prayer into a genuine conversation.

Having addressed God’s silence in God on Mute, and then How to Pray in his previous bestseller, Pete Greig is back to bring wisdom and guidance to one of the most pressing and perplexing aspects of universal Christian experience–How to Hear God. Exploring the story of Christ’s playful, poignant conversation on the road to Emmaus, Pete draws deeply from the insights of a wide range of Christian traditions. He weaves together the evangelical emphasis upon hearing God in the Bible, and the charismatic commitment to hearing God in the prophetic, with the contemplative understanding of God’s “still, small voice” within.

  • Churches And The Crisis Of Decline

    $29.99

Congregations often seek to combat the crisis of decline by using innovation to produce new resources. But leading practical theologian Andrew Root shows that the church’s crisis is not in the loss of resources, it’s in the loss of life–and that life can only return when we remain open to God’s encountering presence.

This new book, related to Root’s critically acclaimed Ministry in a Secular Age project, addresses the practical form the church must take in a secular age. Root uses two stories to frame the book: one about a church whose building becomes a pub and the other about Karl Barth. Root argues that Barth should be understood as a pastor with a deep practical theology that can help church leaders today.

This book pushes the church to be a waiting community that recognizes that the only way for it to find life is to stop seeing the church as the star of its own story. Instead of resisting decline, congregations must remain open to divine action. Root offers a rich vision for the church’s future that moves away from an obsession with relevance and resources and toward the living God.

  • Pauline Epistles

    $19.99

Many readers may agree with Peter in his second epistle, that Paul’s letters are “hard to understand” and easily distort (3:15-16, NIV). But as David Ackerman in this latest Reading and Interpreting the Bible volume expertly shows, a proper approach to interpretation will yield rich rewards. Ackerman introduces readers to the social world of Paul, his life, and his mission. The reader learns about competing religions, the structure of ancient letters, rhetorical devices, and the pastoral purposes of Paul’s writing. With clear explanations and illustrations using challenging texts, the reader is equipped with the tools needed to separate the timeless from the time-bound and to bridge the gap between Paul’s world and ours.

Reading the Bible with understanding is challenging. Without sound guidance, making sense of the different literary types, settings, and cultures found in the Scriptures can be overwhelming. The Reading and Interpreting the Bible Series opens the door to a proper and accessible method of biblical interpretation. Each volume concentrates on a specific literary type found in the Bible, highlighting its features and function. Social, political, and religious settings are examined, and a critical analysis of the biblical text brings to light its message and relevance for today. Readers will find in these volumes numerous illustrations of how to interpret specific texts, which can be used as a pattern for individual or group Bible studies.
